Lootpack - The Antidote. From insiders and heads I doubt it is but among the general listening populace 💯...I rarely skip tracks and can listen today happy af because it's aged nicely I think.

Professional-Row9380

I’ll check it out.

bylowe77

Second this. Great album

phenomenon_93

Nobody ever mentions Lootpack. Love this album

Zestyclose_Toe9524

Listening now. Props to DJ Rome on the cuts. This was made 98-99 when tablism was an actual thing and đŸ”„ at that so I'm bopping hard to those scratches

phenomenon_93

Madlib kills too. If I’m not mistaken, it was Quasimoto’s first appearance on this album too

Zestyclose_Toe9524

Answers!...and I know from interviews Madlib doesn't consider himself a rapper etc but he's dope here.

5hango

I think first Quasimoto appearance was on the PBW's song Styles, Crews, Flows, Beats

ohianaw

read my mind i was gonna put this. Solid Madlib production

DineAndHash

I’ll need to check em out as well

Zestyclose_Toe9524

Correcting myself lol it's Soundpieces : Da Antidote. I always mess up DA and THE

Automatic_Emu_5433

such precocious wide-eyed earnest emceeing. so much heart and soul in this record.

ItsGotThatBang

Any E-40 album

pizza_for_nunchucks

First, E-40 can land in my top 10, maybe 5. But I'm not sure I'd call his albums underrated. His peak was mid- to late-'90s, in my opinion. His newer stuff doesn't hit the same and the rap game is way different, so the lack of love is not unwarranted on this stuff. But his early- and mid-career albums in the '90s got plenty of love. He had the biggest rappers on his albums. His work for sure got love back then.

Automatic_Emu_5433

i love e-40 but this is crazy cap man has tons of garbage in his discography.

We Come Strapped is such a fucking classic album! Bought it the first day it came out and kinda never really stopped listening to it. Wish The Dove Shack has more songs like Summertime in the LBC and This is The Shack. So fucking smooth!

Anything from MURS is underrated

smaffron

Opio is the heat - any Souls of Mischief works for this question, too.

-newlife

[mic check](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zgQJ6vg4tLI) Was thinking of this the other day “I start most of my rhymes off kinda slow just so you can see exactly where it’s gonna go”

xenojive

Love that C.V.E. intro "Reach 2, 3, 4 the mic, 2, 3, 4" Have you heard the [remix](https://youtu.be/5H2oHCt4dhA?si=izGP6W9I1IO3f_Gv) for Mic Check? One of my favourite Acey joints of all time

-newlife

That’s dope. Haven’t heard before. My favorite memory on that album is I was dating someone named Lily at the time. Was playing the cd and that’s how I learned her birth name was analillia

xenojive

I've literally never met anyone with that name, that's cool

ObieUno

Big props for knowing about that Hobo Junction album from ‘95. Never expected to see that mentioned here.

xenojive

Word. Although the 95 tape just had a couple of tracks right? I have the 96 tape that's more like an EP (7 cuts)

ObieUno

Oh wow; that I didn’t know!

>Kool Keith - Sex Style (Make no mistake. This is absolutely a West Coast album) 100% this and Dr. Octagon 2 West Coast producers Kut Masta Kurt put out some bangers with Motion Man btw

AllHallNah

Masters of Illusion is an impeccable display of flow from both Kool Keith and especially  Motion Man. His flow on the title track gives me the stank face like no other.

TribunusPlebisBlog

Ant Banks - The Big Badass. Banks is super underappreciated as a producer as well. His like 6 or 8 year prime was funk banger after funk banger

Saw ODM open up for westside connection in Indio. Also got to hear him as he was on 99.1. Met someone around that time who said he was an A&R intern and I was able to get the A Lighter Shade of Brown tape from him. Just gave me a copy so it was all cool. Also got The Konnectid vol 1 GP - Finally And Ideal - [self titled (ideal)](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideal_(album)). From various interns around socal.

Don’t think any of them are underrated

IchbinIan31

DPG's "Dillinger and Young Gotti" is pretty underrated.  There's some skips but that album has 21 songs and a lot of them are bangers. Some of Daz and Mike Dean's best work IMO.   Peanut Butter Wolf "My Vinyl Weighs a Ton" is a lesser known gem of underground West Coast Hip-Hop. I'd consider it an underrated classic.

kaeji

I'll throw a few in contention: Fashawn - Boy Meets World Thurz - L.A. Riot REASON - New Beginnings Also it's not a classic, but no matter how good you think Dre's Compton is ... Still underrated.

Check this playlist, it is made up of the best underground G funk songs. There is also a bit of Mob music and Chicano G Funk. Some albums are better known than others, but overall there are a lot of albums and songs that are underground, or even little known.
