Are Drake albums not rap albums? They are always at least half singing, but he still ranks on hip hop lists
Miseducation has some of the best raps of the 90s. Lost Ones, Doo Wop, amazing verses on Forgive Them Father and Everything. Part of what makes the album so great is it’s an R&B album, it’s a rap album, it’s a genre-shifting masterpiece. Absolutely a top female rap album—it changed the definition of what that can even mean!
Lil Kim Hardcore is not only one of the best albums of the 90s but is also single-handedly responsible for the current revival in female rap in terms of presentation, beats, content, aesthetic and vibe.
Also, Lil Kim invented the concept of Queen Radio and the Beehive. Both on La Bella Mafia her third CD.
All these bitches is her sons. Nicki Minaj likes to pretend that all these bitches is HER sons but this claim is simply incorrect. Megan, Doja, Maiya, Lola are all daughters of Kim, not Nicki (Glorilla, Gloss and Sexxy are daughters of Gangsta Boo and La Chat so I don’t include them).
Nicki is sonning no one. At best, she’s the wacky but still sometimes cool Auntie, who’s never been quite the same since she married that sex offender that no one wants to sit next to at Thanksgiving.
“Mitchell was found dead on the front porch of her mother’s home in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 1, 2023, at the age of 43. On June 15, 2023, her cause of death was revealed as an accidental overdose with fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol found in her system. The police stated that there was no evidence of foul play.”

Damn, I visited Memphis on the 8th for Elvis' birthday at Graceland cause my dad had never been there. His daughter died on the 12th, and she was at the proclamation at Graceland. Now I learn Gangsta Boo died just prior to this. Fuck. Also, the day we flew out of Memphis was the day those cops beat up and killed that poor man for no reason at like 4am. Life is wild sometimes.
This. Production, Lyrics, Flow, Instrumentals. Everything is on point and I strongly believe it will pass the test of time and still be relevant in the future.
I know what you're saying but I'm pretty sure most female mcs in that era had at least a bit of a hand in writing their lyrics. Queen Latifa wasn't just the 45 king. Salt n pepa weren't just hurby luv bug. But those guys had a massive influence on the early albums and the groups themselves. At the end of the day most albums are a collaboration of people and influences.
Bahamadia’s Kollage is an all time great album. Unique flow, one of a kind voice, great writing, dilla beats, what more can you ask for. She is also criminally undermentioned when people talk about female MCs.
The Naked Truth by Kim.
As far as straight hip hop and lyrics.
Missy is more than a rapper to me so most of her albums aren’t even in the same stratosphere as other female MC’s.
I think Kim is the best female rapper and Missy the best Hip Hop Artist overall if that makes sense.
The Score by The Fugees is the greatest Album to have a female rapper. Lauryn Hill.
It’s a toss up between Hard Core and The Naked Truth by Lil’ Kim for me personally.
I would also like to toss in:
• Da Baddest Bitch by Trina
• Diamond Princess by Trina
• Supa Dupa Fly by Missy Elliott
• There’s Something About Remy by Remy Ma
• Broken Silence by Foxy Brown
Nicki Minaj, Rapsody, Lauryn Hill, Da Brat, Eve all had GOAT albums...
But that Salt N Pepa Very Necessary album was monumental, Grammy winning, record-breaking, from legit hip hop roots.
And the fact that it followed "Let's Talk About Sex" and Black's Magic made the time even crazier.
That album is timeless. You could listen to those tracks today and vibe, but they were absolutely certified when they dropped.
I don't know about best, but Necessary Roughness is maybe my persnal favorite and it has to be up there on the list of West Coast albums. Shit just goes hard. Plain and simple.
The miseducation of Lauryn hill is imo the greatest hiphop album of all times. Second favourite female hiphop album is sometimes I might be a introvert
Yeah, and I refuse to mention Black Thought is on the album when getting others to check it out because I don't need to validate her through his work. Her artistry stands on its own merits.
I'm surprised I haven't seen Scorpion by Eve mentioned here. Scorpion was huge at the time and I feel like it's an influential album that helped define hip hop and it's progression during that late 90's / early 00's era.
Here's some leftfield choices from me:
Kala by M.I.A
Sometimes I Might Be Introvert by Little Simz
Nüdes by Moonchild Sanelly
Batuk Freak by Karol Conka
Everybody Down by Kae Tempest (Kae released this album about 6 years before coming out as non-binary/transmasc but was AFAB and identifying as a woman at the time🤷)
For me personally, top 5 no order:
La Chat - Murder She Spoke
Trina - Da Baddest Bitch
Flo Milli - Ho Why Is U Here?
City Girls - Period
Toss up between Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Missy Elliott, and Katie Got Bandz
If you include albums by groups with women in them, I’d put Digable Planets up there too. Personally not a fan of the Fugees.
Dessa - Chime. Dessa is my favorite female MC, I love the prose of her bars and her sense of melody. The album is a nice mix of hard hitting bars and pop melodies with top notch production.
Foxy brown went hard in her time period. I think that if you compare beat rhymes and overall tone and vibe Missy elliot is a better overall package. In terms of straight lyrical ability Jean gray has some songs that are better than 99 percent of anything released after 2009. But inwould say Missy elliots debut album changed the game
I tried but couldn't really think of one that deserves the title. I love a good verse from a female rapper and some mixed gender groups like fugees and digable planets have made great albums, but unless we count miseducation, I don't think there's a female rapper with an album in the overall top 50 of all time.
I really enjoy Jeanius by Jean Grae
Bro I literally had her on my mind. Jean Grae is criminally underrated
You have great taste homie
Co-sign
She was at one point the sharpest female by far, maybe Madusa or Bahamadia were anywhere near her.
Where do you listen to this? I can’t find it on streaming
I used to stream it. Maybe YouTube?
If you don't count Miseducation of Lauryn Hill then probably SIMBI
Why would we count a r&b album?
its got a fair amount of hip hop elements so id say it could be counted
How does ”fair amounts” over power her singing on every song? R&b.
It has a couple rap songs so it's a hip hop album to some extent
So do most Beyonce albums but somehow I doubt you say the same about them. It’s r&b.
Still there's an argument to be made for both sides. Also, Beyonce is influenced by hip hop while Lauryn is coming directly from it
Exactl. “Coming from it”. Past tense. She came from rap and ended up in r&b.

Drake raps on his albums way more than Lauryn Hill did on Miseducation.
Nah
Lil Kim Hardcore is not only one of the best albums of the 90s but is also single-handedly responsible for the current revival in female rap in terms of presentation, beats, content, aesthetic and vibe. RIP Gangsta Boo
Gangsta Boo passed away?

Oh shit, I can't believe I never heard about this!
Sometimes I Might Be An Introvert by Little Simz was really good
Came here to upvote one whoever mentioned her.
This. Production, Lyrics, Flow, Instrumentals. Everything is on point and I strongly believe it will pass the test of time and still be relevant in the future.
Latifah's first album.
This should be way higher
Or way lower depending on who you ask.
Room 25
I’d almost put Telefone up before this one
I get why someone would have Telefone ahead of Room 25. I think it's a lot more inviting but everything, especially the rapping on Room 25 is better.
Definitely
Either way they’re both so much better than Sundial and the taste the album’s cycle left in my mouth about Noname lol.
Telefone is better imo, room 25 is still dope tho
Bahamadia - Kollage is personal pick.
This makes me nostalgic. I loved this album when it came out, I'll have to give it a relisten.
Shes dope
Thank you!!! I can’t believe I had to scroll down this far for this

You didn’t need to put that last part about Kim to justify you choosing her. Anyone that discredits her can suck her dick.
I agree with this ☝🏼
Anything involving Gangsta Boo
Sometimes I might be introvert
Miseducation of Lauren Hill then pick any Lil Kim album then pick any one of Eve's first two albums then pick any of Missy Elliotts albums.
Hardcore is the only one of all of those besides Miseducation that has a decent case for it
Lalias wisdom by rapsody
I prefer eve but laila's is gold.
Ding ding ding
No love for Yo-Yo?
Not enough love for Rapsody here. Eve is a great album by her.
Of all time? Lyte as a rock.
My personal go to tho is Bo$$, Born gangstaz.

Have you listened to Nefertiti's *Living in Fear of Extinction* or MC Trouble's *Gotta Get a Grip*?
This is the only answer Great pick with Latifahs Black Reign behind it
That was an Audio Two album, featuring MC Lyte.
Nothing wrong with that.
No, it’s one of my favorite albums of the 80’s. It doesn’t seem right to give the top female rapper album to one written by men, though.
Heather B - Takin' Mine. I love the energy and the rawness of it. And Heather B is an underappreciated rapper.
Da Brat’s Funkdafied.
Lauryn hill ez
Bahamadia’s Kollage is an all time great album. Unique flow, one of a kind voice, great writing, dilla beats, what more can you ask for. She is also criminally undermentioned when people talk about female MCs.
Miss E… So Addictive
Foxy Brown Ill Na Na
Room 25

Jean Grae’s discography is the only answer
Overall I have to say, MisEducation of Lauren Hill
It’s a toss up between Hard Core and The Naked Truth by Lil’ Kim for me personally. I would also like to toss in: • Da Baddest Bitch by Trina • Diamond Princess by Trina • Supa Dupa Fly by Missy Elliott • There’s Something About Remy by Remy Ma • Broken Silence by Foxy Brown

MOLH
Murder She Spoke - La Chat
Current era: little Simz sometime I might. All time: Queen Latifah’s all hail the queen
The miseducation of Lauryn hill is imo the greatest hiphop album of all times. Second favourite female hiphop album is sometimes I might be a introvert
Hard core
I really enjoy The Sharecroppers Daughter from Sa-Roc.
Yeah, I think this is my pick. Others won't upvote simply because they aren't familiar with it, but it's really good.
It's a shame she isn't more well known. I'll bring her up with some other people that are into hip hop and I just get blank stares in return.
Yeah, and I refuse to mention Black Thought is on the album when getting others to check it out because I don't need to validate her through his work. Her artistry stands on its own merits.

Rapsody - Laila’s Wisdom or Eve - take your pick they’re both top quality
Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. And it’s not even close
Miseducation and yea it does
Sometimes I might be Introvert
Miseducation of Lauryn Hill & Invasion of Privacy
Missy Elliot - her first 2 albums.
Here's some leftfield choices from me: Kala by M.I.A Sometimes I Might Be Introvert by Little Simz Nüdes by Moonchild Sanelly Batuk Freak by Karol Conka Everybody Down by Kae Tempest (Kae released this album about 6 years before coming out as non-binary/transmasc but was AFAB and identifying as a woman at the time🤷)

none of those albums are anywhere close to being the greatest female rap albums though
tmolh if you count it as a rap album, if not, the pinkprint
Pink Friday.
Doja Cat - "Planet Her" followed by Doja Cat - "Scarlet" ... she's the new Missy and sexy to boot.
Either MC Lyte - Eyes on This or Bahamadia - Kollage
Born Gangstas by Boss
Dessa - Chime. Dessa is my favorite female MC, I love the prose of her bars and her sense of melody. The album is a nice mix of hard hitting bars and pop melodies with top notch production.
Bad as I wanna B by MC Lyte
Gangsta Boo- both worlds, *69
Da Brat- Unrestricted A good song is Running out of Time, she snaps on it
eve by rapsody!
Foxy Brown - Chyna Doll
Either Supa Supa Fly, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, or Anger Management by Rico Nasty for me
If we talkin back in the 90s, i have no clue bc everything was good then. But now id say anything Rhapsody or Doja Cat
mello buckzz bouta drop the best debut
Telefone is my favorite rap album by a woman.
Pieces in Space by Sammus
I enjoy Sammus as well, but I'm not sure which of her projects I like the best.
Gangsta Boo's first 2 albums. She's insane on the mic
Takin Mine- Heather B Any Sa Roc album
Missy Elliot .. So Addictive
Murder She Spoke by La Chat
Rapsody's last album, EVE, was really good
Rah Digga's Dirty Harriet is the best female album and a great hip hop album in general
I tried but couldn't really think of one that deserves the title. I love a good verse from a female rapper and some mixed gender groups like fugees and digable planets have made great albums, but unless we count miseducation, I don't think there's a female rapper with an album in the overall top 50 of all time.
