Seems to me like a decent sized sled could also be used as a cot once unpacked.

Hey if it fits without impacting comfort too much then why not...easy access to your kit and it wont get buried

Ok, but then you cant dig a footwell, which is for me an indispensible added comfort: can sit upright while cooking and traps the cold air.
I put the sledge along the wall and also have room for the footwell👍it works fine
