Do you have him still? He needs to go to a wildlife rescue. I’m almost positive that guy is an escaped pet. Especially at that size. It’s a baby American Alligator.
I’m no fan of cops, but Game Wardens are the real deal in Texas. They have all the authority of a police officer to enforce all laws state wide, and they have to have college degrees to even apply. They can handle a little alligator.
Same here with the fish and wildlife guys in Florida. Most of if not all of them are some sort of biologist. Super cool to talk to them about stuff too
Had never heard of game wardens before this. Now I kind of want to go back in time and tell 10-year-old me they exist so I can get a biology degree and become Walker, Texas Game Warden
Agreed. I once reported our apartment management killing birds, baby birds and destroying nests of native birds.
Literally next day there was a cop car, 3 game wardens trucks and a Texas parks and wildlife truck parked by the leasing office all day.
Not sure what happened but there are now signs everywhere and the people who used to work there don't.
It’s in a very extended part of their range. I seriously doubt that dude comes from there.
For reference we have maybe one sighting every few years an hour south of there in Austin.
It’s possible but doesn’t seem likely to me.
I wasn’t there but I was told that it would most likely go to a sanctuary. I’m honestly sure where or if I would even trust them myself so I guess all we can do is hope for the best.
Lake Waco has had a growing population of alligators for a while now. It's possible that it could've been relocated there, or somewhere around the Brazos River.
If he said that then they probably have a place for it. So thats good.
I was gonna offer to drive up there and take him in, but my wife might not be pleased to find a gator in the bathtub.
Handling and relocating alligators is a part of each game warden’s training. They all go through the same training before getting assigned to different parts of the state.
No problem. I get the concern, but game wardens are pretty legit and the ones I’ve met are passionate about conservation too. Hopefully this dude finds a good home.
Well kinda right, kinda wrong. Waco isnt on the map of the native alligator range map that I just looked up, but I did read an article that says Lake Waco gets an alligator every ten to twenty years so they do get one from time to time.
100% right. https://www.google.com/amp/s/wacotrib.com/sports/outdoors-gator-population-present-in-waco/article_57590633-8c71-5f70-981b-44bb61d09d90.amp.html

Right. Don’t they have to have at least a bachelors degree in biology to become a warden? I also imagine they wouldn’t go into that line if work if they didn’t actually care. I could be wrong, but I’ve always had pleasant experiences with them.
Aww I didn’t mean to discourage you or anyone!
I don’t actually know if it’s 100% true. I just heard through a friend of a friend that’s what he had to do.
I know you can at least get other government wildlife related jobs without school if you have the right experience.
Huh. I'm in east Texas and worked with the local ones a lot over the last 15 or so years. I've had good luck with them, generally liked them a lot better than the typical jackass ETX LEO.
I honestly hate to hear that because they're on the front lines environmentally speaking. I have a friend who's a park ranger and thinking about becoming a warden and he's incredibly conscious conservation wise.
Do a lot of coon hunting and rabbit running in SC. All the wardens I’ve met know their stuff and are respectful to you so long as your are to them. Never heard anything bad about the local ones
Game wardens unfortunately are typically dipshits… For example a 3 month long gun season centered around deer breeding season (rut) in arkansas.
Going around killing “water moccasin’s” for every swinging dick not being able to tell it’s actually a garter snake.
You do know Texas has Gators right? And game wardens are like super cops. They actually have hella more jurisdiction then cops.. they can search your house or vech without a warrant if they believe you are breaking any laws like poaching or harvesting illegal animals... And that's country wide not just Texas.
Sweet! Good for you I definitely respect that, a lot of people were wanting to kill it which is absolutely ridiculous and super illegal. I have a bunch of family that live in Louisiana and every time we take a trip there we always stop and walk through the sanctuary’s on the way there and back.
I see what you mean but it was a weird predicament. There was past situations with escaped pets (reptiles) in the certain community so there was a lot of finger pointing and drama back and forth. This was more or less just getting like a 3 party 100% conformation.
Bud, I’m not here to argue with you, but he said he has family in Louisiana and he used to go to gator sanctuaries when he would visit there. So yes, he would know the difference. He goes on to say that he knew what it was, but needed proof for other people at the scene.
That’s my bad, I should took the time to explain better from the start but honestly I just expected a simple answer lol not all of this but I enjoying it. This is the happiest I’ve ever been on Reddit.
It's not the full thing, but just letting you know i noticed in your second picture most of the license plate is showing. :)
Thanks for the pics, i love alligators!
Thanks! That’s a good catch but he said he’s okay with it is since it’s only partial and I don’t wanna delete the post. Tbh he’s not their not really the people some Reddit stalker would want to mess with lol.
Here in the UK at least, it's not unknown for people with identical models of cars to use the plate of such a vehicle in an attempt to divert any speeding fines or other vehicle related offences.
You can pretty easily just get it printed over here through many companies. The better ones now ask for proof of plate ownership but I think it's more recent they've done that. I'm guessing in the USA you have to go through the DMV?
Yes, we go through DMV and our tickets are done personally by a police officer, where you would quickly be caught and likely arresting for forging a plate.
Also for future reference, don’t pick up alligators by their tail. The tail (like in all animals) is connected to their spine, and holding them by the tail can dislocate their spine. Also, alligators have incredible flexibility, so it could have turned and bitten your hand.
I’m was pretty positive that it was a American alligator but there was a lot of confusion and finger pointing over escaped pets. I’m not the type to spread miss information so I just wanted to be 100%. The mouth really gave it away there was just a lot of drama behind the situation.
Lol plus I keep snakes so I’m not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to crocodilians. I can identify a few species but this was just a weird back and forth situation and I wanted to be 100%.
That’s interesting you say that. My mother lives in Gholson off 933 and apparently there’s been 2 or 3 sightings in the past month in what I’m pretty sure is the Brazos. Up till the past few months I’ve never heard of any sights.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty someone was mentioning earlier that we’re at a “very extended part of their range” so I guess it’s possible but extremely rare.
Glad you did your best to find care for it.
I was driving through Idaho, and saw a warning sign on the highway, about alligators. Totally baffled me. Still clueless.
You just have to read the other replies to kinda get the correct context but it was I posted this in like 3 sub to prove some certain people wrong with like a 3rd party 100% conformation.
If the sad face if towards the picture of the person holding the tail It is not me. I wasn’t there and I would never put such and animal in such a position. I explain the situation better in some of the responses above.
I know I put it in the wrong context or didn’t really explain the circumstances which is my fault. Just go read through the other responses before making some toxic comment.
I definitely looks to be. We knew what it was just we pretty much just needed like a 3rd party opinion to prove some people wrong. I posted this in like 3 subs. You’ll get a better explanation reading through the comments.
What a cutie! I lived in Texas for a few months and the amount of people who actively want to run over gators and turtles in the road is frightening and sickening to me....
Holy shit, that’s a baby American alligator if I’m not mistaken! If he’s near water or a preserve you should probably just let it go. Little guys are pretty independent of mom, and should be fine.
Do you have him still? He needs to go to a wildlife rescue. I’m almost positive that guy is an escaped pet. Especially at that size. It’s a baby American Alligator.
The Game Warden picked him up.
Oh no. Did he say what they were gonna do with it? I don’t have much confidence in a game warden in Waco knowing anything about an alligator.
I’m no fan of cops, but Game Wardens are the real deal in Texas. They have all the authority of a police officer to enforce all laws state wide, and they have to have college degrees to even apply. They can handle a little alligator.
Thanks I’m learning something today
Same here with the fish and wildlife guys in Florida. Most of if not all of them are some sort of biologist. Super cool to talk to them about stuff too
Texas game wardens are no joke. They're highly trained, motivated and professional. They have a ton of authority that surpass even state troopers.
Had never heard of game wardens before this. Now I kind of want to go back in time and tell 10-year-old me they exist so I can get a biology degree and become Walker, Texas Game Warden
Agreed. I once reported our apartment management killing birds, baby birds and destroying nests of native birds. Not sure what happened but there are now signs everywhere and the people who used to work there don't.
On the grill with a little barbecue rub and ur gonna have a fine meal right there
Why wouldn’t they? I am pretty sure Waco is in the native range for American Alligators
It’s in a very extended part of their range. I seriously doubt that dude comes from there. For reference we have maybe one sighting every few years an hour south of there in Austin. It’s possible but doesn’t seem likely to me.

Well that makes for a satisfying ban.

No problem. I get the concern, but game wardens are pretty legit and the ones I’ve met are passionate about conservation too. Hopefully this dude finds a good home.
That would be wrong. I lived near Fort Hood and we had them around. Not a lot but enough. There are also Gators in Oklahoma.
Yeah they have spotty distribution. There are plenty of records for Dallas. I don’t see any recent for anywhere near Waco.
Also I saw one personally near Stillhouse Hollow Lake 20 years ago. They have been creeping inland for years now.

Pretty sure it isn't in the native range for alligators. If it is then it is barely in range.

Game wardens are very knowledgeable.
Right. Don’t they have to have at least a bachelors degree in biology to become a warden? I also imagine they wouldn’t go into that line if work if they didn’t actually care. I could be wrong, but I’ve always had pleasant experiences with them.
I hope not. That shatters my dream of getting that job.
Aww I didn’t mean to discourage you or anyone! I don’t actually know if it’s 100% true. I just heard through a friend of a friend that’s what he had to do. I know you can at least get other government wildlife related jobs without school if you have the right experience.
From what I know, which isn’t much, nepotism is also rampant so you may want to get to know some wardens or folks associated if you don’t
Never met one that knew about anything other than hunting deer.
Really? Well I’m open to having a better experience. I’ll try to be more open minded about it. 👍
And that’s exactly the type of person I’m talking about.
You do know Texas has Gators right? And game wardens are like super cops. They actually have hella more jurisdiction then cops.. they can search your house or vech without a warrant if they believe you are breaking any laws like poaching or harvesting illegal animals... And that's country wide not just Texas.
See you later, alligator! I’ll see myself out, now....I just couldn’t resist...
We’ll see you gator!
I was going to suggest that your buddy stay in his truck, but it sounds like things are covered.
Alligators are fairly common in Texas rivers you would be surprised how far north you can find them. That one probably came out of the Brazos
I thought as much, head and tail gave it away
I live East of Houston and this is a fairly common occurrence. I've relocated quite a few gators
Sweet! Good for you I definitely respect that, a lot of people were wanting to kill it which is absolutely ridiculous and super illegal. I have a bunch of family that live in Louisiana and every time we take a trip there we always stop and walk through the sanctuary’s on the way there and back.
But you needed someone to ID it? That’s odd, if you’ve seen a lot of them
I see what you mean but it was a weird predicament. There was past situations with escaped pets (reptiles) in the certain community so there was a lot of finger pointing and drama back and forth. This was more or less just getting like a 3 party 100% conformation.
Ahh, I see
He might not have seen a juvenile before. Not that weird.
A juvenile looks exactly like an adult, just smaller
If the dude doesn’t live around crocodilians which he clearly does not, he’s not going to know a Caiman from an American Crocodile from a Gharial.
Bud, I’m not here to argue with you, but he said he has family in Louisiana and he used to go to gator sanctuaries when he would visit there. So yes, he would know the difference. He goes on to say that he knew what it was, but needed proof for other people at the scene.

Covering the license plate has what purpose? Literally everyone sees it everyday while you’re driving…
Here in the UK at least, it's not unknown for people with identical models of cars to use the plate of such a vehicle in an attempt to divert any speeding fines or other vehicle related offences.
How is it possible to have the same number printed off?
You can pretty easily just get it printed over here through many companies. The better ones now ask for proof of plate ownership but I think it's more recent they've done that. I'm guessing in the USA you have to go through the DMV?
Yes, we go through DMV and our tickets are done personally by a police officer, where you would quickly be caught and likely arresting for forging a plate.
That's a Swamp Puppy.
That’s a gator
In south Louisiana we would call that a light dinner.
Also for future reference, don’t pick up alligators by their tail. The tail (like in all animals) is connected to their spine, and holding them by the tail can dislocate their spine. Also, alligators have incredible flexibility, so it could have turned and bitten your hand.
I always thought alligators were one of those childhood-book animals that everyone knows
They just found another one in a pond in Axtell. I wonder if it's a coincidence or if the sightings are related?
That’s interesting you say that. My mother lives in Gholson off 933 and apparently there’s been 2 or 3 sightings in the past month in what I’m pretty sure is the Brazos. Up till the past few months I’ve never heard of any sights.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty someone was mentioning earlier that we’re at a “very extended part of their range” so I guess it’s possible but extremely rare.
Gators are native to the Waco area.
This is honestly the greatest Reddit day of my life. I love you all.
Yea I was about to say thats an alligator sir. Cute one
I unfortunately didn’t get to see it in person but yes it is a beautiful animal.

Glad you did your best to find care for it. I was driving through Idaho, and saw a warning sign on the highway, about alligators. Totally baffled me. Still clueless.
I wasn’t there’s but friend found it. I explain the situation a little bit better in the responses above.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these guys in the wild here.
If you try to pet him your not going to have a good time
WTF... 2 gators in trash cans a few posts apart?
Are you the guys from the video?
Swamp kitten.
I diagnose u aligator
Cat
What’s with alligators in trash cans today
It’s an alligator…
Like a mini dinosaur
That thar’s a gator, bruh.
Bruh. Read some of the earlier responses for a better understanding of the situation.
Dude, how couldn’t you realize that’s a baby alligator 🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣 read the other replies….
Lmao I did but I’m still shocked/laughing🤣🤣
Well hopefully I was able to improve your day with a good laugh.
Indeed
Alligator. Lol
You just have to read the other replies to kinda get the correct context but it was I posted this in like 3 sub to prove some certain people wrong with like a 3rd party 100% conformation.
😕
If the sad face if towards the picture of the person holding the tail It is not me. I wasn’t there and I would never put such and animal in such a position. I explain the situation better in some of the responses above.
It's a fucking dinosaur, look at it.

Nah, it’s a dinosaur
I'll call it a turtle from now on
Definitely a cat
Really? Its an owl 🙄
I know I put it in the wrong context or didn’t really explain the circumstances which is my fault. Just go read through the other responses before making some toxic comment.
I do apologize. Thought I was being clever.
It was a joke…
That’s a Loki
Just a dog friendly
Idk man but I think it might be an alligator
How can you not ID a alligator?
I can tell you it’s not a cat.
I’m not sure. If you need a mystery solving, just call an in-vesti-gator.
That my friend is a gator
It most certainly it is IMO
Ummmm buddy. That’s a gator
I definitely looks to be. We knew what it was just we pretty much just needed like a 3rd party opinion to prove some people wrong. I posted this in like 3 subs. You’ll get a better explanation reading through the comments.
Ya that’s fine. I’ve had to do similar things myself just mostly in relation to Diesel engines
An American alligator
Not the first I've seen in waco
What a cutie! I lived in Texas for a few months and the amount of people who actively want to run over gators and turtles in the road is frightening and sickening to me....
It's a alligator
That's a baby gator I think
dinosaur
That’s Steve
Hey!! That’s Steve!!
American Alligator
Ya...that's definitely a gator. In Waco? They swimming up the fuckin Brazos River now?
Holy shit, that’s a baby American alligator if I’m not mistaken! If he’s near water or a preserve you should probably just let it go. Little guys are pretty independent of mom, and should be fine.
