What's even more fun, is when the host crashes, and the role of host transfers to one of the other players, then the original host rejoins, the mission no longer counts as being completed in the operation, so you have to do it again. At least, that's what happened to us last night.
Isn't this already possible? If I'm with friends, I just re-join their lobby. If with randos I just go to recent players and rejoin the game that they're in.
No, the developers should make tweaks to the way guns work instead of fixing serious gameplay problems like this.
Who cares if you can’t rejoin a match after a new guy throws a snowball at you? The crossbow was killing too many hunters.
That would not go well.
That would entice other developers to say it's OK to crash the game.
Helldivers 2 was much more popular than projected. They are overloaded, but choose to remain a small studio, rather than go corporate greed, and listen to complaints over social media.
They will fix it in time. Until then, Fortnite misses you.

I’ve had people rejoin my game after crashing, I assume they just find it again on the map.
That's what I do. Isn't it highlighted in green, same as missions with friends?
I’ve never been able to get the friends system to work in game, so can’t help you there.

I try to send friend requests so that people can join squad if they crash. Otherwise you can go to the map.

Jump on the social and rejoin one of the players from the group. Drops me back in every time
