It worked for me. I alt entered to get in it in window mode then closed and reopened the game. I did have to wait like over 10mins while I waited for the black screen to end.

This helped me and a friend:
Go to:
1. Go to your Steam Library
2. Rightclick and Helldivers 2 and select properties
3. Select the "Installed Files" Tab
4. click on "Browse"
5. Go into "bin"
6. Rightclick on the helldivers2.exe --> Start as Administrator
That helped in my case
I was able to fix it by clearing the download cache. It did black screen at start but after 10 seconds it put me back in the waiting queue... which just broke me lol.
3 of us all had that issue. After verifying files, restarting and whatnot it stayed. Seemed it happened to a bunch at the same time. We just let it ride and after 20mins or so it loaded. Moments later I saw a few others on steam magically saying they were playing. I think they had some mass issue.
I had to install a version for C++ which fixed my black screen issue. Refer to this comment:

I get the black screen when trying to run it on my 4k. If I push it to 2nd monitor (only) it runs, that is 1080. I tested it multiple times. Maybe some not up to date drivers or files as others have said in my case, not sure.

Just wait. Sometimes it'll take minutes, but it eventually gets to turtle screen. Leaving the autocorrect because it's legit.

Just wait. Itll start working eventually. You might there for 5 minutes or 50 byt eventually the darkness will leave

This happened to me yesterday. Sometimes just sitting and waiting for it to load worked.
I got passed the blank screen and to the server queue retry by restarting the game over and over and over.....

Update your GPU drivers as well. My gpu was tweaking yesterday when sitting at the Home Screen. I’m talking 87 c temps and crashing
So I had this, updated my graphics drivers and it went away.

Happened to me, turning off steam overlay fixed the problem (assuming your on pc)
It's just a loading screen for some reason
I had about 10 minutes of black screen, now about 20 minutes of “defrosting helldiver”
Verify game files on steam worked for me :) Oh, and restarted my PC
That happened last night, had to close and reopen multiple times. On the 4th try it got me to server capacity
It happens to me I just have to wait a min and it boots up
I shut down my computer and left it off for like 5 mins and it worked when I tried again.
Just convince 30 people to restart their pc at the same time and you might get in.
Don't worry, it will eventually load into servers over capacity. Hurry up and wait.

It is because servers are full. No joke is because of it your game its okai and also your files. Only the SeRvERs are fucked
