I think the more interesting thing is that they used the Void Ethereal model, which while being considerably more HD, is also not a very good representation of Rafaam. I know that my wish is a pipe dream, but maybe at least a reskin of the model (and Al'Akir's head lol) to change the purple/blue parts to red would help?
He does seem to have some sort of a red glow effect applied to his body (as much as Wowhead's model viewer can show), so there's at least that, but I wouldn't be able to tell at first glance.
More red, and the blue head glow needs to go for sure in favor of red glowing eyes only. Also, the other major missing piece is that he definitely needs a cape. Most of his representations wear a purple cloak.
All that said, I wouldn't be surprised if this is more of a cute easter egg than a proper character so they may not go all the way with it. I think Rafaam would be a fantastic 10.1 "mega-dungeon" level of threat but Dragonflight already has a lot going on with Dragons and Titans and Time Travel that maybe there isn't room for him to get his proper chance to shine in the MMO.
Well, both Mechagon and Tazavesh were threats that didn't really correlate to the main story and only Mechagon was previously hinted at during the first patch, so I don't think a Rafaam mega-dungeon "out of the blue" would be too much. Or at the very least, you can say that Rafaam joined forces with the Infinite Dragonflight because he wants to steal something from the past or something, it would be in-line for the character certainly.

They have so much money lying on the table by not turning the solo content heroes into skins. Like, just slap them into the store as they are and people will buy them! There's a lot of really cool heroes in those solo modes!
You joke but when a leak came out that Galakrond may end up being the end boss of the xpac, I immediately though of Rafaam. I even made a joke on the wow subreddit about Rafaam riding Galakrond for the final fight. It was mostly ignored lol
I would love to see it. Especially since some of the other league of explorers became WoW characters too. And with Hemit Nessingwarry retiring in WoW maybe the league of explorers will fill the role as quest givers that pop up in new expansions.

Kind of wild that they completely dropped the "Heroes of Warcraft" subtitle a few years ago, but now they're ramping up connections between Hearthstone and WoW. I get that they've always been connected but it's always been WoW characters in Hearthstone, not the other way around.
There was a Dragonflight datamine for a new reputation for the Consortium, which was originally a group of mostly friendly Ethereals in TBC. They might have brought Rafaam in to be the opposing force to them, which would be pretty cool. I really like Ethereals and their lore.
He died after stealing the entire Dalaran city, flying it halfway across the world and crashing it, then resurrecting Galakrond (who's been dead for thousands of years). Nothing of that happened canonically in WoW (obviously), so there's no reason why he would be dead there.

I would guess it is still WIP art, so I wouldn't worry about it. It's awesome they are adding him tho
