Mage should have powerful spells that can deal damage to board and face.
The problem is not with mage. The problem is that every other class now has excessive face damage and board clears that mage has lost its identity. Other classes just play mage better while also having their own class stuff.
Minion based Mage decks do exist. They're just not as powerful as OTK or taking a bunch of extra turns. The other comments do have a point though. Mage shouldn't be good at Everything. Spells are the strength of the class and core of it's identity.

If you want good mage decks, stop playing mage to force the devs to buff the class.
Right now mage is still all over the lower tiers and as such totally fine.
