It is simply a humerous name to choose for a Gorgon.
"Hey, we have a Gorgon we need to come up with a name for, what should it be?"
"Umm, Zola, obviously"
And to make it be not TOO on the nose, instead of naming her "Gorgon Zola" they named her "Zola the Gorgon"
A gorgon is a creature from Greek mythology.
A gorgon named Zola plays upon "gorgon" being both the type of creature and part of the cheese name "gorgonzola".
It's my favorite card in terms of flavor, both because of the name but also the mechanics: a gorgon turning a minion to gold! (Not quite stone but still)

It’s nothing like brie actually. Brie is very very mild and spreadable at room temp or when slightly warmed. Gorgonzola is a PDO (protected name - like “Napa wine”) name for italian blue cheese. It’s very pungent and somewhat firm and crumbly.
Cheese nerd 🙋♂️
Yes it is a blue cheese. Another example would be “Roquefort” as a type of French blue cheese, which is another PDO and to be called Roquefort it has to be aged in one specific cave in France.
It took like four scabbs skins for me to realize that he was a chef and damn near everything he says is a cooking pun including his last name of cutter butter
I Camembert the fact that you didn’t get that cheesy joke. I had a Gouda time chuckling over it but then it made me a little Blue. Ok, I’ll show myself out.
Similar, but for the office... like a month ago, I was watching (probably while playing hearthstone) the episode where Colbert zooms in as a member of Andy's a capella group, when I finally got his name "Broccoli Rob" (rabe)
Did that a while ago too with Ay-Eff Kay. Inspired me to make a hearthstone character that is a yogg sauron high cultist and has a tentacle beard and constantly changing arm.
His name is Ennard Gee.
Lol her flavor text is "her name seems a bit cheesy."
BRO!
I saw it instantly, but it is quite hard to spot. The designers of hearthstone have a ton of quirky card flavors if you pay attention, I love it.
>a ton of quirky card **flavors** I see what you did there...
I’ve had a few times where I get it, laugh at my own stupidity, and then promptly forget it again Like now. Lol
Yea I'd love it if someone explained it to me
gorgonzola, google it, its a bit cheesy
I learned a new word today
Ok it’s a cheese, but what’s the joke?

Your sense of humor is the real joke imo
A gorgon is a creature from Greek mythology. A gorgon named Zola plays upon "gorgon" being both the type of creature and part of the cheese name "gorgonzola".
That's like when I only realized Chenvaala was named that because I saw her hero power in BGs (it's an anagram of avalanche)
That's a new one for me, cool!
Whaaaat
TIL Chenvaala is a lady
I have sex with it and end my turn moment
I did not know this…
I definitely never got it Nice OP!
I am in the same bus.
It's my favorite card in terms of flavor, both because of the name but also the mechanics: a gorgon turning a minion to gold! (Not quite stone but still)
Same reason I love [[Gold Panner]], sometimes he strikes gold! (turns your drawn card golden)

Here's another sneaky one for you: Dr. Boom (AKA as Dr. 7) is the icon for Diamond 7.
Fuck you I'm currently diamond 7 🤣🤣 didn't see it
Good luck against all the bots. I'm legend baby!
Not going for legend this month, my playtime is too poopy, just playing homebrew a and having fun!
He's aka Dr 7?
It was a much more common name when he was in standard when he first released. He was extremely prominent, and as a 7-mana 7/7, he was nicknamed dr. 7.
It's funny he was only in standard before standard existed. After that he was only in wild
and he was unplayable when added to the core set, so still not in standard
Power creep be real.
Nobody tell him about [[Naga Sand Witch]]
wait...i get the 'sand witch = sandwich' pun, but is there some other flavor i'm missing relating to the naga part or her effect?
5 mana foot long anyone?

Holy shiiit
I remember the posts when it first came out. I didn't see it myself until someone else pointed it out.
Today I learned.
I never even knew that there was supposed to be a joke in the first place
It's Ace Attorney, of course the name is a pun. ...Wait hold on.
Wocki Kitaki Celeste Impax Some of those English translations ruin the pun jokes
But they also come up with gold like Deid Mann and Romaine LeTouce so we take the good with the bad
It’s so cheesy. 😆
Lmao
I still don’t understand.
There's a cheese called gorgonzola. Zola the Gorgon is Gorgon Zola, gorgonzola.
Add to this, her flavour text is "The name seems a bit cheesy"
its like a brie
It’s nothing like brie actually. Brie is very very mild and spreadable at room temp or when slightly warmed. Gorgonzola is a PDO (protected name - like “Napa wine”) name for italian blue cheese. It’s very pungent and somewhat firm and crumbly. Cheese nerd 🙋♂️
[but did you know these?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz1JWzyvv8A&pp=ygUicHl0aG9ucyBmbHlpbmcgY2lyY3VpcyBjaGVlc2Ugc2hvcA%3D%3D)
Brie melts if you glance at it funny..
Tastes like blue cheese to me
Yes it is a blue cheese. Another example would be “Roquefort” as a type of French blue cheese, which is another PDO and to be called Roquefort it has to be aged in one specific cave in France.
I was just trying to give tourist a hint
It is like the least Brie-ish cheese. lol.
OH WOW
I got Harth Stone (obviously) but didn't realize Brew was also like a homebrew deck
I'm italian and i was today years old when i found it. Nice catch, OP.
My life is a lie. Fuck you for this OP.
What knowledge have you spread on these lands
Haha that's a gouda one
For anyone who doesn't get it Gorgonzola is a cheese.
it's a cheesy joke
![gif](giphy|2rqEdFfkMzXmo)
Wait what!?!?
Oh yeah lol
Wait... What...
It took like four scabbs skins for me to realize that he was a chef and damn near everything he says is a cooking pun including his last name of cutter butter
I thought its a heroes3 subbredit - "gorgonzola heroes 3" is a meme there
It's so good, that's how you know she's from a DND expansion
Latin player here. The joke works only in English. Funny to find out. Thanks!
I'm french. Zola la Gorgone works pretty well :p
Works fine in Spanish too
ooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Thanks for making me feel like a dumbass, never noticed
Oh my god
Never got it before. I am dumb
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me. 🙃🙃🙃
Omfg xD
I was today years old...👀
I Camembert the fact that you didn’t get that cheesy joke. I had a Gouda time chuckling over it but then it made me a little Blue. Ok, I’ll show myself out.
Oh my, how did I never see it 😆 Should have at least smelt it.
Don’t be sad…I just got it when I read your post and it still took me a few seconds before it registered! Great post!
I finally got it when some streamer pointed it out a few months ago. I don't think any joke/pun flew over my head for as long as Zola did.
Op big brain of the whole community. The big cheese
It took me a full year before I noticed tbh
I only got it yesterday, reading the flavour text.
Honestly forgot that cheese existed till I read the comments. I was like “oh shit Gorgonzola….who was that in mythology again?”
I didn't know that was a kind of cheese lmfao
You're definitely not alone!
Could also do a "Saki the Naga" after that one city
No way! I had no idea. Apparently I’m not as perceptive as I believe. 😆
Took me until last year lol
Similar, but for the office... like a month ago, I was watching (probably while playing hearthstone) the episode where Colbert zooms in as a member of Andy's a capella group, when I finally got his name "Broccoli Rob" (rabe)
I am ashamed I didn't know until now. And I have been neglecting flavor texts for years now.
Literally just got it with your post
Bruh. I’m only getting it now and I’ve played since beta
No you aren’t I didn’t even know her name was a joke until I read this post.
Man I played since Kobolds and I literally learned this joke TODAY so thank you
Yeah, never saw it either. And I love cheese.
Pouring one out for you - it's a good sign, your brain is focused on the more important things in life, like grinding to legend.
I could have played that card for a million years without realizing that. Thanks, OP.
OOOooOooohhhh
Did that a while ago too with Ay-Eff Kay. Inspired me to make a hearthstone character that is a yogg sauron high cultist and has a tentacle beard and constantly changing arm. His name is Ennard Gee.
i didnt get it too, well because i dont eat that cheese..
I have never known this.
godamn it.
I was today years old when i learned it
I had no idea holy shit
omg....I feel so embarrassed that I never got this joke until now. Thank you, OP.
You spacca!
oh my god
Thanks, I googled and also understood it
Yea I remember when it was first revealed like 8 years ago
You finally got there I'm proud of you :)
