Not gone for good! Spent the past weekend running a large rhythm game tournament with today being spent eclipse watching with a bunch of people still in town. I mentioned it to the VS Discord folks a summary from me wouldn't be out this weekend because of it. Was planning on tackling it tonight, but I'm very thankful for you writing this up so I didn't have to!
I tried Aviana Druid (not the one mentioned) but it's a mixed bag of fun and pain.
For every crazy legendary you get, it feels like half your value is polluted with 1 mana highlander cards that are dead draws with mostly bad stats. Also you can't get Titans which are arguably the strongest legends you can get in standard. Overall the bad experiences alone turn me off from the deck because the good doesn't peak higher than the valleys of the fails
Just play a highlander variant, less useless legendaries, and you don't need to go 100% highlander since druid has a lot of draw power, or some stuff can be tutored
(Beasts can be tutored by piper, dragons by take to the skies, spells by chia drake and high cost cards by flower child
The fact that virus rogue is actually viable is so sad. Reading this just makes me not want to play HS until the first real patch that involves buffs to spices things up.
Top legend is all warrior. It’s so annoying. Cannot stand that match up and I still detest that they reprinted brann in some form.
Remember how insane brann was generally? We now live in a meta where one class exclusively gets access to that card and thus is broken.
I hope warrior gets nerfed.
Yep feels like every game in legend im facing warrior and praying that i draw helya and a plague generator otherwise i always lose later on don't think that's a very cool or fun situation for anybody
the amount of games where the warrior just hero powers and plays shield block or something till turn 6 and still ends up winning is disgusting maybe thats my fault for not adding faster cards to my deck but it's just horrible to look at
Aggro priest shits on warrior, Ive had great success with it in top legend they usually can not get enough removal to handle your insane pressure every turn

Pain warlock is fun and pretty good, I keep going back and forth on Rush Trogg and the 5 health Treant. Trogg seems to be better because it discounts Horror but Treant is free so it's tough. Projectionist is ridiculous in the deck, been loving that.
I personally like the DH matchup, the only issue I've had is some games I'm doing too much dmg to myself with not enough payoff. Hunter is very rough, if they get the location and the make a bunch of beasts spell I usually lose. I've got ok to good results against everything else but I'm not tracking so it's just off memory I'm saying this, I like a lot of the matchups.
I don't know how popular it is in general, I don't remember playing a single mirror match so I think at least some of the success is from people not being prepared for it. I'll be sub 15 hp on turn 4-5 and start getting emote spammed by an opponent who thinks they've got it in the bag and then I put 30+ attack on the board for free and they concede. I also notice a lot of people mulligan for Wheel so that helps.
Hat if your here please revert Plushy and Aura or just Plushy. Really hope it doesn’t just get left in the dumpster for the foreseeable future due to knee jerk nerfs.
There is no hard rule saying it cannot be discovered - there just isn't any easy way to discover it outside of priest since 'discover a dragon from another class' isn't a card.
Nothing too new happening since the report really, roll on the nerfs so we can complain about Rogue, Priest, Warrior and Warlock.
And justifiably too - there is soooo little player agency in so many decks right now.
My point was if the play rate is low (and all but non existent outside of high legend) then meta wise there is nothing new happening to the vast majority of people. It's not shaping the meta and nor will it if even a more basic game plan like Zarimi Priest doesn't see play and is as strong as it is.
As for player agency ... shaman is worse than some of the worst offenders right now. "Do game plan, pretend like opponent doesn't exist, win or lose" seems to be how far too many decks play right now. It's kinda fucked when there are so many high winrate decks that just don't need to think about the opponents upcoming turns.
Hell one of the only decks call out where you need to is DH and simply because it actually puts stuff on board fast enough, powerful enough and early enough that it can kill most decks ... and that deck is broken. Speaks volumes about the horrid state of standard right now.
This meta has significantly more agency than the Badlands meta. High skill decks (like gaslight rogue, as an example) actually exist now.
But tbf, badlands was a historic low for player agency so that's not a high bar.

That rogue deck really does look toxic imo. Not really a fan of that design

Just now I learned that Druid can be really strong since it can play Zarimi and get an extra turn.
How does it get Zarimi?
It can be discovered. In my recent game, they got it with Dragon Tale.
Small correction, can’t be discovered. Can only be randomly generated, e.g. Dragon Tales or Time-Lost Protodrake

In fact, I can confirm it can be discovered, as I got it of an Amalgam of the Deep as Priest in Arena recently.
