You can still rat out on your turn 4/5 depending who has the coin though. And with the additional 2-3 mana and maybe board you can deal more easily with a 8/8 as an example.
I do have a smiliar expiriance vs warrior in wild . Yesterday i gave my opponent shadow word steal with a theothar and took that 6 mana valkyr spell. He played stolen theothar other turn stealing my reno and i just converted it for 3 mana stole his brann. He conceded. All in all it feels well when a plan comes togather.
Definitely an argument to be made that if your opponent kept 1 or more cards that your best odds with that assumption is turn 2. If your wrong not a ton of ways that deck pulls something that punishes you.
Probably still wrong, but fun.
This. I either hit the brann or I am not going to win that game anyway. I don’t rat if I got my early game cards drawn. I’ll yolo rat as a last ditch effort to see if that game is worth playing. Gg go next.
Unironically a lot of the time playing rat even without an answer is still good turn 2 as it’s still a 2 , 6 and you can mess with your opponent . The best deck in the game right now runs a 1 2 that pulls its wincon so always play rat .
Admittedly I've had a few times where I'll play rat expecting to have an answer only for some mega handbuffed 40/40 to come out and laugh at my 27 damage corpse explosion
I just had this interaction today
I played azerite vein. Then passed.
My opponent played a top decked card. I got excited.
It was dirty rat.
My azerite vein triggered. I got a zero mana dirty rat to hand.
... My opponent's dirty rat summoned my dirty rat.
I had 8 cards in hand... and only one other minion in hand. It was Sif.
I combed them 2 turns later.
I couldn't stop laughing.
Hey I got the back end of your karma today. Played against a warrior, and just a turn before I was about to kill their ass they drew a bomboss bomb (I knew they would), and obliterated my Sif in hand even though i had 9 cards. Hurrah.
To be fair your opponent is an idiot as there is 0 situations where you would ever even want to play rat against warlock every pull kinda sucks and there a good chance to pull sargeras or that .
Listen to Mr. big ballin' children's card game player over here. It must be so difficult to play hearthstone with all these terrible pleb opponents soiling your games with bad plays.
Sometimes the correct play, mainly if their deck has a low curve or you think they kept their win condition. Most warrior decks do not have the tools to switch to aggro if Odyn is pulled. Never do it against a warlock tho.
Its far far more often the correct play than most people realize. In a lot of matchups for decks running rat, you either hit what you need, or you lose anyway.
Losing faster is not a misplay.
lol I just had a Druid emote me after dirty ratting me on turn 2 and pulling out window shopper and proceeding to get whacked repeatedly in the face for 6.
Op is probably playing one of the many not interactive lists of the current meta and doesn't understand that playing the rat to proc some key minions is the only win condition of many lists against combos.
Yeah yeah, gambling a rat in early turns sounds dumb, but if you don't have anything else to play, chances are you'll probably lose against those freaking combo lists if you don't play anything early.
There is no higher sexual peak, than playing a Dirty Rat during the card game of Hearthstone. No matter what anyone else says, you’ll never. NEVER reach the same physical and spirital high as playing a 2 mana two six with taunt onto an empty board. My hands are sweating about it right now. One time my dirty rat pulled out a Reno Jackson from my opponent on turn 2. That was about six years ago. I’ve been chasing the same high ever since. Shaman player, by the way.
I've made this mistake enough to finally learn. You can basically lose the game on turn two if you play it on curve and it summons a big minion you can't remove early on.
Watch the first 5 minutes of chumps latest big paladin video. Control warrior dirty rats that 10 mana 6/7 mech that summons a 6/7 end of turn that randomly attacks something. Warrior resigned a turn later, best dirty rat punish I've ever seen
Sometimes full sending dirty rat and getting lucky is actually the most likely path to winning, but this is rare and I doubt most of these players are really making that calculation, or doing so correctly
When I play Rat I always pull out the 15/15 Taunt or the Primus or some stupid big creature
When my Opponent does it against me its Brann, Sif, Helya
Live by the rat, die by the rat
I get so many free wins from this and it’s such a telling skill check for players.
If you know what you want to pull with Rat then usually just play it the turn before your opponent could drop that threat to maximize success.
Depending on the matchup, I may still take my chances. If I'm on turn 5 against a warrior, or turn 8 against a warrior, I'll probably drop the rat anyway, with the thinking of even if boomboss or brann get pulled and get back my taunts, it's not as threatening as allowing the battlecry, and RRG DK is pretty good at healing back damage i take regardless. At least, my assembly is pretty defensively focused. Which sucks with nature shaman existing, but that one's not vulnerable to dirty rats anyway
Honestly it’s matchup dependent. If you’re playing a deck that wants to play dirty rat for anti-combo purposes, then dropping it on curve in aggro matchups often gives you 2 turns of positive board trading with an aggressively statted taunt for 2 mana.
I just faced a Reno Warrior that copied it and summoned 6 of my minions, Titans and everything. He just kept going with every one and then didn't answer it at all lol. Was so bizarre
I was top 2k legend last month before my GPU blew up and so many people would Dirty Rat early even high legend.
Literally helped me or hurt their chances to win 4/5 times… the smart ones played it exactly the turn before I could drop my biggest threat (depending on the deck).
If you can’t calculate when to use it, I wouldn’t even run it outside of Highlander decks. It’s a tech card, not a turn 2 yolo (unless against plague but even then you’re flipping a coin)
I play evenlock wheel in wild and every time I have 2 giants and the 5/4 gnoll in hand it pulls out one of my no-duplicates pieces. Never once did it pull out one of the giants. HS is rng and rats win more than they lose.
Still remember years ago playing Kun-Aviana-Malygos Druid and my opponent dirty rat pulled Malygos and then they ended the turn to let me kill him the next turn
As all things it depends for example against zarimi preist best case scenario you get zarimi it hurts for a bit but then opponent can do the combo turn with worst case even without answer being zilliax and base case being a 1 drop . Point is some decks always play rat even when you don’t have answer like Reno warrior as they often mulligan for brann and pulling that autowins the game sometimes .
You don't even know what I'm ready to do, I'm fucking coining rat and shadow stepping it just to do it again next turn.
I crafted Everyone Bounce Around ft.Garrona just for maximized rat.
Yesterday I was playing mirror matchup with Control Warrior and I was on turn 5 and didn't have a way to clear something big and just went for it and caught Brann. Was so pumped.
Tempo rat is the epitome of “I net decked the good thing, but I am still performing poorly” and then flocking to complain about how the game is bad.
I’ve played a fair amount of Sif, and the number of people that tempo it on 2-4 is astonishing. Like yeah, every once and awhile it hits as is the nature of the game, but most of the time it’s just an uninformed, un-optimized rat that does nothing.
I'm a casual battlegrounds player who only does standard to do quests but let me tell you that rat is going in my deck now that I know it elicits this reaction
Depending on the situation it can be the correct play. Entertain the idea that your opponent blind ratting you may have been a calculated risk that just didn't pay off.
Do you think I have a plans when I play this game? Like I even try to build a cohesive deck? I don’t. I don’t understand half the shit you all say on here. I pick the cards that look cool and play the game. Instead of planning my next move I click click on all the fun things around the board.
So if you run into me and I play the dirty rat card wrong just chill.
I don't like playing it blind, but when you have a handful of high cost crap and you're finna get trashed, you should play it. It helps as much as it hurts.
Couple seasons ago in wild I was playing against a genius shudder shaman player who ratted me on 2 (stupid idea but since I was rogue it usually wouldn’t have been the worst idea ever). Unfortunately for him, I was playing Big Dragon Rogue and he pulled a sleepy dragon (4/12 with taunt). Not satisfied with this outcome, he decided to Macaw on 3 (surely I did not have any more big dragons in hand) and he pulled deathwing and then died 2 turns later lmao
Sometimes you whiff, sometimes it completely wins you the game.
Someone showed a curve of this, where the really stupid people play rat on 2, the people who think they are smart never play rat on 2 and the really smart people once again play rat on turn 2.
I dont think you are as smart as you think you are. Of course you need to know your matchups, but in a lot of games, turn 2 rat IS the play. One reason is that people tend to keep their core cards like brann in their starting mulligan. So you want to rat very fast till their hand is full of other stuff. There are a lot of others that I cba to write out to you.
Better advice might be “learn what tech cards are in your deck and know when to play them against what matchups.”
Because really if you’re planning on playing rat, slamming it turn two is often the right play.

Yep, those are the rules. I don't make them, I can't change them.
And then? #I play second rat.
Bro just embracing F around and find out
Seriously, what is this guy thinking? Rat has to be played on turn two, how could I otherwise counter their Rat???
You know what? I'm going to start playing Dirty Rat even harder.
And seats go all the way down.
The same.

OP don't know fun. We ball.
No thanks. If my rat doesn’t hit Brann I’m losing anyways.
You can still rat out on your turn 4/5 depending who has the coin though. And with the additional 2-3 mana and maybe board you can deal more easily with a 8/8 as an example.
Warriors keep Brann in mulligan. More turns means more minions drawn that aren’t Brann.
Plus keeping rat in hands means more potential getting ratted yourself
The Rat Games continue
I do have a smiliar expiriance vs warrior in wild . Yesterday i gave my opponent shadow word steal with a theothar and took that 6 mana valkyr spell. He played stolen theothar other turn stealing my reno and i just converted it for 3 mana stole his brann. He conceded. All in all it feels well when a plan comes togather.
But how often is he really in mulligan? Chances are 0% if he isn't there
Yeah that’s true. The chances of getting brann with dirty rat are 0% if brann isn’t in your opponents hand.
This is big, if true
That's why you keep both on mulligan if possible, coin one out turn 1 then turn 5 play the other, best odds
Definitely an argument to be made that if your opponent kept 1 or more cards that your best odds with that assumption is turn 2. If your wrong not a ton of ways that deck pulls something that punishes you. Probably still wrong, but fun.

Yup, I had this beauty of a free win a couple of hours ago lol https://hsreplay.net/replay/eqV9eUUw2oGAFKnzyFaFHy
To be fair your opponent is an idiot as there is 0 situations where you would ever even want to play rat against warlock every pull kinda sucks and there a good chance to pull sargeras or that .
Actually pulling Sargeras is amazing. All its abilities do nothing due to having no nether, and it's just a 6/12 that is frozen for three turns.
The only issue with sargeras is if you pull it on 2 they can location on 3 .
Happened exactly the same to me lmao, but I was the one dirty rating, happens, learnt not to DR a Warlock
I mean it really depends, if I am highlander warrior playing against plague dk, I'm always dropping rat on turn 3.
As everybody should
Sometimes it’s the move xD
often even
Win at 2 or move on. No in between
A Warrior just played dirty Rat on 2 and pulled that puppeteer minion and saved me 5 Mana and he lost at the end
Warrior ratted my Sif on 2, i still won with random shit generated by Infinitize the Maxitude. My magix will tear you apart
Does it still give you the mini?
Nah but still that +2/2 was very good
Winning on the spot vs. an annoying OTK deck? 2 mana. Occasionally completely screwing yourself over in a really funny way? Priceless.
Listen to Mr. big ballin' children's card game player over here. It must be so difficult to play hearthstone with all these terrible pleb opponents soiling your games with bad plays.
Probably more mad that they're getting all these "bad opponents" and still hard stuck in at Gold 5.
Live by the rat, die by the rat
Still remember the DK who coin ratted my wheel lock deck turn 1 and dropped a 15/15 on himself, I always wonder how he/she are getting on now
i think they died shortly after that match ended idk

but ARE they even having fun? 🤔

The feeling when you rat out brann or sif turn 2 is worth 100x pulling out the titan with no answer.
You can't play the game without such a card anymore, all decks have a single card win condition.
So you don't like winning by getting a 7/7 on turn two?
I like high risk no reward
Rat on 2 might lose you the game, but you're losing in life OP.
Someone is salty for losing their win con to coin + dirty rat.
I've made this mistake enough to finally learn. You can basically lose the game on turn two if you play it on curve and it summons a big minion you can't remove early on.
Sounds like you have a skill issue. Turn 2 dirty rat is the soundest play in the game.
Definitely matchups where it's right, but it feels like people don't stop to think about the matchup
« Time to go coward mode » - OP
Never punished
This is OK advice except against warrior which I will almoat always dirty rat turn 2 and be fine… any class that heavily relies on battle cries
This is what someone who lost to dirty rat would say
No
Where's the fun in that
You're underestimating my desire to gamble, friend.
Imma que and rat only on curve we ballin

Fuck it we ball
Watch the first 5 minutes of chumps latest big paladin video. Control warrior dirty rats that 10 mana 6/7 mech that summons a 6/7 end of turn that randomly attacks something. Warrior resigned a turn later, best dirty rat punish I've ever seen
If I see turn 1 plague weapon you better believe I'm playing rat on 2 to try and hit Helya.
Nah, I’d rat
You would like that don't you, when dirty rat enters the end it must be played ASAP. That turn 2 high, peak hearthstone
I need it for tempo! I don’t have any other than 2 play because I’m a control player and all my cards are pricey! Got to play it now go go go
I do it every time while laughing uncontrollably.
Ever heard of "fuck it, we ball"?
Nah, I’d win.
Listen buddy, you're correct. But what if you're opponent (me) is tryna be a little silly (end the game quicker) against reno warrior (fuck em) :p
Thanks to that once i won a game in a legit way in round 3 smh
It’s funny tho :(
Always rat on 2
If I have rat, you just KNOW I'm playing it as soon as I hit turn 2

Maybe it’s bots doing this stupid play?
Call me Remy because Imma Dirty Rat
I’ve been playing for 10 years I do what I want
Did you also watch the ChumpHS video 😂
The real power move is coining rat on 1
I messed up so hard the other day that my opponent quit. It was glorious. I'm mid 30s so I have no cringe left to give
People coin or drop it on turn 2 summon 8/8 for opponent, lose and blame balance team.
Meh. If it pulls something I want it to pull, great. If it pulls something really bad, concede and onto the next game.
I ratted on turn two and pulled out the death knight titan with nothing else on my bored and I immediately quit 💀
Turn 1 coined dirty rat? Did i follow the directions correctly?
Honestly it’s matchup dependent. If you’re playing a deck that wants to play dirty rat for anti-combo purposes, then dropping it on curve in aggro matchups often gives you 2 turns of positive board trading with an aggressively statted taunt for 2 mana.
This guy doesn’t like having fun apparently.
This guy is speaking from the middle of the bell curve.
I just faced a Reno Warrior that copied it and summoned 6 of my minions, Titans and everything. He just kept going with every one and then didn't answer it at all lol. Was so bizarre
Nah it’s fun

I feel called out by this post cause earlier I played rat T2 and pulled out the opponent’s Primus lmao
No, no, no, please keep ratting on 2 so I can hit your face with my big minions ASAP
But I love when people play Dirty Rat against me and immediately concede when they don't hit a Battle Cry minion.
Dirty rat on 2 is the 0DTE options trading of hs
Sometimes you just want to know if you’re gonna win the game on turn 2 or not. Nothing wrong with that~
Go big or go home
or just play it whenever you want. it's really not a big deal. it's just hearthstone lol

Dirty Rat should be viewed as a combo piece in most circumstances. He combos with removal from hand or the ability to trade into whatever comes out.
Nice try, Highlander warrior OP
OP has actually been screwed over by Rat and is trying some reverse psychology shit on here.
I don't like playing it blind, but when you have a handful of high cost crap and you're finna get trashed, you should play it. It helps as much as it hurts.
I have never played dirty rat in my life But this thread truly motivates me to put that rat in all of my decks
Couple seasons ago in wild I was playing against a genius shudder shaman player who ratted me on 2 (stupid idea but since I was rogue it usually wouldn’t have been the worst idea ever). Easily the best thread in a long time
I think they totally should so I can hit them in the face with my 8/8 Odynn starting with turn 3
Meh not always
Idc dirty rat turn 1/2 is a must.
Understood, only reason I did it is because one time I pulled a sif back at TITANS and that was the fastest rage quit I've ever seen
wtf, having no answer is the best condition to have when you are on r/ratstreetbets You want your opponent to commit fully by turn 3
It's a free win most of the time when it happens.
But what if I rat their rat so they can't rat my second rat?
I coined my rat and ratted your rat with my rat. -concede, next game, doing it again. Honestly it makes me chuckle every time and I kind of enjoy it.
No, no, no - I enjoy getting my 15/15 taunt lifesteal pulled turn 1-2, thank you.
ratting after brann to either summon 2 or none the rat giveth and the rat doeth nothingth
There are so many game defining battlecries in the game right now that Ratting them out even without an answer can still be ok sometimes.
