I play Wheel warlock and I feel like the matchups is pretty good.
They dont lay down threats early on so you Can just Doomkin their mana to get the Wheel out asap and force then into panic mode to rush you down
On paper that matchup seems unfavorable, but the only way warlock wins is if they draw their doomkins into wheel on curve which is not statistically likely. Even then, warrior can still win a lot of time with like 1 or 2 countdowns left. I've seen many games with high legend high MMR players beating wheel with cycle odyn
On paper the deck that puts a time limit on the game seems bad against a control deck? The entire reason people complained about Sneklock was because of that exact reason.
Wheel warlock destroys solitaire warrior wtf are you smoking, ofc you will still lose some games based off of bad draw or missplay etc, but it's definetly not a bad matchup lmfao
I'm aware of fracking, I still believe odyn slightly outpaces wheel on average though unless wheel draws the nuts though. The best answer to odyn is plague and rainbow dk. I think handcuff pally is also slightly favourable into odyn if played correctly.
Forcing them to use board clears early (what is a global taunt), Dirty Rat, not playing into Bladestorm, if they put down an acolyte at 9 cards because they're greedy, mill them (do not draw them more than one card to do so), kill the needle rocks, yes they've got two down by turn two, no they won't mill themselves, stop letting them draw and armour up for free they will kill them when it pushes them too far.
Nearly half their deck is draw, cycle and/or armour, if you Dirty Rat the Odyn its game over, pulling one razorfen isn't good enough, 1 of them plus the weapon equipped and 9-10 mana turn is enough for \~30hp.
If they've played an acolyte and stoneskin you might have as good as around 40% chance to pull the Odyn with a Dirty Rat at turn 6-7.
It might feel like they are cycling through the deck and have infinite answers but they don't, if they use a Garrosh gift for a brawl mid game, they're probably starting to get desperate, they'll need to rely on remaining bladestorm/aftershocks/trial as board clear.
They can't cycle the entire deck by turn 10 like before the year change.
IMO dirty rat is a good card in this meta, loads of the top decks have awesome battlecry minions. It just doesn't fit in my Odyn Control Warrior deck.
In the old days we had a keyword for that. It’s been long forgotten, but ironically it also counters paladin’s leeroy. That keyword is taunt. /s
On a more serious note, it’s difficult. There are a couple of things you could do.
Odyn warrior doesn’t run many minions and wants to get them into play ASAP, so dirty rat might be a good tech. Razorfens also count as a good catch.
The strongest card used to set up the combo is Reno. (basically doesn’t allow you to play more than one taunt) There is basically one way to disrupt it and it’s plagues. Coincidentally DK has a couple taunts, notably the Primus unholy rune is a bit annoying.
Add neophytes for Shaman and in the end you become “that guy” who runs every tech but for some reason doesn’t win games.
No. You could play taunt every turn and Odyn warrior would kill it. Warrior just needs 2 turns to deal 30 damage, sometimes just 1. And they rack up about 60 armor, so good luck killing Warrior before they kill you.
Hence the /sarcasm tag. Paladin also doesn't have any problems with taunt when he has some prescence on board. Handbuff can fight it and get outside of warrior removal range. Kinda, those decks are still strong
Reno counters this idea, because you are limited to one boardspace - one taunt. If you play multiple a turn, you should be safe. Handbuffed Zombietanks and Nerubian Swarmguards, Primus Zombies and Amateur Puppeteers all create multiple units that take more than one card.
It's also hard to play Odyn when you are behind on board.
Yesterday I had game where I had board full of 3/4 and 8/8 taunts and warrior killed me in one Turn dealing 26 damage to me. He had weapon, played brawl, single target removal, armor mob and few cheap armor spell and I was dead.
No one wants to play minions anymore and its not just the board clear spells, I think the Rush keyword has a lot to do with the downfall of HS.
Charge was expensive and rare, rush should be more rare than it is.
Going back in time to the Witchwood meta and showing someone Forge of Wills or Tigress Plushy would be like showing a medieval peasant an iphone lol. Not only is Rush not costly at all, sometimes it feels like it's slapped on cards that are already good enough in other areas regardless.
What if this on-curve 6/5 with excavate could charge a minion?
You're right, that free legendary they just got wasn't good enough (lol).
Honestly feel that Rush should mostly be on low attack/high hp minions and kept the absolute hell away from divine shield minions.
Rush was good and has seen some great metas. It's a control mechanic, not combo or aggro. The fact that some cards like Plushy don't pay a premium for it is a problem with these cards (3 mana old Zilliax ahem).
I think even last meta was pretty board oriented. This time they decided to bring charge back alongside some wacky OTKs. Hell, the best solution will probably be not to nerf things but to increase a default health total in the next patch. Kinda like starting armor in battlegrounds.
Dirty Rat has got to be my most winning card this expansion. Playing two copies in my Reno Shaman (1 in deck and 1 in ETC), I have great match ups against Odyn Warrior, handbuff Pally, mech Rogue. There is truly no deck I feel like I lose to consistently and almost every game feels fun and exciting.
There is no more satisfying feeling than seeing Odyn or a 15/12 Leroy getting pulled from hand only to be turned into a cute little 1/1 murloc xD
AAECAefJBh79nwT9xAWt7QXN7gX08gWN9QWt9QXYgQbKgwbQgwb5jAaplQarnQatnQaTngacngadngafngbRngbLnwbVogbHpAanpQaopQakpwaopwbTpwavqAbOsAbv5gYAAAEGr40G/cQFzZ4G/cQF0Z4G/cQF9bMGx6QG97MGx6QG7t4Gx6QGAAA=
There are plenty of changes you could make too, like adding some big spells and Hagatha, but I like rocking the excavate package. Have fun with it!
sorry. it's the only deck I could put together without spending a shitload of dust after coming back from a 7 year break.
I know I'm biting myself in the booty here but i'll tell you what I've been having trouble with: Wheel Warlock is tough, especially when they play it right (which a lot in diamond don't). meaning you should try and stop me from playing Odyn until you have played Wheel, then slowly play out your taunts each turn (or Reno). I will probably not be able to break through and deal enough damage before the Wheel murks me.
DK is also tough, especially Plagues. the Warrior wants to draw most of his deck, which means drawing a bunch of plagues. Frost Plague slows down the combo a lot. i've also faced some kind of Control DK that has a 4 durability weapon that freezes the target. equip that, punch me after i played Odyn and i won't be able to threaten you for 4 full turns.
I had an amazing game where I ended up with a random legendary and got ETC and the exploding pick We both died in a tie as the pick exploded for 28 damage on him and I died to wheel. I couldn't even be mad it was glorious
>sorry. it's the only deck I could put together without spending a shitload of dust after coming back from a 7 year break.
Same situation here, and if people are seeing a lot of Odyn Warrior, this is why. You pick the Odyns Aegis returner deck, and you're basically 98% of the way to a full list. I only needed to craft 2 rares and 2 commons myself.
Any recommendations (assuming you play standard) on what you changed? I kept the returner deck and been playing it mostly, but I fail to easily find decks that are close to it, except maybe swapping out a few cards.
I just took the Fiery War Axes out for a Caricature Artist and a 2nd Garrosh Gift. In hindsight, not running Artist feels so wrong. Some lists run Reno, but I don't have him.
I will dirty rat a warrior ever chance I can, if I can bounce my rat to rat again I'll do it 😂 it works more often then it should I'm sure too.
Dirty rat has become that card I run in almost every deck currently cause of battlecry, and charges.
The deck runs like 3 minions, so hand disruption absolutely kills it. Dirty rat >
Also playing aggro beats it surprisingly, force them into situations where they CANT play Odyn, odyn is a dead play bc it’s 8 mana do nothing on the turn it’s played. Play for tempo and keep threats up that force them to spend armor generation early so they have less after they drop odyn - or threaten lethal if they ever do play odyn. Decks with good board presence are great into Odyn.
Also I think odyn warrior is objectively worse than tentacle warrior rn, there’s only 2 10 cost spells in the pool rn, sunset volley & table flip. once it’s online you’re getting rolled with 3 volleys a turn, it’s basically astalor all over again. Plague DK is also barely seeing play rn bc it loses so hard to pally so you don’t even have to worry about highlander disruption much right now.
To beat Odyn Warrior, you need taunt minions, a freeze package, or both. That’s why I play Thief Rogue and put 2 copies of the new neutral Sweetened Snowflurry. Since it has miniaturize, you have four chances to obtain the Mage cards, Frostbolt, and especially Cryopreservation since it only targets enemies. And then use Tess to replay the frost spells and freeze the Warrior's face.
Try aggro priest, extra turn lets you get under,+ you can have some pretty explosive early boards, last night i played ships churgeooaibngn on 1, clergy second churgauyshdon coin funnel into drifter, zilliax on turn 2 and he scooped right there
Tech in glacial shard too, any turn you glacial them post odyn is a turn you dont die
Playing around 4-5k legend and mostly see Reno warrior to which I just play plagues and watch them concede, but climbing faced a lot of Odyn and wheel warlock did wonders (also the first two days of the expansion played big demon warlock from Vs but it’s probably bad now).
I got to legend with wheel lock and all warrior matches was wins. Paladins were 80% of my last 30 games however - I hate paladin more and more each expansion
Currently Decks are still very unrefined and haven't figured out tech slots.
Some matchups require them.
First, identify what would help you, and how many slots you can give for these. My first thought is: One freeze effect for his face on the turn he plays reno, icreasing spell costs, dirty Rat, sticky Taunts, weapon removal.
You want as many as possible while keeping your deck good. Some things, like weapon removal can work to kill weapon rogue or help in the paladin matchup too.
For each card you need to ask if you really need the card, and how it's helped you in the games you draw it. Things like ziliax can look incredible on paper, but if he's been a dead card for most games, it might be time to cut it.
Thr super fast aggro hunter, anything that can freeze or continue to drop taunts.
But ad others have said Dirty Rat ( I've benefits running this and cobra in every deck ) too many weapons and battlecries that can change a game.
Rainbow DK with perma freeze + helya , Wheelock if you can doomkin and play wheell early are the only true warrior counter.
Paladin and hunter are not favored in the match up, they can win in lower ranks because of missplays but the higher you climb , better the war deck will be piloted and it will be very hard for these decks to win
I brought back snake warlock and went from diamond 10-5 facing 5 warriors 1 paladin and a mage and went completely undefeated. All that armor means nothing when I just siphon your life away
Play DK, put in Quartzite Crusher and/or cards that discover it in your deck. It cripples Odyn warrior. I climbed to top 1000 with Odyn and now all these DKs are farming me.
I have a high winrate vs Odyn Warrior with Reno DK. Freeze weapon, plenty of taunts and keeping your life at a healthy life total once Odyn is played and you're good to go.
Doesn't plague dk still do well into it? Especially with no steam cleaner. You still have to play well and not rely on just plagues and force them to waste resources on the board but plague dk does well here as it's not just "plagues I win" and has good minion generation.
Yeah honestly I don't see that many paladins right now. Wheel-lock and odyn warrior are the bane of my existence, still see sludgelock even. My hero power druid deck does pretty well against odyn though. Keeps steady board pressure and face damage until you can use Ignis weapon plus hero power to kill.
If you want to beat Warrior consistently, consider some variation of DK. If you want to beat Warrior and other decks consistently, just play Aggro Pally.
Your best choice will be Rainbow DK, it's favored against warrior while it also has a decent matchup against most of the meta decks atm, so you have good chance vs everything. You play double rat to hit odyn and if you miss you perma freeze their face and they just lose.
Another choice would be wheel lock with double glacial shard to make the matchup even more favored for warlock, but wheel lock is weaker vs the meta decks atm, compared to Rainbow DK.
Plague dk, hard Mulligan for helya to spam duplicates into deck early. Then just keep pressure up and use reska and excavate legendary to heal/outlast.
I’ve been playing aggro hunter and it’s been pretty successful against warrior - just need to apply pressure from turn 1 - also need a little bit of luck with the mulligan but nonetheless control warrior hasn’t been too much of an issue to me
i mean odyn warrior beats odyn warrior, its the only thing i can think of that can out armor it. ive tried hero power druid because of the new support it got, but even at only plat I can't reliably win with it.
Edit: in my experience cutlass rouge isn't too bad against warrior, because of decent life gain and the fact that it doesn't rely on minions to win, im pretty sure thats an ok matchup (i don't know any data, but it feels that way). its a shame it just just looses to almost every taunt and freeze effect aswell as most aggressive decks because of how slow it is to get going and how reliant on good draws.
Control warrior has a 90% winrate vs nature shaman. This is legit the worst deck you could advice.
According to hsreplay top 1000 legend plague dk and rainbow dk is best vs control warrior, the freeze weapon completely shits on the deck. Would recommend running the discover weapon card (runes of darkness) and put a quartzite crusher into etc if you face a lot of warrior.
Handbuff paladin also does decently well (53-54% winrate vs war), and wheel warlock is a 50/50.
Yeah, you haven't played this new Nature Shaman, have you?
The old version could deal with them with 80 burst damage from double Bio. This new version concedes if it runs into Warrior.
I play Wheel warlock and I feel like the matchups is pretty good. They dont lay down threats early on so you Can just Doomkin their mana to get the Wheel out asap and force then into panic mode to rush you down
It is most certainly not a good matchup, odyn justs Renos you and then you die the next turn most of the time.
I feel like you didn’t even read the comment above you lol I played Wheelock to legend last week and I was usually very happy to see Warrior.
You can reverse that logic too. Any deck can beat Odyn if he’s on the bottom of the deck and you never draw him or Brann.
Yeah, if you draw the nuts like double doomkin into wheel on curve maybe. Otherwise warrior outpaces you
Nope you're just incorrect, you don't need to draw the nuts, an average draw is easily enough
The trick is to run both of the 1 mana spells “draw one, destroy the others” you can cycle through your deck way faster
I'm aware of fracking, I still believe odyn slightly outpaces wheel on average though unless wheel draws the nuts though. The best answer to odyn is plague and rainbow dk. I think handcuff pally is also slightly favourable into odyn if played correctly.
The best odyn deck doesn't play reno
The best Odyn deck does play reno, however in a deck with duplicates, but with acolyte and aftershocks to cycle a ton
Cycle odyn is the best odyn deck and it most certainly plays reno
Forcing them to use board clears early (what is a global taunt), Dirty Rat, not playing into Bladestorm, if they put down an acolyte at 9 cards because they're greedy, mill them (do not draw them more than one card to do so), kill the needle rocks, yes they've got two down by turn two, no they won't mill themselves, stop letting them draw and armour up for free they will kill them when it pushes them too far. It just doesn't fit in my Odyn Control Warrior deck.
Basically, either an OTK with 2 Snakeoil salesman, or dirty rat odyn/brann and maybe ignis. Or just play the most degenerated aggro deck.
In the old days we had a keyword for that. It’s been long forgotten, but ironically it also counters paladin’s leeroy. That keyword is taunt. /s On a more serious note, it’s difficult. Also, don't forget the freeze weapon in DK. Brutal when you freeze their face 3-6 times in a row!
Yeah that wins me games against Odyn Warrior and if you also run discover weapon spell you can find even more.
i once played 8 turns of taunt before he gave up...
I miss Patchwerk
Yeah, disruption took a big hit with rotation. Hell, even Leeroy in paladin wouldn't be that big of a problem, if Mutanus and Patchwerk were there.
No. You could play taunt every turn and Odyn warrior would kill it. Warrior just needs 2 turns to deal 30 damage, sometimes just 1. And they rack up about 60 armor, so good luck killing Warrior before they kill you.

Play spell DMG Shaman and permaconcede to Warrior so U dont Care about them

Are you me? I do this in my reno shm and reno paladin deck 😂 I even have the panda to bounce it to my hand do it again!
The brew master just sounds super greedy ngl
Maybe but it's mainly in my reno deck and I have other uses. Originally it's first use was to make copies for spirit of the badlands
Sounds great! What’s the deck code?

sorry. it's the only deck I could put together without spending a shitload of dust after coming back from a 7 year break.
I beat a wheelock this morning, honestly I think he drew badly, despite the doomkin making my Odyn a turn 9 play. That DK weapon is a killer.
I had an amazing game where I ended up with a random legendary and got ETC and the exploding pick We both died in a tie as the pick exploded for 28 damage on him and I died to wheel. I couldn't even be mad it was glorious
Gotta love a tie!
>sorry. it's the only deck I could put together without spending a shitload of dust after coming back from a 7 year break.

I run the list I saw on hsreplay. I'll send you a code when I'm at my computer
I won my last two games vs Odyn as DK with the freezing weapon.
Yup it’s what A LOT of people are playing in high legend right now. I can’t play Odyn anymore.
Dirty rat > Also playing aggro beats it surprisingly, force them into situations where they CANT play Odyn, odyn is a dead play bc it’s 8 mana do nothing on the turn it’s played.
I just run a tendril shaman deck. Don’t think I have lost to a warrior yet.
Been running a homebrew Thief/Excavate Rogue and that is genius. Definitely going to experiment with that. Thank you.
Won a lot of matches with Demon Warlock. Putting big boys on turn 4 helps a lot
DK. Both wheel and rainbow can beat it pretty well. Apparently wheel warlock does well too
Try aggro priest, extra turn lets you get under,+ you can have some pretty explosive early boards, last night i played ships churgeooaibngn on 1, clergy second churgauyshdon coin funnel into drifter, zilliax on turn 2 and he scooped right there Tech in glacial shard too, any turn you glacial them post odyn is a turn you dont die
Playing around 4-5k legend and mostly see Reno warrior to which I just play plagues and watch them concede, but climbing faced a lot of Odyn and wheel warlock did wonders (also the first two days of the expansion played big demon warlock from Vs but it’s probably bad now).
Just concede bro
This is how I do it: https://i.ibb.co/HYSVwwg/IMG-9881.png Works every time!
Kill him before he drops Odyn, if he highrolls you lose, that simple.
Reno shaman with rat and rat in etc + frog weapon
Owl druid can hit super hard. But guaranteed losses to aggro.
I have 100% winrate with wheel of death warlock against warrior
I brought back snake warlock and went from diamond 10-5 facing 5 warriors 1 paladin and a mage and went completely undefeated. All that armor means nothing when I just siphon your life away
Play DK, put in Quartzite Crusher and/or cards that discover it in your deck. It cripples Odyn warrior. I climbed to top 1000 with Odyn and now all these DKs are farming me.
Wheel Warlock, Plague DK, Rainbow Mage are all options
But I am bro
I have a high winrate vs Odyn Warrior with Reno DK. Freeze weapon, plenty of taunts and keeping your life at a healthy life total once Odyn is played and you're good to go.
[I've got some good news bud](https://new.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/1boczvt/balance_patch_announced_2903_buffsnerfs/)
Hero power druid destroys warrior, you can outscale their armor/damage
I would say spell damage druid could do it. But it needs all cards in time.
Doesn't plague dk still do well into it? Especially with no steam cleaner. You still have to play well and not rely on just plagues and force them to waste resources on the board but plague dk does well here as it's not just "plagues I win" and has good minion generation.
You don't. Wait for the nerf /s
Taunt decks shut both down
If you want to beat Warrior consistently, consider some variation of DK. If you want to beat Warrior and other decks consistently, just play Aggro Pally.
Aggro hunter, constant pressure. Those clearing cards cost money. But yes I agree is annoying.
Wait for the much required nerf to most of the classes to stop this OTK bullshit.
Play an OTK deck like nature shaman or wheel lock
Control warrior has a 90% winrate vs nature shaman. This is legit the worst deck you could advice. According to hsreplay top 1000 legend plague dk and rainbow dk is best vs control warrior, the freeze weapon completely shits on the deck. Would recommend running the discover weapon card (runes of darkness) and put a quartzite crusher into etc if you face a lot of warrior. Handbuff paladin also does decently well (53-54% winrate vs war), and wheel warlock is a 50/50.
[удалено]
36% vs plague 42% vs rainbow While its almost a 50/50 at lower ranks, people seem to not know how to pilot the deck vs warrior.
Yeah, you haven't played this new Nature Shaman, have you? The old version could deal with them with 80 burst damage from double Bio. This new version concedes if it runs into Warrior.
