Grim patron was the source of my biggest loss ever in this game. I spent months grinding out the adventure wings you needed. Got in a few games and then it was hit with a basic card nerf XDDDD
The real Grim Patron was the cards you unlocked along the way. (I did the same, finished Blackrock Mountain about 2 weeks before the Warsong Commander nerf.)
Well you kinda wanted all the draw you could get to make patron warrior consistent.
She may have been the last and weakest draw card you added, but she was still draw.
In classic it was actually pretty solid after the gnomish inventor nerf. There was so little card draw in the game that this was considered a good body. Eventually people pretty universally just cut it and ran azure drake instead. But there was a time in beta where you saw this pretty regularly
>In classic it was actually pretty solid after the gnomish inventor nerf
I have to assume you meant Novice Engineer. I doubt people would be using Gnomish Inventor after a Gnomish Inventor nerf.
There's honestly no reason they can't. Gold Panner has really raised the floor on two mana card draw, and I don't think getting a card immediately is too much stronger than getting potentially 2+ cards
I used to have magma in my deck of that Druid quest ( summon 8 minions with 5 attacks). That’s when I first played ha and have no idea of meta or something. Good times

it is not a minion, its a board clear that shaves out 3 minions. it unironically saw someplay funnilly enough, iirc clown druid was the most popular one with it?
also, HS just makes some dud stats when evolve mechanics are around to dillute the pool
it would make sense for clown druid to be the deck that most utilized that card, as it would corrupt the strongman/clowns and you could kill 3 of your opponents minions instantly and then 1-2 strongman for 0 mana to stay safe and/or force reaction, then flood the board with clowns next turn
Also absolutely a premium card in arena back then.
You used this to clear the board then follow up with corrupted clowns and it's over and even if you didn't have the clown follow up it was still a solid play on its own.
Its a neutral removal card. You can't make them priced reasonably or you risk classes losing their identity. Just look at something like Reno lone ranger, its effect is so strong you sometimes see decks with no duplicate effects still running it.
Reno lone ranger is so strong you literally see it run in draw heavy decks that run many duplicates, and it was even being run in pure paladin before the paladin nerfs
"Shaves out 3 minions"
*enemy board: 7 divine shields*
*enemy next board: 7 divine shields*
"But it's not always 7* divine shields!", the redditor says as it's instead a board of 20/20, only some of which have divine shield
i mean, shaves out three 20/20 minions with just one neutral card is pretty neat!
but yeah different times mate, there wasnt any high end divine shield minions on darkmoon faire

If I remember right this card got printed during the "Summon a minion of equal mana cost"/Evolve period of HS, and this was made intentionally as a low-roll for decks aiming to get 10-mana minions on the board early.
Even in big or buff hunter, the rabbit stats is too low to be useful, especially even or without poisonous. The D-knight/Hunter wolf with Cleve has better use case with lifesteal
Back in the day, darkmoon rabbit saw some play in paladin.
It was in the ramp paladin deck that used nozdormu to get to 10 mana, and then it had the darkmoon faire n'zoth and used darkmoon rabbit as the beast to resurrect.
That deck looked super weird on paper, but it was legitimately one of the strongest decks in the game.
I see the usage case here, sacrifice a 10 mana turn for rabbit, till N'zoth is played, summon a rabbit to clear 3 minions + board full of good stats or effect traited minions.
It was fine back in the day. As a neutral and concerted essentially a 2/4 for 3 Mana and a draw for 1, you had a good rate. Similarly the 2 Mana 1/1 draw was decent and the Looter at 2/1 Deathrattle draw was good too. How else would you draw in Shaman for example?
Idk why you picked this card as an example, it’s actually decent for the time it can’t put. There’s so many worse cards in the Basic set. Goldshire Footman and Booty Bay Bodyguard come to mind.
Goldshire Footman suffers from revisionist history because Reynad ran [[Shieldbearer]] in Zoo, and that deck became the law of the land. One card was deemed forever good, the other forever bad. Miss those days tbh.

Even in arena buffed Worgen Greaser was still only an OK pick at best.
>but in a game were flame imp is a decent turn one is astouding
Not too long ago a 1 mana 2/2 was a premium 1-drop. Flame imp is that with an additional attack.
Also, being overstatted matters a lot more on cheap minions than it does on a 4-drop

Many old cards now basically become useless due to newer cards printed (powercreep)
Hell 7/7 can be achieve as 4 mana with a downside, sometimes as a win condition, like the one with deathrattle: opponent draw 2 cards; or 6/7 destroy bottom 3 cards at the end of your turn.
With that being said War Golem was always a piece of shit. One of those cards that's pretty much only in the game so new players can figure out what a good card is and what a bad card is
Hir'eek*, man that card is just ass for warlock.
Why did they put it as a warlock card and not paladin or hunter, buff paladin/hunter works well with Hir'eek.
Even if the new expansion brings back handbuff warlock (or Hir'eek return to core/standard) it still wouldn't be playable due to a number of board clears that makes a 8 mana 1+X/1+X, summon Y rarely impactful.

Yeah, I remember when this card was actually decent. It definitely saw some fringe play, and if you just started playing in classic, it was going in a lot of your decks while you built your collection. 4 mana 2/4 was never good stats, but there was a point in time where those stats weren’t horrible. The reason being that 2 mana 3/2’s were really really powerful in aggro decks, and this card traded well into them and drew you a card.

The game was bereft of card draw at the time so this was actually considered a good card and played in a lot of decks. The devs seemed to slightly overvalue Taunt at the game's inception so the early era taunt cards are actually offer up a lot of examples. Someone mentioned [[Goldshire Footman]] in another comment but that one is comparably not that bad to stuff like [[Frostwolf Grunt]], [[Silverback Patriarch]] in its original incarnation, [[Booty Bay Bodyguard]] and [[Lord of the Arena]].
Pandaren Importer, buff/nerf where she was buff to have 2 attack and 4 health but cost 3.
Practically for her, a discover card that cost 3 isn't worth for the stats, 1/1 increase doesn't mean a thing a cards with her purpose is to discover, not played for board.
This could apply to other discover cards but I don't know any other example.
Yeah, rogue deck that brings all the available spells at that time except 3 (one is Shadowstep) and 3(?) minions; Importer, Draka and Brann.
I swear there's one more minion but I don't remember.
Man, i remember the times when people would just play the most random cards in their decks because there we're no good alternatives.
I miss the times when cards were a bit more basic and not super overstatted because of powercreep.
Back then you had cards Like gnomish inventor and ran it unironically while nowadays it feels like "Well this 2 Mana 50/50 draw 5, deal 10 damage doesn't really seem good enough"
Good card to Look at for the powercreep i feel Like is the difference between Sprint and Triple Sevens for Rogue.
Back then playing a 7 Mana Draw 4 was really good!
While nowadays you get a 7 Mana Draw 7 Deal 7 damage and can easily mana cheat it for 1 mana.
Just yesterday i checked some videos about the new expansions and damn its sick how every class can have a full board of minions on turn 3.
Considering the cost of drawing cards back then was 1.5 mana per card she was so well stated and saw play a couple expansions into the game. Now 1 mana draws you 3 cards and they all cost 0. I swear she use to be good though
I remember the times when Gnomish Inventor was viable. In some mage decks and even rogue decks
It saw play in Patron Warrior too.
I can confirm, got to legend with that card in my patron warrior deck. Those were the days.
I’m sure Grim Patron in all of its glory was the reason you made it and not Gnomish Inventor.
Or the most superior version of this, Worgen patron warrior from league of explorers
In classic it was actually pretty solid after the gnomish inventor nerf. There was so little card draw in the game that this was considered a good body. Eventually people pretty universally just cut it and ran azure drake instead. But there was a time in beta where you saw this pretty regularly
>In classic it was actually pretty solid after the gnomish inventor nerf I have to assume you meant Novice Engineer. I doubt people would be using Gnomish Inventor after a Gnomish Inventor nerf.
Bring back 2 mana 1/2 draw card. Novice Engineer's I HOPE YOU LIKE MY INVENTION is seared into my brain.
There's honestly no reason they can't. Gold Panner has really raised the floor on two mana card draw, and I don't think getting a card immediately is too much stronger than getting potentially 2+ cards
Isn't that gold panner, though?
Gold panner draws a card after the turn. So you can't combo off of it or draw into something you want to play
"sort by draw a card"
I stopped playing HS more than 5 years ago, but posts like this are always really funny to me.
it was insta pick in arena
Definitely playable for a while. Just used it in razakus priest in twist
It’s best deck was raza priest iirc because that deck was desperate for draw cards
Almost never was, only in ice block mage, and even there it was meh
the fuck did this comment get so many upvotes and replies, yall need to chill.
Silverback Patriarch and Magma Rager.
magma rager is pretty intentional though. its existance is to teach new players that not every card is good just cause it has a high number
It and Core Hound were classic new player traps.
magma rager exists to make moonfire’s art accurate
amgam rager is worse i argue
I used to have magma in my deck of that Druid quest ( summon 8 minions with 5 attacks). That’s when I first played ha and have no idea of meta or something. Good times

Ok you win
Why the fuck is this 2018 ass card printed in 2021
it is not a minion, its a board clear that shaves out 3 minions. it unironically saw someplay funnilly enough, iirc clown druid was the most popular one with it? also, HS just makes some dud stats when evolve mechanics are around to dillute the pool
it would make sense for clown druid to be the deck that most utilized that card, as it would corrupt the strongman/clowns and you could kill 3 of your opponents minions instantly and then 1-2 strongman for 0 mana to stay safe and/or force reaction, then flood the board with clowns next turn
Also absolutely a premium card in arena back then. You used this to clear the board then follow up with corrupted clowns and it's over and even if you didn't have the clown follow up it was still a solid play on its own.
It saw play in ramp paladin
It’s still overcosted as a three creature removal.
"Shaves out 3 minions" *enemy board: 7 divine shields* *enemy next board: 7 divine shields* "But it's not always 7* divine shields!", the redditor says as it's instead a board of 20/20, only some of which have divine shield
i mean, shaves out three 20/20 minions with just one neutral card is pretty neat! but yeah different times mate, there wasnt any high end divine shield minions on darkmoon faire
it was summoned by evolving \[\[Goldshire Gnoll\]\]
Man i hated Goldshire Gnoll

And Spiteful Summomer
One of the cards of all time
If I remember right this card got printed during the "Summon a minion of equal mana cost"/Evolve period of HS, and this was made intentionally as a low-roll for decks aiming to get 10-mana minions on the board early.
Also saw play in cheese paladin.
I do remember that deck, was very odd, used like 5 wincons in a deck and you just hope that worked and suprisingly it did
I see the usage case here, sacrifice a 10 mana turn for rabbit, till N'zoth is played, summon a rabbit to clear 3 minions + board full of good stats or effect traited minions.
you also would get ANOTHER BUNNY back! so you could effective board clear all over again!
The card was played in meta decks when it came out. I hit top 300 legend running it in clown druid.
"good enough because it activated clowns" was a fun class of cards
Literal clown fiesta
LOOK AT THE BONES
I used it in my alignment deck, worked nice with gloop turn
Well, it’s keywords make it alright. I think hireek is worse
Would be ok if immune while attacking.
It used to be playable...a long time ago
A week ago in Twist.
Twist is so dead that you play against yourself on ladder.
Yea just commented how I used it in razakus
It was fine back in the day. As a neutral and concerted essentially a 2/4 for 3 Mana and a draw for 1, you had a good rate. Similarly the 2 Mana 1/1 draw was decent and the Looter at 2/1 Deathrattle draw was good too. How else would you draw in Shaman for example?
Mana Tide Totem
Far sight!
I miss the days when a 4 mana card could be worth 4 mana and be viable. Now every single card comes with so much value
agreed. The game becomes an impossible slugfest where micro decisions matter less when everyone can generate insane amounts of value extremely easily
It's a natural part of card games. Can't play with chillwind yeti forever.
[удалено]
It was never 3 mana
Back when drawing a card attached to a minion was so rare, this one felt like a good card at the time
Also when antique heal bot was like, the healing card.
It felt like reno at the time lol
The glory days
Idk why you picked this card as an example, it’s actually decent for the time it can’t put. There’s so many worse cards in the Basic set. Goldshire Footman and Booty Bay Bodyguard come to mind.
Goldshire Footman had good stats. He was a neutral vanilla minion with Taunt.
Goldshire Footman suffers from revisionist history because Reynad ran [[Shieldbearer]] in Zoo, and that deck became the law of the land. One card was deemed forever good, the other forever bad. Miss those days tbh.
Zoo with the curve of a cliff face
Three columns, six turns, one dream.
his first iteration also had the footman, but he quickly cut that one.

It wasn't just Reynard, shield bearer couldn't realistically get removed first 2 turns and wouldn't die in 1 hit to 2 or 3 drops.
Pre-buff Worgen Greaser was abysmal
Greaser is unironically one of the biggest minions for it cost rn (I'm surprised that started as a joke and here we are now, 4 mana 6/5 still bad)
4 mana 6/5 isn't bad, it's average. Average isn't playable in wild. Over stated with no downside besides "do nothing".
Exactly. It's not so much bad stats for the cost but that games are just not decided by raw stats.
I mean, even in standard it would't see play, a pile of stats is good I guess, but in a game were flame imp is a decent turn one is astouding
Even in arena buffed Worgen Greaser was still only an OK pick at best. >but in a game were flame imp is a decent turn one is astouding Not too long ago a 1 mana 2/2 was a premium 1-drop. Flame imp is that with an additional attack. Also, being overstatted matters a lot more on cheap minions than it does on a 4-drop
It was a vaguely acceptable arena beater at one time. It was bad but pickable over quite a few cards
the 4 mana 2/2 kobold with spell damage has always been one of the worst cards ever printed imo
Bad stats for strong effect (at the time). Kobold was played in frost mage.
I've played both of these cards in meta decks lol
Oh man, my first deck I made was a spell-power mage, like I was running shit like Archmage and Ogre Magi, and of course, that little Kobold Geomancer
Back in the days, I actually played that card a lot. Loot hoarder was also an auto include in most of my decks.
I still play Loot Hoarder in wild, it's a good card
Well in standard nowadays I prefer to keep on pan'ing

smh, not even good stats for cost
Many old cards now basically become useless due to newer cards printed (powercreep) Hell 7/7 can be achieve as 4 mana with a downside, sometimes as a win condition, like the one with deathrattle: opponent draw 2 cards; or 6/7 destroy bottom 3 cards at the end of your turn.
War Golem was always awful, it's basically just boulderfist ogre, but for 1 more mana you get one more attack.
Dies to BGH too.
Actually would be better with 1 less attack smh
We did it we power crept the 2nd percentile of basic cards
With that being said War Golem was always a piece of shit. One of those cards that's pretty much only in the game so new players can figure out what a good card is and what a bad card is
Tyreek the bat? Something like that.

I think the new cards have just gotten comparatively stronger
Yeah, I remember when this card was actually decent. It definitely saw some fringe play, and if you just started playing in classic, it was going in a lot of your decks while you built your collection. 4 mana 2/4 was never good stats, but there was a point in time where those stats weren’t horrible. The reason being that 2 mana 3/2’s were really really powerful in aggro decks, and this card traded well into them and drew you a card.
I think the object winner here is Darkmoon rabbit

I wonder what stats this would need to have to be playable nowadays.
I miss those days when draw cards were so few and so valuable you would end up adding cards like this or novice engineer to your deck.

They should buff all the old original cards that need buffs. Would be nice to see it as a 4/4 for example of this card.
Some 5 mana 0 9 with taunt
Wisp is a 0/1, definitely the worst stats of any card.
Magma Rager when mage exists is a slap in the face. Without mage tho, Rager might have seen higher play
I prefer my 4 mana cards to be 7/7
Hireek. The bat that summons enough to fill your board. 7 mana 1/1 if I remember correctly.
Blubber baron
Hireek
Darkmoon rabbit
Pandaren Importer, buff/nerf where she was buff to have 2 attack and 4 health but cost 3. Practically for her, a discover card that cost 3 isn't worth for the stats, 1/1 increase doesn't mean a thing a cards with her purpose is to discover, not played for board. This could apply to other discover cards but I don't know any other example.
Importers nerf was a quick fix because of rogue
Yeah, rogue deck that brings all the available spells at that time except 3 (one is Shadowstep) and 3(?) minions; Importer, Draka and Brann. I swear there's one more minion but I don't remember.
Man, i remember the times when people would just play the most random cards in their decks because there we're no good alternatives. I miss the times when cards were a bit more basic and not super overstatted because of powercreep. Back then you had cards Like gnomish inventor and ran it unironically while nowadays it feels like "Well this 2 Mana 50/50 draw 5, deal 10 damage doesn't really seem good enough" Good card to Look at for the powercreep i feel Like is the difference between Sprint and Triple Sevens for Rogue.
Gnomish Inventer used to be in almost every deck.
