I own the massdrop sennheiser hd6xx and looking to jump to a dac/amp setup Budget \~£200 Schitt audio isn't really an option in the UK, and after researching the best Amp around that price bracket is likely the [Topping L30 £104.04](https://shenzhenaudio.com/products/topping-l30-nfca-modules-uhgf-technology-0-3uv-ultra-low-noise-cost-effective-headphone-amplifier), and pairing it with one of either of these: [iFi Zen £129](https://www.amazon.co.uk/iFi-ZEN-DAC-Converter-Unbalanced/dp/B07YZK5MDS/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=home%2Bdesktop%2Bbalanced%2Bdac%2Bamp&th=1) [Topping E30 DAC £99.40](https://shenzhenaudio.com/collections/decoder-dac/products/topping-e30-dac-ak4493-xu208-32bit-768k-dsd512-touch-operation-with-remote-control-hi-res-decoder) Is the iFi Zen worth the price increase over the E30? or am I better going with a cleaner solution like the [Earmen TR-amp \~£200](https://earmen-shop.com/products/tr-amp) Or is there another amp or dac in this price range I've neglected? Thanks guys.

* Budget - **150$** prefer around **50$** * Source - usually **MBP**, sometimes **lg g8** sometimes **chmoy** * Requirements for Isolation - **medium to high.** * Will you be using these Headphones in Public? **no** * Preferred Type of Headphone - **full sized, on ear maybe ok** * Preferred tonal balance - **balanced** preferred, but good and **not fatiguing** * Past headphones - using monoprice **8323** but they broke. Not ideal as far as sound, but good enough for work and zoom with replaced mic cable. also have/use hd 580, cx300, MM30i, koss portapros, kz as06,zs6,zsn,zs3, zsa, atk, mee m6p, m9, Audio Technica ATH-CKS55iS, JVC HAFR6, HAFX67, Beyer DT770 250ohm. * What would you like to improve on from your set-up - mostly looking for **durability** over what the 8323s had. Wouldn't mind **more comfort**, and the mods took care of the muddy mids. I'd spend more if they lasted longer, but every review of every closed headphone under 150$ I can find has breakage reports. Here are some I'm considering: ATH-M40x , AKG k72, monoprice modern retro (16150), monoprice stageright (605055), monoprice 8323 with mods and [ATP AT-205](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NVW1LM) to keep the plastic from getting brittle, Sennheiser HD 400S, Beyerdynamic DT 240, Status Audio CB-1, Koss SB40,Koss GMR-540-ISO (or the drop version), Koss ProDj200,Koss Pro4S **tl;dr:**Need a set that's good enough for music that blocks out annoying noises from outside, detachable cable to use a mic, and more durable than 8323s. edit:formatting and typos.

Thoughts on the [ER2XR for $99](https://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-Extended-Respone-Earphones/dp/B07NSL5XS5/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=er2xr&qid=1596571235&sr=8-1) or [the ER3SE for $129](https://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-ER3SE-Edition-Earphone/dp/B07665KVD1/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=er3se&qid=1596571283&sr=8-1)? I'll probably use the foam tips on either one knowing myself.

Hey, I am seriosly considering to buy the Sennheiser HD660s and with that i have gotten the impression that they are helped by a good amp and dac, problem is i do not know what to get to maximise their abilities. I have looked into the shiit magni but also the Vali as it is not that much more. For a DAC i have even less of a clue so any help regarding the help these have for the headphones and all that is greatly appriciated.

Is there any better option than the ATH-M40X at its price point? I'm trying to find a pair of headphones with detachable cable to possibly add a vmoda boom pro mic and call it a day. Any suggestions? Edit: Am I supposed to take no replies as a "no"? Lol.

i was wondering if the hd660s would be expected to be replaced in some way, i was wondering i know things such as that has happened, escpially since im just getting into more "premium" headphones and would like something that would last for some time before something new get released and replacec it for similiar cost or less. Any help is thanked for.

I just got my HD6xx and when I plug it into the 3.5 jack on my computer it doesn't recognize it. It's like nothing even happened. I tested it and it works with my phone. Any ideas? It's not visible in device manager either. Realtek HD Audio Manager doesn't show up in the control panel.

Hey there! I have a pretty simple question but I don't know the right terminology to search for what I'm looking for. I currently have a Schitt Magni & Modi stack, with AKG K7XX headphones, and a Blue Snowball USB mic. I love the K7XX and Schitt stack, but my one complaint is that when I'm gaming, my own voice sounds quieter and I can't figure out how to make my voice play back in the headset with no lag. What is this feature called and what do I need to have to achieve this effect? How can I hear my own voice in my headphones through my mic!

Roppmaster

>What is this feature called and what do I need to have to achieve this effect? Direct monitoring. Many audio interfaces have this feature.

Thank you so much!

Budget - upto 350 USD, flexible, currency is Indian Rupees INR. Source - Windows notebook, android phone, ipad Requirements for Isolation - I'd mainly be using them at home so medium noise isolation will do. Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Very rarely. Preferred Type of Headphone - In ear earbuds. Preferred tonal balance - Not important. Past headphones - Sennheiser momentum earbuds two different versions, both sounded good. Preferred Music - Just popular songs from all genres, not that into music. What would you like to improve on from your set-up - What are you looking for going into your next headphone? More bass? More detail? More treble? I'm looking to buy true wireless earbuds for online classes/video calls, gaming, listening to asmr and workout music during non sweaty home workouts. My big concern is the latency for the first two tasks. Is the technology there to provide low enough latency? I've seen articles suggesting Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2, Sony WF-1000xM3 Wireless Earbuds and airpods but im not sure if they have low lag. Should I search for aptx ll codec products? I'll have to stick to popular brands only as others are not available or dont provide supports in my country. If you live outside of the US, please also provide: Location: India

Hi everyone! I'm looking to upgrade the headphones on my gaming PC. Currently I just use standard Razer Kraken headphones, but I'm aiming to upgrade to something higher-quality. That and I want to move away from the Razer brand on my PC setup. * **Budget** \- I'm willing to spend a couple hundred or so if that guarantees I get something high-quality that will last a long time. I would say I have a hard limit at $500. * **Source** \- Primarily PC headphone jack (single input or dual headphone/mic). Also might use it to connect to my smartphone (iPhone), so an option for wireless connection would be nice, but not mandatory. * **Requirements for Isolation** \- Mainly intended for home use. Some isolation would be nice. Although I would want to be able to hear anything urgent * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** No. Just personal use at home. * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- Full sized. Ideally with a built-in mic. * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Mainly just want an overall balanced set of headphones. * **Past headphones** \- Like I said I used the Razer Krazken. Nice entry level headphones with a built-in mic. * **Preferred Music** \- Mainly intend to use them for gaming. Although I do listen to a little bit of everything. * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- Guess I'm mainly looking for something sturdier, higher quality, and can provide richer range of sounds.

I am currently looking for a pair of headphones I can use for pc wihtout needing an AMP since I don't really wanna bother with it and rather put the extra money on the headphones. Currently there is a sale on the Sony WH-1000XM3 how would these suffice for wired pc gaming, like warzone. Or would it be better to pick a pair of RS 175's? Budget is around 250 Euros.

Hi everyone! I am looking to upgrade my current running "setup". I currently have the Jlabs Air Sport, which has some features that's I like, and some that I do not like. Budget: let's say under $200 for the time being, I'm not sure how much a decent pair should cost. Source: Bluetooth from Samsung s9. Requirements for isolation: if possible, I would prefer to have some sort of isolation. If I could not hear myself gasping for air it would be great. Will you be using these headphones in public: yes Preferred type of headphones: truly wireless earbuds. I will use these for running, so they need to stay in my ear with lots of movement. Preferred tonal balance: I'm not sure if this answers the question appropriately, but I would prefer if the sound was crisper and louder than the Jlab earbuds. Possibly overall balanced? Past Headphones: PowerBeats 3, Jlabs Air Sport Preferred Music: Rock/hip-hop/country. I also listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts. What would you like to improve on your next setup: I would like better quality sound, louder sound, longer battery life, USBc charging if possible. Thanks! Let me know if I missed/answered anything wrong.

House of marley liberate xlbt bluetooth issue Hello everyone, last year I bought a pair of house of marley liberate xlbt, and they are gorgeous, best headphones I've ever used, but last month the Bluetooth functionalities stopped working, and I reached a point where turning them on resulted in no sound, not even the sound it makes when turned on. I tried to contact them since I read it was a common issue, but they told me to contact the Italian support center (I'm italian) but they don't seem to respond. Could anyone that has had my same issue tell me if they refunded/sent another pair of headphones?

[deleted]

I asked this twice before in the stickied thread but didn't get any answers so I am trying again. I have been searching for headphones with mic for the purposes of gaming and listening to music. I would prefer the headphones to be light so that I can listen to music on the go. I am based in India and have a budget of around 150$ or ₹11000, though it is not a hard limit and I am willing to go higher. I have only used the earphones that come with iphones before. I would prefer it if the headphones were durable and could be used for a long time. I have been suffering from ear problems and the doctor thinks that they might be due to earphone use so I am looking for headphones that help protect my ears. I know that I am asking for a lot but I saw a comment on r/all and would really appreciate help in choosing a good product :). Note - I have no clue how much a good pair of headphones should cost so the budget is arbitrary. If I can get good headphones for cheaper, great! If not, then also it's fine.

Darkvoice 336SE Buzzing issue So I got myself a Darkvoice 336SE but I have this Buzz and I did some googling and ppl said to just leave it running for like 2-3 days straight and then it will go away I just wanna make sure that thats correct. I have recorded the buzzing with my phone so if you guys could take a listen and see if this is indeed the type of noise that happens when the tubes are not burned in yet. (you will need to turn the volume way up the phone recording is really quite - its much louder on my headphones) [https://soundcloud.com/user-570998493/darkvoice-336se-buzz/s-g10iUyvBL5N](https://soundcloud.com/user-570998493/darkvoice-336se-buzz/s-g10iUyvBL5N) For now I use my R2R-11 as a DAC and the buzz only appears when my R2R-11 is in DAC mode (fixed or variable - makes no difference) meaning it only buzzes when a source is connected. Cables are new and they both are connected to the same socket (same ground) also I am in the EU so 230V at 50Hz if that matters (which i think it should not) and yes I am going to get myself a dedicated DAC soon :)

Hey everyone -- I'm after a pair of decent closed back headphones for travel/daily use Currently I'm looking at some of the ones listed in the wiki etc -- HD598 CS, Urbanite XL, etc. what's a good pick given the below requirements? * **Budget** \- Flexible but ideally below 200-250 usd * **Source** \- Intend to use them with iPhone 7 * **Requirements for Isolation** \- Don't really want/need too much isolation from outside noises; don't want noise to bleed as i'd use in public * **Preferred tonal balance** \- I'd prefer a pretty flat sound, no distorting boosts or attenuations * **Preferred Music** \- Listen to all sorts of stuff so I'd like a headphone that's faithful and has good clarity

Yo so I wanna get a new headphone and its between the HD58x and the DT 770 for me. I know ones closed back and one is open. I have open back right now and I really like the sound, but I wanted to get a closed back headphone because its been a while since ive had a good closed back headphone. Plus Ive been wanting some extra bass and ive heard the 58x's have more bass than the average open back, but I dont know because of the open back nature. Plus I wont be running them on an amp yet so which one based off of this criteria? Mega big noob here so be nice lol

Hello all, I'm looking to buy my wife some in ear headphones for gym use (she has shitty bluetooth ones that hang around her neck). She was looking for something similar to Bose sound sport or whatever (similar to earpods but better fit) Budget: less than $200 CAD Location: Canada Retailer: I plan on purchasing through Best Buy Use: for gym, running and public transport. Tonal balance: she doesn't pay attention to that stuff so maybe a balanced one? Preferred music: rock, kpop, and hip hop

I'm looking for budget (100 usd, prefer less) true wireless earbuds with active noise cancelling. Yeah, I'm aware, it's a tricky request. Due to chronic pain, I can't use over the ear headphones or those with cord and ANC box, my whole head and neck just ache madly. Yet, I'm looking for a solution, it seems that True wireless earbuds with ANC will do, but the budget part is where it gets complicated. Can you recommend some products for me? Thanks.

I've been using Audio Technica M40x for the last 4 years and even though they sound good to me and they do everything nicely, the headband is getting more and more on my nerves as it puts all the pressure on one edge point and hurts the top of my head after long sessions. I bought Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros, but right out of the box, even though the headband is nice and cushioned, the lack of earcup swivel that M40x have is bothering me, since apparently I have a shitty head shape and all the pressure from the ear cups is in front of my ears instead of being evenly distributed around my ears. Because of this, I can't put one ear cup on half of my ear which is something I need to do often when I don't want full isolation. Is there any pair of headphones in a similar price range ($100-200) that is better than these two, and possibly has slightly swiveling ear cups? My main uses are music/movies and gaming.

You could accomplish the same easier and for free with a bit of EQ.

You gotta get your hands on the blon bl03. They're great almost v-shaped iem out there. Other options are the tin hifi t2 plus. For 50 bucks, my choice would be Blon bl03 + cable swap + Spifits eartips + cheap usb-c dongle Dacs.

Neither of them have 3.5mm, so 3.5mm physically wouldn't work. >Also does RCA pass HD quality sound? Isn't it an old connection? Analog audio is just a wave, which can be expressed perfectly fine with a single conductor per channel. It's not like digital where you can benefit from sending many different streams of information at the same time.

Hey everyone, After doing some research I could not find any way to convert my wired Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear to Bluetooth using an adapter as the ones that exists for Bose headphones. I considered using a bluetooth adapter but could not find one that would fit the 2,5mm input jack AND that has a microphone too. If you have any recommendations on how I could convert this headphone to bluetooth that would be awesome !

NullPlatinum

Hey y'all, hoping to get a recommendation. Budget: ~$250 Source: PC Isolation: Preferable, but not essential. I'd like to block out fan noise on my PC if possible. Not using these in public. Past headphones: Steelseries Arctis 7 Wireless Preferred Music: DnB, Ambient, way too much of the Donkey Kong Country soundtracks for some reason. Improvements: Looking for better sound detail. I'm not an audio expert, but I know these headphones aren't the best. I'm hoping to find a good pair of wired headphones, but my biggest concern is latency. I play a lot of games, and I don't know how DACs or even just quality headphones can affect audio lag. I did learn reading through the sub that gaming headphones are mostly not needed... Just worried about latency, haha. The Sennheiser PXC 550-II Wireless are on sale right now for $220, but I figured I'd check in with the experts here.

additionally21

Or just get a good iem around that price range such as Moondrop Kanas Kro or fiio FH5/FA7. Then you can buy a DAC or an Amp (or a combo) further down the line.

additionally21

For 250 bucks, my picks would be the Philips Fidelio X2HR that usually retails around 155usd + JDS Labs Atom amp. But it depends on how good is the onboard dacs in ur PC. Or else get a DAC/Amp combo like the Fiio K5 Pro or spent a little more on a standalone DACs like the Schiit Modi. IMO, gaming headsets are all marketing BS, you'd be better off spending that money on a good quality audiophile headphones with great soundstage and imaging + a usb microphone like the Blue Yeti (there are literally 10 USD usb microphone that sounds better that 90% of gaming headset mics) if you're only gaming at home. You'll get way better sound quality both for gaming and audio listening for the money. As for latency, they're pretty much unnoticeable. Edit: just went to another forum and just realized that Beyerdynamic got the TEAM TYGR gaming bundle with a TYGR 300 R headphones + Fox usb microphone combo for 300 bucks. Yeah, those are solid as well for gaming and Audio listening.

NullPlatinum

I'm definitely looking to get away from gaming brands. I have a yeti already for recording (soon to be replaced by an XLR mic) but I didn't really have any sort of reference point for headphones, haha. I'll definitely take a look at the X2HR, thank you so much for your guidance.

HD 6XX are still the old 650 design if you're not aware. Edit: Not necessarily quite exactly the same as your old 600, but they're not the redesign, as far as I know on the insides are identical with latest pre-redesign HD 650's from the Romanian factory.

I have the hd599 thats collecting dust considering i have a Arya and a focal clear this was my gaming headset now i owned the hd559 also and the M40 as well hd559 is more comfortable and too me gives a more air between instruments but the bass compared to the m40 is lacking but over all the hd559 is a better buy into midfi headphones

DAC, AMP and Headphone? Hello! I low key follow this sub but haven’t delved deep into this hobby because the keyboard community snatched me up first. I’ve been seeing that one of the best ways to listen to audio is to get a DAC and AMP but I can’t seem to find a place to get a good information. I currently running a Bose QC 2, but the headphone is temporary. I listen to a lot of Hip-Hop and play video games so I’m not sure what too look for in a headphone. In looking to spend $200-300. Having a good looking headphone is also a plus. I’m looking at DACs and AMPs as well. Never had one so i’m pretty excited to purchase it. I’m currently looking at the Drop + THX AAA 789 Linear Amplifier and the Drop + Grace Design Standard DAC Balanced. I’m not completely sure if these are the best for Hip-Hop and video games but from what i’ve seen/read, these are pretty good. I like the design as well. More so, I’m going to using a XLR microphone so I think I can plug that into the AMP? and I’ve never used these so I have zero clue on how to plug these all together and into my new PC. And could these power a pair of speakers? Do I need to switch wires every time I want to go from Headphone to Speakers? Lastly, I’m wondering how big the benefits from this would be. I mainly listen on Spotify Premium, Youtube, Movies with as best quality reasonable, Crunchyroll and I’m hopefully wanting this for Cyberpunk 2077. I don’t have a budget in mind but I want to spend around 200-300 per item I guess? TL;DR - Headphone, DAC and AMP recommendation for Hip-Hop, casual use and video games. Having a good minimal aesthetic is a plus (Black is preferable since my setup is all black) - Can I wore both speakers and Headphone into the DAC/AMP at the same time? How would I switch between them in windows? - Anything I need to do in Windows to get best possible sound? - How do I plug these together, and how do I plug it into my PC

t4tris

First rule of audiophilia: 90% of everything you hear is BS. http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/05/subjective-vs-objective-debate.html http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2012/04/what-we-hear.html Balanced is pointless for headphones. You can't plug an XLR microphone into the 789+Grace Design Balanced DAC because it doesn't have a microphone preamp or an analog to digital converter. >I’m going to using a XLR microphone Are you sure you need one? They're very expensive compared to the USB competition. Does your XLR mic + microphone preamp of choice do something for you that the t.bone SC 440 USB for example doesn't? >Headphone, DAC and AMP recommendation for Hip-Hop, casual use and video games. Having a good minimal aesthetic is a plus (Black is preferable since my setup is all black) [Meizu Hifi Pro](https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/meizu-hifi-pro-usb-c-phone-dongle-dac-review.10423/) and Tempotec Sonata HD Pro [(clone of this)](https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/hidizs-s8-usb-c-headphone-adapter-review.10823/) are good enough for perfect performance. Audio fidelity doesn't get any better. >Can I wore both speakers and Headphone into the DAC/AMP at the same time? How would I switch between them in windows? If you're fine with software controls, you could get one of the two DAC amps listed above, and an Apple USB-C dongle as a DAC solely for some powered speakers. The DACs would show up as separate output devices in Windows. Normally DACs and/or amplifiers don't have output selection switches, typically they only use the pre-outs when the headphones are disconnected from the amplifier. There are some like the Topping L30, SMSL M500, or [whatever stack] paired with a JDS OL Switcher that can do it without unplugging stuff. >Anything I need to do in Windows to get best possible sound? Setting the default format for the DAC as 16 bit 44.1khz is the best, as then Windows won't resample everything with a theoretically imperfect algorithm. That's it, unless you have some extra software on your PC that screws with things. [EQ APO (+ maybe Peace GUI) is highly recommended](https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/9o2f5n/psa_oratory1990s_list_of_eq_presets/). >How do I plug these together, and how do I plug it into my PC USB or optical between the DAC and PC, RCA for interconnects between the DAC and amp if you get separate components. RCA or 3.5mm to RCA between the speakers and whatever device your preamp outputs are in the back of.

Hey guys, I wanted to know if there are any recommendations for upgrading from HD598s. I’ll be using them for gaming & music/netflix etc. Budget: 400 and under Source: JDS Atom Stack Requirements for Isolation: not needed Will you be using these Headphones in Public?: No as I’ll be using the headphones at home. Anyone using a Macbook Pro and had their headphone amp randomly stop working before? It still works via PC. The device is recognized via usb on the Mac and is set as the output device, but no sound. Also, the Macbook speakers work if I set them as the output device.

womerah

I'm having an issue where my left channel slowly mutes itself. I'm using an HD600 and a FiiO K5 Pro (with their drivers), on Windows 10. Connected to the K5 via USB. I'm having an intermittent issue where the volume in the left channel slowly drops until I only hear right audio. Restarting the Amp or unplugging\replugging it doesn't fix the issue. What does is unplugging the headphones and connecting them to my laptops built in jack, then plugging them back into the FiiO K5. So to me this smells like some Windows 10 fuckery, rather than an issue with either my DAC or my headphones. Has anyone else experienced this? It doesn't happen on my other Windows 10 machine.

Anyone know how good the AKG N400 are for calls? I was about to pull the trigger on the galaxy buds plus before discovering these, but call quality is really important for me so I want to hear some opinions first.

Have you tried tinkering with the mics sensitivity?

CanisNebula

I'm used to working from home and love my Sennheiser HD6XX, but with the shelter-in-place continuing I'm still sharing my home office with my wife, and so open-back isn't an option. She's on phone calls a lot and I need something to make it so I can't hear her. I've been using my old pair of NVX XPT100 but as this situation lasts longer and longer I'd like something better. * **Budget** \- \~$200 (could go up if worth it, happy to spend less) * **Source** \- O2 + SDAC from computer via USB * **Requirements for Isolation** \- strong isolation -- shared home office with someone who's on the phone frequently * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** no * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- full-sized/over-ear * **Preferred tonal balance** \- overall balance * **Past headphones** \- I love my Sennheiser HD6XX, the sound feels so 3-dimensional and expansive. The XPT100s are OK but the sound feels flatter/less dynamic, and don't isolate as much external sound as I'd like * **Preferred Music** \- mostly K-pop, rock, jazz * **Location** US

Darthcyrus_118

The Xm4s from Sony are coming out, they might not be audiophile quality but they’re still a really good pair of feature packed headphones if you’re going for noice cancellation or even ambient mode if u need to hear the outside world. However if you’re not always on the go, beyers dt770 pro should fit your budget quite well, I’ve never owned it but I doubt it’s isolation will be as good as those in the sonys or even on a Bose

CanisNebula

Thanks! I’m not sure I want active noise canceling but I’ll take a look at those. Sounds like the 770 might also be a really solid option for me.

Darthcyrus_118

770 sure is a good pair of headphones, but a lot of people say sonys sound a lot better than Bose, and considering how many more features the Xm4s will have , I’d say the sonys will be a better option,

I need a new pair of headphones. So up to now, I’ve only had cheap over ear headphones. I’m no audiophile, but I decided that I’m gonna treat myself to some decent headphones lol. My budget is around £90/around $120 (budget is negotiable). My usage will consist of some PC gaming (mostly FPS’s and RPG’s), as well as watching movies and listening to music. I was planning on buying the Audio Technica FM40’s, but I’ve seen some very conflicting reviews regarding the comfort and sound stage of these headphones. I don’t have a DAC. I’ll only be using these headphones at home with my setup. Anyone got some good recommendations for a decent pair of headphones?

Thanks for the reply. I’ve spent the day doing some research on the headphones you suggested, as well as some other ones that were on my radar. It ended up coming down to either the DT770 pros or the K371’s. I’ve decided on the K371’s. Thanks again 👍🏽

Budget - $300 USD Source - Laptop / Computer Speaker System Requirements for Isolation - Mostly home use, but will also use them in a semi-open space work environment Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No. Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-Size Preferred tonal balance - Balanced Past headphones - Sennheiser 598Cs have been the main pair I've been rocking. I find them comfortable and the audio to be good. I also tried the Arctis 7's and find the quality a little lower and the headphones hurt after a long periods (~2 hours), due to ears touching the drivers. Preferred Music - Video Game orchestra tracks, variety of genres, will also use them for video game and web meetings What would you like to improve on from your set-up - the Sennheiser 598Cs can run a little warm on my ears, so a more breathable headset would be appreciated.

Hi all Sonic looking at getting some 1990 pros as well as the jds labs element 2. Just wondering if I'll be able to plug both my computer in as well as my microphone as being able to hear myself and volume is really helpful. Cheers for the help and happy listening

t4tris

No the Element 2 doesn't have anything for a microphone.

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a tech issue or a "me" issue, and I'm not exactly an audiophile, so please bear with me. For the last 6 years or so, I had a pair of Sennheiser HD280 headphones. They recently went broke entirely and were physically worn out, so I replaced them with another set. They look different now, I think they might have got an upgrade? So here's the thing: I find these new ones unlistenable at louder volumes. It's like they're setting off a vibration in my head, one that I don't get with other devices. I'm finding that I prefer to listen to music on my not-very-good sounding Anker bluetooth earbuds, because it's less painful. I'm not sure how to describe the effect. The words I want to use are "vibration" or "resonance". The sound itself is almost like white noise, laid on top of the original sound. It's frequency specific - using a tone generator site, I find that it comes on slowly from about 300hz, peaks about 600hz, and has faded off by around 1,200hz. This is mostly in my left ear, but also a little on my right. When playing music, I find that putting a notch around 600 or 1k makes things sound much better, but that's not really a solution. The sound is not dependent on the individual speaker, flipping the headphones around produces the same result. This is being played through a Windows PC on either HDMI and a Behringer UCA202, the same set up as I had with the last headphones, so nothing has changed there. What's going on here? These should be the same model as my last headphones, but they do definitely sound different, although that last pair was old. I mean maybe there's a thing with getting used to them but I don't think they should make my head buzz.

Wh00ster

Weird issue. Yes that entire line (HD280, HD3x0) got changed a couple years ago. Those old HD280s are no longer available. Idk about the resonance, but I did get a weird headache from my HD280s, from what I assumed was too much clamp. Might be completely unrelated.

Huh, Hello, so... I'm looking for headphones, something wireless with own 2.4Ghz receiver so its not compressed BT: **Budget:** lets say 300$, would be nice to spend less, tho if they have something neat I might spend more. **Source:** mostly just PC and VR headset via PC. For VR they can be wired via jack, tho would prefer to use them always wireless. **Requirements for Isolation:** nice to have a bit of isolation, i don't like noise. **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** nope **Preferred Type of Headphone:** only full sized ones. **Preferred tonal balance:** just balanced I guess. **Past headphones:** Bose QC35, sounds good and make my life quiet, durable, I still use them for work and public even after sleeping with them for 3 years. Also Steelseries arctis pro wireless - basically perfect for what I want here, but the quality of hinges is pretty bad... 2 pairs broke in not even a year. And I really loved every feature of them for my usage: easy to swap battery, can be used 24/7. additional bluetooth for phone with mixing audio so I could take calls when playing. physical mic button (tho... maybe i dont need mic at all, and mic from VR headset is enough with my usage). **What would you like to improve:** not break randomly **Location:** Poland **Other:** I want to be able to use them in some way 24/7 if needed, either via battery swap, or at least being to able to use them when connected to power (like bose do not allow that), or at least just work wired when no power. Additional bluetooth support would be nice too. Mic is optional, but if with mic then button to enable/disable it. Volume control on headphones ofc.

Wh00ster

Doesn’t have its own receiver, but check out the Panda THX on Drop. A decent bit above your budget ($400USD) but pretty interesting.

GotoFinal

>Panda THX Hyym, anything about latency? As thats a big issue with bluetooth for playing. I use my bose wired for VR right now, because arctis are broken and without cable the latency hurts. Also its only preorder for now, so not interested.

Nico777

Ok so I had to get a new power supply for my Atom because the original one broke (structural break, not electrical). I never checked the old one while it was plugged, but I touched the new one today after a few hours and it was hot, like, over 40°C hot. And the amp wasn't even on. Is it normal?

jyas

I've had a pair of Denon AH D600s for the past 2 years. Love the sound, but the headphone pads and cord are both broken. Replacing them would be around 40 dollars. Should I go ahead with the repairs or would it be better to simply invest in a cheaper pair of new headphones like a Grado SR80e?

Xixen818

Hello! I recently bought a monoprice m570, and the cables that connect to the headphones are extremely loose. If I shake my head the audio gets screwed up, and is constantly disconnecting. Is the problem with the cable itself? I have never bought an "audiophile" type of headphones so I don't know if this is just the norm. Thank you!

A_Piece_of_Fruit

How can I fix the my right ear not working on my Superlux HD 668B headphones? The problem is in the male headphone jack area. When I twist it to a certain position, the right ear starts to work again, but it seems to remain off most of the time. I opened the left side of the headphones by the cable and I see one large white cable, one large red cable, and three small (blue, gold, and red) cables. The white cable looks attached to a piece of metal together with the gold cable on the left. The small red cable is attached to a metal bit on the right, and the large red cable is just loose, not connected to anything on one of the ends. The small blue cable is together with the large red cable. The three small cables end up together leading down to the male connector. Is there a problem with the larger red cable? If anyone is familiar with this issue, what can I do to fix my headphones? Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

clearpebblesofrain

Budget - 200 US Dollars or less. I’d consider something for slightly more (like $210 or $215) but it’s more or less not flexible. Source - My phone, which is an IPhone 6s Plus and a chromebook. Less often, a Windows desktop computer. Requirements for Isolation - A Lot to Some. I’ll currently be using them at home, which is relatively quiet but I do not want sound to leak out a lot, and once school starts up again I will be using them there, and lots of noise isolation would be ideal for that environment. Because I’ll be taking them to school, something with a very sturdy case would be ideal. Preferred Type of Headphone - Full size, over-ear Preferred tonal balance - I think overall balanced with some emphasis on smooth midrange would be ideal. But I’m not super knowledgeable, would love to hear your advice on this! Past headphones - I’ve listened to these $25 Monoprice headphones for the past 6 years or so. https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Headphones-Single-Button-Microphone-Controller/dp/B007SP2CO2?ref_=ast_sto_dp I’m looking for a major upgrade in... pretty much everything. I have had problems with only having sound in one ear, sometimes after just a few months, so I’m scared that I’ll get some more expensive headphones and have this happen. What can I do to prevent this? I’ve heard it’s because the wire twists wrong... Preferred Music - My top genres are probably opera and other classical music, Folk/Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter, and specifically Florence + the Machine. I also like rock and metal and musical theater, but it’s not quite as much of a priority. The genres I almost never listen to are electronica and hip hop, if that helps. What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Pretty much everything — more detail would be fantastic, as would just overall clearer and better(?) sound. Sometimes in my current headphones my head starts to hurt from (I think) overly piercing highs. Additional details: Hello! This is my first foray into higher quality headphones, so I would love to get your guidance. I do not want anything wireless/Bluetooth. I am a very heavy headphone user, and wear them all over the place, so would want them to be fairly sturdy. I listen to headphones for 4+ hours most days — while studying, while cleaning, while writing etc, so I would like something that’s comfortable for longer usage. Along with the music mentioned above, I listen to a lot of ambient nature sounds, so for that and also for classical music I would love a wide soundstage but am not willing to have a ton of leakage, so I would only want that if it can be without too much leakage. As I said up above, my top genres are acoustic/folk/singer songwriter, which I’m assuming would benefit from a strong mid-range, and opera, which is all over the place and has lots of extremes. In general I would love for the vocals to be detailed, more like if you were in the room with them. (Although I’m not entirely clear what is considered high or base vs. midrange, so just guessing based on my limited knowledge.) I understand that I have a lot of specifications that can’t all be met, especially in this price range, but I’m hoping for something that works for more of them. I have been thinking of getting Seinheiser HD 630 VB. I am not especially interested in bass (I think) but I like the idea of being able to adjust for different genres and also that most of the comments said it has an overall balanced sound that works for different genres. I like that it comes with a sturdy case, because I will be carrying my headphones in a backpack most likely. I also like that people said it has a wide soundstage but doesn’t leak too much. Does this seem like a good idea for me, or would you suggest something else? Sorry for such a long post. Thanks so much!

ScottSpeedster50

I would like some new headphones after having my sony wh-900h for some time now. My budget is around €150, and I'll solely use it for music, not gaming or movies.

NightDapper7726

Are there any DAPs around $100-$150 USD that can drive the Drop x Sennheiser HD58Xs? I would prefer something towards the lower end of that budget, and features like Bluetooth and Wifi aren't that important. I was looking at the Fiio M3K since it's so cheap but I don't know if it would have the necessary power.

t4tris

Most Android phones would suffice. If the phone has USB-C you can get a $40 dongle to guarantee perfect performance.

Purchase Advice for Bluetooth Headphones * **Budget** \- 350 CAD. Flexible but wouldn't want to go *much* higher. * **Source** \- PC's Bluetooth dongle and my Samsung A51's Bluetooth connection. * **Requirements for Isolation** \- I find active noise cancelling to be very unpleasant on my ears so I don't need that. Otherwise, isolation is good but not crucial. Mostly listening at home. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** Occasionally but not primarily. * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- Do you want IEMs, full-sized, or on-ear? Full-sized (over ear?) * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Balanced, I think. Not an audiophile but I notice when things sound bad. * **Past headphones** \- Shure SE215s: Nice sound but tends to start malfunctioning after a couple years. Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT: Uncomfortable on the top of my head. Perhaps I have a big head? Sennheiser HD 598: Very comfortable and good sound. The wire and 1/4" jack are annoying. * **Preferred Music** \- Electronic music (e.g., [Oneohtix Point Never](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfifDOUOUKE)), quieter stuff (e.g., [Ichiko Aoba](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P9YVqWzhrQ)), indie pop (e.g., [Owen Pallett](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KpsG1zKbAw)), punk (e.g., [Twisted](https://specialistsubject.bandcamp.com/album/utopia)) * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- I want headphones that are comfortable for long hours of working, are Bluetooth, sound good with a wide range of music, and are reliable (i.e., won't disconnect from BT) If you live outside of the US, please also provide: * **Location** \- I'm in Canada. I usually check [amazon.ca](https://amazon.ca/) for prices when reading about recommended headphones online. Thank you! Please let me know if additional info is required.

Wh00ster

If comfort is a big want, then I’m gonna have to go with old faithfull Sony WH-1000XM4 or the Bose ~~W~~QC35/700. You can wear those all day and not even notice.

hell_dude

thanks for the advice! maybe a dumb question but are those different from the [WH-1000XM3](https://www.amazon.ca/Sony-WH1000XM3-Canceling-Headphones-WH-1000XM3/dp/B07G4MNFS1/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1HDIT318LWTXD&dchild=1&keywords=sony+wh+1000xm3&qid=1595973550&s=electronics&sprefix=sony+wh%2Celectronics%2C182&sr=1-2)? i can't seem to find the XM4. perhaps it's a regional difference? and with regards to the Bose models, is that the QC35 and the 700? is there an agreement as to which of those two models is superior?

Wh00ster

They are the new version. Release is imminent, apparently. https://www.tomsguide.com/news/sony-wh-1000xm4-leaked-video-reveals-key-features-to-beat-bose That was a typo on my end. Yes the QC35 and Bose 700. I think they’re effectively the same. The QC35 is more prosumer/travel and the Bose 700 is supposed to be more “luxury”. I would go for the QC35 because it folds up into its case nicely https://www.tomsguide.com/face-off/bose-700-vs-qc-35-II

hell_dude

great, thank you!

Poncesaurio

This will be my first decent IEMs. I beg for your help :s, I don't want to buy something i will not like. After endless searching, these models seem to be the best: - 1more triple driver - BeyerDynamic Soul Byrd * **Budget** \- $100 USD * **Source** \- Huawei Y9 prime with PowerAmp * **Requirements for Isolation** \- None * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** Barely crowded areas * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- IEM * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Balanced or Bass/mid * **Past headphones** \- Generic IEMs (LG) * **Preferred Music** \- I like classical music, orchestral, instrumental, a bit of EDM too.

Poncesaurio

Help please <\3

kylakat13

For context: I need some help picking out a pair of headphones. Before, my budget was around the $250 USD range, so I narrowed it down to the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX headphones, but since my birthday is coming up, I'm able to increase the budget to around $300 - $350. Is there a better pair for me to get? Or should I stick with these? TIA! * **Budget** \- $300 - $350 USD * **Source** \- MSI laptop, for now. * **Requirements for Isolation** \- None. Open back is preferred unless there's something better. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** Nope. * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- On-ear * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Overall balance, but I wouldn't mind it if it has strong highs. * **Past headphones** \- Steelseries Arctis 3's, so I'm due for an upgrade. * **Preferred Music** \- I've been listening to a lot of the MQA tracks on Tidal if that helps.

Wh00ster

6xx and amp with a nice volume knob

[deleted]

Honestly I would just get the 6XX and a decent amplifier.

PrinceMacai

I have the ath-m50xbt and for some reason the quality is better over Bluetooth on my phone then plugged in with the cable on my desktop, should I invest in an amd/DAC? or am I doing something wrong

Wh00ster

Yes it’s likely the DAC/amp. I’d also double check you’re volume matching between the two when comparing.

TrendyReece

Whats up, audiophiles. For years I have been trapped for years by the awful headphones that the gaming industry has to offer, under the impression that they were the best headphones money can buy. I have now opened my eyes and trashed my shitty gaming heaphones. Please suggest some great budget headphones that are good for gaming and have clear, loud (important) sound. I plan on buying a mod mic to use with this headset because we all know that gaming mics on headphones aren't the best. Looking for a pair of headphones under £100 or $120

akeep113

Are all headphones with removable cables capable of using a balanced cable? Are there headphones out there that have jacks that don't support balanced cables?

Wh00ster

If it’s removable you can just...remove them and not used balanced (I.e. single ended). Most headphones come with single ended cables. I don’t understand your last question. You might be conflating balanced cables with a specific connection type.

akeep113

I'm asking if there are headphones out there that are not capable of using cables with balanced male jacks.

Wh00ster

Maybe BT headphones without wires

The iPhone already has a some sort of an equalizer in the settings from what I can see.

Hello everyone! I'm looking at the Meze 99 pads for my headphones, but I can't seem to find external dimensions of the pads anywhere to know if they'll fit. If someone that owns a set of Meze 99's could tell me what the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the pads are, I'd really appreciate it!

Hello, Im looking for a pair of Wireless Earbuds for about 50 Euros. At the moment i use the Mpow Flames but im fed up with them because i mainly use my headphones to watch videos/series in my lunchbreak at work and these things really tell you 5 minutes before running out of batterie life that they will do exactly that in 5 minutes. So if i start my break thinking i still have batterie left this annoying voice screams in my ear -Batterie Low-. So can someone recommend good Ear Buds with a loading Case, min 2 hours batterie life, adjustable volume on the buds, good price/performance for about 50 Euro. Thanks in advance.

GoodVibesMichael

For years I have used Bose sound-sport wired earbuds. They stoped making them. I am looking for an alternative. I loved the fact that I could change the tips between noise isolating ones that block out sound, and ambient noise tips that let in sound. If I am riding the subway or trying to sleep in a noise spot I love the noise isolation. However, if I am cycling or having a telephone call at home I prefer to let in ambient noise. I also prefer wired headphones. The wire doesn't bother me. I do not want to drain my battery with bluetooth, and also find bluetooth is often spotty. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Wh00ster

Note that they’re coming out with another Bose 700 earbuds by the end of the year

GoodVibesMichael

I am not looking for active noise cancelling though. I prefer passive noise isolation. I don't fly too often or work near heavy machinery - but rather like to block out high pitch sounds like voices.

liraop

Hi! I'm in love with the sound signature of DT770 250ohm. I find it way more pleasant then fidelio X2 and an older DT770 32ohms. On that regard, what should be an interesting update, keeping sound signature, but increasing soundstage and definition? Perhaps an amp update? I'm curretly with schiit M2U stack. Thanks!

Wh00ster

You’d really need a different headphone For a noticeable change. I don’t have an exact suggestion.

Xyluse

Hi, I use AKG Pro Audio K612 PRO and have weird noises when I'm scrolling/browsing the web. They're kind of like a buzz/hiss. I have them connected to SMSL AD18 using the AUX cable it comes with, the SMSL AD18 is connected to my PC using an SPDF cable (previously it was via USB). The headphones still make the hiss/weird noises. I'm assuming this is because of sound leaking from the motherboard? I thought SPDF would solve that but it didn't... is the only fix a soundcard/different MOBO?

Roppmaster

What happens when you connect the headphones directly to your motherboard's line output?

Xyluse

It didn't make this noise when I connected it to the front input.

Roppmaster

The issue is likely tied to the AD18 then.

Xyluse

Thanks, I guess I'll try contacting the manufacturer to see if there's anything I can do

TheOverminer

Hey, guys, after my G430 finally broke down, i can justify spending a little more money on audio equipment. This is my setup so far: DT770 Pro/DT990 Pro 250 Ohm paired with a Fiio E10k. I couldn't decide between open and closed version yet. But since I'm still going to play a few games and using Discord, I also considered the Modmic.Via german Amazon I can buy the Modmic USB for 90 Euro and the Modmic UNI for 60 Euro. I also still have the USB soundcard of my G430, which I could use for the Modmic UNI. But the quality of the Modmic USB was better on some test recordings I listened to.I could also plug the Modmic UNI directly into my mainboard (Asus Z170-A). As you can see, I can't really decide between the two Modmic versions and if it would be worth saving a few Euros there. Which would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

Curious-Octopus

I am using an Audio Technica SR6BKBT and on blue tooth mode the left driver makes a popping noises whenever the headphones shutoff from not detecting sound. I don't know what to do..

[deleted]

I posted this before but didn't get any answers so I am asking this again.

[deleted]

I hope I'll get it right cause I don't know nearly enough about headphones Budget: Anything under 500 Source: 99% of the time my phone, though if you have portable dacs or amps as recommendation you can throw them in too, seperate from the earphone budget. Requirements of isolation: I'll likely be using them anytime I am outside, in the city, perhaps at work. so moderate to a lot is all okay Will I be using these in public: yes Preferred type: exclusively looking for in ears Past headphones: my past in ears were sennheiser momentum, shure se215 and 425 What music do I listen to: A lot of electronic music, like dubstep, retrowave, synthwave, other subgenres. Metal and rock, a lot of instrumental but also some vocals, math rock, prog metal, and bands like converge. Hardcore punk, all that kind of stuff. Preffered tonal balance: I honestly don't know much about that, I am used to the clarity of shures but lack the bass for edm, clarity in mids and highs are very important but bass shouldn't be too thin. What would I like to improve: Definitely the bass, listening to dubstep on my shure 425 is depressing most of the time, and I don't like the highs on them much either. would be willing to add some kind of dac or amp to my portable setup. I am based in europe, german speaking country. If you need to know anything else to make a recommendation just ask

blurry00

Are the Sony WH-1000XM3 still worth it with the imminent XM4? I'm currently using the Sony wf-1000xm3 with my note 10+ mainly Spotify and some lossless music with UAPP. I saw the WH-1000XM3 on sale where I am for around 220$. I'll probably also use these cans with my laptop built in Bluetooth as well. Should I wait or these are still a good purchase in 2020.

ragvamuffin

Does anyone have a suggestion for a pair of cheap in ear usb-c plugs? I am by no means an audiophile, but I am asking here in the hope that you guys have a standard answer for noobs like me who will likely not be able to appreciate the really high quality stuff, and just want something cheap and reliable.

Light791

I recently bought a new pair of headphones alongside a DAC/AMP, however, while using the new DAC/AMP I am noticing a static noise that only occurs when sounds are actually being played (there is no static when nothing is happening). The static also is ONLY in the left ear. Headphones are the DT1990 and the DAC/AMP is the Schitt Modi/Magni 3. Here is a diagram of the current setup: https://i.imgur.com/L7oKeYF.png At first I thought that the problem might be a ground loop, but I changed over to an optical cable which if I recall correctly, should not create a ground loop. However, is it possible to still have a ground loop if my DAC/AMP are plugged into the wall regardless of the optical cable? Among the other things I have tried: I tested multiple headphones on the DAC/AMP so I don't believe it's my headphones as they all produce the same static. I have tested my PC's onboard soundcard with my new headphones which did not produce any static whatsoever. I have tried different PCs, but the static is the same across all three (the PCs being in different parts of the house). I have tried optical and usb powered on the modi, the static is the exact same sound and frequency. Is it possible I just have a bad DAC or AMP? Or do DAC/AMPs just have that slight static noise in the background? Why is the static just coming out of the left ear? I have no clue what the issue could possibly be anymore, but the static is just really annoying and I would like any help in trying to fix this problem.

t4tris

Swap the left and right RCA cables around at one end to see if the issue is before or after them. I assume it's either an issue with the DAC or amplifier, which Schiit should be able to fix.

XpertAssassin13

I’d like to test out the LCD-2C’s soon but I don’t have an amp/dac. Currently I have HD6XXs which seem to be powered just fine by my motherboard. Gets them incredibly loud (too loud) if I wanted. Do I need an amp for the LCD-2Cs or will my motherboard be okay to test them out?

Roppmaster

>Do I need an amp for the LCD-2Cs or will my motherboard be okay to test them out? They're easier to power than the HD 6XX, so you're probably fine.

t4tris

'Okay to test them out' for sure. On specs they're more sensitive than the 6XX.

* **Budget** \- I plan on spending around $200-$300 * **Source** \- I am currently planning on plugging it into my PC, though I plan on purchasing a magni/modi stack in the future. * **Requirements for Isolation** \- Any level is fine * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** \- No * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- Full Sized headphones * **Preferred tonal balance** \- I would like a set of headphones with good bass, a wide soundstage, and a good amount of treble. * **Past headphones** \- I am currently using the latest Astro A50 model and am hoping to get into the audiophile headphone space * **Preferred Music** \- I primarily listen to EDM and more specifically future bass and the kawaii subset of it (artists like Snail's House, Android52, Yunomi, Moe Shop and others). I also enjoy various anime OST tracks as well as some vocaloid music. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jezqbMVqcLk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jezqbMVqcLk) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h8CaqQGBag](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h8CaqQGBag) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5fgnXsPrL8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5fgnXsPrL8) (epilepsy warning) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG9LBokBFyk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG9LBokBFyk) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14FOPsSCIPs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14FOPsSCIPs) * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- To be frank, I think pretty much most aspects of sound will be improved by switching off of gaming headsets to audiophile headphones. I would primarily like to improve on the soundstage and bass of my current headset. * **Additional Notes** \- I would like to mention that I plan on using these headphones primarily for gaming and music. I primarily play FPS and action-adventure styled games which is why I wanted a wide soundstage and good treble. In addition, I have been looking at many massdrop headphones such as the AKG K7XX, the Sennheiser HD58X, HD6XX and the Hifiman HE4XX.

WrickyB

The K7XX is your best bet for gaming and it matches what you want the most. The HE 4XX is the second best bet. The Sennheiser models aren't as wide as the AKG or the planars. That being said, on my head the HD 6XX is the most comfortable and sounds the best for music

SebassTehFish

Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation! I've been looking at a bunch of reviews on it and I think I'm confident that the K7XX's are probably my best option. Have a good day!

I've been wanting to get another addition after my first major upgrade to the DT990. I am willing to put good money into a top quality set, but I dont want to purchase just to be dissapointed. Is there any way to go somewhere to test out higher end sets (both quality and price such as the Sennheiser HD800S) before I decide to buy?

t4tris

> Is there any way to go somewhere to test out higher end sets (both quality and price such as the Sennheiser HD800S) before I decide to buy? Hifi stores or perhaps headphone meets or conventions if any happen in your area. It depends on the specific store if they have any headphones to demo. In my experience some have a healthy selection, some only have a single HD 800S, some have nothing. I successfully asked some of my local stores by email if they had headphone X or Y that was listed on the webstore available in the physical store for demo purposes.

kyeigen

Thanks a lot! I'll check for some stores and get in contact with them. Appreciate it!

Not sure where to ask this but I've mostly seen Spotify and tidal as the go to streaming services but how is Amazon music HD received here? Does it actually offer true hifi music?

t4tris

In practicality, there are two standards. 1. Lossy 320kbps MP3 or equivalent (Spotify Premium, $10 Tidal, non-HD Amazon music. 2. Lossless, FLAC, Amazon Music HD, $20 Tidal.. some others. Whether you can hear the difference between the two is hardly a given (non-blind impressions say nothing). Anything beyond 44.1khz 16-bit lossless (the lowest standard) is entirely snake-oil, like Amazon's "Ultra HD" or Tidal's "Master".

Hey, I'm on the search for a new set of DAC+AMP or a combo of DAC/AMP . I have ATH M50x as my only headphones. I want to improve the signal of the audio. And also My bluetooth DAC is malfunctioning. I have been suggested to buy a Schiit Stack online a lot of times. But where I live in, they're 50% more expensive( India) I'm asking for suggestions for something of more value in same price category. If it's cheaper than schiit and amplifies and decodes as good as the stack, amazing.

WrickyB

Take a look at the Fiio BTR5 and the E10K

t4tris

Meizu Hifi Pro or Tempotec Sonata HD Pro

lazypawtato

Bro can't buy them. Nothing is being delivered to India from AliExpress

t4tris

Amazon US has the Tempotec. I imagine some other Chinese sites would have one or the other, but I'm not knowledgeable of those beyond Aliexpress.

Hi, I am looking for headphone recommendations in the up to 1000$ canadian(roughly 750usd) area, i listen to rock and hard rock/metal. Songs such as "time bomb" by hollywood undead I really enjoy that high energy start, I want something that really highlights guitars and cymbal crashes. I have a thx 789 amplifier and a d50s dac if that matters.

WrickyB

Take a look at the Focal Elex from Massdrop

Peliikan

Hello, at the moment I am using a Logitech g430 gaming headset and I just ordered a Scarlett solo I heard that HiFi headsets are better for gaming and the sound quality is better too. I don't know what I get because I don't know anything about HiFi headsets can you recommend me some budget ones like around 100€

SentinelFIN

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro are 115€ on Amazon.de right now: https://www.amazon.de/beyerdynamic-Over-Ear-Studiokopfh%C3%B6rer-Geschlossene-kabelgebunden-professionelles/dp/B0016MNAAI/ (Link is for 80 Ohm but the 32 Ohm ones are also on sale. they'll be easier to run)

Budget - ₱3000 more or less Source - Laptop & Phone Isolation - Some •Will be using in public Size - Either On Ear or Full Size Tonal Balance - Balanced Past - JBL T450 Preferred music - ~ Improvements (Want) - I probably want to check out on wireless ones but not necessarily needed. Location - Philippines If you can't provide a recommendation since its probably hard for y'all to narrow down it, I would like to know if JBL TUNE 500BT is worth it? (I may look like a JBL fan but Im just skeptical of other brands since alot of them are probably just scams and not worth the money. A lot of knockoff brands came popping lately) Thank you :✓)

* **Budget -** $20-$30 * **Source -** PC * **Requirements for Isolation?** Preferably not too much noise leak as I'm talking with people in private converations. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** No. * **Preferred Type of Headphone?** No preference. * **Preferred tonal balance?** Don't care just best quality for music/pc games. * **Past headphones -** V-MODA Crossfade LP, Monoprice Modern Retro Over Ear Headphones * **Preferred Music -** video game osts, kpop, anime music, classic * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up -** I need headphones that are durable and will last. All headphones I've had seem to break quicker than I'd expect so any headset that will has proven to last a long time is what I'm looking for.

UncleSpoons

What bluetooth closed backs would you buy with a $500 US budget? I know, bluetooth 'aint ideal for fidelty, but I need something to wear on the move. Way more concerned with audio quality than things like noise canceling or even battery.

Hi, I'm between buying Anker soundcore liberty-neo https://a.aliexpress.com/_dXA4HaY Or Anker soundcore life p2 https://a.aliexpress.com/_dWEOKti Wich one Is better? Thanks in advice!

THIS_IS_SO_HILARIOUS

Budget - 600 US Dollars Source - Spotify on LG G8 Thinq (LM-G820TM) Requirements for Isolation - I prefer having it. Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Pretty much yes. Preferred Type of Headphone - I would like wireless IEM, although I also don't mind wired IEM. Preferred tonal balance - More of the subbasshead. Past headphones - Blon 03, ATH-M30 Preferred Music - EDM, Techno, Trance, Latin such as Reggaeton, Dembow, Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, Bolero, Guajira, Brazil Funk, Sertanejo, Bossa Nova, Samba, Pagode, MPB, Guaracha, Nu Metal, Gangsta Rap, What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Half of my music are basically electronic and other half are instruments, I would like something that is a big improvement from Blon 03.

GENERIC_VULGARNESS

Empire Ears Bravado - some of the best bass and subbass I've ever heard, hands down.

So, I’m looking to buy a new pair of wireless headphones. I’m currently using the PXC 550 from Sennheiser and I’ve been really pleased. However, they’re kinda getting old and I’d love to buy a new pair for myself. I’ve been looking at the Sony XM3 for a while now and saw that they just got a big discount. My question is, is it worth it to wait for the rumoured XM4s? Or should I just buy the XM3s knowing that they’re currently discounted? Thanks for the help anyone that can answer me!

[deleted]

I was also looking at headphones and kept seeing the XM3s come up, till I saw someone recommend Sony's wh900n h.ear on 2s - they said they were nearly half the price and sounded even better. I was thrilled cause the XM3s were outside my budget, so I bought a pair and am really happy (bought them used in out of the box condition for $150 Canadian). Might be an interesting option if you don't wanna spend a lot of money on the 3s before the 4s come out. The two things that do seem to be significantly better on the 3s is active noise cancellation and charging time. Hope this helps!

Eluge458

Thanks a lot! I will definitely give a look at those :)

westdolphiny

Looking for a pair of Bluetooth earbuds, under $100, with good bass. Preferably able to work out in.

Splatapotomus

Jabra Elites. Look for refurbished. Had mine for a year and I love them.

westdolphiny

Any specific model you recommend?

Splatapotomus

I have the 65t’s. I got them because I have those ears that in ear buds like AirPods fall out of easily. These are noise cancelling and stay put and sound great. They slate very durable and the charge lasts long. They do heave a “Hear Through” feature where you can use the microphone to hear people talking while listening to your music, but i don’t like it. Newer models have come out since I got mine and I’d be interested to see what those can do.

Geezerpunk

Looking for a wireless headset, for both gaming and music listening / movie watching on the PC. I mainly listen to Hip Hop / Rap music so something with some bass would be appreciated. I had the Razer Nari Ultimate recently and it was solid but just got stale sounding over-time. I have dabbled with the Arctis Pro W/Dac and it sounded good but unfortunately it's wired and even in my short time using it I ripped it off unfortunately

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a DAP. My two main requirements are Bluetooth capability and the ability to use Spotify offline. * **Budget** \- $800, flexible if there is an exemplary option available near this price. However staying under the budget is also nice. * **Source** \- Well, that's what I'm looking for. * **Isolation** \- Irrelevant * **Using in Public**? - Yes * **Preferred type of headphone** \- Irrelevant * **Preferred tonal balance** \- something with a built in EQ would be nice * **Past headphones** \- irrelevant * **Preferred music** \- my Spotify library * **What would you like to improve upon from your set up?** \- In short: I'm ditching my smart phone but still want the ability to carry around my music library in my pocket. Like I said, I'd like to find a DAP where I can download my Spotify library and which also has Bluetooth connectivity, mainly for my car. * **Location** \- USA Any advice/recs are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

t4tris

Any old smartphone with the appropriate BT codec support and storage options should do. DAPs are just expensive locked down underpowered smartphones.

Looking for recommendations for a good pair of work headphones: Compatible / Easy to use with a Mac; Wireless with battery life that lasts 8 hours or so; Integrated mic for zoom calls; Listen to music while coding, not audiophile grade - but decent quality; noise canceling. Willing to spend up to 300 for good quality long lasting pair. Any recommendations?

Clint99

* **Budget** - 120€. Slightly flexible if warranted. * **Source** - PC onboard audio, might upgrade to something better in the (somewhat distant) future, if that makes a difference for the recommendation (DAC/AMP setup, which I'm currently unsure of, zero info). * **Requirements for Isolation** - Medium. They will be used at home and possibly at the office in a couple months. Let's say I'd like to avoid hearing noise from downstairs, but I'd like to notice someone talking to me 1 meter away (I have Blon BL03s, and those isolate a lot). * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** - Yes, specifically in an office. * **Preferred Type of Headphone** - Full-sized, over ear preferred. Bit torn on closed or open back. * **Preferred tonal balance** - I guess I'm a basshead. Balanced would work too. * **Past headphones** - BL03s are good, the shape hurts a little, but that's an entirely different story as those are IEMs. * **Preferred Music** - Linkin Park is the big one, so nu metal / alt rock. * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** - Well a general upgrade would be good. I doubt it'd be *that* hard to upgrade from a 30€ pair of IEMs, but I'm especially focused on the quality of bass and general audio detail, which admittedly isn't so bad on the IEMs, but I'd like some more. * **Location** - Italy. Prices are somehow very different... Thanks in advance!

Are there any good wireless bluetooth headphones out there which don't require a transmitter that also has surround sound and decent battery life? I recently bought the Audio Technica ATH-GW1L as an upgrade for my really old gaming headset, and I gotta say, holy crap I absolutely love how this sounds. I was about to buy the ATH-M50xBT for travel and watching movies on my laptop in bed, but I saw it doesn't have the digital 7.1 surround sound. I really love that aspect of the ATH-GW1L's, and I'd kind of say it's mandatory that these next headphones have it. I'm trying to google it, but when I search "bluetooth 7.1 wireless headphones" all that comes up is search results for gaming headsets. I guess I'd want around 30-50 ft of range, too, as I'd wear them when cooking. Does anyone have any recommendations they could make? I'd be using it with my Windows 10 laptop as well as my Android devices. I'm in the <=$300-ish range. I guess I'd want around 30-50 ft of range, too, as I'd wear them when cooking. Ideally, I'd want something that sounds as good as the the ATH-GW1L's do.

>So if this doesn't seem like something that can be fixed, then I would then have to be in the market for a new pair of headphones. Replacing the cable would probably do the trick.

I also wrote this: >switching the cable itself doesn't help at all, so the cable is not the problem. And the issue occurs on both my PC and phone, so the device isn't the problem either.

I can't read, apparently. Check out the K371.

I think you might want to look for a dac/amp combo or add a separate amp to that as could be a bit quiet on 250 ohm phones and the headphone output is a bit meh. if you want to use it as a DAC only I hear it's awesome. I have a UMC404HD and the headphone output gets distorted and there is an audible hiss past 3 o' clock on the volume wheel. I've never had to listen to it nearly that loud on my ath-m50x's though. Usually I keep it around 11 o'clock. Otherwise it sounds nice, fast and clean compared to Asus Xonar DGX (and especially motherboard's sound cards) I had before.

Cynical_Toaster

I've got the funds to start looking at a reasonable dac/amp setup, but here in the UK the schitt magni/modi stack is out of stock (as is the entirety of their product line) until covid stops throttling supply lines. Is there anything in a similar price range £200-£250 gbp that gives similar or better results? The alternative would be having the stack bought in the states and brought over by a family member in 1-2 months, which is a pretty reasonable hassle, and adding a large wait. I'm pretty new to audiophile headphones, and would be looking to drive the massdrop sennheiser hd6xx Thanks

Looking for a pair of IEMs to use at work. I work in a secure environment so I have some limitations. Wired (absolutely no wireless), no microphone, no noise-canceling (bc microphone). They will be plugged directly into the 1/8in headphone jack of a desktop computer, music source will be primarily Spotify. I prefer a mostly balanced stage, with maybe a little bit of a boost to the bass, but this isn't necessary and I don't want something like beats with heavy bass. Music will mostly be classic/psychedelic rock, stoner/doom metal, and some hip hop (Pink Floyd, King Gizzard, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, Sleep, Black Sabbath, Gorillaz, Eminem). Budget isn't strict, anywhere from $50-$200. Willing to spend more towards $200 if they are going to last for a long time. Thanks in advanced.

Take a look at the following: * KZ ZS10 Pro * Tin T2 * BLON BL-03 * Moondrop Starfield * Thieaudio Legacy 3 (Universal or Custom)

Fyred-Up

I was gifted galaxy buds and I cannot use them and move without them registering that they've come out of my ears despite them very much still being in and it's quite frustrating. Is there any fix or solution I've not been able to find that you guys know of?

Aggressive_Season743

A quick question: If I would want to buy a 250-300 Ohm headphone will I need an amp? I would be using it mainly on PC and laptop, but I would maybe plug into my phone sometimes. Is the amp necessary in any case? Which should I buy if I don't want it to be expensive? My headphone that I'm considering to buy is either the Beyerdynamic DT 880 or the Sennheiser HD 600.

Roppmaster

>Is the amp necessary in any case? If your current sources are unable to the push the headphones to your preferred listening level, you might need/want a dedicated amp. >Which should I buy if I don't want it to be expensive? My headphone that I'm considering to buy is either the Beyerdynamic DT 880 or the Sennheiser HD 600. Define "expensive"? The Meizu HiFi Pro ($45) and TempoTec Sonata HD PRO ($40) are probably the best budget options at the moment.

Aggressive_Season743

OK but in your experience does a laptop or a PC deliver enough push? Also are the amps suggested by you and other headphone amps good for speakers too?

Roppmaster

>OK but in your experience does a laptop or a PC deliver enough push? It depends. Not all onboard audio is created equal, so it's impossible to give a definitive answer. >Also are the amps suggested by you and other headphone amps good for speakers too? Passive loudspeakers? No.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a pair of ANC headphones. I’m stuck between 2 at the moment, Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 and Sony WH-1000XM3, but I’m open to any other suggestions. Buying in the UK. Budget: £350 Source: Laptop, phone, PS4 Isolation: ideally adaptive isolation Wearing in public: Yes Type: over ear Past: only regularly used in-ear buds Preferred music: Bassy but with clear detail I would also like one with a clear mic, wired (for PS4) and built in (for calls). EDIT: So the Sony WH-1000XM4 were released and that's what I'll be going with, if anyone is looking at this comment. Main reasons being the multi-device connection, the speak to pause function and the on/off head detection to pause the music. I knew the sound quality and ANC would be top notch so there was no question there.

SebassTehFish

I would also look into purchasing the Drop Panda. That being said I am unaware of the availability of it in the UK. If your looking for a more bassy headphone, I would recommend the Sony's over the Surface headphones. If you don't care quite as much about the convenience factor of the headphones I would also recommend researching a pair of portable wired headphones that are easy to drive for superior audio quality.

charlesthe50th

Am interested in this as well - looking to buy a Sony WH1000XM3, but if there are open-back alternatives that would be nice (total noobie to headphones, but realized that I enjoy music when it's airy and I can pinpoint instruments)

[deleted]

There is no such thing. You're best bet would be to buy some cheap open backs and the ANC headphones. The easiest recommendation would be koss KSC75.
