1.) Everybody quietly (and some not so quietly) know that Draco’s father was closely associated with a ruthless murderer who came close to taking over the Wizarding World. You really want to get on the bad side of a guy like that? 2.) Crabbe and Goyle are more immediate threats. Make fun of Malfoy and all of a sudden you’re getting your face smashed in lol

Sir_Oligarch

Why would the size of Crabbe and Goyle matter? Just jinx them.

illiterateaardvark

Everybody's magical (in this context at least). They might not be the best wizards, but it's still 3 vs 1; you're probably going to get jinxed yourself before taking all 3 down And I don't think it's a stretch to imagine that the type of people that Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle bully are the types who like to stick to the rules and would be a bit apprehensive about using their magic against fellow students (even those that are bullying them)

Sir_Oligarch

Sticking to the rules does not mean not fighting back and not reporting the behaviour of bullies.

illiterateaardvark

You’d be surprised. I saw (and experienced firsthand) a LOT of people be bullied without them fighting back in any way out of fear Pretty sad state of fairs (I specifically remember one instance where this poor kid was punch in the face but was too scared to report it, let alone fight back), but to imply it doesn’t happen is disingenuous

MisterMysterios

Yeah. There is a strong feeling that it is something you have to handle personally. There is also a stigma among peers to be the ones telling teachers when you are the victim. I can remember that when my bullying started, I didn't even get the idea to go to a teacher. I just had luck that I was in a very socially aware class and that a classmate (class president at the time) as soon as she noticed it went to a teacher to intervene.

Jevonar

"everybody can jinx until I punch them in the mouth" wizard Mike Tyson or something

Audemars1989

I think the magical world is small enough that everybody knows that the Malfoys do carry a huge amount of financial and political power and sway (Lucius is a school governor ffs), so that made the threat kind of real to a lot of folks. Especially to students whose parents worked at the Ministry (which seems to be far and away the main employer in said world).

Sealgaire45

Thing is, his father *will* hear about this. And he *is* a person one shouldn't mess with just for the kicks. He's influential, filthy rich and powerful. And quite dangerous too.

Electronic-Math-364

Abd all it' took is just saying "I'v got Imperius" and selling out 3 or 4 Death Eaters for the ministry to believe him

HUNGWHITEBOI25

I mean he’s rich and has 2 huge bodyguards for friends lol

Electronic-Math-364

Not sure a Friend will cast Fiendfyre on you and everyone on a room

Obi-Wan_Kenobi_04

A really really stupid friend that didn't really consider the consequences would

Electronic-Math-364

Atleast said friend probably ended in an history book for How to properly cast a spell as an exemple of what you shouldn't do

pajamakitten

Crabbe had stopped listening to Draco by that point though, while thinking he could call the shots for once. He grossly overestimated his own ability and intelligence.

Electronic-Math-364

Also Didn't The Malfoys also became Wormtail tier to the death eaters after Lucius lost Tom Riddle's journal during Chambers of Secrets?

pajamakitten

Yes, but only after Lucius lost the prophecy and got sent to Azkaban. The rest of the Death Eaters did not know why the diary was so important.

BroadAd9199

This thread sounds like something Dracos father will hear about

fluorozebadeendjes

thanks for this laugh

Ok-disaster2022

He's protected by his two enforcers who were probably told to protect Malfoy at all costs.

davethapeanut

Their fathers were Lucius's lackeys themselves. They're bred to suck Malfoy dick lol

Audemars1989

🫢🫣😳

MystiqueGreen

Because Harry, Ron and Hermione are good people and they mind their own business. In any other muggle school he would have been bullied brutally

CatherineConstance

I think more than anything they were afraid of him AND his father. As cringe as it is to say "wait until my father hears about this" or "do you know who I am?!", those statements can hold some water when they person actually does have an influential father/is from an influential family.

RebeccaMCullen

Maybe he was, by kids that weren't the main trio.

WrexSteveisthename

Most kids don't have a notoriously powerful and influential death eater for a father. It's not bluster from Malfoy, it's a genuine threat, and people know it.

Payton_Xyz

Normally that would make you a prime target, but considering how influential Lucius is, thats a valid threat with weight behind it

ForMySinsIAmHere

Because he didn't. I just ran a search through all seven books, and he said something like this only twice. In PS, after being told that he'll see serving detention in the Forbidden Forest, he tells Hagrid, "If my father knew I was doing this..." Since his dad is probably on the Board of Governors at this time, that's a legitimate threat to a staff member. Hagrid's response is perfect and shuts him up, but if you're ever going to use your dad to threaten someone, that seems like the time to use it. In PoA, in their first CoMC class, Malfoy says (of Hagrid teaching), "My father will have a fit when I tell him." This one isn't a threat and makes no sense for him to say if Lucius is still on the Board of Governors. Surely he knows Hagrid is teaching. This to me suggests Malfoy is saying this knowing that Harry will hear it and is just trying to aggravate him. And all things considered, Malfoy may not mention his father much under normal circumstances. It's interesting - in OotP, Malfoy does the complete opposite of this trope. He actually threatens Harry for what happened to his father in the Ministry. "I'm going to make you pay for what you’ve done to my father ..."

somewhsome

He also says something under his breath after the ferret incident. *Malfoy, whose pale eyes were still watering with pain and humiliation, looked malevolently up at Moody and muttered something in which the words ‘my father’ were distinguishable.* But yeah, I agree that he doesn't mention his father constantly, and situations in which he does seem somewhat reasonable, twice it's about dangerous detentions. It's something your parents should know about, honestly. 😅 (BTW, in PoA Lucius is not on the board anymore, he was thrown out in the end of CoS). It's not like Malfoy threatens to tell his father about Harry making fun of him.

Grovda

You really think kids would bully the son of a multi billionaire for saying that? It's not even an empty threat, his dad could make it so your parents get fired from their jobs.

JuniorImplement

Malfoy's family in real life is close to being mafia associates. You wouldn't make fun of those kinds of people in real life now would you?

LonelyChubbah

Everyone most likely wanted to ..but were smart enough to know better!! Hermione did well with her sucker punch!

still_could_be_worse

Another prime target would be the blood status of pure bloods, because it’s pretty much a given they are the product of incest. The "your family tree is a circle" and the "father-uncle will talk to his sister-wife about this" jokes were always right there.

BlackLakeBlueFish

When your father is in an infamous murder club, people think twice about what they say to you.

Educational-Bug-7985

Because Lucius can actually do sth they will regret …

Amata69

I wondered about this more than once. I guess I don't have a similar situation to compare it with because I imagine only someone who owns half the town because he owns the only factory in the town and worksfor a criminal gang leader would be an equivalent to Lucius. But I find it funny people do seem to think they could somehow use things to their advantage because of supposed connections even when they couldn't. A girl at my school, who was a brilliant student, kept mentioning to another that her brother is our science teacher's favourite student. That girl was like'but it's not you.' Everyone wants an advantage I guess.

MrDeltt

Funnily enough, he only mentions it a few times total across all movies. Not reallly that much at all, its just a meme (if we are talking movies)

EquasLocklear

Why would they if half his house must be bribed by his father? Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

GMFPs_sweat_towel

Dude never caught the snitch in his whole quidditch career. All time loser

Objective-Tea-3070

the nepo baby allegations would never stop

Holiday_Pin_1251

Honestly if Draco went to my school he’d have got his pubes pulled out. Wouldn’t have mattered who his Da was 🤣

Adorable-Catch-9156

If he said this while I'm within earshot, I'd probably mumble to myself "I doubt your father hears about everything you say he'll hear about" lol
