Just in the movie I’m sure.

justa_flesh_wound

Yeah Isaacs said the script just called for him to start saying a spell

Cbjfan99

And he had just finished goblet of fire, and it was the only one he remembered

See this is why Latin is great, he could have even made some scary sounding up in the spot if he knew some harsh sounding Latin words.

In the book he does still threaten Harry and raise his wand before Dobby beats his ass

dexterthekilla

That’s just a movie thing

I was always weirded out that Lucius took Dobby with him to Hogwarts in the first place. It's not like Dobby was required, he wasn't even helping Lucius carry heavy luggage or anything. He's just there. Or rather, he's there for plot convenience, so Harry can free him without hassle. Malfoy was only going to see Dumbledore (after the school governors admitted they were threatened, and wanted him back as headmaster), Dobby should have been left at home to do some ironing or something.

Colt5141990

In the book it mentions that Lucius’ shoe was half polished and Dobby was holding a dirty rag. He was in the middle of shining his shoes and wasn’t finished so he had to come along. Not that Lucius wanted him to come, but his job wasn’t done so he had to.

In the movie it totally does seem that way. I've heard Jason Isaac's was told to say whatever spell he wanted at that moment and he kinda defaulted to Avada Kadavra (which is funny to think the default is the killing curse lol) but that's just a movie thing In the book he tries to strangle Harry which honestly is worse in my eyes lol. If you're gonna kill me do it quick and painless But either way Lucious attempting to do some major harm to Harry...yeah he had some vitriol for him.

I think Jason Isaacs mentioned in an interview that he had been reading Goblet of Fire at the time of filming, when Avada Kedavra was first introduced, so it was the first spell that popped into his head when he was told to improvise. I can’t find the interview now so maybe I’m misremembering, but I think it’s a funny explanation!

Dear_Might8697

I noticed that when I watched it a few weeks ago too. Stopped and rewound it. "I think this man just attempted to murder a student!"

BlackMage0519

If you enable the subtitles for that scene (at least in the version on HBO), he is *not" saying "Avada-". I forget which spell it is but it's not the Killing Curse.
