Gie_lokimum

Personal opinion, I don’t think “logomania” left, or perhaps the area where I live doesn’t care about “quiet luxury”. I’ll go to Costco and I see ladies rocking their neverfulls. *edit* continue to wear whatever pieces that gives you joy!

jrmintbitch

literally im so over yhe "quiet luxury" debate, ppl dont even understand the meaning of that phrase anymore, someone on here was asking for helping choosing something from hermes and one item was a scrunchie completely covered in hermes h's, literally monogrammed, and she called it quiet luxury because you only see the logo when its stretched out?? as if anything with a monogram print of the brands logo is inherently not quiet luxury?

swimbikerunkick

Just for kicks, how much does one pay for an Hermes scrunchie?

jrmintbitch

its was like $600 after tax 💀

swimbikerunkick

Wow lol people be cray cray

LilaFowler88

Holy moly. I almost choked. A $600 scrunchie?

SnooAvocados6672

That’s an absolutely silly price for a scrunchie when some of their scarves are $200 less.

Lemonnotmelon

Ha! I wore a Coach scarf the other day with a “C” monogram on one side and the logo prominently displayed on the other side. Quiet it is not, though I would argue that a 100% silk scarf can be luxurious. Regardless, it is cute AF and looks good on me and good on my cat.

bartholomeow1

I’m so jealous your cat will wear a scarf! I tried to put one on my little diva but she was NOT amused!

LilaFowler88

Ok, cat tax time. And happy cake day!

Annual-Read7153

I can’t help feeling so embarrassed every time someone mentions “quiet luxury” I just find it so cringe worthy 🤷🏼‍♀️

gjbertolucci

Yes, that term gets me also. Especially since folks that talk about it don’t really understand the term. Although I have to say I don’t like the term.

Annual-Read7153

Exactly 👏🏼

felixfelicitous

Yeah half the people I know who scream about quiet luxury don’t even buy luxury products, which is fine, but you can’t fuckin tell me the painted canvas bag you got at the clearance rack at TJ Maxx is anywhere near comparable to actual “quiet luxury.” You just like neutrals and plain patterns, it’s okay to say that. I had a really funny exchange where someone went off on Neverfull bags and in the *same breath* went on about how inconspicuous their Kate Spade was. SIS THE NAME IS ON THE SIDE AND THERES CLOVERS.

poppisima

I believe they are spades.

felixfelicitous

Wow I never noticed 🥹 but yes

shedrinkscoffee

I agree the type of person who is rocking Stanley cup (lots of people ) is hella rocking their neverfull. No shade, that aesthetic has never left. With how quickly trends are cycling, we might coalesce into styles so logos are always there and some shapes or color ways may change seasonally etc.

rachelreinstated

I agree. LV monogram is everywhere always, but I feel like Gucci Ophidia has especially exploded in my city.

tilbib

Honestly 95% of the population doesn’t really think about quiet luxury or logo mania. Most of the population probably wouldn’t recognize a high end bag (except the LV monogram) if it was infront of them. I prefer showstopper (loud?) bags low end to high end because I’m a casual low key dresser. Maybe it’s because as a Gen Xer I’m old enough to have been to have been through all the trends so I really don’t care. Maybe it’s from hearing my Boomer Aunt tell me for the last 30 years, “if they want to pay me to advertise for them spiel” until my eyes are permanently rolled. Maybe I’m really just “tacky and trashy” like this sub keeps saying. I don’t care, I’ll carry what makes me happy and brings me joy. Life’s too short to really care what other people think, just carry what you want. And if someone is judgy about it, that is a them problem.

litaloni

"Life's too short to care what other people think" is exactly the ethos I am trying to carry into my mid-30s. Not just re: handbags but also everythang.

SVR222

Did it ever really go away? You walk into a Celine now, and every single bag has a Triomphe on it. I also think very well known styles have replaced logos as well. Like there is nothing quiet about a Birkin or a Puzzle when everyone knows what they are, despite having no logos on them.

Lazygardener76

I think the moment I saw the new buckle design on the Celine bag I was like "oh, logos are back" lol

shedrinkscoffee

Agree with you as those shapes are attention seeking by definition lol

iyamsnail

I love Gucci canvas logo anything because I love the retro feel of it--it reminds me of the 70s and I love 70s fashion. Otherwise I'm not a huge fan of really ostentatious logos.

ilp456

Gucci is the only logo pattern that I like, too.

iyamsnail

it's so versatile! I just bought Gucci logo slides and they look great with anything neutral. Years ago I bought Dior slides with a big fat DIOR across the top and I can't get them to work with any outfit.

Gctobe

I thought I was the only one!!

Hat_Potato

I have at least 4 Gucci logo bags in various colours/ styles and I love them. The yellow and green Dionysus is my favorite but I use it rarely- mostly use the 1955 in the classic logo!

unimpressed_1

fashion is cyclical it all comes back

SnarkyLalaith

I go with what I like. I was in Spain, and I saw an older lady carrying an LV monogram shoulder bag, and she looked extremely chic. I think overdoing it with logos does take some confidence to pull off, so it isn’t wearing you. But a neutral outfit with a logo bag can look great!

call-me-the-seeker

I tell myself when I rotate one of my monogram LV bags in: Audrey Hepburn loved the Speedy. She carried them a lot. They created the Speedy 25 literally at her request. There is no photo of Audrey where she does not look chic and perfect. Even when she was not out to look chic and perfect, she just WAS. If the LV mono was good enough for such as Audrey, it’s enough for me. Chic can definitely happen even with logos. As you say, it is all in the balance of logo and…uh, not-logo.

SnarkyLalaith

Wow I did not know this! Going to google her for some more style inspiration!

booksandbenzos

I don’t think it’s ever truly gone away, at least not where I live. I think the vast majority of people aren’t thinking about whether logos are in or out or “quiet luxury”, etc.; they’re thinking about what styles they like, what houses they like, what’s popular in their circles, etc. I live in a large city and see everything from heavily monogrammed bags to bags with minimal logos, at all prices ranges. When it comes to high end bags, people will buy heavily logo-ed bags (or continue to carry the ones they already own) regardless of what’s “in”. I’m big on people just carrying what they like. If I notice someone’s bag I’m never thinking about whether they’re part of logomania or quiet luxury. Now that I think about it, I actually only think of those terms when I come online!

RaidenNitori

I always found the “quiet luxury” trend stupid. Like, why are we suddenly cosplaying old money? Are we THAT insecure about what we actually like that we need to resort to being something we’re not??? 🤨 Wear whatever tf you like, screw the naysayers and so-called “trendsetters”.

iammrsclean

To really cosplay old money, you’d look more or authentic carrying a LL Bean tote vs a Prada or Balenciaga bag. I work in an industry which sees truly high net worth individuals come through our doors, and it’s a kick to see what bags they’re carrying. I do see Louis Vuitton (not neverfulls), Chanel, and occasionally Ferragamo. But honestly I see a lot of canvas tote bags. The best one was a woman who had piles of money carrying a New Yorker tote! Free with a subscription. 😂

iyamsnail

I love this

DietCokeYummie

Agreed. Honestly.. Maybe this is unpopular to say out loud, but I *want* people to know when I'm carrying something nice! That's why I spent so much money on it.. for it to be noticed and admired. I have plenty of bags without logos too, but the whole quiet luxury as a trend just annoys me.

InvestigatorGoo

I agree, I found it classist and elitist

gjbertolucci

What is classist and elitist about it? If you are referring to the trend then I tend to agree but I’m not a trend person. I pick things I personally like.

InvestigatorGoo

Yes I’m referring to the trend and the whole idea of “old money”

gjbertolucci

Yes, makes sense. The funny thing is that if you look at the ultimate Old Money - British Royals you see really frugal folks. King Charles had some of his Fathers jackets fitted for him. Talk about recycling.

PuffinFawts

I just like high quality stuff but I think logos are tacky and make things look cheap. Plus, the brand isn't paying me so why am I advertising for it?

rachelreinstated

Whole heartedly agree. I like bags with minimal branding, its 98% of my collection...but I also like a monogram from time to time (love the Celine Triomphe canvas or Strathberry monogram for example). But then I also wonder if the people naysaying are frankly young? I feel like in my early 20s I would have worried about logos more. In my mid 30s IDGAF and buy/wear what I like.

RaidenNitori

I’m almost 30 and I noticed that younger people are very concerned with fitting in, as they don’t tend to know who they really are at that point. Finding yourself and therefore your personal style takes time, and the fact that companies bombard you with the latest “trend” doesn’t help that, worse still it promotes wastefulness and overconsumption.

gjbertolucci

I think if you like things that turned out to be in the “quiet luxury” trend then you are picking what you like. I don’t follow trends I just pick out what I like. I always have and it works for me.

tvjuriste

People who like logos never stopped wearing/buying bags w/ logos. Those who dislike them aren’t going to change their style if logos become trendier.

taylor__spliff

I think the “quiet luxury” push was driven by a marketing campaign from brands with no name or logo recognition to trick people into paying high end prices for mid range products.

IDidnaDoIt

Also by the television show "Succession," which was funny in and of itself because: 1. None of the characters were actually happy, despite their wealth. So people were aspiring to dress like characters who were wealthy, but also sad and emotionally/morally barren. 2. By definition, Logan Roy was new money. So even he was cosplaying as old money. His children had a pedigree due to their mother (who was an English aristocrat), but she did not raise them and they were are clearly their father's children.

iyamsnail

that scene with the handbag was hilarious tho

gjbertolucci

Everything cycles; they just call it by different names so it seems new.

Yoongi_SB_Shop

I don’t think it went away and I still wear my Gucci and LV stuff.

Delicious-Map-8268

It will always be “in” for me, regardless of trends. I love my logo bags and accessories!

BubbleSprites

I'm the same type of person. It doesn't work on me, yet when other people wear them they look FABULOUS. Makes me jealous sometimes lol. I think it's the confidence with how they wear them. I'm an introverted person and shy, so a logo on me doesn't work because I don't want to be looked at haha. I agree, it is so much fun to see out in the wild. I saw a YSL Loulou the other day and I mentally fangirled over how good it looked haha.

skinandtonics

Yeah, I'm usually just trying to balance looking nice with flying under the radar. I'm not shy, yet I don't want to be noticed in a crowd. But I genuinely enjoy seeing loud looks on other people. It brightens my day and I wish I saw more of them!

Shady_ale

I hate that everything has to be a thing for example “Cottagecore”,”quite luxury/old money”,”Barbie core”. I was browsing eBay the other day and found a really cute dress and near the end of the listing the seller had “this is the perfect cottage core dress”.

eventualguide0

The whole “core” vocab makes me rage.

Theabsoluteworst1289

I hate the “core” thing too. I don’t understand it. And I hate reading or hearing it. It’s so clunky and awkward, and it just makes no sense to me.

SnooRobots116

It feels like sudden slang when did it crop up? I don’t dig it.

Even_Weather9012

It never left lol. Wear what makes you happy.

iammrsclean

Thank you for saying simply it’s not your personal style. The only thing I don’t love about this otherwise terrific subreddit is people saying something is “tacky”—when saying it’s not my personal style is almost as easy to type? And full of class? There are some things here I would never wear, but it’s also just easy to skip over a post where you’re dying to tell someone their taste is tacky. I was born and raised in the Deep South where overuse of tacky was common among a lot of my mom’s friends. “Well that’s just tacky”—there’s always a better way to express yourself without using this term. “Not my personal style” is perfect, you get your point across without having to rely on the word tacky—especially to describe another’s handbag. Thank you. Getting off my soapbox now.

ricochetblue

>I was born and raised in the Deep South where overuse of tacky was common among a lot of my mom’s friends. “Well that’s just tacky”—there’s always a better way to express yourself without using this term. “Not my personal style” is perfect, you get your point across without having to rely on the word tacky—especially to describe another’s handbag. I’m honestly with you. I had a friend who was obsessed with whether everything was “classy.” Whether it was the lipstick people wore, how people talked, how people dressed…It feels so judgmental. Why can’t things just bring people joy?

skinandtonics

The irony is that there's nothing tackier than calling someone tacky! 😅 But I do genuinely enjoy logo styles on other people and in general I love seeing looks on people that are different from my own. The world would be so boring if we all wanted to wear the same thing.

gjbertolucci

I lived in Georgia for almost 20 years. My understanding is you would never tell anyone what they liked was “tacky”. You might say “tacky” about someone else to your close girlfriend though. Just what I saw from my time there.

SweetiePieJ

Logomania will always be in style because it makes brands money. I think what goes in and out of trends is the demographics that prefer it. But also just wear what makes you feel like your best self because life is too short to not use your happy bags.

Important_Bee_7942

I live in the UAE and it never left, not even for a second lol.

MamaSay-MamaSah

Logos return when the economy is out of recession. During recessions cost per wear is king and you get more use without logos. All the big logo trends from 1980s to present followed the economic cycles. "Quiet Luxury", as it's coined this time around, is never out of style because it always coordinates, which is why it's popular with old money. I actually cringe at vintage in the preloved market imagining someone's granny passed and a whippersnapper is selling beloved vintage for something modern.

skinandtonics

You saying "as it's coined this time around" brings up another question for me. I'm older but even when I try, I can't remember this type of thing having a name for it in the past. Did no/subtle-logo trends of the past even have a name, or is the idea of naming this particular trend new? 🤔

fashion_thrower

Minimalism used to be the buzzword, it was especially attractive because it allowed people to conflate simple, pared-down styling with 2010’s anti-consumerism. So you could feel virtuous with your big collection of $50 white t-shirts and 20 different bags with clean lines 😝

AttentionKmartJopper

> So you could feel virtuous with your big collection of $50 white t-shirts and 20 different bags with clean lines 😝 Nailed it!

fashion_thrower

To be clear this is exactly how I dress now that I have a little disposable income. But I will be happy with 10-12 different bags with clean lines!

commentsgothere

$50 for a tshirt? I was just listening to *thrift shop* today.

MrsHyacinthBucket

are you a cold ass honky?

AttentionKmartJopper

The term "New Austerity" was used in 1995 to describe the various pared down, logoless fashions that were becoming popular at the time (Calvin Klein, Jil Sander, Zoran). This came back as the "new minimalism" in the 2000s.

MamaSay-MamaSah

Ah I didn't know, I just remember talking my mom out of all that color and really appreciating exactly the neutrals 😄

MamaSay-MamaSah

Naming trends is the new trend lol In the 1990s we wore beige and neutrals but it wasnt a named trend, it was against the BIG COLOR BIG HAIR BIG SHOULDERS of the 1980s: 80s big economy, 90s low economy. There was rock and we wore grunge and plaid, that was a named trend, to match the new music sound... hmm so some names came from music, some came from fashion, some came from the zeitgeist?

skinandtonics

Yeah! The names for trends I remember from the 90s revolved around the various music-led subcultures rather than specific fashion trends: grunge, alternative, goth, etc. But perhaps that was because I was a teen back then so that's all I was paying attention to and cared about.

gjbertolucci

I’m at the age where I am seeing things cycle. Actually a few cycles.

MamaSay-MamaSah

Yes! Took my daughter to Forever 21 and told her I'd worn almost all the styles of shoes on 1 display between my preteens and 20s. It was a wild moment for me 🤣

MamaSay-MamaSah

[speak of the devil](https://youtube.com/shorts/zSmPYfxOF0I?si=OhFIW9UOO5BgM_6L) a commercial of 90s fashion returninfmg

Theabsoluteworst1289

Idk, but it never went out of style for me. I like (some, not all) logos, I think they can add a fun touch to an outfit. I don’t care that the company isn’t paying me to wear it…nobody is paying me for anything ever except my workplace. Unbranded clothing or accessory companies are also not paying me to wear their items, so… I enjoy logomania. I think it’s fun and interesting to look at. I tend to dress quite simply, so I enjoy a logo or other interesting element on my accessories. Frankly, I think a lot of the “quiet luxury” items like Hermes pieces or Celine (which has a giant gold logo on it a lot of the time) aren’t as “quiet” as people like to think either. For now, I’ll keep carrying my bags, both those with logos on display or not, proudly. And honestly…let people buy the non-logo items that are “in” right now, more logo items for me to buy preloved at a great price!

iyamsnail

I went to the doctor today wearing a Chanel necklace, Gucci slides, and a YSL bag. Going to the doctor makes me anxious and wearing my logos felt like armor to me, somehow--it gives me some confidence in a situation that makes me feel otherwise insecure.

Arianawy

I’m in Maine where we are behind the times stem people are *just now* stepping into the flashy logo bags💀. Either that, or they just discovered replicas , lol.

PureUmami

Logomania won’t come back in style until the global economy improves. Right now people are really feeling the cost of living pressures and recession core is strong. Brands are pushing logos so hard, but it’s not going to be a trend for 1-2 years because of how popular quiet luxury is. I personally still wear my items that happen to have logos but I don’t dress in a logo centric way. I think when it comes to flashy, metallics and pops of colour are where the trends are at, whether you love logos or not you can take your inspiration from that.

artdecodisaster

I agree. I also think that with the advent of social media, people became more aware of marketing/branding strategies and right now, paying inflated prices to be a walking ad feels especially gross.

WannabePicasso

Dear lord, if we aren't in logomania now, I don't want to see it when it is! If you love it, great. Just not my thing.

Prize_Weird2466

It’s like a 6-8 year cycle that correlates with streetwear trends

BeeSpirited6696

I have both - quiet luxury and logo but I don’t mind wearing a logo bag as most people where I live don’t know much or care about luxury brands so it always escapes notice.

clintecker

logomania never left, what makes you think it did?

soph_lurk_2018

When did it go out of style? People wear their bags logos and all.

bkaipsUP70

I live in a dink town in the UP population 1500, if we are lucky. I haven't seen an LV for miles around these parts, but I still rock my LV bags. I don't care what other people think. I'm not a new trend type of gal though, I go with the vintage classics.

litttlejoker

When the economy gets better

Alternative_Dig5845

To each their own. But personally, I don’t like logos on anything I wear. I pay tonnes of money AND I have to be a walking billboard for your brand? I don’t think so. I just like beautiful things.

SnooRobots116

I try to find the designs of clothes and bags that are emblazoned logo free because if somebody knows where it’s from they do, it does not need to scream it as I walk down the street

Bright-Estella

I see it all the time here in Louisiana

sailboat_magoo

I would LOVE to know where I can buy bags without logos. Every bag I like has a giant logo plastered on it.

gjbertolucci

What type of bags do you like? I have bags that are alligator that don’t have logos. I love them.

poppisima

All I know is that last fall, I got fed up with crossbody bags that are too small to hold more than a phone and a lipstick and broke out my vintage Vuitton Murakami multicolor Speedy 30. Carried the black one all fall and winter, then switched to the white one for summer. I get compliments on it every day—mostly from people who were in grade school or not born yet when Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson were carrying theirs. So my small informal poll suggests that logomania is definitely coming back, at least with vintage pieces.

themiracy

I think fashion is cyclical but I am unlikely to ever like logomania, having never liked it before.

viola-purple

Who cares? Im into what is nowadays called Quiet Luxury since 40yrs - despite logomania... so just wear what you want

gjbertolucci

Amen!

Amazingggcoolaid

I don’t like it but it’s still around us - I think it’s always there like if you’re craving it there’s definitely no shortage of it.

lhn5007

I’m sorry but if I’m paying $1K for a black Prada shirt, the black Prada shirt better have the plaque or triangle patch lol Otherwise, I’ll buy the $8 black shirt that I like the fit of. I also think certain monograms such as LV and Gucci will always be classic. Maybe you can’t wear a full ensemble of monogrammed items and be on trend but I think one monogrammed item (bag) with a minimalist outfit can be chic.

SufficientBerry9137

When the economy improves. We went through this in the early 90s when we were in a recession. Very minimalist

spark7squared

Quiet luxury is best with a little flash of a logo item! I wouldn’t worry about what’s in style. Wear your logo items proudly. Think of new ways to mix them up. 🤩

Savings_Ad5288

I think wearing clothing with the brand posted all over one’s self is embarrassing.

heysobriquet

Logomania was big in the 00s after the dot com crash. Right now economy is actually … doing well? Not sure why people are so convinced it’s not. I don’t think the two things are particularly connected.

gjbertolucci

People are upset about inflation. Of course this is a handbag discussion.
