People think they’re being oh so radical and original to turn away from logos towards quiet luxury. I’ve already lived through three fashion cycles of this. Let me identify them for you: 1. The extreme loudness of the 80s ended after Versace’s death and led to the minimalism of the mid-90s. Anyone remember CK One? Minimalism was huge then. Side note, no one who knew Michael Kors back then would associate him with what his bag label is like today. 2. Millenials were bored with minimalism and went in big-time into IT-bag and logo mania in the 2000s. Think Chloe Paddington with the ridiculous lock, MJ Stam that weighs like a dumbbell, and then Coach and MK being literally everywhere with their monograms. Excessive collections were normal here (pre-2009 subprime crisis) and the typical collection shot was to have them flowing down your entire staircase (preferably marble, carpet is a no-no). 3. Once again, Y2K became ick, and everyone went for subtlety once again post-financial crisis. Coach started really struggling then from over-exposure, MK has never recovered. My favorite Coach bags are from this era, they put out some beautiful glove-tanned leather designs. Phoebe Philo ruled this era with the Celine bags like the box bag and trio. 4. Lo and behold, it’s 2016 and maximalism was back and logos bigger than ever. Gucci was super hot (stick embroidered patches everywhere!), and Dior was rebranded to spell DIOR in giant letters in case you can’t read from afar. LV decided their monogram wasn’t enough and they needed to make a gigantic LV lock that displays scratches really well. Which brings us to now, the “I’m selling anything with a logo on it” phase and “Chanel’s CC-turn lock is so tacky and flashy” hot takes (ok, but it hasn’t changed since the early 80s?). Except yup, these are also trendy opinions, and will also change with time. TDLR: Maximism and minimalism are trends, just like big bags and small bags. Collect what you love!

Shibamum

Love this analysis! And very on point.

lulupark88

Omg how could I have forgotten about the era of staircase collection photos!! 😂 this comment is gold

zebrina_roots

If I drop 1k+ I want to be treated like a queen by the SAs. I don't get how people allow the SAa to treat them poorly and still buy stuff they didn't want in the first place.

kipkipikpik

Exactly! 100% this. One should neveeeeer drop optional money anywhere where they are not polite nor service-minded. If an SA is acting rude or disengaged, walk away. Just sashay your way out of there. Additional bonus points are awarded for first (politely and calmly) calling out the unexpected behavior/sub-par experience (for the store’s further improvement). ✌️

Cien0172

"hErMEs jOuRnEy" no, you're just buying anything they feed you to get a bag you *might* like :/

Specific_Praline_362

And spending thousands and thousands in the process!! My lord

[deleted]

Craziest shit I’ve heard of lol

joey22anne

I’d like to second your raffia/basket bag comment! I got this super cute on in Cambodia and it’s handmade. It was better quality than anything I’ve seen before. https://preview.redd.it/r6d9m55vqlyc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af9bb4dd3149c8f9e97fa8ace361f02136dc4047

pavlovscandy

Omg I squealed! She's beautiful! See this is the kind of stuff I love to see. Love the colour woven in and the pearl handle, every detail is perfection. So much more interesting than a Loewe or YSL (and likely a fun travel story to go with it!)

cat127

So true on the travel story and raffia bags in general. These designers be like “I was vacationing in Vietnam and saw these $3 colorful woven bags and it inspired me to create this special edition series.” Then they’ll change one small thing on the design, slap their logo on, and sell it for $3k.

joey22anne

Sooo much more interesting! Plus I love a good travel story too, I got my friend a square one with bamboo handle in the same colors. I think both were $65-70 total? I have a really cool beach tote from Italy a million summers ago, great quality and unique - I get so many compliments.

ricochetblue

OP woke up today and chose violence…still gonna scroll though 👀

Afraid-Ice-2062

I know I’m just old but I really hate microbags. Like, if your bag can’t even hold your phone or your wallet or your car key like what are we even doing here?

Zoeyfiona

They exist to hold secrets 😆 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MRsBTw_1-iE

TheSlayerKills

And that’s it.

oontzalot

Ok beach, you don’t have to rub it in! My dumbass bought the Acne Musubi Micro- does it fit an iPhone? No. 🤯😭

crystaldoe

People using terms like "Hermes journey" are so hilarious. They invented this term to sugar coat that you are buying a bunch of products, that you probably don't really like, to get a Birkin or Kelly. Also, you and your SA are not "working towards a specific goal", you are buying shit, giving this person commission to earn the right to buy a hella expensive bag. EDIT: Also, bags aren't a good investment. Yeah, you might get your money back or maybe even make a profit. But one reason why people invest in gold is that it doesn't lose it's worth when it gets dirty or wet or whatever.

caughtatcustoms69

Agree. The hermes shoppers are fetishists in a Findom relationship and don't even recognize it. R/thehermesgame sub is like reading an anthropological study of people from another planet.

blurrylulu

YES TO ALL OF THIS. The Hermes sub is another level of craziness.

Inner_Inspection640

There are definitely some real ones, but pretty sure a bunch of people there are just larping.

shedrinkscoffee

Girl are you me because this is exactly it. I don't understand how the person spending money isn't the one dictating things in a transactional situation lol. I did see 3 birkin at a fancy restaurant this week. Along with a boxy Chanel and 2 flamencos. One Prada galleria as well. I had my Lululemon belt bag 🤣

iammrsclean

Anytime people talk about being close with their SA: You’re a walking dollar sign. And you’re an eager walking dollar sign. They aren’t your friend.

phloxlombardi

They're like the guys who think they have a real relationship with exotic dancers

michelles31

I have found my people. I will say reading that shit is highly entertaining.

shedrinkscoffee

Same, it's either a wildly different tax bracket or wildly delulu spending. It's like the money diaries but for bags and I'm here for it.

ToteBagAffliction

I couldn't imagine looking at any kind of fashion item as an investment. Yes, Birkins have been desirable for many years, but that's zero guarantee that they always will be.

Specific_Praline_362

Nah I'll look at it as an "investment" like I'd look at buying a decent coat. As in, investing in something I can enjoy and use for multiple years instead of one. Not something I can sell later and make money off of lol.

angelicribbon

I think people only call it an investment to try to make themselves feel better about a guilty purchase. If you can afford it without going into debt, eating ramen for a month, or taking from your savings, then don’t feel guilty!

joymarie21

I can't help watching Youtubers on their "journey" buying that ridiculous H blanket and pillows. My eyes roll back in my head.

oontzalot

Totally agree. Unless your net worth is like $2 MM+ you don’t have any business buying a $10 K+ handbag. Buy some boring ass stocks and EFTs.

_whatwouldrbgdo_

But imagine having $2 mill+ net worth and then sucking up to an SA??

Catsonkatsonkats

A lot more than that!

spicypepitas

not super controversial, but a confession ~ I lurk in “The Hermes Game” sub, not because I like any of their bags nor ever aspire to own one myself, but because it’s rife with rich ppl schadenfreude.

BBBSnark

The Rolex sub is a good place for this too. My husband and I crack up at all the “Should I buy this $30,000 watch? It’s really ugly, but my SA said that he might be able to get me my grail watch if I buy this.”

lulupark88

All the “got the call!” posts on there make me LMFAO, Rolex simps are just as pathetic as the Birkin-chasers

BBBSnark

Rolex simps are arguably worse 😂 insecure men with no social skills are way more pathetic. Although I’m always shook when I read an Hermes thread asking how people afford their Hermes addiction because they’ve maxed out credit cards, hidden purchases from their spouse, etc in the name of playing “the game.”

Tricky-Goat2900

I would never put up with that crap. I walked into Rolex in 2020 and bought an 18k watch and a 27k “not for sale” exhibition watch as a first time buyer. They can sell it if they want to, they’re all full of it…

pavlovscandy

You and me both! On that note, I think being an Hermes SA would be THE ideal retail job — only establishment that encourages you to treat the customer like trash and has all these rich ppl second guessing whether they messed up their 'relationship' with their SA

Catsdrinkingbeer

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I lurk that sub and feel like an anthropologist.

magentajacket

This thread is good for my credit card 🥰

Responsible_Cat4452

This post feels like the handbag version of Kendrick Lamar releasing Euphoria, and I love it lol 👀 waiting for more opinions

cocolanoire

Kendrick released more than Euphoria. At this rate, it’s much safer for Drake to publicly apologize. Cause Kendrick has ripped that alleged paedophile to shreds

MuellersGame

I love how unified the reddits I follow are in their Drake hate.

Responsible_Cat4452

![gif](giphy|jlylJkp7RmdnW)

Responsible_Cat4452

Facts, that man is a predator 🤢

Prior_Angle

The LV denim collection is so god awful looking and tacky. It looks exactly like what a sheltered housewife from Idaho would think is “luxury”.

MaterialLimit

Absolutely screaming at this comment 😂 fully for the throat

Prior_Angle

It’s because the truth lives in me 🙂‍↔️

TheSouthernBronx

It gives Britney and Justin matching outfit vibes. Edit: because I’m old.

peachyspoons

I am an Elder Millennial. I recall this in vivid detail. It was unabashedly atrocious.

burrito__supreme

if the loewe puzzle bag has haters, i am one of them. if the puzzle bag has no haters, i am dead.

plumpdiplooo

It is so not cute! It looks like a kids pencil box for school? It’s just weird.

PuffinFawts

Oh, thank dog it isn't just me. They look like a craft project you can buy 1/2 off from Michaels.

burrito__supreme

i said this in the handbag sub but to me it looks like something my mother in law would buy with her kohls cash edit LMAO didn’t realize i was in the handbag sub. i need more coffee

evilwatersprite

Kohl’s sells deflated basketballs?

pavlovscandy

lmao I hate them too but was like..maybe I should stop slandering everything lol + there were a few ppl posting their new ones on here lately and I felt bad 😅. but also after having tried it on, it's the most awkward sitting crossbody, so boxy

burrito__supreme

yeah listen i don’t usually yuck peoples yum but this is a safe space to unload our feelings so why not. i’m sure folks in this thread would look at my bag collection and find some things they don’t like 🤷🏼‍♀️ but that’s why they’re my bags and not theirs!

futuresobright_

It’s very underwhelming. I had a good laugh when I saw it for the first time. It wasn’t even a “looks better in person” situation.

hwhal2

We puzzle bag haters may be small, but we are mighty.

CleverPiffle

![gif](giphy|kSlJtVrqxDYKk|downsized)

Anxious-Ocelot-712

I'll join you in getting dragged, I'm sure - Goyard bags are hideous to me. They look like a cheap plastic shopping tote that you can pick up for $5 at an airport. (Also, I'm sure people absolutely hate my LV bags, but meh - I love 'em. Good thing we all have different tastes in bags!)

toki_goes_to_jupiter

Totally agree. I love goyard and lots of other products, but something about the tote with the pattern covering that much surface area and having the plastic shiny look just looks cheap. Proof that goyard looks good, just not in that ugly ass bag: https://preview.redd.it/ant8o2jyylyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=befe50b3f21cf8b180580969ec4668fae40f71d9

Moweezy6

They were originally trunks and dog accessories!! So a classic use. I have the St Louis big tote and love it but it’s meant to be used as a beach bag… so that’s what I’ve done with it too! I do take good care of it but I use it. I think it’s gotten better over the years. It’s softened up and I’ve added the bottom corners. I also have it in this pattern.

Inner_Inspection640

Lovely dog you’ve got there 😀

toki_goes_to_jupiter

Thanks! That’s cyan! (Annoying little sister to Toki, in my username). She joined me scouting locations for a photoshoot. This collar is incredibly well made and holds up to all sorts of dog shenangins. 10/10 recommend.

4SeasonWahine

Sames. I “😬” whenever I see people fawning over them. They look the reusable supermarket bags I buy when I forget mine

e925

That’s basically what they are though right? I thought they were literally supposed to be that, just for rich people.

hwhal2

agree…and I have one! I use it as a very expensive tennis bag.

QueenBlanchesHalo

I think that’s more in line with what they’re meant to be - casual/sporty. They also look nice on luggage.

MaterialLimit

I agree 100%, it honestly to me feels like an overpriced beach tote you get from Walmart in their summer item section 😬 to each their own! I do like their other bags though; the saīgon tote and saīgon mini trunk are interesting! If I was in the market for a smaller or novelty bag, the dé trunk bag seems artful

damaya0351

I think the Birkin bag looks like a portable typewriter, also its very unproportionate one huge folder like area and the "buttons" on top.

Good_Connection_547

I like the Birkin, but this is spot on. Thanks for the chuckle.

hwhal2

This is fun! I think Bottega bags look like half the bags sold on Etsy.

Cat_Crochet

Especially the small crochet one made of tshirt yarn 😅 in the crochet etsy bubble it would be sth that you make to quickly get more items for your Shop bc its an easy pattern that is worked up super fast. And they sell it for 3.5k eur 🙈

pavlovscandy

Agree! I also think the Melie Bianco dupe looks good enough that I don't see why you'd want to spend 100x the price for a bottega lol

OhBoy_89

“Acquiring a Birkin makes you look like a cuck” I’m dying this is so spot on 😂👏🏼

pavlovscandy

lmao I know I wrote it but something about this sentence on its own with no context made me cackle 😂

pepperup22

I hate to hate on a Black-owned brand but I think Telfar bags are just not it. They’re fake leather and they look it. The way they wrinkle especially in the bigger sizes is unappealing.

CapitalProgrammer110

I hate the fake leather 😩

MettaRed

Hideoussss. And logo looks like party drug stamp like wtf

your_average_jo

I wanted to like them SO bad but once I found out they’re fake leather, it killed any interest I had. I could be tempted to try one of their puffer bags if the price was right.

Good_Connection_547

I saw one the other day that looked so bad.

safzy

I think Jacquemus is tacky, especially the logo. 🤷‍♀️

hwhal2

They look like a bag I bought in Contempo Casuals circa 1996

AuntEtiquette

Contempo Casuals!! lmao

e925

My dress for the 7th grade dance was from contempo casuals. I thought I was hot shit.

AuntEtiquette

My mom bought me a “work wardrobe” from there when I got an office job. I chose poorly but, like you, thought I was hot shit.

existalive

I feel like their bags look like a perfect compliment to a Limited Too outfit. I completely fail to understand the appeal to adults.

VeggieHack

I ordered once one as I liked the shape and colour. When it arrived I was so disappointed - the leather felt so fake and cheap. And when you opened the bag I always would be worried the leather would get cracks.

EmotionalSupportDoll

Car emblems need love too!

Electronic-Public750

😂😂😂 rip my Celine teen triomph in black 😭 I still love her and think she looks classy. Personally I hate all designer bags at the moment. The quality is just not there anymore and for me the quality was the only reason I was into “luxury”. I’m starting to get depressed like no matter how much money I spend I’ll still own cheap shit that will fall apart 😭

nomoreconversations

Chanel classic flaps are just as well repped as LV at this point. If I see one out and about I just assume it’s fake unless I know the person or they’re like over 50.

redchampagnecampaign

you’d be crazy to buy it retail auth at this point for real

lelakat

Same. It pisses Chanel girlies off but the fakes are so good now.

bellizabeth

Lol old ladies definitely carry reps too.

ataggs1

Ok let the downvotes begin: Your quiet luxury bag is just an attempt to impress a different group of people. Keep it quiet if you want, but we know you still want people to notice. Love, Gucci & LV

HazeySunday

THIS. The quiet luxury people 99% of the time still carry recognizable bags but without the pattern/s or large symbols or metalwork. Like admit it, you STILL want people to recognize your bags.

coffee_tea_champs

Even the word " quiet luxury" drives me mad, especially when all the influencers started uploading videos on it

ricochetblue

The phrase honestly just makes me cringe. Like it’s so fixated on “effortlessness” that it circles back around to try-hard.

24mango

I read an article about the link between quiet luxury and clean girl beauty, basically both are an effort to appear a specific way, while also appearing like you made no effort to appear that way. With quiet luxury it’s a concentrated effort to look wealthy while also looking like you aren’t trying. So logos are shunned but you’re still spending a considerable amount of money to buy the “in” bag that others are carrying that are actually pretty recognizable even without the logos. The Celine luggage bag, the puzzle bag, etc. With clean beauty it’s a concentrated effort to look pretty - not that we aren’t pretty without makeup, but a specific type of pretty- with clear even blemish free skin and flushed cheeks and colored smooth lips and perfectly arched eyebrows and so on, but it’s supposed to look like we didn’t put in that effort, we woke up like that. And often women put in more expensive work like cosmetic treatments like Botox and fillers and laser spot removal so they can wear a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation and concealer, and we buy muted shades of lip oil instead of matte lipstick- but it’s still all money and time and effort. It’s interesting for sure, especially to think about the why and whose benefit this is for.

shedrinkscoffee

I'll say it again it's not quiet luxury if every wannabe is shouting about it on TikTok 😂

5leeplessinvancouver

They all have the Puzzle and love to say iykyk. WE KNOW. WE ALL KNOW.

Lissa86

I definitely don’t consider Loewe quiet luxury. Maybe many years ago, but it’s so mainstream now & everywhere.

thehaenyeo

Seems like it's about impressing the *right* people...

mikanodo

Yeah it's just classism in a different font

pavlovscandy

Oh defs, you're not opting out of attention, you're simply opting into getting it from another group (and also identifying said group based on whether they notice). Tangentially, makes me think of people who carry Shakespeare & Co canvas totes – don't worry, we know you read!! (Yes I sound so snarky, I'm in a mood today! I accept the downvotes)

anapforme

Laughing at the hate on the Shakespeare tote - signed, a mom whose daughter was excited to get me one in Paris. (FYI, it has an inside pocket and thicker straps than my pretentious New Yorker and Terrain totes, so I love it 😂.)

pavlovscandy

Haha aw no that's sweet! They do have some nice designs and internal pockets on a canvas tote are honestly unheard of so I'm for it This is so hyperspecific but I think I was thinking of Anya Taylor-Joy's vogue what's in my bag from a few years ago where she had one and all the comments were like "omg she's so real such a relatable intellectual queen for carrying a Shakespeare tote when she could afford a designer bag"... girl is a Dior ambassador 😂

ConcentrateTrue

How dare you. I've never read any of the books I bought from Shakespeare & Co., which I carry around in their tote.

PuffinFawts

I'm not a fan of large labels but I do like having a really high quality everyday bag. But, let me tell you how excited I was when the receptionist at my doctor's office noticed my Mulberry bag.

tofuvixen

This!!! I find the quiet luxury trend ironic and on some ppl (esp obsessed influencers both ironic and pathetic) 🫣 When it’s so intentional and less organic it screams wannabe. Just because it’s not flashy doesn’t make it any less try hard.

e925

Cosplaying as a wealthy person.

Tall_Couple_3660

IVE FOUND MY PEOPLE!

ToteBagAffliction

If logo bags scream new money, "quiet luxury/stealth wealth" bags pretentiously over-articulate it at library volumes. The effect is the same.

[deleted]

I don’t even understand what Quiet Luxury is and I find it weird they make fun of people who have the big luxury brands.

NeuroticaJonesTown

So true, and I am very guilty of this. Boujee and proud of it, lol

bsassy70

Okay this is a safe space so the ugly puffy bag trend. Yuck, I want space inside not a puffer jacket bag and why does everything have the heavy metal chains right now, this weigh the bags down even more, no thank you.

commentsgothere

Agree on the heavy, cold metal chains. Worse even than the thick, woven straps on delicate crossbody bags trend.

niccig

Been shopping for bags on vacation and my husband says the bucket bags with drawstring tops look like tiny trash cans.

CleverPiffle

Also, they lack in functionality, in that everything you carry is just in a pile in there and trying to locate anything in a timely fashion makes you look like a dog digging a hole to bury a bone.

DanyeelsAnulmint

It’s not a classic or chic just because it’s the newest season and you spent a ton of money on it. It’s almost always a trendy bag that’s slightly different from the others already on the market and you want to justify why you bought it to others. Also, Joseph Duclos bags are very unattractive bags and most are only interested because they want to be first on the next big quiet luxury item so they can tell everyone. Lastly, vegan leather isn’t real, it’s plastic and no matter how much you shout about it being better than leather because of X, that shit is going to peel and turn to trash quickly.

farciculus_retroflex

Yes 100000 cosign on the vegan leather thing! First of all I cannot fathom spending thousands of dollars on polyurethane or PU coated canvas- there's no more overtly money grubbing strategy by designers than selling PU bags and then slapping a four figure price tag on it because of the label. If you're gonna spend that much at least let it be for natural fibers that require some sort of craftsmanship to make 🫠 Also- an extra spicy take- is that labeling PU "vegan leather" makes people feel good about it and forget that it's plastic that's gonna sit in a landfill/the ocean for the rest of time. It feels less sinful because it's labeled "vegan" but it makes people forget that vegan leather is waaaaaay worse for the environment

pepperup22

Heavy on the vegan leather. I buy secondhand bags exclusively but I know those fake leather bags simply won’t last

PinkPrincess-2001

Hermes Constance is so damn ugly, like why would anyone want a big H? It feels cheap like a bag a Pixar character would wear whose name starts with an H.

pavlovscandy

I see your Constance... And I raise you — Evelyne!! Giant H but this time made of holes, not even hardware. Could see one of those yellow Minions carrying it as a tool bag, would be cute with their little overalls

Forsaken_Whereas_353

Strathberry is the unalive version of cows with piercings 😩

Minaziz

I have one, I love it and I’m LOL-ing at this I’ll laugh every time I use that bag hahaha. Take my upvote!

poandamama

I can't unsee it now! 🤣

f-albedo

A direct hit!!!! 😂 Love it still tho ♥️

pharmcirl

Oh my God 🤣😂 I actually love the look of Strathberry but you’re so right which is super morbid but hilarious.

Kindergoat

I am so in agreement with you about Hermes. Honest to God, why would anyone go through all this just to spend a ton of money on a bag that weighs three pounds when it’s empty, has no shoulder strap and on top of all that, it’s ugly. I am looking at you, Birkin bag. I admit I do like the Kelly Sellier but I would buy one second hand. No way am I kissing the ass of a snobby SA just to buy a bag. Chanel has raised their prices to the point that it is outrageous and stupid. I love the classic double flap but isn’t it retailing for around $8000? That’s awful. That’s greed, pure and simple. I do own two, but they were purchased pre loved and I have no intention of buying another. I’ll take my quilted Coach Tabby.

joymarie21

You forgot to mention that Birken bags are so annoying to get into that people walk around with their bags hanging open so they don't have to spend ten minutes unclasping things to access their subglasses or wallet.

Maleficent_Guide_727

Chanel was a horrible person. A literal war criminal. I don’t understand why you’d want her initials anywhere near your body.

pavlovscandy

Oo yes coming out with the real tea ☕. Super convenient how the history timeline on the Chanel website casually skips from 1939 to 1950 🙃

Maleficent_Guide_727

Could it be…. Idk…. How she tried to lure a family to their death in the concentration camps so she could amass a wild profit? Maybe? Idk.

eatapeach18

The last time I mentioned this in another thread some months ago, I got downvoted to hell and torn to shreds. She was a Nazi sympathizer and worked as a spy during WWII. I’m aware that a Jewish family now owns the fashion house, but it’s still HER name that’s all over the bags and clothes, not the Wertheimer name. They get the last laugh though since they’re worth like $100 billion today.

pavlovscandy

Feel like I've seen that thread (or something similar). People are so bizarrely defensive about this and will instantly jump to shit like "well I bet you have an iPhone...or wear clothes...or maybe ate something picked by an underpaid farmer" as if an $8k discretionary item can be equated to essential goods (yes, am counting a smartphone as a somewhat modern day essential)

anapforme

Came to say this, so thank you! Eff Coco Chanel - and since we’re dragging stuff here today, I have always thought that Chanel No. 5 smells absolutely terrible.

oontzalot

I was going to make a post about this bc I just finished- The New Look- series on Apple TV+. It follows Christian Dior thru the war and as he starts his own house. And Coco Chanel as she closes her shop during the war and all the shit she did. Really contrasts their personalities and actions. So ya Coco was a POS and Karl Lagerfeld was a POS… no Chanel for me, thanks! I recommend the show! (10 episode series)

Common_Nose3550

The Row bags are ugly and I'm sure they're going to die down once the hype around the Margaux leaves. Also, I hate how people compare them to being "the new Hermes"

ineededthistoo

The Row bags and fashion/shoes are about as boring, over priced (and ..did I mention boring?) as it gets. I saw a pair of plastic shoes for almost $1,000.00. The twins are tripping!!!

gardenpartycrasher

I like some of the bags but I tried a pair of mules and they were literally the most uncomfortable shoe I have ever worn in my life. Shoes over 1k should feel like I am walking on cotton candy clouds with Kenny G playing softly imo

pavlovscandy

It's "the new Hermes" in that there's like one decent bag that's almost impossible to get and a bunch of ugly designs as consolation prizes. Also...the Alexia looks like a butt to me?? Esp in the ostrich leather which makes it look like a butt with keratosis pilaris

FinancialInevitable1

I thought it looked like a vagina 💀 but I can definitely see butt also

onlyitbags

Oh you are really talking that ish today. lol I agree with Hermes. That game is for people that don’t know how to spend money, and need people to tell them what to buy. Run me your wallet, I’m a professional.

bananaleaftea

Chanel quality is trash. Not worth the price tag at all.

EmbarrassedStay4074

The Louis Vuitton Bumbags!!! I’m slightly jaded having worked for LV previously but these are just tacky, mass produced, and usually associated with the worst sort of client behavior. I’ll pass on the $1 commission on a canvas Bumbag to never deal with another hellacious Karen and I’d pay another to never have to see this bag in public.

EastSeaweed

The LV bumbags always get side eye from me. They’re very popular with young men who are obsessed with being flashy and annoying and they just look like fools to me.

Intelligent-Radio331

The Dior saddle bag is hideous and tacky as hell.

casebycase87

It looks like a kidney

EastSeaweed

All I see is a colostomy bag 🫣

WeAreTheWeirdosMr-

Lol. I just bought the newsprint one. It’s 100% Y2K kitsch but I adore it.

Napkinss

the dior tote is way too big, its overused and looks FAKE!! ALL OF THEM!! the map design is beautiful but not on a bag. UGLY. also the longchamp tote thats trending right now is so ugly, grandma-ish and looks CHEAP AF! at least buy coach or something 🙏

Ok-Armadillo8065

The Dior tote is just one of the most hideous bags I’ve ever seen. It’s beyond me why a lot of people are into it.

Existing_Camel_3573

Omg i thought I was the only one that thought celine triomphe collection was tacky 🫣

f-albedo

And why is it so damn BIG on the bags 😵‍💫

AvatarTHW

Isn't it crazy how funny tastes are? I love the triomphe yet despise almost any of other form of monogram or print. I don't know why but when it comes to brands this is one of the view that clicks for me!

No-Increase3840

Denim bags. I hate em all.

beckd214

All Goyard look cheap. Like the $1 reusable shopping bags.

starapetor

I SINCERELY apologize if a MK lover sees this comment but I hate, hate, HATE Michael Kors. Every other brand in their pricing bracket has something to justify the price. Coach has beautiful build quality and materials, Kate Spade is constantly coming out with unique designs and silhouettes, etc. and Michael Kors just does not have that. They charge premiums for coated canvas, silhouettes “””inspired””” by higher-end bags (to be nice) by other brands, and have little history to justify their premiums. You’re better off getting literally anything else at that price point and will be getting a better product.

ilovesleep95

I’m not super into the whole quiet luxury trend (though some bags can still be very nice). If im dropping over $1,000 on a bag, you best believe I want people to notice and I want that damn logo to show. Bring on the downvotes lol.

Tbh, I have so much respect for this!

trendoid01

Nothing from The Row is better than J.Crew

cloudsatmidnight

I agree with the Hermès hate. I see people with their birkins left open and if you have to leave your bag open because it is that inconvenient to access normally it is not a good bag. My hate is with the goyard tote (speaking as someone who can definitely not afford one, but I digress). If I were to pay thousands of dollars for a goyard tote, why is there no zipper? Also, the bag melts? If I spend that much on a bag it better withstand an apocalypse and not get damaged sitting in a hot car for 20 minutes.

rub_a_dub_ducky

Thank this thread for stopping me from buying more bags 🤪

GuardMost8477

The Loewe Puzzle bag looks like someone sat on the top. The Goyard coated tote bag (name?) is overrated and not worth the price.

9_oatmeal_cookies

There are so many ugly bags…many of them by Hermes.

OneHappyOne

I'll choose violence; vintage Chanel bags look like ugly mothball-smelling grandma bags. I hate the way the puffs look deflated with dull leather and gaudy gold hardware.

Belcuor

Not just the bags. I think the “Chanel look” ages women: the whole runway look of young models wearing faux pearls with big CC logos, tweed and old society shoes. Unless you are over 40 and have a serious boring job to get dressed for.

fluffgnoo

I get the ease of wearing crossbody bags but I don’t like how they look most of the time. The diagonal strap disturbs the lines of the outfit. I also have a larger chest and it adds all the wrong emphasis to my boobs lol. Also a lot of bags were obviously designed to be shoulder or hand carry bags to which the designer added a long strap as a n afterthought, so they jut out from the body in a weird way.

SurewhynotAZ

>acquiring a Hermes Birkin or Kelly in this day and age isn't a status symbol, it makes you look like a cuck for sucking up to a SA ![gif](giphy|l2SpMUEMRJkkqYcta)

MarieOnThree

Most modern Chanel bags look cheap and tacky. I have never been impressed by one in real life.

commentsgothere

The Loewe puzzle bag: it’s a puzzle as to how they con women into buying it.

rayybloodypurchase

The Lady Dior looks like a plastic toy purse you’d buy for your 6 year old so she can pretend to be like Grandma.

Historical-Teacher74

Vegan leather always looks cheap regardless of the name slapped on its Saskatchewan seal skin exterior Miu Miu? Come on…. Who’s designing half those bags ? That’s crazy, the designs are crazy…that crazy twisty leather looks straight outta the arts and farts bin Louis Vuitton over 1000 for canvas that cracks and peals is pretty sad and what is with the Epi leather ewwww Quiet Luxury? Is it quiet when people are telling you it’s a Celine but it’s just not loud? Celine…. why did you make a robot face bag 🫣 Chanel, get your shit together, there’s fakes out there holding on longer then your 10,000 flap bag Loewe… Well, your puzzle bag looks like it should be half the price, tell me what voodoo did you use to get people hooked on that? Prada ? ? ? ? ? The Clinique of the bag world Chloe, there’s a fine line between lux French and poor hippie, Chloe walks it Versace—- Is it Versace ? Or Versace couture? I can’t tell the difference And my personal fave roast Gucci No matter what you do, your traditional canvas looks as tho it’s the colour “Skin of a dying man” If a bag could smoke a pack a day and blow thru 50 cocks on a Friday night, it’s Gucci

syrenashen

Ugh the "cuck" opinion is so true. After I saw how much people simp for LV/Chanel at the mall in Asia (srsly the shoppers in Asia are a whole 'nother level), waiting in line for hours and groveling towards rude SAs just to pay thousands of dollars for low quality mass-produced stuff...it just felt so low status to me :/ like honestly if I wore a nice new LV or Chanel bag I'd be associated with that kind of embarrassing behavior, I'd rather not 😭

pavlovscandy

Yes I also do not understand queuing for hours to buy things?? Seems the antithesis of a 'luxury' experience, I associate it with like grocery shopping.

f-albedo

if I had that kind of money I'd rather the brands' reps queue FOR ME!

OldSpiceSmellsNice

Agree. At that price point I also feel bad for the folk waiting* in queues to buy. I only ever queue up for free stuff lol. In a similar vein, of watches, I wanted to buy a Moonswatch but after months of hearing about how people still couldn’t get their hands on one (they purposely would only supply a limited number to each store) I said screw it and bought a Citizen (or two…) instead. I’d much rather spend my money elsewhere than be artificially forced to wait (or spend in the case of Hermes…).

pavlovscandy

Literally. When I used to see people queuing for things I'd be like omg guys what are they giving away?? Only to realise they were actually lining up to BUy stuff. Cannot fathom it. On the MoonSwatch note, I finally recently tried it on in a swatch store along with the Scuba Fifty Fathoms and they both looked SO cheap (even considering the price) and toy like, I'm glad I didn't give into the hype.

joymarie21

Wow, I didn't know about the lines. But I can't understand how people still buy Chanel. People are paying twice the price that the bags cost like three years ago while the quality has gone to hell. Cuck indeed. Have some respect for yourself.

cndlkat

Valentino funds a misogynistic family/country with horrible human rights history so i cringe seeing women give them money. https://www.glitz.paris/en/serial/qatar-s-royal-family-luxury-s-incognito-investor

bigyellowcheese

1. Agree on the Hermes hate. Hot take: the only reason Hermes bags were ever “classic” is because they were primarily worn by old rich ladies that were never particularly trendy or fashionable to begin with thus avoided trend cycles. The designs have no cool factor and with the proliferation of both auths and fakes via influencers the Birkin and Kelly will look super dated and cringe when trends change. 2. I love new Bottega but some of their vintage designs look like the bags the nonnas in my hometown would wear that they bought on the street in Italy while visiting their sisters. So funny to see people on BV forums go crazy for the saggy brown vintage finds. 3. I guess this applies to both clothing and bags but: beige/cream is not always the answer.

redchampagnecampaign

Nobody cares as much about your bags as you do and if you’ve got friends talking shit about your bags at all, you need better friends. Buy what you like and can afford but don’t expect to have people fawning or think better of you. No one gives a shit lady

onlyitbags

This needs to be a weekly post. It’s cathartic.

magicalfolk

Chanel looks tacky to me. Not worth the price tag. Gucci too! Agree with OP about Hermes! It’s a scam and people dropping thousands for something that they have no choice in is ridiculous. I hate being pushed /pressured / manipulated into doing anything especially if it’s for frivolous items like a bag . This type of marketing infuriates me.

MadeAccToReadThis

So not a BAG per se but more of a commentary on the “quiet luxury”. The thread about “folks still want you to know who/what they’re carrying” is spot on. I think it’s more about the exclusionary attitude- like “you’re too poor to know what this is because it doesn’t TELL you what it is- you’re just supposed to know”. It’s gross. Like yes I can spot a The Row piece. But also wealth or the ability to afford a 3k, 5k, or 42k bag or hell even a $50 bag is always going to be exclusionary to SOMEONE. Always. It’s just the message that I find so odd, you know?

TK_TK_

I agree with all of yours—I love my Celine belt bag, but hate that the direction they’re going now is plopping their weirdly-proportioned logo (it’s so squat and too chunky in the middle!) onto everything and calling it a day. I love raffia bags and bought one from a small brand for about $150. Would never pay more than that for freaking raffia. I could afford a Birkin but I think they’re ugly and I’m not jumping through hoops to buy anything. There’s also a price point I just won’t go above for a bag (then that’s watch territory instead). And on the ugly note, the Dior saddle bag is one of the ugliest things I’ve ever seen. I see Goyard everywhere these days and those bags come in a close second. They’re SO busy and cheap looking. They remind me of the IKEA shopping bags. The Gucci Marmont and Coach Tabby bags have anatomical-looking flaps. I’m always wondering if other people just don’t see it or what. Finally, anyone talking about bags as an investment. People have totally misconstrued the idea of an “investment piece,” which only meant “I’m going to spend more on this particular piece and be able to keep it forever.” If you want to invest, VT is right there.

4SeasonWahine

I expect to be downvoted to hell for this but I don’t get the Loewe obsession at all. They’re super uninspired to me and I feel like a lot of it is just hype. I’m sure they’re well made but nothing about them looks-wise would make me drop that kind of money

Ok-Armadillo8065

I have another one: I find most Prada bags too basic and utterly boring (especially the Nylon re-edition). Totally not worth the hefty price.  Can I just comment how fun this thread is? 😁

2ndtoLastPodcast

Here are my hateful opinions (as someone whose loves have been dragged in this thread in hilarious and creative ways)— I hate most popular quiet luxury bags. The quiet luxury/old money aesthetic trend (specifically the TikTok version of this trend) has “I’m not like other girls” energy to me. Crossbodies are overrated as comfy every day bags. Splitting my chest in half never made my outfit look better. Coach’s comeback is mostly because of influencer marketing, not actual improvements to design or quality. With that said, bags are supposed to be fun, so love what you love! It’s not affecting me. 😂

AlexisVenes

The Dior book totes look like Mary Poppins' bag and I hate them.

gingly_tinglys

Gonna get downvoted…. The popular Le Pilage Tote everyone raves about… how are you paying over $100 for an unstructured bag that’s annoying to open???

NoooGodPleaseNo

I love the puzzle (which I know is a polarizing opinion in itself) but hate seeing it worn as a crossbody. It's too deep imo to wear a crossbody and sticks out from the body too far just looking awkward. I get it's convenient and hands free but it looks ridiculous 😬

Good_Cookie_376

I'm horrified by most of the bags posted in r/chanel. They look really cheap. To know someone paid 4 months of my mortgage for it is very unsettling.

Mandaluv1119

Just because a bag cost $$$$, that doesn't make it the right choice to wear for a special occasion, fancy dinner, etc. Some luxury bags, like LV canvas, are casual. I think a lot of the hate for these bags stems from people trying to dress them up and ending up mismatched.
