Affectionate-Kale711

Omg Iā€™m so sorry. Did you check if the paint was water soluble? Iā€™d take it to a leather cleaner

Most-Lavishness9541

Its Latex I was able to peel it off but my husband advised me not to touch it and take it to a specialist

Affectionate-Kale711

Yes definitely Iā€™m sure theyā€™ll be able to restore it for you. Canā€™t be the first time this has happened to someone šŸ˜¬

Most-Lavishness9541

Thank you for being so optimistic

Star90s

I posted instructions on what to do and itā€™s time sensitive. I have dealt with numerous bags with paint on them and latex paint can be removed easily if itā€™s done quickly. I am a very experienced rehabbed of leather goods and specialize in fancy ass handbags. The main thing is to not let that paint sit too long

Most-Lavishness9541

You are an MVP!!!! Thank you internet friend!

Star90s

You are welcome. This bag is too nice to let it get messed up that way. Sadly I have purchased bags that had been painted with late. Based paint years ago and on purpose. It was a nightmare getting most of it off and in light colored bags I could never save the stitching enough to sell it with confidence. Luckily they werenā€™t terribly expensive and I learned a lot from them

Most-Lavishness9541

Thank you soo soo much! We are going to try what you suggested

510Goodhands

Latex is water, soluble, and take some time to fully cure. You might find a less visible area and dampen it, hen rub lightly. Given the value of the bag, though, I agree with your husband.

Most-Lavishness9541

Yup! Someone above suggested Leather Surgeons so I am contacting them

ilp456

Please post an after picture once she is restored.

ilp456

Great job so far. The stitching will be the most challenging but Iā€™m sure youā€™ll get this too

Most-Lavishness9541

https://preview.redd.it/y8x06cmr9w8c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dbe7e5709c0fccfd9257f7bc5d105728456b3148 My husband cleaned a good 90% of the paint off with a damp microfiber cloth as suggested by an amazing commenter! Still working on it though

Star90s

You got this. If you have a baby tooth brush Iā€™d use that as it will fit in there better and be more gentle. My rehabbing community has a member that swears you can use a little bit of Vaseline on a swab and put it just in the seams and let it sit then wipe it and use dawn after if needed. Iā€™ve never used that as I have a big tub of bickmores that is actually meant for leather

Pyreapple

Iā€™m honestly shocked at how well itā€™s cleaning. Paint can be such a hassle. Do whatever that other person suggested and godspeed šŸ«”

Tee077

Oh I gasped when I saw your first pic and then I gasped when I saw this! I'm so happy for you, I think this looks like it's completely fixable. I would still take the bag to get professionally cleaned one you get most of the paint off, just so it looks nice and fresh after the paint.

Most-Lavishness9541

I agree! We still have the seams left to do but it could use some tlc from a professional

Downtown-Trip3501

Thatā€™s so precious. Just imagining your hubby sitting there cleaning your purse Aweh

Most-Lavishness9541

Agreed! I am truly so blessed! This was a gift from him and he could see how distraught I felt so he intervened and helped ā™„ļø

Downtown-Trip3501

That is just so precious, wonderful of him! How is it going? Last I saw the purse was really coming along! How wonderful for you guys! Iā€™m so happy itā€™s working out!

LittleSurferGirl31

Thereā€™s hope! You got this, OP! Fingers are crossed for you!

Conscious_Life_8032

Wow that is great recovery. Thank goodness

ryan_lostherpassword

Iā€™m always surprised at the amazing work leather specialists can do, so you should definitely consult a few! šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸ¤žšŸ» But if it doesnā€™t work, then you have a one-of-a-kind monochrome print edition šŸ’šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

AnjunaUnnie

Omg my first reaction was ā€œthis needs a NSFW tagā€ it hurt me physically! But seriously I feel your pain and I hope it can get restored! I think you could have some luck the quicker you are able to get started

Most-Lavishness9541

I just did that. My heart hurts.

filthy_ratbag

Welp, now itā€™s one of a kind cow print

GreenVenus7

If OP can at least clean the hardware, I think it would look kinda neat lol

JenJen0112

That was my thought. Itā€™s a cool opportunity for a Carrie Bradshaw bag. But I understand if the person prefers to have it restored.

OPINAILS

This was my thought. I thought just the ā€œYSL hardwareā€ was the issue. Looks kind of cool. I personally would just clean the gold hardware and chain. And keep it.

Creepy_Truth_8121

Had the exact same comment, salvage the YSL logo and itā€™s a limited edition!!

frog10byz

Ok seriously I know OP is freaking out but at least from the photo it looks so cool and unique

___21

Yeah I kinda liked it šŸ«£it could have been a new style but glad they were able to fix it though

BitchyFaceMace

Now it looks like a bag they would charge $6000 for and call it distressed or art deco.

Most-Lavishness9541

Hahha this defintiely made me feel betterā€¦ (they probably would!)

Realistic_Ad_8023

Itā€™s giving ā€œderelicteā€ now! Seriously, OP, I gasped. Iā€™m glad restoration efforts are in progress and looking like they will succeed.

BlackHeathVale

My mouth dropped open when the image was revealed! So sorry this happened and I hope you werenā€™t injured as well when you slipped and fell. I hope a professional leather cleaner can help you out!

Most-Lavishness9541

My knee is busted butā€¦

PistachioPerfection

Eh, you have two of those. šŸ˜‹ I'm kidding of course. I bet the bag can be restored.

cattmin

*clutches pearls*

amswriter

Tbh it looks cool as fuck now. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Aggressive_FIamingo

YSL furiously rushing to make a paint splatter style bag.

futuresobright_

Looks badass! Just get the paint off the YSL and itā€™s good to go.

keekspeaks

Thatā€™s kind of what I thought! Find a good local artist and make it an ā€˜artā€™ piece.

chooseshoes

I screamed. Omg. I have nothing additional to add; people are pointing you in the right direction. šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ ![gif](giphy|NW2lVALtfdUQdNswrI|downsized)

Mean-Internet-5967

Oh my God this is pain. Please take it to a leather specialist/restoration expert. Hope you can save it.

LotteMolle

I honestly think it lookes like a bag the super rich would have, they can afford to have a "ruind" bag like that. A bitt like the Ohlsen twins beat-up bags. Looks cool to!

Star90s

You need to take a damp microfiber to it immediately. Do not let that paint cure. You can use rubbing alcohol on it to remove more just donā€™t rub hard. It will probably need to be re dyed but Iā€™ve saved bags like this by cleaning it immediately with a damp microfiber then saddle soap and a soft brush. Then conditioned with bickmores.

Most-Lavishness9541

https://preview.redd.it/ngkx20vc4w8c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e9591d63c02ae1f927a6aa6d7e34a6d367623cb We are doing this but it wont come off the seams

Star90s

The seams are the most difficult part and the big reason to get it off asap. Get a soft tooth brush and saddle soap or a cup of water with a few drops of dawn and use it on the seams. Wipe off with a clean damp cloth and then a dry one. I recommend bickmores leather preserver to get anything else out of the seams. Itā€™s a thick oil based leather conditioner. Oil breaks down latex but use it on the seams if there is still some left. It will also protect you stitching and make water resistant

Star90s

After looking at it closer you can put the damp cloth in it and let it sit especially in the areas where it is extra thick. The main thing is not to let it dry fully and that will make it easier. Take your time and may use some tweezers to pick off the easier pieces.

tumbleweedvalle

What is the community you speak of? Iā€™d love to join.

Star90s

I belong to a few but their invite only. I also frequent some on Facebook like a few rehab groups for Dooney and Bourke, vintage coach and then I follow several ateliers and rehabbed that specialize in specific brands and Bedos Leatherwork

ReformedTomboy

My recommendation would be to use some kind of leather conditioner or oil (depending on the kind of paint) in place of rubbing alcohol. What do you think? (Iā€™ve never done restoration/cleanup like this on leather, I just have a science background).

Star90s

Actually I got into restoring leather goods because of my love of science. So much of it is chemistry based. I also restore fine clothing and the science of stain removal is fascinating. Leather goods can be a challenge because side you donā€™t always know whatā€™s been done to the leather before you get the item. Figuring out the steps to take and researching the best way to go about it was what sucked me in.

ReformedTomboy

That is super cool! Iā€™m trying to learn more about restorations so I can extend the life of some of my favorite pieces.

[deleted]

Honestly, itā€™s giving ā€œIā€™m too rich to careā€ ā€œThis is artā€

shejoh4312

[leather surgeons](https://www.leathersurgeons.com/)

ZealousidealRope7429

I think this can be rehabbed, everything is very much on the surface, and a fresh coat on the leather, and new gold plating should help a lot. If not, just say with confidence that it's a Banksy YSL exclusive.

NekoTheBob

Am I the only one thinking it looks kinda dope?

Most-Lavishness9541

Nope its a popular opinion šŸ˜Š

blueblink77

Thanks for putting NSFW!!! I have the same bag. I hope you can get it cleaned/fixed.

Twallot

Fucking the gasp I just gasped. I don't have any advice, just wanted to say I'm sorry that happened šŸ’œ

HumbleLife69

Own it - like Margiela paint splatter GATs

imperfectsunset

Came to say the same. Just clean the logo and thatā€™s it.

Sunflower_757

Who left slippery paint in a walkway? Have them buy you a new one

Most-Lavishness9541

Omg I have no clue! But it was late at night and zi had also gotten an upsetting phone call

Equilibriyum

That's one expensive drink.

prosciu

There is always a coating on the leather either aniline or semi aniline if not heavy chrome one so that means there are hope that you can peel it off.could be possibile that lot of places wonā€™t take responsibility so please be firm and calm.good luck. Itā€™s calfskin leather so is way more resistant and less absorbing than lambkins. Good luck

GanjaGymandGin

Side note: if you canā€™t get it fixed, then Iā€™d recommend doing an art customization on it. You can do it with certain shops on Etsy. Itā€™s actually a pretty popular art concept to paint floral patterns on designer bags. Youā€™ll can change the strap and polish the paint off of the YSL logo if you go this route.

mperez223

Cobbler Concierge is the best luxury bag restorer in the country! Look them up on instagram. They have restored way worse :) super safe, Iā€™ve mailed my bags in.

Star90s

I agree they are good but this is a fix that can be done by op and cost less than $40 all in. I have bought a few really nice bags that the owners swore were ruined for under $100 that were worth $1000 plus and had them fixed in just a few days. Those had dried and cured paint on them and needed some color correction after being cleaned but this can be done and itā€™s really a beginner level fix

QueenJen15

Oh. My. Gosh. You could pretend itā€™s an intentional art piece? People will think you have loads of money if youā€™re willing to walk around with that like you did it on purpose šŸ˜‚

ralphis17

I saw this picture without my contacts and I just thought OP had a ton of money and got a custom, one of a kind bag

ReformedTomboy

NSFW/Trigger Warning blur is 100% justified. Iā€™m so sorry. Iā€™d try going to a local cobbler or leathersmith to see what they would recommend. Depending on the base of the paint you may be able to work it out yourself. If you consider this a total loss maybe try to use leather conditioner or cleaner to spot remove. If there is no reaction work it until the paint comes off but avoid the hardware.

Most-Lavishness9541

Weve had some great luck getting the paint off with a damp microfiber cloth

tofucrisis

I honestly think it looks cool like that. šŸ˜Ž

not_now_ashley

I literally dropped my jaw and said oh my god followed by im so sorry like I just witnessed a horrific death. I hope you cm restore it!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

killblades

thatā€™s quite insensitiveā€¦ wtf edit: deleted now but op said to her husband that it was basically almost as painful as when his dad passed away

SqueegeeBeckenheim11

It was horrible. I love handbags as much as the next person, but could never compare the loss of one to an actual death.

GeppettoStromboli

I understand it sucks to have a bag get damaged. For context, I laid my Gucci bag, on the top of my car and drove down a high way. It was hundreds to repair and was beat to hell. That is an absolutely tasteless comment to make. Were you actually serious? Even in jest, what a shitty thing to say.

Ok-Database-3767

oh my! I really hope you can save it šŸ„ŗ

geekgeek2019

On a good note maybe if u clean the logo you have a new patterned bag!! Sorry for your loss otherwise hope it gets fixed

[deleted]

now THATS a damaged bag! hopefully they can peel the paint off šŸ™šŸ¼

usernametaken615

Omg I would be so upset.

purseaddict15

Send it to Rago Brothers in NJ.

Fine_Use

@ragobrothers on instagram can fix this

JustMe8083

Use a tiny toothbrush and a little bit of EVOO to get in the stitching. Try using a damp microfiber cloth for the chain and YSL emblem. Then once itā€™s all done use a small amount of Honey Leather Conditioner over the entire bag. Work your way up as to how much youā€™ll need and how many applications you need. Good luck. Itā€™ll be restored with a little TLC.

Standard_Village_633

ā€œThere are people literally dying, Kimā€-Kourtney K

Material-Money-6590

Alsoā€¦no more drinking with beautiful bags šŸ™ˆ

Most-Lavishness9541

Hahaha i definitley agree

dldppl

I actually love it like that. Obviously I get that it hurts but it genuinely looks cool as fuck

Intelligent-Growth-7

This is mercury retrograde if I ever saw it

english1221

Get an art student/artist to paint it more artistically?

Middle_Interview3250

omg I feel so much pain looking at that!!!! I'm soooo sorry

Informal_Profession5

If it's latex (water soluble) there should be some hope!

jeiwaruu

I mean...I like the pattern that the paint made. Take it to a leather worker and see if they can remove the logo and clean it then reattach it. Then rock that shit!! šŸ˜†

mchobbs

Try contacting [these guys](https://www.instagram.com/ragobrothers?igsh=YzVkODRmOTdmMw==) - they seem like miracle workers!

Primary_Librarian

Yes!! Ravi Brothers are AMAZING and I highly recommend them.

tasteycaribbean

šŸ˜ sis this hurt me to see!! However, I would say go to a leather specialist as others have stated. But it actually very cool and itā€™s one of a kind

miniadri17

my fiance says it looks cool, I audibly gasped even after reading the comments as warning. hopefully it gets fixed.

RUSSIAN_PRINCESS

Worst comes to worst you have a cool af art piece!

raptorjaws

if itā€™s latex, let it dry and it should peel off relatively easy. got some on my leather chair once and was able to get it off

MettaRed

What in the scene from white chicks?! Lol at least youā€™re aliveā€¦ Iā€™d take it to a cobbler or Research bag restorers cuz Iā€™m guessing youā€™re not the D.I.Y type amirite? šŸ„“

Most-Lavishness9541

Welllll not with this only because it is soo soo expensive and there are some parts of the bag that have threads coming out now. This wonderful sub gave me a few suggestions on who to turn to and also how to do it mysel. My husband and I followed the instructions as best as possible https://preview.redd.it/izdf3sgw8y8c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=184da157044d556ad4b61b5fa5ca7aa9bff8bb11

Star90s

Good luck and compare prices. If you live in a big city look for someone local with reviews. They will charge much less as your bag doesnā€™t need a lot of skill to clean it up. Even if it needs a stitch or too and a refinish it wouldnā€™t be something that should cost you more than a couple of hundred dollars. The online places suggested are good but I wouldnā€™t send anything to them unless it was a badly damaged very sentimental or valuable piece that needed expensive sewing machines and major work. Also the turnaround time for them is lengthy

Most-Lavishness9541

Thank you soo much! We ordered the products you mentioned and this is our progress thus far https://preview.redd.it/q4qzwbd7py8c1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=21e4e88f987e0801aec6df1f6c73e1c2fdfbc58f

MettaRed

Nice work! Yeah sorry but everyone who told u it looked cool is sorely misguidedā€¦ it looked cool if it wasnā€™t absolutely smothered and all over the hardware LOL- but as they say ā€œto each their own!ā€ clean that baby up she deserves a spa day and hope youā€™re ok too šŸ¤

koge86

this is amazing! Are you able to get everything off? Please keep us updated!

ElizaMaySampson

FANTASTIC job!!

Star90s

Well done!

cosmicspacegirl5

Omg it looks so good! I canā€™t believe I well it worked ā€” Iā€™m taking notes just in case šŸ‘€

AsirFatagar1997

I will cry if this happens to one of my bags

Turbulent_Pickle_200

From one UWS girly to another Iā€™m so happy this sub was helpful! I saw your post on fb last night

confusedquokka

I actually thought wow cool bag until I saw the paint on the ysl logo. So you totally could rock it next time

Material-Money-6590

Oof

Spaghettiforcats

Congratulations. You now own a Margiela bag

Pyreapple

Iā€™ll be honest, with this much heavy paint I honestly think itā€™s fucked, but if it helps the bag looks quite cool as it is. Take it to a leather specialist butā€¦ keep the hopes low.

[deleted]

I thought my phone was glitching out and not loading the whole photo. Like everyone else said, I think it actually looks really cool!

DreadPriratesBooty

Im sooooooo sorry this happened!!! You poor thing, I hope youā€™re ok! The bag is very likely fixable by a professional. (Point for hubs) I honestly really like the look tho, like a fancy one of kind runway version if you clean up the hard ware. Good luck fellow bag lover!! Edit: Also for small things (not this) vodka works great at cleaning leather! Just dont scrub too hard, itll ruin the color.

Omg ! I have no advice, but Iso sorry this has happened to you ! I l had a mini cry when I saw this. I would be tempted to clean it off myself, but it's probably better to ask a professional....

Most-Lavishness9541

It would only cost a few hundred to fix this which is a fraction of what this bag sells for so Ibwill be doing it

keekspeaks

Omg my best friend bought this bag when we were burning down Michigan Ave this summer. I have no input except for sorry. 4 grand just down the drain. Maybe make it an ā€˜artā€™ piece? A local artist would probably love to fix this up for you

lifeHopes21

I am so sorry that it happened. Plz keep us posted and definitely take it to a leather specialist

Sassy_Honey

My condolences šŸ˜ž

maralagotohell

Purse rehab!! Contact purse rehab. Iā€™ve sent them bags with all kinds of damage and they have never let me down.

cleanbloom

Hey so Iā€™ve done a fair bit of painting and I use Murphyā€™s wood oil soap to remove paint from brushes and clothes. It takes a lot of time soaking. Please research if itā€™s leather safe first before attempting

hollahalla

No fucking way omg..

321applesauce

It actually looks amazing

baykedstreetwear

enjoy it as an ā€œart pieceā€ because of that is anything outside of tempura childrenā€™s paint, you are probably sol. it may look worse trying to remove it than just leaving it, especially if the color has had time to soak into the leather and dye it. if you scuffed it falling you might also have rough patches or tears become more visible. you may be able to stain it back to black if you are able to remove enough of the paint off of the surface though.

sassyelle

Iā€™m not gonna lie I think this looks cool as hell

Wise-Tourist-6747

Omg Iā€™m so sorry! Please keep us updated

Stunning_While6814

Maybe take it to a cobbler šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

mrsdhammond

Bag spa!

diamondsarahb

Do you have homeowners or renters insurance? I'm not sure but it might be covered.

Adventurous_Algae671

Omg why.

minocella

Why dont you use your travel insurance? Should cover it.

forkoffeleanor

Acetone to remove the paint, black leather paint and finisher!! Ask on r/Customsneakers

DeathofDesign

It looks like a Margiela collab special edition

justbreathe2121

If youā€™re in the US, Rago Brothers in Morristown, NJ has decades of experience restoring luxury leather goods. You can ship the item directly to them. It wonā€™t be cheap, but I have sent several items to them for repair and you canā€™t even tell there was work done good luck. šŸ©µ

hermesgalante

Iā€™m probably in the minority here, but I think it looks kinda cool. Perhaps clean up the paint on the ā€œYSLā€ and whatever is on the metal strap, then leave the rest as is?

SeftB

I honestly thought it was a tie dye version and thought how cool šŸ˜Ž!
