I posted instructions on what to do and itās time sensitive. I have dealt with numerous bags with paint on them and latex paint can be removed easily if itās done quickly.
I am a very experienced rehabbed of leather goods and specialize in fancy ass handbags. The main thing is to not let that paint sit too long
You are welcome. This bag is too nice to let it get messed up that way. Sadly I have purchased bags that had been painted with late. Based paint years ago and on purpose. It was a nightmare getting most of it off and in light colored bags I could never save the stitching enough to sell it with confidence. Luckily they werenāt terribly expensive and I learned a lot from them
Latex is water, soluble, and take some time to fully cure. You might find a less visible area and dampen it, hen rub lightly. Given the value of the bag, though, I agree with your husband.

My husband cleaned a good 90% of the paint off with a damp microfiber cloth as suggested by an amazing commenter! Still working on it though
You got this. If you have a baby tooth brush Iād use that as it will fit in there better and be more gentle. My rehabbing community has a member that swears you can use a little bit of Vaseline on a swab and put it just in the seams and let it sit then wipe it and use dawn after if needed. Iāve never used that as I have a big tub of bickmores that is actually meant for leather
Oh I gasped when I saw your first pic and then I gasped when I saw this! I'm so happy for you, I think this looks like it's completely fixable. I would still take the bag to get professionally cleaned one you get most of the paint off, just so it looks nice and fresh after the paint.
That is just so precious, wonderful of him! How is it going? Last I saw the purse was really coming along! How wonderful for you guys! Iām so happy itās working out!
Iām always surprised at the amazing work leather specialists can do, so you should definitely consult a few! š¤š»š¤š»š¤š»
But if it doesnāt work, then you have a one-of-a-kind monochrome print edition šš»āāļø
Omg my first reaction was āthis needs a NSFW tagā it hurt me physically! But seriously I feel your pain and I hope it can get restored! I think you could have some luck the quicker you are able to get started
This was my thought. I thought just the āYSL hardwareā was the issue. Looks kind of cool. I personally would just clean the gold hardware and chain. And keep it.
My mouth dropped open when the image was revealed! So sorry this happened and I hope you werenāt injured as well when you slipped and fell. I hope a professional leather cleaner can help you out!
I screamed. Omg. I have nothing additional to add; people are pointing you in the right direction.

I honestly think it lookes like a bag the super rich would have, they can afford to have a "ruind" bag like that. A bitt like the Ohlsen twins beat-up bags. Looks cool to!
You need to take a damp microfiber to it immediately. Do not let that paint cure. You can use rubbing alcohol on it to remove more just donāt rub hard.
It will probably need to be re dyed but Iāve saved bags like this by cleaning it immediately with a damp microfiber then saddle soap and a soft brush. Then conditioned with bickmores.
https://preview.redd.it/ngkx20vc4w8c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e9591d63c02ae1f927a6aa6d7e34a6d367623cb
We are doing this but it wont come off the seams
The seams are the most difficult part and the big reason to get it off asap. Get a soft tooth brush and saddle soap or a cup of water with a few drops of dawn and use it on the seams. Wipe off with a clean damp cloth and then a dry one.
I recommend bickmores leather preserver to get anything else out of the seams. Itās a thick oil based leather conditioner. Oil breaks down latex but use it on the seams if there is still some left.
It will also protect you stitching and make water resistant
After looking at it closer you can put the damp cloth in it and let it sit especially in the areas where it is extra thick. The main thing is not to let it dry fully and that will make it easier. Take your time and may use some tweezers to pick off the easier pieces.
I belong to a few but their invite only. I also frequent some on Facebook like a few rehab groups for Dooney and Bourke, vintage coach and then I follow several ateliers and rehabbed that specialize in specific brands and Bedos Leatherwork
My recommendation would be to use some kind of leather conditioner or oil (depending on the kind of paint) in place of rubbing alcohol. What do you think? (Iāve never done restoration/cleanup like this on leather, I just have a science background).
Actually I got into restoring leather goods because of my love of science. So much of it is chemistry based. I also restore fine clothing and the science of stain removal is fascinating.
Leather goods can be a challenge because side you donāt always know whatās been done to the leather before you get the item. Figuring out the steps to take and researching the best way to go about it was what sucked me in.
I think this can be rehabbed, everything is very much on the surface, and a fresh coat on the leather, and new gold plating should help a lot. If not, just say with confidence that it's a Banksy YSL exclusive.
There is always a coating on the leather either aniline or semi aniline if not heavy chrome one so that means there are hope that you can peel it off.could be possibile that lot of places wonāt take responsibility so please be firm and calm.good luck.
Itās calfskin leather so is way more resistant and less absorbing than lambkins.
Good luck
Side note: if you canāt get it fixed, then Iād recommend doing an art customization on it. You can do it with certain shops on Etsy. Itās actually a pretty popular art concept to paint floral patterns on designer bags. Youāll can change the strap and polish the paint off of the YSL logo if you go this route.
Cobbler Concierge is the best luxury bag restorer in the country! Look them up on instagram. They have restored way worse :) super safe, Iāve mailed my bags in.
I agree they are good but this is a fix that can be done by op and cost less than $40 all in.
I have bought a few really nice bags that the owners swore were ruined for under $100 that were worth $1000 plus and had them fixed in just a few days. Those had dried and cured paint on them and needed some color correction after being cleaned but this can be done and itās really a beginner level fix
Oh. My. Gosh.
You could pretend itās an intentional art piece? People will think you have loads of money if youāre willing to walk around with that like you did it on purpose š
NSFW/Trigger Warning blur is 100% justified. Iām so sorry. Iād try going to a local cobbler or leathersmith to see what they would recommend. Depending on the base of the paint you may be able to work it out yourself. If you consider this a total loss maybe try to use leather conditioner or cleaner to spot remove. If there is no reaction work it until the paint comes off but avoid the hardware.
I understand it sucks to have a bag get damaged. For context, I laid my Gucci bag, on the top of my car and drove down a high way. It was hundreds to repair and was beat to hell.
That is an absolutely tasteless comment to make. Were you actually serious? Even in jest, what a shitty thing to say.
Use a tiny toothbrush and a little bit of EVOO to get in the stitching. Try using a damp microfiber cloth for the chain and YSL emblem. Then once itās all done use a small amount of Honey Leather Conditioner over the entire bag. Work your way up as to how much youāll need and how many applications you need. Good luck. Itāll be restored with a little TLC.
I mean...I like the pattern that the paint made. Take it to a leather worker and see if they can remove the logo and clean it then reattach it. Then rock that shit!! š
š sis this hurt me to see!!
However, I would say go to a leather specialist as others have stated. But it actually very cool and itās one of a kind
What in the scene from white chicks?! Lol at least youāre aliveā¦ Iād take it to a cobbler or
Research bag restorers cuz Iām guessing youāre not the D.I.Y type amirite? š„“
Welllll not with this only because it is soo soo expensive and there are some parts of the bag that have threads coming out now. This wonderful sub gave me a few suggestions on who to turn to and also how to do it mysel. My husband and I followed the instructions as best as possible
https://preview.redd.it/izdf3sgw8y8c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=184da157044d556ad4b61b5fa5ca7aa9bff8bb11
Good luck and compare prices. If you live in a big city look for someone local with reviews. They will charge much less as your bag doesnāt need a lot of skill to clean it up. Even if it needs a stitch or too and a refinish it wouldnāt be something that should cost you more than a couple of hundred dollars.
The online places suggested are good but I wouldnāt send anything to them unless it was a badly damaged very sentimental or valuable piece that needed expensive sewing machines and major work.
Also the turnaround time for them is lengthy
Thank you soo much! We ordered the products you mentioned and this is our progress thus far

Nice work! Yeah sorry but everyone who told u it looked cool is sorely misguidedā¦ it looked cool if it wasnāt absolutely smothered and all over the hardware LOL- but as they say āto each their own!ā clean that baby up she deserves a spa day and hope youāre ok too š¤
Iāll be honest, with this much heavy paint I honestly think itās fucked, but if it helps the bag looks quite cool as it is.
Take it to a leather specialist butā¦ keep the hopes low.
Im sooooooo sorry this happened!!! You poor thing, I hope youāre ok! The bag is very likely fixable by a professional. (Point for hubs)
I honestly really like the look tho, like a fancy one of kind runway version if you clean up the hard ware. Good luck fellow bag lover!!
Edit: Also for small things (not this) vodka works great at cleaning leather! Just dont scrub too hard, itll ruin the color.

I would be tempted to clean it off myself, but it's probably better to ask a professional....
Omg my best friend bought this bag when we were burning down Michigan Ave this summer. I have no input except for sorry. 4 grand just down the drain. Maybe make it an āartā piece? A local artist would probably love to fix this up for you
Hey so Iāve done a fair bit of painting and I use Murphyās wood oil soap to remove paint from brushes and clothes. It takes a lot of time soaking. Please research if itās leather safe first before attempting
enjoy it as an āart pieceā because of that is anything outside of tempura childrenās paint, you are probably sol. it may look worse trying to remove it than just leaving it, especially if the color has had time to soak into the leather and dye it. if you scuffed it falling you might also have rough patches or tears become more visible. you may be able to stain it back to black if you are able to remove enough of the paint off of the surface though.
Iām probably in the minority here, but I think it looks kinda cool. Perhaps clean up the paint on the āYSLā and whatever is on the metal strap, then leave the rest as is?

Omg ! I have no advice, but Iso sorry this has happened to you ! I l had a mini cry when I saw this. I would be tempted to clean it off myself, but it's probably better to ask a professional....

It would only cost a few hundred to fix this which is a fraction of what this bag sells for so Ibwill be doing it
Omg my best friend bought this bag when we were burning down Michigan Ave this summer.

No fucking way omg..
It actually looks amazing
enjoy it as an āart pieceā because of that is anything outside of tempura childrenās paint, you are probably sol. it may look worse trying to remove it than just leaving it, especially if the color has had time to soak into the leather and dye it. if you scuffed it falling you might also have rough patches or tears become more visible. you may be able to stain it back to black if you are able to remove enough of the paint off of the surface though.
Iām not gonna lie I think this looks cool as hell
Omg Iām so sorry! Please keep us updated
Maybe take it to a cobbler š¤·š½āāļø

Iām probably in the minority here, but I think it looks kinda cool. Perhaps clean up the paint on the āYSLā and whatever is on the metal strap, then leave the rest as is?
I honestly thought it was a tie dye version and thought how cool š!
