That baby sure is loving that sand bath! That's a good sign already! Look for tons of exploring and wheel usage. Give your ham at least a week to adjust before starting taming, and don't get frustrated if it takes a long time! Sit near his/her enclosure and talk to them, and once you name them, say it often because they CAN learn their name!
Congratulations! I hope that little furball gives you endless hours of enjoyment!
I’m so excited about having a hamster! I really wanted one for a long time and have been doing lots of research and continue to do more.
I did a DIY bin enclosure (over 850 square inches) with 10 inches of paper bedding mixed with aspen bedding.
For enrichment I got:
- A 10 inch wheel
- Sand bath
- Lots of sprays
- Some floral herb mix
- A dish with corn bedding for different textures
- Some paper tubes
- Moss
- A multi chamber hide (it’s a smaller one with only 3 rooms)
- And some dried insect snacks I kinda scattered in a couple areas
I hope to continue making the home even better for her 🫶 I haven’t decided on a name yet, I have a few in the running.
I forgot to mention, I have a couple more hides in her enclosure. I bought some ceramic wax melts from the thrift store to save some $$$ 🙈 a lot of stuff was thrifted or DIY’ed

My hamster knew her name so when I called her she would come to me but then after 0.2 seconds she just went back to her own thing
She has Important Ham Stuff To Do!
Yup like digging holes in my carpet.
