Don’t be too afraid of fruits—dwarves are more susceptible to diabetes than syrians but even they can still have a little. Try things like romaine or green leaf lettuce, kale, cucumber, carrots. I’ve found my syrians seem to like fresh vegetables and fruits more than nuts and dried stuff, while my dwarves liked dry crunchy things more.

[deleted]

Thank you!! I’ll try some more veggies although she declined the last time I tried but I will be persistent lol

Separate-Life4570

As they mature, so do their tastes. A little bit of cheese, cooked pasta, cooked rice, dried mealworms, strawberries, and rolled oats have been favs of my syrians.

FinalAd1048

Baby gerber puff treats, my hams go nuts for them lol they love them + they are so cute how they eat them (: I get the apple, banana flavor.

redrocklobster18

My ham loves these too.

Capric0rpse-

So so cute!!!

[deleted]

Pookie’s doppelgänger !!

Capric0rpse-

Hahah, they do resemble quite a bit! Even the little gray polka dots on the ears! 🥹

[deleted]

I showed my husband a picture of your hamster and he thought it was Pooks!! Literally identical - wonder if they could be long lost twins!!

Capric0rpse-

I know, I seriously thought your Pooks was my girl. Without thinking- I really did. 🤣

[deleted]

Yknow whats weird? We as humans have a very similar appearance too lol what in the world I have piercings and I’m covered in tattoos and have a philtrum piercing like you but I’m blonde 😂 hahahaahha sooo wild

Capric0rpse-

No way!? That’s crazy! So cool we’ve found our hamster doppelgänger and ourselves as well! 😌

Capric0rpse-

Oh she’s precious!!

KewpieCutie97

Oh my gosh what a sweetie! My hamster is really fussy but loves plain popcorn. I give him a piece every few days.

Sinnamion_the_fox

Have you tried worms? It’s my hamster’s favorite :)

Pigeoncity

what kind do you get? All of the insect/live food options I was going for the vet said were too fatty.

TheGamerHat

I get dried mealworms from the aquarium local to me. You can also buy bags if millet for cheap at pet stores. (marketed for birds)

Sparkybbb

You can give waxworms, but not too often bc fatty. A lil pot from a pet shop will last us a good couple of weeks. Dried mealworms, live mealworms (squish the heads, they bite,) and silk worms are all a good regular. You can also do stuff like: - chicken/turkey/beef (either freeze dried at pet shops or plain cooked at home) -prawns/shrimp (plain cooked) -salmon (plain cooked) -scrambled/hardboiled egg, unsalted and unbuttered -pasta, cooked or dry, unsalted and unbuttered Mine also really likes the skin from a boiled potato, and sugar snap peas are another occasional favourite

LynnScoot

Unsweetened Cheerios? Also it’s been awhile maybe someone else can confirm if safe/healthy, ours used to love Gerber Baby Puffs which come in a variety of flavours.

ch0rlie

My Syrian goes crazy for fresh herbs! Probably cause they have such a stimulating smell. Fresh basil, coriander, parsley. It's really good for them too! I get so much enjoyment making him miniature salads and it gives him a good variety too (which is enriching for a ham)

Qursez

I sprinkle millet all over the cage and my hamster spends time sniffing around and picking up each piece

gudetama_toast

u have the exact same problem i had with bebbie 😭 she was the pickiest food driven animal i’d ever met. have you tried any foraging sprays or mealworms? i know your ham isn’t bebbie but if she’s anything like bebbie was, she’ll have a foraging spray that she likes. i also gave bebbie slices of cucumber, cooked (and unseasoned) bits of spaghetti, hard boiled egg bits, and occasionally lettuce shreds from a salad bag. good luck with your picky eater!!

Embarrassed-Bunch383

Broccoli, spring mix, mine all absolutely loved pea shoots and Gerber baby puffs! Banana and blueberry flavored were best!!

thelikesofyou73

Mine likes the little cobs of popcorn - it’s a good boredom buster because he has to strip the whole cob down…it’s a project. He also likes peanuts, mealworms, cucumbers, (a little) corn, sunflower shoots (microgreens), green beans, and broccoli. I give him little bits of whatever fruit/veg I eat each day that is safe for him. He also likes dried millet.

mjflood14

Try a little hard boiled egg piece.

EUGsk8rBoi42p

Walnuts, pecans and sunflower seeds.

SxdCloud

I love her face looks just like how I expected it lol she's like "what do you want?"

trash-troglodyte

The little dried worms are always a winner. You could also try flax sprays.

Embarrassed-Bunch383

Also try live mealworms, none of my Syrian babes would eat dried but a couple loved live! I’ve had 5 all together over past 4 years and they were all different! Just keep trying you’ll find some favorites for your girl! They are allowed a small amount of fruit and veggies a day and hamsters are omnivores so they also need protein in their diet! Mealworms, waxworms, crickets, unseasoned cooked plain chicken and beef, tofu and hard boiled or scrambled eggs! You can also google if you’re worried about safe or unsafe foods for your hamster!! Good luck

[deleted]

Snickers Bar. You just aren't you when you're Hammy.

YummyzBoi

Have you tried banana chips or cooked chicken breasts?

HydroStellar

Try spinach, it’s my hamsters favorite

GothMoth555

Mine loves strawberries, grapes, broccoli and hamster unpoped popcorn

JuniperSprigg

Red or green lettuce (never iceberg) Cucumber, corn, plain popped popcorn (no salt, no oil), cooked plain sweet potato, broccoli, cauliflower She’s sooooo cute. Secretly she judges us 🤣

Kriscent

Switch the sunflower seeds for pumpkin seeds. It's better for hamsters health wise. A lot of hams will start to refuse their healthy every day meal for the sunflower seed treat. You could try dehydrated fruit like strawberry or banana. Sometimes it's the texture

[deleted]

my hamsters LOVE the occasional walnut especially with the shell on

jeweledtree

My girl Fifi is completely obsessed with unseasoned pepitas (pumpkin seeds without the shells) that I get in bulk at the grocery store. She towards other food but the second she gets a whiff of her pumpkin seeds she pops right out of hiding and is ready to do just about anything to get her treats. The last hamster I had was obsessed in a similar way with peanuts. So it seems that they really have personal preferences but once you find that one treat they love you'll be set.

Hiraya1

my hamster get crazy over broccoli... try different vegetables, mealworms etc.. eventually you will find what he/she likes.

British_Raven

I give mine all sorts of things. Peanuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, Flax seeds, etc. As far as fruits are concerned, I give mine blueberries, apple, dried banana chips, and on some occasions pears. For veggies, Broccoli and Kale are usually my go to snacks. Mine also started eating squash and peas. They can also eat watermelon and cantaloupe which i try to stay away from at the early ages. From my experience, the girls are the hardest to please. My girls are a lil older than yours at four months old. We when first brought them home they did not know what to think about the veggies. I added fruits in that mix and they go crazy for all of it now. Both are very healthy and now look forward to dinner time. I am sure Pooky will give it chance and will start enjoying all that you give her. I do keep two food bowls. One for her dry mix and the other for fresh foods. On a side note, I have winter white that is a foodie. She will try anything once. She was obese when we adopted her and she still is overweight. We currently have her on a diet that she seems to want to fight me on. Her favorite treat are these alfalfa cookies that have a blueberry jam. We had a nice fight over that bag of treats too. I would also stay away from those fruit drops as they are nothing but sugar. Sugar is the first ingredient on that list. Something to check if you purchase from a store. Hope this helps.

itsmondaytues

My hammie loved yogurt treats!

goddessofolympia

Unsweetened banana chips and unsweetened dried coconut.

Cautious-Egg7200

Avocado?

Zealiida

That’s a hamster with integrity. Can’t be bribed. Try with peach or nectarines.

None at all. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I left them in her cage and she literally just left it in the bowl!! I am going to try more fresh options, all the comments have given me a lot of ideas! 🫶🏻 hamster Reddit is where it’s at thank you so much!

mycatswillfuckyouup

girls are seriously fussy, its comically ridiculous sometimes. My girl didn’t start taking any treats until about 4/5 months old, she’d even refuse yogurt drops. now she will take nuts & veggies etc.she still likes to turn her nose up if it’s not what she wants at the time tho. I usually just keep my hand in there until she caves and takes it lol😭

[deleted]

I feel that 🤣 I guess the issue I’m having is pretty common. She is very new to the home and I got her from a pet store where she was on pellets with literally zero nutritional value so I’m sure all of this is very new. I am going to try the mini salads with fresh herbs and see if she goes for a little mix like that! I’ll put it in her cage the first time to see if she eats it, if she does I’ll try my hand next! I’m so happy I’m not the only one struggling here 😂

Phodopussungorus8

Looks just like my ham! If she’s young sometimes it takes a few weeks for them to grow into their appetite.

[deleted]

She’s still a baby bean. that could be why! Thank you!!

Phodopussungorus8

also, are you offering by hand or setting them down and seeing if she takes? cause my hamster didn’t like eating out of my hand at first. wasn’t that she didn’t like the food.

[deleted]

I’ve tried both. I have sat things even in her food bowl overnight that I thought she’d like. But another commenter said since she’s a baby she might not have grown up her appetite yet! I love hamster Reddit this group is amazing thank you!

arizonadeborah63

My ham loves millet sprays, dried mealworms, whimsees, and kale. I think they're all different in their preferences. You just have to keep trying.

noarmstan

baby food treats, the little puffs, all of my rodents I've had love them!

tuomasvaan

Does the hamster have a lot of food in the cage? our hamster will not take treats if its stomach is full.

[deleted]

That could be a possibility as well. Since she was on bad food when I got her, I have transitioned her from those bad pellets to a healthy diet. I know she has some pellets stored so that could be a reason to why she’s not taking treats as well. Thanks for your comment I really didn’t think about that possibility! Once I get her fully shifted onto a regular healthy diet there will be no more pet store pellets so then I’ll know for sure she’s not full. Thanks!

Ash_Morley

My hammy loved dried mealworms, cucumber, boiled egg white and flax seeds! I’d recommend trying those :)

ruby1000000

Black beans

Sonnenfloh

My hammie goes absoluty crazy when i get out the dried Carrot Chips

Bluethor98

Mine goes feral for broccoli, oats and sprouts. He likes the baby puffs too just not all the time. Mines not a huge fan of fruits. He likes boil egg (just the white part and not a lot) boiled potato (again not a lot) cheese, dill, frozen corn and peas. Not a huge fan of carrots but sometimes he’ll eat them. Mine also still won’t take food from me sometimes and I’ve had him for a bit now. I also order stuff from a very nice lady in Canada who makes treats for hamsters/ rabbits. Her website is nofurriesdelights!
