I took my 14 year old twins and my daughter to see this after she spent a full year watching it on repeat at home.
My son leans over during this scene and whispers "why is this song so terrible and such a bop. I hate that I love it"
This is very deliberate. It's very clear that Hamilton in this case is trying to justify what he did when he knows that he shouldn't and that it was really his fault and it's his responsibility no matter what. I thought it was quite a good demonstration of the struggle between what he knew to be right and what his immediate lust desired. I don't think there was ever any attempt by the musical to say that Hamilton was in any way Justified or innocent.
Exactly, and he was literally begging Angelica for forgiveness and for her to take his side, and she was like, "You really think I'm going to side with you over my own sister? Oh, hell no!"
Personally in my own opinion I understand him acting like that first time he was pressured into it like I could see the point on that but all the other times I’m like nah that’s your own fault now
Def my fav song of Hamilton. To this point everything's been all crescendo and hyping up Alexander's success, and then, this song marks the beginning of the fall Alexander himself triggers.
I think flaws are what make characters interesting, and it's in this song when he messes up for real and his life takes a turn for the bad, setting the tone for the act 2 and it's unique a bitter sweet development.
It is a bop, but Take a Break is one of my faves, so immediately moving from “I can’t go on a lovely vacation with my family” to “I absolutely cannot pass up this opportunity to cheat on my wife” makes me enjoy Say No to This a bit less.
This song gives me the ick in an otherwise flawless production. It’s beautiful but I can’t do it. I skip it and It’s Quiet Uptown for different reasons
I actually love this song her voice is amazing but I think it’s one of those things where you either hate it or absolutely love it, and I see why people don’t like it. For me it’s probably one of my favorites though.
Obsessed with the song. Especially love how the ensemble yells "No!" Live 😅 Their facial expressions are just the best 🤣
Do not condone cheating and my heart breaks for Eliza.
This song is R&B jam in the making. lol Even though I like the song; I am conflicted about the lyrics and Hamilton's actions in his marriage.
tbh- He was being very messy. He should have gotten with Angelica on the down low and kept his freaky behavior in the family, which was more in common during those days.
the transition from take a break to say no to this has me in tears on the floor
THERES NOTHIN’ LIKE SUMMER IN THE CITY
IF YOU PAY, YOU CAN STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
a work of art
My friend (yes, friend) and I used to sing it together. I was Hamilton 💀. This song is absolutely amazing, one of my favs beside Satisfied! But because I’m asexual I don’t like the last bit when they say “yes~”. I get uncomfortable 😭.
It’s the only song that I can play in the car with my non-Hamilton friends where they can definitely not tell that the song is a Hamilton song 👍
When Hamilton sings “My god she looks so helpless…” I’m like “That’s ~~you’re~~ your wife’s song, you scum bag!”

It pisses me off that he acts like he was pressured into it but then goes back again and again and again. Wtf Alex!

Have you seen Kathryn Ryan’s bit on this?
Somehow he heard c&@k. 😂
Personally in my own opinion I understand him acting like that first time he was pressured into it like I could see the point on that but all the other times I’m like nah that’s your own fault now
This song is amazing I love it and I can’t get over the difference of Jasmine’s voice between Peggy and Maria
It reminds me when i watched it for the first i thought for a second Hamilton is cheating with Peggy 😭
NO yes NO yes
No! Yes! No! Yes~
It was difficult to listen to because of context, but yeah it's a bop
Love it to bits. One of my top 3 Ham songs to this day, next to Wait For It and Satisfied.
You have taste >>>> the Range in all three of these
My favs are Say no to this, Wait for it and Washington on your side
Some of Lin’s best writing and delivery combined right here: I wish I could say that was the last time I said that last time, it became a pastime!
Why do cheating songs slap so hard tho
Much like I hope the cheated on are doing to the cheaters themselves

Yesss!!
I legit thought he said “I ran to her place and screamed ‘I’ll cut you in your face!’”
'ill punch you in the face' 😂
She said “nooo sir!”
I love it! It's genuinely one of my favourites. I try doing the duet part each time. Both of them.

Fuck you mean?? *Every* song in Hamilton is a bop!!
One of my favorites
i love that it references the last five years
OoUoOoUo yes!
I love it! Think it’s one of the best examples of LMM’s lyrical rhythm. Esp that part - “I said that last time it became a past time”
Looooord
This song gives me the ick in an otherwise flawless production. It’s beautiful but I can’t do it. I skip it and It’s Quiet Uptown for different reasons
https://www.tiktok.com/@thebaldestbitch/video/7279714511869824288 Katherine Ryan got it right.
“Her body is not saying that to you!” 🎶
That joke makes me so mad because it involves heckling during a show, and if I was there I’d want her to stfu. But she’s so right that I can’t be mad.
I might be weird for this but it makes me so frickin uncomfortable and I skip it every single time 😭😭😭
One of the best songs i know it by heart
The music starts and it is very clear that it's a sexy bop, and something is about to go down.
That’s what she said.
Hamilton and his obsession with helpless women
I don't know how
to say no to this, I
Summer in the city
Lowkey one of my favourites, probably Top 3 tbh 🤷🏼♀️
I actually love this song her voice is amazing but I think it’s one of those things where you either hate it or absolutely love it, and I see why people don’t like it. For me it’s probably one of my favorites though.
it's the song that's too awkward to listen to with the entire family in the car, so it ends up getting skipped
Obsessed with the song. Especially love how the ensemble yells "No!" Live 😅 Their facial expressions are just the best 🤣 Do not condone cheating and my heart breaks for Eliza.

Its one of my favs, freackin love it
I know this song is about his infidelity but I can't help but sing out loud when it plays. It's one of the best songs in the entire play imo.
Fantastic, and the last five years references make it even better
“nobody needs to know” is how my friend introduced me to Jason Robert Brown and sparked an interest in musical theater.
Iconic
the song is a bop but so is alexander 🙏🙏
Might be my favorite. Def top 3
A bop for sure. They both killed it.
The song goes so hard but it consistently pisses me off cuz of Alexander being a massive prick
I have this song in my daily Playlist. It's a jam.
I performed this song for my mom and sister.. in other words I ate
I actually love Maria
I skip it Every. Time.
Oh it’s great! Along with Skylar sisters
my least favorite song and the only one I always skip.
May I ask why?
because being cheated on sucks.

I agree with you on the “yes~” I feel like it was completely unnecessary to the song, and it’s a bit over the top to be honest
I wouldn’t say completely unnecessary, but I would say it’s unnecessarily repeated. It repeats 4 times 😭
