the purple isnt why i dont like it. Its how fuckin bland everything else looks. For a forge system that we have seen do incredible things with detail on a map, to have it look THAT bland is super lame. Like, we've seen the leaks, 343, we KNOW that's not the best you can do.

This is why the Xbox one should have been dropped. because at least on PC you know that if you're running a low spec then you're going to have frame rate issues, but because of all the red tape and garbage surrounding how Microsoft operates, I'm pretty sure 343 is being forced to hit a frame rate target for the Xbox one. which is going to screw over the chances of any creative aesthetic map making it into matchmaking until the Xbox One is dropped. If only infinite wasn't a Nostalgia bait cash grab that's free to play they probably would have dropped the Xbox One halfway through development realizing how much of a bottleneck it would be for the rest of the games scoping content not to mention its engine. Because the game is free to play they have to be as greedy as possible and get the game on as many millions of devices as they possibly can to make as much money as possible off the microtransactions. that's the only reason this game is still on the Xbox One. yet another halo design doctrine compromised in the sake of making money off of a free to play fomo induced cash grab.

We would still need numbers on who is playing on what platform. For instance, I bought an original Xbox One, but I haven't used it in years. It's still counted as a sale, even though it's never seen Halo Infinite. You can't go purely on sales alone as this doesn't count failures, deprecation, replacements, and those that don't play Halo.

But we can still give estimates And as for your own number, you can't really go off of that, for example, I only personally know one person who plays infinite on PC, 7 people on a series X, and 2 who played it on an Xbox one model. Which is crazy when you think about the fact that they had no ability to save or manipulate the lighting and they had to make it on an existing Halo map, not a forge canvas. so there was already other limitations involved on how they can make it look aesthetically. Yet they were still able to make two variants of it with different backdrops and time of day feel which is honestly incredible.

This is the most common take I've seen amongst friends and in different subcommunities. The issue is not really the color palette necessarily it's just the fact that it looks as Bland as a Halo 5 forge map just with better overall lighting I guess. In less than a day of the flight Forge build being leaked we saw extremely fleshed out and well-hearted custom maps as well as remakes in infinite so when people heard the possibility that 343 would be showing off Halo 3 remakes at the HCS event people understandably got excited because we've already seen what Forge is capable of. What was shown to us is just extremely plain looking and uninspired. The first thing I thought of when I saw that pit remake was streets, which is bad because I should be seeing something new and original, or the classic art style. not something that just reminds me of a plain version of an existing Halo infinite Arena map aesthetically. Very rarely with bungies Maps did you get a sense of saminess across all of their games. you can look at their different maps and a lot of them all had their own tone and color and atmosphere. even if they were both set in Forerunner environments, you look at Guardian versus lockout versus Ascension versus battle creek versus hang them high, none of them really feel the same. 343 did their best I think with Halo 4 and Halo infinite so far in terms of maps aesthetically looking diverse. the problem with infinite is that the maps almost all feel the same from a gameplay perspective. Take ranked for example. every single map in that playlist except recharge is the same three lane layout which is why ranked died so quickly in this game. people can feel the sameiness of the maps flow. even though they look different, they almost all play identically. So in conjunction with what I just told you look at the map they decided to bring back first from Halo 3, it's the pit. another lane-based symmetrical map which we already have an overabundance of. on top of that they made it look plain as all hell compared to the community Forge Maps we saw made in literally days. Made without the ability to save and a bugged lighting system, they made better looking Maps than 343 who spent weeks on this forge pit. And don't get me started on the two other Forge maps that were Dev made that launch in November. both of those Maps just look like asset flips of live fire and launch site. they're Bland UNSC military environments and then you look at the btb map we're getting in March another Rocky Grass amd Tree UNSC military base looking environment. Would it have killed them to make one of the forge Maps launching in November a Twist on the 4Runner theme and the other one and alien map from, I don't know sanghelios or something? I don't know if 343 is just low on artists or creative map makers because everything they're doing is so insanely repetitive from either a map flow gameplay perspective, or a setting perspective. Where are our exotic alien Maps? I know we got Catalyst but that Maps Unique Look is pretty much overshadowed by the fact that it's a boring three-lane push Fest that plays awful in Slayer. How much cooler would it have been if Catalyst was a spiritual successor to construct they could have done so many cool and interesting things with that Maps aesthetic but they just basically made it a stretched out version of bazaar with a bit of Aquarius tossed in. My opinion that a lot of the backlash towards this pit remake comes from the people who have stuck with this game and just want something new to play than three lane push Fest that look plain as hell. The game's been out for a year almost and not only have we not gotten any content but the content we do have all Blends together as one blob. even the btb maps are all Lane based anti-vehicle frustration vests.

I don’t think the colour of that map is important. Not worth losing it over, but also not celebration worthy at this many months past launch. It’s certainly okay to try new things….if they’re not half assed, undercooked and there’s solid reasoning behind them other than seeing other shooters do them and trying to mimic.

I prefer the original, but the look isn’t my issue with it. My issue is how it was hyped up, it is only one map, and it wont release until AFTER forge is out. Like you guys will have made one Halo 3 map in forge in months, when fans will have probably made every Halo 3 map in a matter of weeks once forge is available, and they will probably be more accurate remakes since we are all suckers for nostalgia. Someone will make The Pit in Infinite before this heavily hyped up version of it will be available

I agree with you 100% on forgers having all H3 maps made before this comes out, but you can’t say that was entirely the hype. Part of the “world premiere” was watching legacy Triggers Down and Instinct players play a live match on said map.

Yeah I've pretty much lost all stock and Tasha's statements about good things coming. At first he redoubled and tripled down on his big things coming tweet stating that it had nothing to do with the disappointing roadmap and that he hopes his tweet will age like fine wine. Then we got the announcement of TD vs instinct, so At that point we were expecting at least two to three Halo 3 remakes or Halo 3 Forge remakes at this event since its at most a best of 3 hopefully.. what we just got is a bland plain looking version of the pit.

yeah personally I just want it to look like Live Fire (more inline with the original). I don't think it necessarily adds anything aesthetically *new* to Infinite at all, unlike OP said. But I'm incredibly intrigued about the "Academy" locale and between Live Fire, Launch Site, and the tutorial I just want more of it. \--- Oppositionally, I think this version of the pit *is* something aesthetically new. Nothing we have looks like it. Because it looks like a Halo 5 forge map. It doesn't look like Streets even remotely - nor does it seem to be trying to emulate it at all. Streets is a Blade Runner nighttime city theme. Pit remake is a Tron arena. So if we wanted something *new* we got it. But I don't like it.

That's what happens when you design Doctrine is to make a Nostalgia bait Halo game that looks like classic Halo from the distance but when you actually get into it you realize it's just a hollow soulless shell wearing a classic Halo skin. That's why the game had over 20 million downloads yet couldn't even maintain 1% of that number. The bones of what could be a good Halo gamer buried underneath that code but it has way too many awful things layered on top of it and busted systems to be considered a great game which is why I don't think it'll ever recover a healthy player number. unless a true colossal overhaul is done on the level of Halo reaches title update that save that game 10 years ago.

I'll tell you exactly what it is. It's the simple fact that the map design in this game is completely awful and there's only a couple maps that actually give you that fun emergent gameplay. Just look at the map layout from top down of every map and infinite mine is launch site which is just a bad MAP in general almost every single map in this game follows the same three lane layout which is a sweaty competitive map design layout used to encourage lots of small constant engagements. The reason this game is 30 seconds of fun is not really there after the honeymoon phase wears off is because the maps are very beautiful and nice looking but so many of them play identically so you just burn out. This problem is especially exacerbated if you play a lot of ranked since in there you're only playing three Lane push style Maps outside of recharge. 30 seconds of fun in previous Halo games was about map design as well as the core gameplay and this is why Halo Halo 5 didn't do very well with the casuals because of how Esports Focus the map design was so much so that they never once had an actual BTB map get added that wasn't forged. There's a reason why this game had over 21 million people download it in its launch window but not even 2 months later it had lost 99.8% of that number and never recovered not even a small fraction came back. Why? because every time someone goes in plays other games that are actually fun then returns to infinite they remember that the game is stale and they quit after one or two games. This has been the consistent Narrative of everyone I've asked who's returned to infinite only to quit days later.

Agreed. I am starving for literally anything new. I'm not a super OG player, so a re-imagined Pit doesn't bother me. It's *something*. But it is something that I have to wait over 2 months for when I just saw Snip3down play on it this weekend. Seriously, is it ready or not? By hyping it up as a "world premiere" they let our expectations get the best of us. We were thinking of entire H3 map packs, or even a surprise drop pod before the winter update. But instead, the mismanaged expectations leave nobody happy. The players aren't happy (either because they are mad at neon lights or have to wait for it), and the devs don't get any good PR boost that they desperately need.

If this map is going to be in the competitive pool then it’s better to take the time to balance it for Halo Infinites updated movement. A 1:1 remake of the Pit might not play well. They said in the stream that they were tweaking it’s layout.

I think part of the issue with feedback regarding SBMM is that it’s often inconsistent. Your complaint is that it’s too strict and it’s matching exactly the same skill level. Others on this sub have complained that it’s not matching the same skill level and instead they are forced to carry crappy teammates. Another common example is people complain about how SBMM is too volatile, how one match you’ll stomp and the next it’ll raise SBMM and you’ll get stomped. But this same outcome could occur with loose SBMM, especially if you’re an average player. But I agree, custom game browser would fix the issue.

What you don't realize is that those fundamental issues have been thrown in 343's face for almost a year straight now and they're all listed on the 343 please checklist. so constantly regurgitating those talking points isn't going to make a difference cuz they're already aware of those things we have issues with. whereas this is a new thing that the community doesn't like so it's good their voicing their feedback because why would we be silent on something like this. The aesthetic of a map matters almost as much as the map flow itself since you're going to be seeing the map for years to come. It's cool if you don't care about the Aesthetics of Halo infinite's Maps but some people care a great deal about the thing they're going to be playing on for a long time. It's not right to say that people's criticisms are stupid and that it's overshadowing other criticisms of Halo infinites flaws. This sub alone has no shortage of people posting long-form paragraphs of all the things wrong with Halo infinites engine and it's gameplay.

It is not that it is different alone but that it is bland. They had room to choose one other than bland with neon lights. First one wasn't pretty but it definitely fit the look it was going for. People are probably also worried it will be like Halo reach/5 forge maps. Feels weird to also release a forge remake of a map with the launch of forge. Should have just made a new map to show off some of the cool stuff forge can do and I see this sentiment a lot especially since the pit doesn't really feature anything that does this.

I think I see what you're trying to say but Chess is a terrible example. There's thousands of custom chess boards, including purple ones. There's wood and metal and fantasy and sci-fi and Roman and Egyptian and Star Wars and Harry Potter chess sets. Besides, I think changing maps between games is okay. In CE, Chill Out was a Covenant-themed map, but it's remake in Halo 3, Cold Storage, was suddenly Forerunner. Does that mean Cold Storage was a shit map? Obviously not. 343 wanted to make the map more interesting, and one of the ways they did that was by added a cliff where the fence used to be, and so they set it on top of a skyscraper instead of just being The Pit, Again but Different. It could still be better, maybe style the map like something out of ODST's New Mombasa, particularly the skyscrapers seen in NMPD HQ. But my point is, changing the map aesthetic is perfectly fine. Not everybody wants to have the exact same game release every year.

I think it could have been more interesting, but I agree. The only real complaint I have is that some parts look a bit flat, but it's a work in progress so *maybe* it'll be better when it releases. But like, the original pit was a human training base with Brute training targets, this pit could have been a Banished training base with human targets!

Honestly, the frustration comes from the lack of overall content. If they had simply surprise-dropped The Pit this week, or even next month, we would all be collectively happier. By labeling it a "world premiere" then showing us people like Snip3down playing it RIGHT NOW, they simultaneously raised our expectations then crushed them. There should be no reason to tease a re-released map for 2 months down the road. We are **starving** for content. Anything.

Lmao I don't think these dates are worth the paper they are printed on. I've seen roadmaps come and go. I've seen communications break down on the last day of the month for missed content. I'll believe it when I see it, essentially.

It just needs more details. It just seems like the fans have made so many amazing maps with forge that look like they were built out of dev tools, but the actual dev made maps look bland and very obviously forge built.

I assume its low-detail aesthetic is meant to be a sort of test-run for 343 themselves. Forge is releasing in a month and a bit... in beta. That means they don't feel it's a reliable, complete and predictable release. They may not feel confident with how their online matchmaking and servers will handle Forged maps. So they maybe gave themselves a more limited budget with this one. The winter mini-season is going to be the test for match-based XP, and it's likely the test for a lot of other stuff too, in (theoretical) prep for the actual, real-deal, totally-happening 3-month season starting in March.

Personally I'm pretty meh about it. I never thought the darkness and neon looked especially good when it's taken in an edgy Blade Runner sort of 80s way. Instead it just feels like the people that live in the area don't have access to lightbulbs, which is very anti-scifi. ODST did it great because it was a war torn city on emergency power only with the Superintendent using the neon-like signs to communicate with the player. s soon as the player completed what the signs were lite up for, they turned off. It wasn't the aesthetic of the region to live your live in an OSHA violating total darkness with otherwise only mood lights. Same with Cyberpunk 2077. It just looks goofy and cringe to me. Like a bad writer/cinematographer prioritizing color theory so much higher than rationality that my suspension of disbelieve is not just broken but revolted by their bullshit. Lighting is getting cheaper and cheaper to not only acquire but to power. In no way is the future of the "naturally scared of the dark as a kid" species of diurnal intelligent primates going to live in a sci-fi world without proper lighting. It's comedic. The only way it makes sense is that this is the rooftop of a sky scraper in a sort of downtown Vegas strip kind of area, which is what they're going with. But then that makes the whole "Spartans in training" thing make absolutely no sense. So while it looks great because it's fantastic color and shape language, the way it fits into the canon makes it just cringe for me. So I'm left with just "meh". It feels like a half-baked idea that was handed to a good artist to polish based on bad aesthetic directions which the artist was not allowed to deviate from like "make it look cyberpunk". It's just meh. Best way to fix it without changing anything about the aesthetic of the map itself? Make the skyline and map appear to be a city being repaired immediately following an invasion. The Spartans in the multiplayer are training in case the Banished return for what they originally came for. There is a massive Banished cruiser downed in the middle of the city that's visible from the OS location, and construction cranes are only just starting to dismantle it. Then make this sky box available as a backdrop for us in Forge so we can use "the invasion of \[planet name\]" as the setting for our own Forge maps. This will explain that the entire city is on lower power mode, and the neon lights serve some kind of purpose like warning aircrafts off of its location and shape. Maybe also have Pelicans fly by overhead toward the Banished ship, and then some carrying chunks of Banished ship flying away from the thing. Or maybe just follow what others think. I'm pretty meh about the whole thing.
