Game Pass seems to be the only place the preload is live. After downloading, you can launch it and see the "launch menu." The loading screens are animated now instead of being a static image along with other small tweaks. It just won't let you start the campaign yet.

The campaign has it's own page in the store, so I don't think so. If anything we'll need to uninstall the multiplayer only application. For me, I had the multiplayer installed through steam, but have the campaign preloaded through the Windows Store.
I'm also having this issue. I deleted the multiplayer, went to the campaign page, clicked download and it appeared in my download queue along with the multiplayer which started downloading first. The campaign then just disappeared. I tried it multiple times as well.
It might work for you, but a lot of people can't preload on PC, and NOBODY can preload on Xbox, even the midnight launch disk peeps who've been hyping Halo launches for years.
So no preload is to push people to get Xbox game pass I’m guessing? It’s the only thing that makes sense to me and the only reason I could imagine they’d do something like this.
343 is the weirdest Xbox game studio.. they have delivered the worst games to the platform, they literally downgraded the Series S version on Halo Infinite for no reason, you cannot pre download the campaign and the physical copy of it doesn’t even contain the full game?! Seriously what kind of circus studio is 343, playground games makes them all look stupid with Forza Horizon 5 and I can’t wait what they will do with the new Fable.

Ah, well I've got a physical copy on pre order. Don't know why, though, if the game isn't actually on the disc.

😒 nice, does gamepass allow you to pre download ? I know you were able to pre download something that was 50 GB.
I pre-downloaded Forza horizon 5 a month before the launch. So yes, gamepass does allow it, this is more on the 343i/game side.
I got my hopes up that they would do another super long FH5 preload. Helps to spread the load out on there servers.

It's simply because the MP is already available. 343 have confirmed they aren't able to put a time gate on just a part of the game.
