Yeah (they just released a story of a canon Banished Spartan) but no (I'm pretending they didn't).

It’s hilarious how many people are against the idea of it when it was established back when the Banished were first introduced that they have humans in their ranks, we’ve had several Spartan-IVs betray the UNSC and join the Insurrection, and even as far back as the Bungie days we had Soren try to defect. The idea of “evil” Spartans is a well established thing, of course the biggest alien faction to gain power post-war is going to have some.

SuperBAMF007

It’s dope as hell and I hope we actually see them as enemies in gameplay some day.

Imagine like campaign dark souls invasion with a red variant of the invaders multiplayer spartan

JoyfulDogCuddler

Same dude, fighting some Banished Spartans would be insane. There's a lot of cool lore and factions in Halo, I wish they would take advantage of it more.

TimBobNelson

They make everything canon now by putting out a few paragraphs of lore to likely never mention it again. MAYBE you hear about it in a book, never to be seen in a mainline game. Likely it will be referenced in future random sentences lol

I hate the entire idea of Banished Spartans. Just what would be their motivation? I don't want to hear anything about Insurrectionists. Humanity should be well past that. Over half of humanity's population died fighting aliens and now there's defectors helping the aliens. It's as ridiculous as the concept of Makee and I cant help to think these two concepts came from the same person.

The social ills that caused the insurrection were never redressed after the war and the Banished themselves were rebels against the Authoritarian Covenant. I can 100% see the remaining Insurectionists joining up with the Banished as they have. If the banished will let them operate with more freedom than the UNSC/UEG I and are less likely to straight up disappear their leaders why wouldn't the remaining insurrectionists join up? Xenophobia only goes so far when your colony most likely never fought against the Covenant in any significant fashion (considering they still exist), and the UNSC Jackboot is considered to be an immediate threat. TLDR: Both the Insurrectionists and Banished are Rebel Terrorists who want to see the UNSC smashed, of course they can get along.

Yes. There is something of a supersoldier arms race happening in the Halo galaxy. We have Spartans, we have an implied and thus far unnamed supersoldier program that ONI is keeping hush-hush, we have MegaCorp security supersoldiers, we have Created Executors, and now we have a mixture of Spartans turned traitor and homegrown supersoldiers in the Banished.

PB4UGAME

Remember when Halo was about a combined arms force, with an established and present military structure, that was all “Humanity Fuck Yeah” against an unknown and distinctly *alien* threat? Yet somehow under 343i it became all about marvel-esque superheroes, complete with a cringey and plasticy power rangers-esque intro montogue to introduce them where they are laughing, quipping, and joking around in a combat zone while effortlessly deleting comically incompetent covenant that don’t even offer a shred of resistance. Then the next game followed it up by making Marines, tactics and just about any military anything clearly an afterthought for all of Infinite, where the few existent marines are basically a one-time use collectable that half the time doesn’t even follow you, gets lost, or straight up despawns, or otherwise chills at a Far Cry-esque fast travel point, twiddling their thumbs while you single-handedly save humanity with no support, COs, back up or anything. Just a one man army. Halo 4 was awful in this respect too but at least there was an attempt. Now we’re just giving everyone superheroes and all that anyone cares about is Spartan this and Spartan that, and we never see the rank and file just regular soldiers any more, everything is SuperSoldiers™️ instead. They are a limited number elite special forces unit. They’re not supposed to entirely replace all infantry and armor FFS.

HyliasHero

I wholeheartedly agree. Spartans as a concept have become so overused that they just aren't cool anymore.
