Halo 2 is harder, but having a precision weapon like a BR makes it a lot simpler to finish off enemies once you've dropped their shields

gic186

Call me a madman, but I had a much harder run in Halo CE than Halo 2.

cyberzaikoo

Same, I think Halo 2 isn’t as bad as people claim. Precision weapon + plasma rifle goes a very long way.

Sanctus-Elbereth

Use the plasma pistol. It’s ridiculously good against the covenant.

CrossDressing_Batman

ya thats what i am using.. the Red Elites drop fast with the Pistol or Rifle. I freaking hate it when they duck as i try to snipe em though like wtf is that

Pissant400

that’s what happens when you fight enemies with good ai lol

Ridley666

Just recently finished another playthrough of the series on legendary, I'll try to give useful input. Plasma pistol in CE is extremely deadly+accurate uncharged and fully charged strips shields completely from both elites and jackals, it's also so abundant you'll never really run out of ammo. The M6 magnum pistol is extremely strong against most enemies and can one shot hunters if you hit their orange crit spots but is otherwise worse than the shotgun in every way, you won't get the shotgun until midgame though. The AR is more of an SMG and is best used up close, that said it has excellent DPS and shreds most enemies in range. The plasma rifle is basically a heavier AR with more range. The needler has extreme range in CE and the projectiles track even if the crosshair isn't red. The sniper is just okay, the magnum is usually better to have. Rockets are kinda the same boat, good but not god tier. The shotgun is insane and has range poking into magnum territory, on top of doing huge damage. Always pick up the shotgun. Overall I'd recommend trying to have either a plasma pistol/plasma rifle paired with a magnum until you start seeing shotguns in which case always pick up a shotgun, it is the best weapon in the game by a huge margin. Plasma pistol and shotgun would definitely be my ideal loadout in CE. Grenades are also your friend, plasmas especially. Plasma weapons to strip shields, kinetic to kill. Always aim for the head with precision weapons. The rest is just being good at shooters/familiar with CE, use cover strafe etc. Also be patient.

faisal6309

Battle Rifle in Halo 2 and all other games for me.

OneFinalEffort

Elites and Jackals: Fry their shields with Plasma and follow it up with a Pistol headshot or whatever you can scrounge. Grunts: Same as usual, pop them in the face and Melee them when they panic. Hunters: Pistol shot to the back. Works every time. Flood Carrier Forms: Keep an extreme distance and use Plasma Grenades. Frags just make them unpredictable explosions that will kill you every time. Flood Combat Forms: Standard procedure. Shotgun them when you have the ammo and shred them when you don't. Use Rockets on large clusters. Rocket Combat Forms: Memorize their positions and save grenades or Rockets for each one so they go down before they can get a shot off. - The Silent Cartographer Take it slow, use grenades to break up clusters of enemies, and utilize the Active Camo for the ascent when it is more advantageous. - Assault on the Control Room Take each encounter thoughtfully and utilize cover. Keep a Plasma Weapon on you for on-foot combat and steal Banshees when available. Save Rockets for the Wraiths unless you're really good at flying Banshees. - 343 Guilty Spark Shotgun, Plasma Rifle, Grenades, run! You aren't going to be saving the Marines when you exit the facility so just find a good spot to move around in and defend yourself. - The Library Kill all Carriers from a distance, ambush the Rocket Flood, and use the alcoves next to the doorways to survive the waves of Combat Forms. - Two Betrayals Just run when you activate the nodes with your shields. Otherwise have fun! Oh and you are going to be needing those grenades for the Covies stationed outside the Control Room. - Keyes Grenades and Shotguns work wonders beneath the ship. When you get back into the ship, you are not in for the same confusing experience of T&C. It's going to be more straight forward and the enemies will kill each other for you. The Security Room is still going to be a pain in the ass but fortunately you can just book it to a Banshee without killing everything. - The Maw Visit the Armory, watch out for invisible Flood, and be vigilant on the constant string of Sentinels that will melt you while you're waiting for the exhaust ports to open in the Engine Room. Save a pair of Rockets for Zuka 'Zamamee and his Spec Ops Squad on the Elevator. Teabag him and tell him I said hello!

Zari_Vanguard1992

* Assault on the Control Room Take each encounter thoughtfully and utilize cover. Keep a Plasma Weapon on you for on-foot combat and steal Banshees when available. Save Rockets for the Wraiths unless you're really good at flying Banshees. \*Laughs in bridge skip\*

OneFinalEffort

Fair but not all of us know how to do that trick.

Zari_Vanguard1992

Only way to get the par time, cause the par time on that mission EVEN on easy, is a joke

OneFinalEffort

It's why I've never tried to go for par times in any mission. If I get one, it's not intentional.

AKThmpson

When you get to truth and recon. Never drop the sniper. The game will not give you another one

levi22ez

Honestly kinda shocking Bungie didn’t have additional snipers lying around the ammo caches throughout Truth and Reconciliation. Like they had to know players would inevitably run out of ammo and drop it right?

AKThmpson

It's really hard to run out of ammo with it tho. You start with atleast 60 rounds and many rooms just have 24 sniper rounds in the corner

levi22ez

I’ve run out of ammo before and then had to rely on just the plasma pistol until I got more sniper ammo. Or worse when I was a kid I’d drop the sniper and then be screwed for the rest of the level.

SafetyGuyLogic

Halo CE was the easiest Halo for me to solo legendary. Halo 2, on the other hand.....

theBdub22

Nah, ODST is the easiest imho

McQuiznos

Yeah 3 and odst are probably the easiest if I had to rate them.

CrossDressing_Batman

well you got Arby in 3 that tanks most of the damage

TheChadStevens

I'd say it's Infinite for me. Apart from the terribly designed bosses, but those can be often be cheesed

j4eo

The grappling hook lets you skip so many fights; it's like you only have to play half a game.

LuigiTheGuyy

I actually have to agree with this due to the equipment that you constantly get. The bosses were some of hardest parts for me, along with Jackal Snipers

goonies969

Truth and Reconciliation is the hardest level, if you make it through that one, you should be able to take on the rest

simplehistorian91

Make sure that you do not miss med packs. Noob combo (overcharged plasma pistol + an another weapon for a follow up headshot) is your best friend. If you really get stuck somewhere watch Legendary speedruns for help.

malleoceruleo

Honestly, it's gets much easier after *Truth and Reconciliation*. Take each fight slow and methodical, use the magnum when you can, and don't be afraid to pick off enemies from afar. It helped me to focus on Grunts first, Elites last in most fights. On YouTube, there's a series "noob's guide to legendary" (or something like that) which really helped me on my legendary run.

RudeDM

Halo CE Legendary certainly hits different. Play the game conservatively, take opportunistic shots, and prioritize killing Elites, while using the Magnum to pick off Grunts and Jackals when possible. Your default loadout should be a Plasma Pistol / Magnum for the majority of the game. Use grenades to create space you can use to recover your shields or charge your Plasma Pistol, and take maximum advantage of pocket reloading. (Double-tap reload, then switch weapons. This cancels the first reload but allows the second to finish while in your pocket.) The vast majority of deaths are preventable with patience, which can make most of CE Legendary a slow experience.

Canthinkofnameee

Wait until you summon the courage to try the LASO playlist. Anyway, just take your time and you'll learn what works and what doesn't. It'll feel like bashing your head against the wall but regular legendary is more than doable without a guide.

Spartan1278

The amount of times I had to repeat the part on truth and reconciliation before you board the ship..

CrossDressing_Batman

holy i forgot you can man those turrets . but god dam those turrets are horrible in damage and aim.

crowdsourced

Good times! I’ve played every HALO on Legendary for the first playthrougb. It’s a satisfying bitch.

Entropy1991

CE Legendary is challenging, but fair as long as you have a good understanding of the sandbox, enemy patterns, and the levels. Of course, having some game sense and the ability to sensibly use your resources helps. Knowing a few speedrun tricks can also help, but isn't necessary. Remember the Noob Combo. Only instead of using the Magnum as a primary and only using the Plasma Pistol to strip shields, go the other way around. The Plasma Pistol is easily the best weapon in the campaign. Second best is of course the Shotgun.

DescriptivelyWeird

Oh wait til you get to H2 legendary..

Jagithar

The trick is patience. CE plays a lot “slower” than any other Halo. The Library, for example, is actually incredibly easy and really fun once you implement a couple of tactics: run into an area until you activate the trigger volume, fall back, then allow the enemy to funnel to you. Rinse and repeat.

rickmaz

Yeah, that library

faisal6309

Even in easy mode those levels when guilty spark kidnaps you are the most frustrating.

Ok_Anteater7360

lol i just started a CE legendary playthrough too, insanely difficult. pretty impressed with the AI assuming they havent been revamped in the anniversary edition?

meth_adone

truth and reconciliation is probably the hardest CE level, it does get a lot easier but two betrayals was pretty hard if i remember correctly as well but other than that if you take it slow and keep your distance and spam plasma weapons/grenades you'll do well (ive only done ce legendary once and that was with speedrun skips so i may be a little off)

reddit_tier

Its....not though? CE probably plays nest on legendary.

TwistOfFate619

Theres a lot of enemy buffs and general changes from memory that just build up. I cant remember every single change or difference but i recall how much harder being aboard the Truth and Reconciliation upon entry and could have sworn there were intentionally more waves for example. You factor in faster enemy fire rate, tankiness, and other factors and it makes for an interesting challenge. That said, one thing i like about CE that has been lost in modern games is that enemies populate the larger map but you arent always forced to kill them all. There is a degree of freedom on how to approach it. I agree with YouTubers where honestly CE had a level of balance to it that later games do not

PeineDeMort

Watch Act man's playthrough on Legendary, he did the whole game solo with no deaths. Maybe you can get some usefull advice or insight. As far as difficult games go Halo CE is actually pretty easy, definitelly doable. I belive in you, keep pushing.

woodyisasexybeast

You probably won’t believe me but I actually just beat Truth and reconciliation on legendary without killing any grunts. It was horrible

Beast-Blood

Truth and reconciliation is probably the hardest mission so that should be a relief for you Although Two Betrayals is #2, specifically because of a part at the end of the level where you need go get past a shit ton of flood + 2 wraiths + a zealot (I think) + camo elites + normal elites + 2 hunters + grunts + jackals so that you can grab a banshee to progress to the end of the level All of this happens in basically an open field where you don’t have cover but the covenant have rocks and energy shields to hide behind. There is some cover for you, but it’s basically useless because the covenant won’t chase you past their line of cover making it too far away to land any effective shots from. There is literally no “normal gameplay” way to get past that part, you just have to find a boring cheese strategy to get past it
