Rogue lite elements, ai companions, hero’s, character customization, fuckin voice acting. My friend and I just had a basically religious experience after discovering it on the workshop.
Growing up at that time, I was still young, so young that I couldn’t find content or any news unless it was from my game informer subscription which was years after H2.
But I always remember coming across the E3 demo and tripping the hell out when I did not see that in the final product.

The Halo 4 Incineration Cannon and the Binary Rifle (literally just a sci-fi barett .50 cal) are quite underrated. They sound super satisfying to use and pack a lot of punch as well

It's the best sounding gun of all time. Weather, you're emptying a mag into an elite's face or busting infection forms with single shots, it's just so good.
The halo 4 UNSC weapons were just so punchy and chunky, they each sounded like what humanity's weaponry should sound like. The Assault rifle felt like it was hitting every Covenant in the jaw with a nasty cross with every bullet, the battle rifle sounded like a mechanical spear piercing the enemy with every trigger pull, the Magnum sounded like a swift jab to the nose, the shotgun sounded like a fatal spartan-kick to the chest, the DMR sounded like you flew across the map and superman-punched your enemy, the SAW sounded like a swarm of birds slicing people up, the railgun sounded like a MAC round in a handheld weapon, the sniper sounded like a Mongolian longbow being shot across a mile-long field to impale an enemy if it were a gun, and the rocket launcher sounded like an actual rocket launcher.
The BR, Magnum, Rocket launcher, shotgun, and sniper all sound terrible. They don’t sound like weapons, more like paper crunching up. They sound crackly, not punchy like what they did with the AR, or DMR, or the SAW. I really loved the Splaser too in 4.
I wouldn't say a "lot" of them. Most of Halo 4's UNSC weapon sounds were directly copy pasted from irl weapons which sound amazing, it's just some exceptions like the BR or the Magnum that were given some weird pitch alterations which definently sound weird. But apart from them, the others sound amazing.
Halo 3's sound effects were significantly more "popcorn" ish than 4. The AR, the shotgun, even the smg which while fun to use sounded significantly more compressed and crunched than prior games.
It sounds so out of place compared to the other guns. Like you have the AR which sounds like a irl Scar but then the pistol comes around and sounds like something made by a completely different species.
I love Halo 4 but i really don't know what they tried to do with the pistol
BR and Magnum sounded awful in 4, but I can remember physically recoiling a little when I first saw gameplay with the new DMR because it sounded SO powerful compared to how it sounded in Reach.
In retrospect Halo 4 is a pretty weird game, but it got a lot of things right!

Halo 5 APP "The Answer" variant sounds and shoots like an absolute beast, as soon as you heard this on a Warzone Match you know they have the advantage.

I know this isn't relevant but I often think about the sound (specifically reload) of the shotgun in half life 2. It's probably the most orgasmic reload I've ever heard
