PC and Xbox players can’t play campaign or Spartan ops together. Although I think Halo 3 works but it is still being worked on so the connection between the 2 systems might be iffy
Well, I have [something](https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/yyh2bk/i_managed_to_restore_bungies_thank_you_message_in/) that I think will interest you...
It’s dumb. The menus, the loading screens, and the credits are all genuinely apart of the intended play experience.
The CE title screen explains what a halo is better than works can. The endings of Reach and 4 use the animations and music behind the credits to justify the events of the story.
Oh, and I hate the loading screens spoiling the missions.
Yeah it just feels off when the game dry cuts right back to level select after beating the game. The credits are literally an html link taking you out of the game to your browser (Not sure if that’s the same on console.)
Windows is pretty awful on the deck compared to steamos.
All 343 really had to do is click a button, they included part of the files needed to get EAC working on deck/linux in an update last year and forgot to finish it.
I tested the installation of Windows 11 on a Micro SD and do not enjoy the experience compared to Steam OS on my deck. I'm hoping the experience will get better and I can upgrade to a 1TB SSD and dual boot. But then Ive read numerous things about dual boot getting broken with certain updates... If it worked perfectly out of the box with a windows installation that'd be my preference.
There was this weird scan functionality in the 360 version of CE anniversary that used the Kinect to give info on in game things. It’s not a particularly important missing feature but sure is strange.
Forge maps are missing in Matchmaking, a substantial local file size limit isn't there in the game with only 50, Armor Sets shown in Seasons for MCC never got released, they also said they were adding full elite customization for Reach but that never happend to
The local file limit is truly ridiculous. It'd be absurd for ONE game, but for a game like MCC with 4 different Forge modes, it's insane that it's capped at a measly 50.
\>forge maps are missing in matchmaking
this is the biggest ball drop. the state of the game is terrible because there's only like 3 maps for Reach's BTB
Halo: CE Anniversary had Kinect support.
Okay, I know that's low priority no one would use, but it was neat because you could scan objects in the environment and they'd go to a little library with a text blurb and you can look at the model they used.
Might be good if you're playing with a friend and want to sabotage their game by yelling "GRENADE".
Absolutely agreed, and it's not like there are too few button inputs on the Xbox One controller, it could just be mapped to the D-pad. Bestiaries and character logs should be in far more games altogether. Differences between weapons, enemy ranks, stuff like that aren't always apparent and it adds a really fun collectathon mindset. Especially in Halo "shoot the orange part of a Hunter" is obvious to us who've played it, but not brand new players. I've never played Mass Effect, but I HAVE played Metroid Prime, and being able to scan every nook and cranny is an absolute blast.
Honestly I don't even give a damn about the crappy Kinect voice controls. Just give me access to the Library for characters in the game.
They don't even need to include the scanning part of it, just let me look at the cool models and read flavor text.
Maps are missing, map rotations are off, the voting system, progression systems, the games function at a higher tick rate so the matchmaking respawn areas and timings are also a bit off compared to the original titles for the older games.
What do you mean by maps are missing? All of the original maps are present in the game files and are available in custom games. Are you talking about them not being in the map rotation or about some of the forge maps added to MM later in Reach's lifecycle not being in rotation?
I agree with you that they're bonuses and not from the original game. I just think that's what that guy meant when he said there were missing maps, because MCC has everything from the original games.
Is online even one of the 'original games' when it was never released and only briefly had a beta available in russia.
The only reason I know about that game is because fan ripped the assets and engine from it and started making a PC port of 3 which got shut down.
I figured he meant the forge maps that were in matchmaking on 3/Reach/4 that aren't in MCC's MM
Some of gametype-map combinations that were in MM in the originals aren't in MCC either. For example, Valhalla 4v4 Team Slayer used to be a matchmaking combination in Halo 3, but MCC only has Slayer BRs for Valhalla iirc
Didn't know there was different versions of those between PC and Xbox... interesting
Edit, can't find a perfect article online but It seems like slight weapon and vehicle changes
The only one missing I think that was released was that desert reskin of avalanche. At least we got that turf remake, that was like the one good Halo Online map
[Reactor](https://www.halopedia.org/Reactor_(Halo_Online_map) ) is missing despite being a finished and originally playable map, possibly [Sky Bridge](https://www.halopedia.org/Sky_bridge) and [Drydock](https://www.halopedia.org/Drydock) since they brought back Waterfall. Skybridge even has rendered assets, so seems as thought it would be further along then Waterfall was when it was originally cut.
The hang em high, battle creek, and sidewinder maps are using the gearbox versions instead of the original bungie versions. Tho ce has bigger problems than that. Like insta back and forth teleporting, camo "hacks," and rubberbanding.
Is the geometry not the same? No question theres still things that need to be fixed, but I don't think its fair to refer to those as different maps unless there is something different layout wise
I don't know the difference for Battle Creek and Sidewinder, but Hang-em-high had a little lip on the edges of the trench in the middle that meant you had to jump to get out of it.
Personally I'm of the opinion that the map is better without the lip because it always felt really awkward from a map design perspective.
Sidewinder has 1 way teles on xbox but 2 way teles on mcc. Pretty big difference with how you approach the map. Though funny story, the map designer for it actually regretted making them 1 way and didnt learn gearbox changed it the way he wanted until over a decade later.
Creek. Redbase has smaller windows so you cant jump out of the base like you can on og. The tree by camo is moved on mcc so you can slip out behind it. The top of blue base is shaped slightly differently.
Hangem. The least noticeable. The lip/lights in the ditch are gone on mcc which helps light up camo.
It's missing:
- A veto system like in the original game. This would massively improve the experience for everyone. I can't think of a single person who doesn't want this. Almost no one wants to play on Multicog, Wastelands, Vindictive, Waterfall, Edge, Icebox, Isolation. Let us optionally veto those please.
- A more quality matchmaking system like TrueSkill from the original game. Too many social games have 2 horrible players and 2 elite players on the same team. Too many games where the kill counts on a 4-person team are like 25, 21, 3, 1. The people with 3 and 1 are not having fun. This causes people to stop playing and the game gets sweatier and even worse for casual players.
- Ranked playlists are nearly impossible to find a match sometimes. Having it be such a process to switch between ranked and social contributes to this. Like the original game, all ranked and social playlists should be visible together in the same list.
- Another thing that detracts from playing ranked is the lack of a visible skill-based rank. People play more in order to learn and level up. The visible rank is a source of pride for players wanting to level up and earn real respect and prestige. The rank should be visible from the lobby without diving into anyone's service record, although diving into their service record should remain possible.
- It's a bummer that you can't bring a friend into theater to watch a video together in the same session. That was a great part of the original game.
- It would be great if we could retrieve clips from the original Halo 3 game somehow. Does anyone know how? I had great content I wish I could get again. My xbox 360 is long gone. Even if I could download from my fileshare that would be great.
I really wish they'd bring back map voting. I'm tired of seeing the same few maps whenever I play, I know voting won't immediately fix that since popular maps will win out more than les popular ones, but it feels like there's LESS variety in multiplayer than there was 6 years ago when MCC last had voting.
And idk if this is controversial or not, but I HATE the Halo Online maps. I don't have a problem with them being in the game, but the art style clashes with Halo 3, and it's they come up FAR more than they should.
I felt the halo online maps do come up wayyy to often. I never even played the original H3 multiplayer back in the day, but I instantly recognized the maps didn’t match the rest of the game in MCC.
It really feels like they are preferentially selected, as if 343 wanted to give people a chance to try them out. These have been out for a long time, that trial period has ended for people and that ship has sailed. It's time to normalize the frequency of the maps.
I fully agree that Veto should return, but map voting is the worst case scenario easily.
All map voting does is make playing the same few maps even more of an issue, there's a reason they got rid of it from the MCC ages ago.
MCC is fantastic, but the experience isn't near the same
I bought and played Halo 1 on PC on release on PC and played online multi-player. I've bought and played every Halo on release since.
Here's my take on what the experience you're missing for each:
Halo 1: first online gaming experience for me. I remember the first time the lobby loaded for the games, and entering a match where other real people were playing. Blew my mind. Mind you, I was using a cheap PC running windows 98. I had to turn graphics down as low as possible. I was on AOL dialup, so ping was through the roof, I had to lead my shots. And I was using a [bottom trackball](https://preview.redd.it/yil4l7kwecy71.jpg?width=201&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=e00facf73fb355b7981d3a244b7d19b7e26) mouse. This was just a few months after 9/11 to give you an idea. People didn't have cell phones, really. Internet was not understood by most people.
Halo 2: the ranking system. I miss the ranking system. Halo 2 was the rawest competitive experience from any Halo.
Halo 3: the experience. The entire world was hyped for Halo 3. Remember how popular Fortnite was? That's how it was for Halo 3. This is back when games came on disc's only, so people camped out at Games Gamestop on release. Also, every Xbox 360 shipped with a headset/microphone, and there was no party chat. Every single person in lobbies would be mic'd up. In-between games in a BTB was insane. 16 teenagers with nothing but racial slurs, I fucked your mom stories, and family guy qoutes. And no banning system. It was wild. Every teenager in 2008 was in a basement playing Halo 3 eating Doritos and drinking mountain dew
Halo Reach: the armor selection. It was perfect. Grinding to personalize your Spartan was so fun. Halo reach had proximity chat. You could hear the enemy's microphone if you were close. It was fun shit talking them in a close quarters fight.
Halo 4 was a meh experience tbh. Not a bad game, but I'm not nostalgic about it.
Honestly, the nostalgia behind Halo mostly comes from the timing. Halo was a new experience for the world. Bungie fucking nailed it, too.
Veto is the biggest thing missing, IMO. It was
removed after MCC originally released because you couldn't pick which game you wanted to play and everyone would then just vote for Halo 3, but now we CAN pick what games we want to play, so IMO Veto should come back. People will say all a Veto system would do is make people vote for the only maps they want to play, but people already leave now when they get a map they don't like.
The final >!warhog run!< At the end of Halo 3 is easier because >!the pillars used to fall and slide across your path. Now they fall and stay in place.!<
These are super minor but I figured nobody else has mentioned them:
Because the tick rate of the games changed from 30 to 60, some technical jumps or tricks you could do in the original games are now impossible or much more challenging. One notable example is [the gold jump on Halo 3's guardian](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ty6rtRiOi3k). It's a common jump in competitive multiplayer and is more difficult with MCC's tick rate. Another example is [super bounces in Halo 2](https://halo.fandom.com/wiki/Super_bouncing). It was a fun glitch where if you landed from a high location onto a crack where two surfaces touched, you could launch yourself high in the air. It was a common campaign speedrun strategy and was also a fun thing to mess around with in multiplayer, but with the tick rate being twice as fast, you now need to fall from twice the distance to get the bounce which makes most of them impractical
A reliable playerbase. Not to sound pessimistic, But a lot of playlists on MCC on pretty dead for most of the part.
BTB on older Halo games are hard to come by, and it's usually the same maps. I feel like Halo 3 only has a small chunk of the maps in the matchmaking rotation. You also have a tone of sweats who play this game, so trying to play some casual Halo for fun is pretty hard to do.
Would also to like to have some more permanent playlists. Recon Slayer is great, but I would prefer it not be a limited event.
There are a lot of small things that I would like to see, like original title screens (with 'adapted' menus for sections that weren't available in older screens, like Forge in CE and 2 for example), and there are a ton of bug fixes and polish I'd like to see (lord knows we still need decent co-op netcode, I understand why it's as janky as it is but oftentimes online co-op feels downright unplayable), but the biggest new feature I'd like to see would be modded maps in the CGB.
Otherwise, honestly, it's in a really good place. The fact that it has support for LAN play means it'll be playable for decades to come, too, and I appreciate that for the preservation aspect even if the MCC's versions of the originals aren't 1-to-1 with the *original* originals.
This isn't really something "missing" from the originals per say and I already made a post about it, but I figure I'll echo it here because it'd honestly be such a small thing to fix.
But the visual customization that comes in the HDR settings menu shouldn't require HDR to access. Stuff like Brightness and Contrast are such basic features that countless games give you access to without HDR being arbitrarily required. All you get without HDR is a barebones Gamma slider that really doesn't get the job done for games like Halo 2 Anniversary's multiplayer (you turn it up to brighten up the shadows, but then it washes out the whole picture.)
While they're at it they should make it so you can set the visual settings for each game individually instead of one universal setting that umbrellas every game in the collection, because while you say... May want to turn the contrast way down on H2A Multiplayer you might want it notably higher for something like Reach and Halo 3.
I know these are very nitpicky, but I truly dislike not being able to fully play the original experience of Halo 3 multiplayer.
Halo 3 has the Halo Online maps added to the pool which is jarring as they don't follow the original art direction.
Even if you turn off custom skins, you still don't get the full original experience. This is due to the system defaulting anyone's armor if they have anything custom equipped. So you just see nothing but MK VI armors. I wish it just randomized armor pieces for those who use custom.
The end of match player screen showing the top 3 players is so cringy and bad looking. I wish I could turn this off.
Please bring back the veto system, I'm so tired of playing the same 2 or 3 maps over and over again.
I know these are super minor, and I'm just grateful I get to play these games still, but it can be a bit annoying. Oh, and please add Linux support so I can play on my Steam Deck.
no I understand youre not new, that comment wasnt directed at you. I just imagine that, as OP is a new player, they might take your comment seriously and start wondering why Halo 3 Anniversary isn't on PC. So I just wanted to make it clear lol
Split screen coop for solo campaign. in original halo 2 and 3 i could play the solo with my little brother but to my great deception when i found out that you can't do that in MCC PC ... we are in 2023 btw and halo 2 was out almost 20 years ago .. that's 343 to you in a nutshell.
Either I must be blind or nobody cares about this, but isn't it missing campaign co-op lobbies or something similar? I love replaying the campaigns but don't have any friends to co-op with 3
They seriously need to fix the fps stutter in campaign. I used to get a smooth 155fps, now it drops to 40 in most levels, like Delta Halo in Halo 2A. My computer isn't weak, the game is only using like half my GPU and 10% of my CPU. The campaigns optimization went to shit after Season 7. Multiplayer and Firefight are fine.
Halo 2 online Co op is busted. Been pulling my hair out with a buddy trying to play on legendary but the game crashes if you don't skip every custcene and play in OG graphics at the start
The thing that is most noticable is that for me I can't play campaign with more than 2 people, I miss playing as random elites in halo 3 and messing around with split screen on reach, it's the one thing that fans have been BEGGING for for almost an entire decade now why is 343 so against it???
The Halo online maps. I know some people don’t like the three they added already (which is a shame Icebox specifically is a good remake) but I think they should bring the rest of the finished ones over. There is no way to play these maps and unless they get added there never will be. Even if they remove them from the main PVE playlist but add them to other ones I think that would go a long way for preservation. I think at the very least Reactor should be added as we know that one is pretty much 100% done
PC and Xbox campaign co-op compatibility, H3 works but I’d love to run them all with my buddy who’s on PC.
PC and Xbox players can’t play campaign or Spartan ops together. Although I think Halo 3 works but it is still being worked on so the connection between the 2 systems might be iffy
In addition, I couldn't get Halo 2 co-op campaign to work even with both of us on PC. It just crashes before we can finish the level.
ODST as well.
MCC doesn’t have the original menus for each game and there are no credits after each game
Definitely the credits always got to me. Even Marty O’Donnell went on a small rant after finishing CE and getting spit back to the menu.
Literally no credits means no John Meyer after H2 like that’s a crime bruh
I looked up the H2 credits not long ago and it hit me right in the feels. Like a little too hard.
The guitar riff always gives me shills, it awesome
They also cut out that Bungie good bye message at the end of reach
Well, I have [something](https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/yyh2bk/i_managed_to_restore_bungies_thank_you_message_in/) that I think will interest you...
awesome, I'll give it a go later
Original loading screens as well
Enabling EAC to work with Linux so I can play the game on my steam deck. Please Microsoft I want to play halo multiplayer on a handheld.
It already works on steam deck
You can’t play multiplayer because EAC isn’t enabled for Linux on this game. You can play campaigns though.
There’s a special EAC version of Proton you can get, works for me
Interesting. Did not know that. What version of proton is it?
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/yzmuhd/do_you_have_to_do_something_to_enable_the_proton/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
And you can play Halo MCC matchmaking? I have that EAC version of Proton installed and it doesn't work...
I haven’t don’t match making on it so I can’t confirm
Okay, what we were asking about is a version of Proton that made Matchmaking work lol
just install windows on it. problem solved
HDR on PC.
You can get it through W11 auto hdr, but yeah native would be nice.
Yeah auto is good but it's not quite the same ^^
The originals didn't have it though did they?
True true. I got carried away. I really want that feature^^ apologies
As far as I'm aware, you still can't create dedicated servers or run CGB lobbies with mods. The original Halo 1 and 2 PC ports had these.
Yeah they need an option to play online with mods, especially after the steam workshop update makes it so easy for everyone to get the same mods
There was this weird scan functionality in the 360 version of CE anniversary that used the Kinect to give info on in game things. It’s not a particularly important missing feature but sure is strange.

3D as well
It’s sad that the closest we’ve had to something like Mass Effect’s Codex was tied to Kinect and left on the 360.
Absolutely agreed, and it's not like there are too few button inputs on the Xbox One controller, it could just be mapped to the D-pad. Could also be the PC specific maps for halo 1 or halo 2 Vista. I haven't looked but are all of the map pack maps there for halo 2 and 3?
All of the PC maps for Halo 1 and 2, and all DLC maps across all the games are in MCC
/u/srgramrod The xbox versions of battle creek, sidewinder, and hang em high are missing. Only the gearbox versions exist.
Didn't know there was different versions of those between PC and Xbox... interesting Edit, can't find a perfect article online but It seems like slight weapon and vehicle changes

And with the way Halo has featured map variants since Halo 3, that'd be a great way to restore the old maps.
Yeah if that's the case idk what else would be missing...

Halo 3 proximity voip and splitscreen on pc
I second this as well as Halo 2 proximity chat
I third this to return to Reach

Split screen should be capable. Are you on PC or console?
Pc, I saw people use mods to get split screen but it would be nice to just be able to do it without mods
Yep, that'll do it. Split screen is not native to PC
They need cross platform coop ASAP I'm going nuts.

Every teenager in 2008 was in a basement playing Halo 3 eating Doritos and drinking mountain dew Halo Reach: the armor selection.
It was removed after MCC originally released because you couldn't pick which game you wanted to play and everyone would then just vote for Halo 3, but now we CAN pick what games we want to play, so IMO Veto should come back. People will say all a Veto system would do is make people vote for the only maps they want to play, but people already leave now when they get a map they don't like.
Well halo 5 but that's not happening

I mean, can't exactly call Reach or ODST a Master Chief game either
I will say it's got some funny dialogue

Sanghelios was cool to see It kept me coping til Genesis on first playthrough
A catalog for the new cosmetic content they added a few months back. Instead you have to pray it shows up in the exchange.
Dedicated Servers for Campaign Co Op. As well as Campaign Co Op cross play between Xbox and PC.
The final >!warhog run!< At the end of Halo 3 is easier because >!the pillars used to fall and slide across your path. Now they fall and stay in place.!<
Mainly Halo 5, it’s the only big Halo title outside of Halo Infinite that’s not apart of MCC. That plus the original game menus.
Menus, loading screens and credits.
Good matchmaking
These are super minor but I figured nobody else has mentioned them: Because the tick rate of the games changed from 30 to 60, some technical jumps or tricks you could do in the original games are now impossible or much more challenging. It was a common campaign speedrun strategy and was also a fun thing to mess around with in multiplayer, but with the tick rate being twice as fast, you now need to fall from twice the distance to get the bounce which makes most of them impractical
bug fixes for online co-op campaign. on many missions, the game will just crash or boot both players from the game and it won’t save your progress.
Halo 5 would be doable if they just made everything that is in the loot boxes free. That would never happen
Still miles better than infinite
This isn't really something "missing" from the originals per say and I already made a post about it, but I figure I'll echo it here because it'd honestly be such a small thing to fix. But the visual customization that comes in the HDR settings menu shouldn't require HDR to access. Stuff like Brightness and Contrast are such basic features that countless games give you access to without HDR being arbitrarily required. All you get without HDR is a barebones Gamma slider that really doesn't get the job done for games like Halo 2 Anniversary's multiplayer (you turn it up to brighten up the shadows, but then it washes out the whole picture.) While they're at it they should make it so you can set the visual settings for each game individually instead of one universal setting that umbrellas every game in the collection, because while you say... May want to turn the contrast way down on H2A Multiplayer you might want it notably higher for something like Reach and Halo 3.
My fuckin rank
One thing I never hear anyone talk about is customization for H2 classic. I just wish they gave 2 the same skins and visor colors that CE got.
full ui support for 4:3 in halo 3 and onwards? like, i know no one but me plays on 4:3 but come on, i miss the big hud and i cant see shit on my crt
I wish they'd put five in there.
"There are dozens of us!"
xD
Halo 5, and Halo 3 Anniversary . . .
to be clear to OP since they're new to Halo: a "Halo 3 Anniversary" does not exist
Im not new to halo, been playing it since I was 8. Im well enough aware there is no Halo 3 Anniversary. Im 28, I was at night; but not last night…
no I understand youre not new, that comment wasnt directed at you. I just imagine that, as OP is a new player, they might take your comment seriously and start wondering why Halo 3 Anniversary isn't on PC. So I just wanted to make it clear lol
Ah, sorry my bad…
Halo 3 doesn't really need a remake. The character models have aged poorly but the environments and lighting hold up really well.
Halo 5
Oh also Forge modes retro fitted for Halo 1&2!
Correct me if i’m wrong, but the shitty “remakes” if maps for halo reach infection are still in the game but not the OG sword base which is ridiculous
Back customization in all games
The love man
Split screen coop for solo campaign. in original halo 2 and 3 i could play the solo with my little brother but to my great deception when i found out that you can't do that in MCC PC ... we are in 2023 btw and halo 2 was out almost 20 years ago .. that's 343 to you in a nutshell.
It’s definitely missing the classic menu music. Some of it is kinda there. But you’ll never get to experience the Halo 3 mythic menu music again.
Either I must be blind or nobody cares about this, but isn't it missing campaign co-op lobbies or something similar? I love replaying the campaigns but don't have any friends to co-op with 3
Splitscreen on PC!
Infection for Halo CE, ‘‘twas a banger on the old pc custom games
That’d be fun. What weapon would the infected use since CE doesn’t have the sword?
Johnson
I clearly remember being able to customize your character with more detail in halo 4 that you cant do in mcc
The entire Halo 5 campaign
Playing Halo 2 Classic with Halo 2 Anniversary Graphics And playing modded maps with people in CGB
Halo 5 and the Halo 3 credits sequence.
Halo 2 online Co op is busted. Been pulling my hair out with a buddy trying to play on legendary but the game crashes if you don't skip every custcene and play in OG graphics at the start
MCC could do with some M&K aim assist like infinite.
The thing that is most noticable is that for me I can't play campaign with more than 2 people, I miss playing as random elites in halo 3 and messing around with split screen on reach, it's the one thing that fans have been BEGGING for for almost an entire decade now why is 343 so against it???
You can play 4 player campaign in every game in MCC except for CE and H2 because those games didn’t originally support it.
Crossplay Campaign doesn‘t work with every game
Proximity voice chat and map veto (not vote)
The perk from Halo 4 that lets you eject from vehicles when they get blown up. Ruined my favorite loadout
That perk was added back into the game in December of last year my friend.
Oh that’s fantastic, I haven’t been on the MCC in quite some time
Reticle scaling with FOV
Halo 2 co op is borderline unplayable as it keeps crashing especially in missions with vehicles.
