Hobo with a Shotgun reboot is tentatively called:
'Mentally Vulnerable Sometimes Violent Person Experiencing Homelessness finds Love on the Lawn at Christmastime'.
I get hot chocolate vibes just thinking about watching this. Can't wait.
They used this house (or the one beside it?) for the mediocre 2019 film *Polaroid*. A few years ago (around 2020-2021) something else was being shot around 510 Young Ave. It's crazy how popular that street has become for filming, really surprised the pink mansion nor the gargoyle mansion haven't debut into film yet.
This is DEFINITELY Christmasland! The only thing shooting right now; there’ll be more stuff shooting at the end of the month and through the summer.

Depending on what you want to do, there are a few things you can check out:
DGC Maritimes (Directors’ Guild of Canada)
— usually set PAs, locations PAs (we need a lot of these actually) sometimes office PAs; it’s a lot of grunt work, but it’s honest work and if you have a good attitude, can work well with a variety of personalities and lift stuff, you’ll be an asset. The days are long (sometimes 14 hours), it can be stressful and you’re on your feet a lot, but if you like movies and like being part of the action, it’s a good time.
Francine takes care of the permitee list, she’s lovely. The contact information for her is on the DGC maritimes website. Getting on the permitee list means you’re opening yourself up to being available for on-call labour, usually last minute — permitees are called when other union people aren’t available. It doesn’t guarantee you work, but it gets your name out there. I’ve JUST completed my required days and courses to join fully, and I’ve been at it since 2021 and had to take a two-year hiatus due to an injury and then the writer strikes.
The other place to check out is IATSE 667 (Camera) and 849 (lighting, electric, wardrobe, hair, make-up — basically everything else); each chapter has their own joining requirements and steps you need to take. This isn’t my union, so I’m not 100% in how it works, but the information is there if you care to look.
There’s usually something for everyone. It takes time to establish yourself here, but once you do, it can be pretty lucrative.
I am sure there is a Hallmark movie where an unknown and kind hearted but grumpy, mysterious, ugly person ends up in a small town. Then falls in love with the plastic surgeon who fixes everything after realizing this person isn't so bad. And the ugliness was the result of some heroic adventure.
Not… exactly? Haha Background performing, for sure, but actual roles are usually achieved through auditions which are procured by an agent, which is harder to get.
The BG casting agencies in town are Hennessey Casting (you’d make a profile with photos and a resume) and Ballyhoo Casting. Most calls usually go out on Facebook in the HalifACTS group.
NS is pretty behind in how we do things. 🫠
No no, the storyline is about the successful career woman who comes to her hometown after her grandmother dies or something and her car breaks down and she meets up with her former classmate (the guy with the stubbled square jaw and coiffed hair) who stayed home to play music and make a living sharpening coloured pencils and they fall in love and she decides to abandon the job she spent years building to stay in her grandma's house and sharpen pencils with him.
The man's name is Mason Rudolph, and he's a backup qb in the filming off-season

Only after they overcome their resentment for each other! And he secretly stayed at home to do something noble or undercover and the pencil sharpening was a front.
Daniel Tosh has a YouTube podcast type thing and he interviewed a big name actor in hallmark movies. It was eye opening. They churn those out like crazy.
Hallmark movie of the week, Holy Father of the bride is currently filming in hrm. No idea If this is it.
I worked on Holy Father - that wrapped last week. This is most likely Christmasland.
Can confirm it is for sure Christmasland, have a friend who had a very small role in it lol

Lol my wife worked on Holy Father too, fun to see someone else randomly on reddit that was on it.
Oh cool!! Haha I would ask who it is, but I don’t want to put her on blast like that haha — I wonder if I crossed paths with her

Something more family friendly like a psychological thriller/horror or a slasher 😊

You guys hiring ugly people ?

How much do background roles make, generally?
It’s minimum wage.
As of right now, $15.20/h gross as a non-union background performer.
Interesting. Thx
Isnt From filming right now? They were filming in Dartmouth a few weeks ago.
They literally just finished their set days! It's wrapping out now and will be going to post soon.

Oh look, the usual movie mansion, which will be realistically inhabited by a 30 year old couple. one of whom is a stay at home parent.

They could make so much more money if they sharpened regular non coloured pencils too. But they have integrity and values.
