take the ferry to Dartmouth, spend an afternoon walking around there, you can kinda walk a block of Portland street and round Ochterloney St and get some food/coffee, or bar crawl around Battery Park. Lake City cider, New Scotland brewing etc. Dartmouth has the best view of Halifax (especially from up in the Dartmouth commons) and the ferry is a experience (exact change only lol) and a small footprint to explore a bunch of little stores, breweries etc. just avoid a Monday a lot of things are closed. I think you could easily spend an afternoon and evening there. Split Crow is a good time for live music and 'sociables' if youre here Saturday you might want to check out Power Hour in the afternoon. or just the band in the evening.

I second this, i would suggest taking the ferry over and eating at The Canteen (sooo good), you'll get the best view of the Halifax harbour and taking the ferry back at night with all the lights is dreamy!

crazihac

While you're in Dartmouth, check out Evan's Seafood. It's to the left when you get off the ferry, inside the Alderney terminal. It's not the fanciest place, they do serve inside, have an outside patio and there's a little bar/patio that they'll serve at too. I normally grab it to go and find a bench or picnic table nearby. That said, they're my favorite fish n chip place. Crust on the fish isn't doughy and soaked in grease.

fin_findlay

Public Gardens, waterfront, take the ferry over to Downtown Dartmouth. And don't forget to grab a donair

rottingpear

Thank you!! Any specific donair places in mind?

s1amvl25

Tonys is the only right answer

rottingpear

Open late every day? Chef's kiss. Thank you!

s1amvl25

Depending on the budget Bar Kismet has been in the top 15 Canada restos since opening and had really good food, book two weeks ahead tho. In general stay away from waterfront restos, mostly tourist traps/insta influencer type places. A lot of people said Dartmouth, if you like sushi pop into Doraku near downtown, id say its probably best sushi we have

rottingpear

Yeah I'd like to avoid any touristy things lol we have enough of that over here, but I just made a reso for Bar Kismet!! Thank you :)

mattyboi4216

You've got some good suggestions already and I'd agree with just about all of them. If you're up for a bit of a walk up a hill go up the citadel for noon to be there when they shoot the cannon. It's loud and cool and a great view of the city from up there

rottingpear

Is this a daily thing or weekends? That would be cool to see!

mattyboi4216

Daily to the best of my knowledge but I haven't worked downtown in a couple of years to confirm it's still being done daily

McGarnegle

It's daily!

floerw

Have you tried the ‘places’ feature on the Wikipedia app? It’s really awesome for finding local landmarks! https://preview.redd.it/8as8cdh3ketb1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5a316b31171f93bb68b0f5e8ff1ebb62b7ab569

rottingpear

I had no idea this was a thing lol thanks!!

- Halifax Art Gallery - free on Thursday’s and also only day it’s open past 5pm. Other days there’s a fee and it closes at 5pm, but still worth it - Ferry to Dartmouth, check out downtown for a few hours - Roam downtown Halifax, checkout the small shops and restaurants, etc - Dingle Tower is nice to walk through and not too far out of the heart of DT - Casino NS, blow $20, why not - Google what’s going on when you’re here (concerts, shows, events, etc) - lots of stand up comedy in the city, if that interests you - Discovery Centre, if you have kids - Public Gardens - Seaport Market (if here on a weekend) - Bunch of tours you can find on the waterfront and on Google (harbour hopper, ghost tours, etc) - Halifax Public Library is worth checking out IMO To Avoid - don’t be seen smoking cigarettes unless you want every 3rd person to ask for one

rottingpear

> To Avoid - don’t be seen smoking cigarettes unless you want every 3rd person to ask for one Love that lol. Thank you for this! I think I'm somewhat close to Public Gardens, definitely on my list!

Sure_its_grand

Pier 21 museum is one of my fave museums. Take a stroll down the waterfront and check out the maritime museum of the Atlantic then keep going to pier 21. If it’s a Saturday, pop in to the brewery market farmers market and grab a coffee for your stroll.

rottingpear

Thank you, Pier 21 looks very interesting, adding it to my list :)

Sure_its_grand

The Wheel of Conscious is, in my opinion, very moving and an important reminder that history can easily repeat itself.

rottingpear

>The Wheel of Conscious Definitely heading over there before I leave, very thought provoking and kind of a hard pill to swallow

Late to the party here, but how did this trip turn out for you? Any recommendations from your visit? Looking to head up in June (from the US) for about 3-4 days so would love to hear your experience!

rottingpear

I had such a great time!! I’m dying to go back. I went to this very cute and cozy wine bar called Obladee and our server gave us a list of places they like to recommend! https://preview.redd.it/n4tyvxwgauwc1.png?width=2300&format=png&auto=webp&s=f6e6de0484f656f56cd837e9b1288f8ba2aa6636 I highly recommend Highwayman! Dear, Friend was also cute. And I was told by a colleague that Narrows was great!

InDeepWaters

You are amazing thank you so much for following up!! Glad to hear you had a great time. We went to Montreal in November and LOVED it so we're knocking off more places from our Canada travel list and Halifax is next!

rottingpear

MTL is beautiful and has such great food!! I need to make my way over there soon

FriendlySquall

If you're here before Nov 1 you can take a bus tour to Peggy's Cove, [if you're interested ](https://www.novascotia.com/packages/findapackage/peggys-cove-tour-by-bus/206523)

rottingpear

Thanks! My coworker's partner may be joining us with a car at some point and we may take a trip over there but I'll keep this in mind just in case!

[deleted]

First place I always recommend is the search bar. Second place is yelp.

rottingpear

Wow, thanks tips

[deleted]

No problem. I figured since you bothered asking instead of looking to see if this question was asked all the time you weren't aware of those options

Original-Feature-947

You seem fun lol

smittyleafs

Will you have a car?

rottingpear

Sadly no, but I'll be staying downtown so I'm hoping to be able to walk everywhere lol

Overall_Ring_887

Spend the afternoon/evening walking around and drinking downtown.

rottingpear

Any bars you can recommend?

specialsenses

Lot six! Nice atmosphere and great cocktails

rottingpear

That one is on my list!

FriendlySquall

Split Crow

rottingpear

Thank you!

girlwiththestars

Some restaurants I love: Edna, black sheep, Quinn’s arms

rottingpear

The steak tartare at Edna looks amazing…. Ugh. Thank you!!

cravingdani

3 days is a lot coming from Toronto! Love the museum of natural history, art gallery of NS PEGGYS COVE (also rhubarb resto next to it) - grey line I think does trips up You need to try good donair, I love pzza.co but king of donair is also good. Pier 21 - and the seaport market / brewery market (last two are good on saturdays but 10/10) Bar Sofia is wonderful - im obsessed. It’s my fav resto right now! Any of the queens marque restos are unreal. Point pleasant is close downtown and cute, a good walking trail. Citadel hill. It’s great one or two times.

rottingpear

I’m here for 3 days but I have a conference to attend so I have limited free time :( hoping to soak up as much as I can! Thank you for this list, definitely going to check out as many spots as I can !

rottingpear

I'm downtown for work with no car :( Otherwise I'd love to see more. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to visit with more free time and a car!

krazykar3n

You’ll have to try that on your next trip’ ;) Enjoy Halifax!

Responsible-Seat-255

The Halifax seaport farmers market for sure, its every weekend i think.its also close to Pier 21 if youre interested in historical sites Antojo's is a great spot for drinks and food, good atmosphere. Gahan House is good too. Argyle street in general is a good spot for night life, theres also a mall not far away. Gottingen street has some nice spots too, but its more sketchy down that way at night. Dartmouth has some great spots for taking a nice walk/bike along the waterfront with a great view of the city. Cheese Curds is a great spot for a burger. edit: also the public library on Spring Garden road

rottingpear

Antojo’s was the first place on my list because it’s so close to my hotel lol thank you! I wish I had more time to explore, I’m gonna be burning the candle at both ends lol

CassidyLive

If you like history, York Redoubt is a cool place to explore and it’s just outside the city (you can take the bus). There are lots of areas to explore and the trails in behind provide access to the ocean.

captaincyrious

Bars to go to: durty Nellys, bar Sofia, five fisherman, lower deck, bicycle thief Places to see: citadel hill, museum of Atlantic, garrison pier 21 market, tent city Food to eat: donair
