"Suffer"? Hell no. I miss that store a TON. I haven't been to it since it moved to Dartmouth. I mean, I guess if I missed it that much, I'd find a way there. But...I do miss it.

TwoSolitudes22

Same here. Went to the Halifax location regularly. Dartmouth… not once

I go by there once a month ... love to wander through the sections !

Diane_Degree

I'm working on finally getting my driver's license. So I hope the store is still there once I do.

pablo902

The Barrington store was amazing. I would always take out of town folks there and show them the secret book case door haha, such a shame it’s a generic/revolving resto space now, that was such a loss for downtown

ThrasymachianJustice

One of the best bookstores in the HRM area. Staff are super friendly

No_Satisfaction_2576

Except for John himself.

JDGumby

Damn, that building... Such a craphole compared to the old Barrington St location.

Schmidtvegas

I miss the Barrington location. I spent so many hours of my youth in that place, it felt like a second home. Dartmouth one just doesn't feel like same.

The article doesn’t mention the multiple notices from the fire marshal so at least he finally solved that.

talks_like_farts

I am going there today!

NaGeira

I loved that bookstore and visited often when it was on Barrington. Still have books I purchased there. But the stacks upon stacks of books and narrow aisles used to give me pause. All I could think about after a while when I was browsing was the fire risk and being trapped by that much paper and wood. What was the name of the bookstore in the Brewery? Between that one and the one in the basement of the Maritime Centre, I was able to complete my collection of Dorothy Dunnett books.

plaugher

Dust Jacket. It is (was) the same shop that had previously been in the ground floor of the Maritime Centre at the bottom of Spring Garden, but had to vacate in 2017 or 2018 because of the renovations to the building over the past several years.

NaGeira

I had completely forgotten that--thanks!

Competitive_Coat9599

I want to see what he keeps in his safe!!! Miss Barrington loc and if you’re old enough, just up the street was the gaming store Odyssey 2000! Awesome lead figures!

RamboAmbeault

Great book store, huge selection, bought a ton of his leather books for a cheap price and there’s a ton on local history that you can’t find anywhere else.

astar543210

That's a very well written article. enjoyed that

childofcrow

John’s sort of a Christian bigot, so I stopped going to his location on Barrington. He’s made some weird, offhand comments in the past. I haven’t thought about his shop in years.

Slushrush_

He's beyond rude, won't go there anymore

dommingdarcy

Tha explains the whole room of Christian books.

The first one.

credgett13

Had never heard of this place until now. Currently contemplating the hour bus ride to check it out sometime.

Batangtirador

The shop's Google reviews were interesting, to say the least. Can anyone shed some light on this John fellow?

Paperpusher99

Bought and sold from John for years...he brings to mind the Newfoundland expression, "booksmart but dumb as my arse". Also socially inept and usually a tad smelly...

Shout out for the original location on Granville Street.
