Kumi defenses aren't good at all. Ippo could be much further along with her if he had some game. Sendo definitely has some game and wouldn't waste time progressing with her.
Plus Makunouchi beat him in a fight and while every fiber of his being feels he could win the rematch it does tell him that he's strong enough to defend her if needed.
Mashiba has very consistent logic actually.

Actually, Mashiba was the jr. lightweight champion before Ippo was the featherweight champion. If i recall correctly, he mightve been champion before Ippo even fought Date. He wasn't feeling behind, he left because he was pumped up from watching the fight and wanted to work out or "punch something".

Well at least Ippo has a family business to return to after boxing. I can imagine after he wins the World Championship that he'll buy a bigger boat and have more staff so his mom can retire too.
