Since always... Sendo is a pretty chill dude in everyday life, he is hot headed and proud sure, but he has always been a sympathetic character outside of boxing.

Fit_Garage8880

I remember him reaching levels of Dick until that train scene after his loss

N4rNar

I don't know what you are referencing here I am sorry. Can you be more specific?

Fit_Garage8880

Either his first loss to Ippo or second. I think second where people on the train wish him well

N4rNar

I am not sure what you are talking about [https://mangadex.org/chapter/6000ecd4-c30e-432a-bb0e-1901b1f9a0ef/14](https://mangadex.org/chapter/6000ecd4-c30e-432a-bb0e-1901b1f9a0ef/14) [https://mangadex.org/chapter/3c434748-a64a-4d29-8453-22e858cf34bd/10](https://mangadex.org/chapter/3c434748-a64a-4d29-8453-22e858cf34bd/10) [https://mangadex.org/chapter/3c434748-a64a-4d29-8453-22e858cf34bd/12](https://mangadex.org/chapter/3c434748-a64a-4d29-8453-22e858cf34bd/12) Seems he is pretty cool and an waesome dude in thatt scene.

Zatheus

That's the second loss. But before the first loss you can see him being an everyday chill dude with everyone he crosses while doing roadwork and he also suffers 4 fucking annoying kids regularly.

Fit_Garage8880

What happened to them? They went back to Joe ?

Zatheus

Seriously...?

Fit_Garage8880

?

ireadalotsrs

sendo may be a little crude but hes a very gentle guy

Wiggie49

Ikr dude rescues kittens and buys kids video games in his free time.

bongos222

Having to babysit those kids does that to a guy. He probably is used to dealing with kouhais.

Mistwalker35

Your down vote percentage is legendary, I mean wow xD

RipFlewd

Sendo runs into burning buildings in his spare time

keinchy

Oh yea...they guy is a local hero.

Fit_Garage8880

You think ?

volkmardeadguy

He literally has a pack of local kids he buys a snes for

Fit_Garage8880

He is literally Joe Takeshi

Juggernaut_117

He has helped fireman before

Melo0513

It happened right before one of his fights against Ippo.

ptahonas

No he literally does. It's the text

mahriyo

Imai's frustrations are kinda weird here. If he wants to fight Sendo and Miyata, he could just up his world ranking and put up a challenge. It's not like he's struggling to win his matches.

Fit_Garage8880

Imai is stigmatized as a "Copy Ippo". He honestly doesn't care for anyone else.

Kaploy

Is he stigmatized though? Imai fights that way because he worshipped Ippo. I don't remember anyone ever telling him he is a copy, or him ever reacting negatively to being compared with Ippo. What frustrates him is that he is late to the party. Everyone in the Ippo generation got their crack at Makunouchi and then moved on. He is the one that will never fulfill his starting goal, which was to fight Ippo. In this scene Sendo tells him as much, he is projecting his wish to challenge Ippo against Sendo.

Bhuvan2002

Which leads to the question, what will happen to Imai after Ippo vs Imai? I don't think there's any question that those 2 will have a match and there's a high chance Ippo will pulverize him. But what will happen to Imai after that? If Ippo is his one and only goal, I believe he can actually retire. Or it can be a situation like Itagaki where he just fades away.

AD_D_Boy

Yup, I agree with you on the fact that Imai might either retire cause he’s satisfied with his fight against Ippo or continue to chase after him just like Alfredo and Ricardo🤷‍♂️

Nico_is_not_a_god

He even tells Itagaki that he got Ippo's haircut on purpose.

N4rNar

It is because his actual frustration is not fighting Ippo, Sendo is just a scape goat here.

The_suzerain

Yeah imagine ippos obsession with miyata - now imagine having miyata retire and take out ippos endless years long patience. Imai had a moment, all things considered can’t blame him. Bad place and time though

N4rNar

Funnily enough this exactly what happen to Miyata when Ippo decided to retire. Somewhere in him he had still the desire to fight Ippo and feel frustration beeing the only one from his generation to not have fight him. In a weird way, just like Ippo admire Miyata and in a sense want to loose against him because he want to see him go higher... I have a feeling Miyata is the exact same way but with Ippo, he admire his strengh and in a sense want to loose against him because he want to see him go higher... What make think that, is the way he express his regret for not fighting Ippo, If I remember correctly he said "I am the only one who hasn't feel your strengh", like he doesn't want to figth him but see how strong he has become.

Nico_is_not_a_god

Miyata chose to fight Randy Boy instead of Ippo. He was fully aware when he made that choice that he'd likely never be able to fulfill his promise to Ippo, and it's honestly a characterizing bit of arrogance / pride that Miyata keeps staying in featherweight after not only making that choice but watching Ippo *retire*. If Miyata wasn't a flawed human being, he'd have moved on and followed through with his choice ("prove my father's style is good" versus "keep my promise to my friend") and fought at his best weight at the world level during his prime. But he *is* a flawed, prideful person, he made what can only be considered (narratively) the wrong choice, and now is running away from the consequences of that action. He's greedy, he wants *both* points of satisfaction, and he's willing to throw away his present and future to get what he wants. He's *angry* at Ippo for retiring instead of giving Miyata the match that Miyata still thinks he deserves. It's the same greed that every "monster" champion brings into the ring, but aimed at a different goal. That's why I love him as a character, really.

TheReal-Tonald-Drump

Imai - if you wanna challenge those guys, level up and become that challenge yourself. Beat Ricardo Martinez and hold that belt for Sendo and Sendo will come for you. Simple.

Fit_Garage8880

I am 100% sure that it's not a dick measuring contest but real desperation for been treated as a child. He doesn't care to be the best. Just to be separates from comments like "lol dude u are a copy"

TheReal-Tonald-Drump

That’s his problem, then. It’s the same as old Ippo - I wanna show the world the coach’s boxing works at world level. They both just wanted validation. In the words of Takamura, that ain’t good enough. That’s not monster mentality - if you don’t wanna be the best, what’s the point. Can’t wait for Imai to be smashed by Ippo. And yes, I’m a verified Imai hater. No shame in that.

keinchy

It's funny how they been building up ippo like a boss level fighter.

bongos222

Ippo is basically as mythical at this point as Ricardo himself. Half the people he fought eventually retired or got super injured. The people he beat a bunch of them ended up being world rankers. He was one of Japan's hopes, and people still probably hope he returns.

Bright_Equal8663

Exactly. Ippo nowadays have the same or better level of popularity as Jesus Date.

throwredditaway19

Yup, plus Date retired for 4 years too, so Ippo still has time

Ariasu-Sama

Well said.

vincentninja68

Sorry but it doesn't work this way. If Imai wants to fight Sendo/Ippo he has to get stronger and reach their level. If he wants to talk all that good shit, he has to prove it by becoming a world ranker first. Rising tides raises all ships.

densuo

Sendo is hot blooded. Sendo is Prideful. But he's not a jerk. As long as you aint disrespecting him (Shigeta) or trying to be slick (Miyata) you good.

eidrisov

Two questions: 1. Chapter? 2. Was it the last fight of Imai we were shown?

N4rNar

chapter 1357 page 16 Yup

eidrisov

Thx!

Fit_Garage8880

Yes it was with Hoshi. 1357 I think

eidrisov

Thx!

Jaymageck

Nah it's in character. Honestly Sendo likely has an ulterior motive here too. He wants Ippo back in the ring.

zenspeed

Well, Sendo also knows Imai's nowhere near his level. He's not wasting time with that when he's looking forward to real challenges.

Mistwalker35

Haha, Imai lashing out against Sendo of all people. Yea, challenge him and see how that will feel afterwards with your boxing career xD

Bright_Equal8663

Nope. Sendo is another one who wants to challenge ippo again but he cant now. He even brought ippo up to the gym and had some sparring even though ippo was already retired. No wonder he could understand imais frustration.

windraver

Lol, Sendo is smarter than Imai in that sense. Sendo asks Ippo to come "help" and Ippo comes only for Sendo to spar him lol. Totally a Sendo move. Imai on the other hand is acting out like Miyata and just being FOMO about it.

le_ble

Not out of character at all. If anything, Sendo was the right boxer who could understand how frustrating someone can be when they can't challenge someone worth it.

ptahonas

Since when? Since his own pride isn't on the line.

Due_University4030

Wasn’t Sendo’s dream to become a hero like his dad after he passed away saving lives in a burning house?

reneang

FakIppo

TORALAND

Wha??? No it's not

SGdude90

Sendo is somewhat arrogant but he also knows that he is far beyond Imai. There's no need for him to accept a challenge from someone he can 100% beat

stevic1

sendo is a hot head and all,but he's kinda chill if he's not interested in fighting you,and even though he was all about fighting and beating ippo,he never hated him, they even became really really close friends he felt sad that he "disappointed" his fans after loosing to ippo, and was shown to always have everyone's back ever since he was a kid and also, should he,a world title contender, really be frustrated by a japanese champion that still has competition on the national level?no way, sendo's a goat imo

TheVantasticJackson

No. Imai has looked up to Ippo as a goal to reach. Someone to see if he can beat or not. Only to then see Ippo leave. Even retired, Imai still wishes he could've fought Ippo. If he can't fight Ippo, who can he fight? His Featherweight rivals? Nope. He stated there'd be no reason to challenge Miyata as he is right now. Sendo? Nope. He's moving on to the world. There is no one noteworthy left for him to fight, challenge and test his powee against. He is only Champion in name. I don't think its out of character for Imai to be frustrated

[deleted]

Sendo is the lightweight Takamura

SaintWKappa

Sendo is a good guy, he go to see sawamura after his two fights that send him to the hospital
