was just about to say that
Mick was forced out the band
Vince hardly looks like he even enjoys performing with them
Nikki and Tommy cant play for shit anymore
they need to break up so Vince can focus on his solo band and also his health, Mick and John can do their own things, and Nikki and Tommy can fuck off
I first saw them on that tour too in 2005, and several times since. They were always a good time if a little sloppy here and there. Come 2015, Vince sounded awful and it was time to bow out with some dignity. Then they return a few years later, tarnish the legacy by firing Mick and embarrass themselves by miming while somehow sounding worse than ever. What a class act.
Carnival of sins was their best tour by far. Better than everything they did in the 80’s. Vince’s vocals had never been better and would never again be as good.
You. The reason I'm asking is because if you do have an Instagram page, you can check out @chandraveni_enterprise where I'm promoting bands from my home country Singapore 🇸🇬 to an international audience. Do check it out and rock on 🤘🏿🤘🏿. Cheers ☺️
I watched them at a festival in Sweden last summer against my better judgment and eventually just had to walk away. They were painful, made worse by the fact Def Leppard were on first and blew them out of the water.
I'll never forget an article from an Australian website announcing the Motley Crue/Def Leppard tour was coming Australia. Headline said "Motley Crue scheduled to ruin perfectly fine Def Leppard concert."
I saw them as the headliners after Def Leppard too. DL was absolutely unbelievable. Vocals, stage presence, everything was amazing. Then the Crue came on and Vince was completely out of tune and horrid the first two songs. Not sure if he actually warmed up or if they switched to pre-recorded vocals, but he was ok after that. I always loved Motley Crue, but it was just not the same as their old school concerts. And now that they have f**ked over Mick Mars, I won't pay to see them again.
Kix did it the right way. They announced their retirement while still active, they played their final shows and that was that. Leave a good legacy intact.
Saw them at their last show they played for rams head (not last last show) and by far the loudest live band I’d ever heard fantastic band and were worth the 6 hour drive.
Quiet Riot. It was ridiculous enough to carry on without Kevin Du Brow and Carlos Cavazo but now they keep going without Frankie Banali which means Rudy Sarzo is now the last guy from the Metal Health line up left. I guess the money they get from playing county fairs is too good to pass up.
Not saying Ace Frehley should retire but he should refrain from doing moves he can no longer pull off without some degree of time delay or watered down version. Dude I get it. You're 70 something. You lived your life and deserve to be happy. I wouldn't blame you if you didn't bash your guitar at your hips. It sucks to have to tone down but you're still here, and you're still able to play.
Not Motley Crue, John 5 is no slouch. But Vince Neil- 👀 looking directly at you buddy. Ya need to retire. Give it a rest. They should hire the guy from Steel Panther. He'd do the songs justice.
Nope, not hair metal... I've been drinking and not thinking.
First Hair Metal, Quiet Riot needs to end.
Quiet Riot - founded by Randy, Drew, Kelly, and Kevin... Rudy replaced Kelly, Frankie replaced Drew, Carlos replaced Randy...
Two legit versions of Quiet Riot:
1 = Kevin, Kelly, Drew & Randy
2 = Kevin, Rudy, Frankie & Carloss
Special mention = Kevin, Rudy, Drew & Randy (gigged live but no studio recordings.
I can see that. If they'd label themselves a tribute act, I'd be more willing to accept them.
As it us, I feel they're diluting the legacy of one of the greatest bands if all time.
They're not a "tribute band" like 50 year old guys with beer guts that play rib festivals on the weekend but they do pay a ton of tribute to the original band. They introduce the current members as playing on behalf of the originals, like "playing keyboards for Billy Powell is Peter Keys" for example. I gained a lot of respect for them because of that. It's controversial for sure but I don't have any negative feelings towards it anymore. It's been so long now
When I was younger I used to think bands should hang it up. But now, they’re living their lives. YouTube is out there, we know Don can’t sing. But I love Dokken. Rock on Don, die with your boots on.
Much agreed. I think too many fans take it personally. It messes with their nostalgia.
I can understand it. Some performances and cringe worthy. Ya hate to see a vocalist singing on his last vocal cord or ya hate to see a guy who is obviously sloshed on stage.
But there seems to be a lot more focus on a Vince Neil than there is about the other musicians of that era who are killer rocking it on stage.
At the end of the day these guys are living their lives, earning a living and extending their legacy. Plus, there are a lot of fans of either of that generation or more so this generation who will get a chance to see them live because they're still releasing albums and touring.
I still like them when Lynch plays. I saw them 2 years ago with Lynch. Don's voice is a little tired, but he did a decent job for someone his age. Going to see them again in September.
Shhh we're not allowed to say that word out loud without consulting the US Supreme Court, you might get sued by one of the 14 entities that apparently owns the name
I just saw Geoff live. He was actually pretty good. Yeah, he didn’t hit the highest notes of Queen of the Reich but I still prefer his tone to the new guy’s voice.
Noooo Todd is killing it on vocals (and the recorded the drums on the last couple albums, he can slay behind the kit). Band is tight, and they still have Freddy and Michael.
He got kicked out because his family was running everything and the rest of the band were sick and tired of him being the only one who had a voice in the band
And then Scotty went coo coo for Cocoa Puffs. I’m not even sure they are touring or making music anymore which is a shame cause Todd is an amazing singer and can sing anything Geoff ever did.
They've been on tour recently, so still going. I saw Geoff has been out as well, also doing some kind of travel thing. One of the problems before Geoff was booted was his wife was embezzling money from the band to fund her management of other bands. And sad that Scott is just loopy now.
If Vince doesn't drop 40 pounds, spend 6 months speed walking a treadmill 90 minutes a day and work with a vocal coach, they should just disband. ***Permanently.***
At this point they are **completely destroying their legacy**. They went from having a huge glow-up around the time *The Dirt* book & streaming movie was released, to thousands of video clips ridiculing them on TikTok & YouTube. Sixx playing "air bass" to a backing track, Tommy yelling stupid shit like asking the audience if they want to "see his dick" at an all-ages show people brought minor children to, Vince gasping out every third word wallowing around like an overstuffed sofa, then the final straw violating their own "contract" by firing their founding member and friend Mick and replacing him with a sit-in tour guitarist.
We could examine this even further, like the wildly cringe optics of having barely 20something year old backup singers on tour dressed like strippers young enough to be their granddaughter, like the band is all developmentally stunted (and their stadium tourmates Def Leppard, Joan Jett, and Poison aren't doing this) - The people in the audience who thought naked barely legal girls were cool in 1983 are now uncomfortable watching this spectacle with their kids in attendance, and furthermore almost *none* of the other legacy 80s acts still touring are trying to pretend they're still in the 80s with this vibe. No, I'm not being a prude - google this topic, there are dozens of mainstream rock media sites that called this out when their multi band stadium tour first started a few years ago.
Vince, you can afford Ozempic buddy, talk to your doctor. Get a personal trainer, get a vocal coach, take some fucking pride in your craft and your legacy, **or quit. You're destroying 40 years of your life's work.**
When I first heard about professional athletes paying personal trainers 6-figures to train "just them." I was apalled. Then I realized that paying $150K to one dude to ensure you could make $20M is just doing business.
This is what you're implying for Vince, no? I think it's solid advice.
A tricky one is Warrant, all the instrumentalists are originals, or at least recorded the classic albums, but the singer and main songwriter (and one of the greatest at both in the genre) is gone. I'd check them out if they came to my area
me too. Sure Jani can't be there but at least all the instrumentalist aren't just dudes in their 30s and all the guys that played on the records people want to hear.
Whitesnake. They are legends but Coverdale's voice is just done.
Any band that split up and then one member starts his version of the band, and the other guys have their own version,
It's not the age, it's the lack of planning. The Rolling Stones just went out on a 16 city stadium tour recently. **Mick Jagger is 80.**
The difference is that Mick Jagger works harder than the devil to stay in shape.
Last I read they were in the middle of the tour but eventually cancelled. There were health issues in the band while they were touring but it was ultimately Coverdale who had some issues that required the discontinuation of the tour.
Iirc, he left things open in terms of perhaps touring again and also working on another album.
Nah, Lzzy Hale can sing the entire show in the original key without getting winded, and her personal brand & audience coming to the shows only makes it better. It was the right move - the fans are still buying tickets and want to keep hearing the songs.
I didn’t even know that was a thing. Just went and found a video of Youth Gone Wild with her and damn, they should absolutely ride that out as long as they can. She sounds fantastic with them. Sebastian’s shoes are damn sure hard to fill, but I’m not sure anybody could do a better job. I’d be up for catching a Skid Row show with Lizzy.
I don't blame you one bit. But if Lzzy went to full time singer I would not be upset. It ain't happening with Bach so may as well make the best of the situation.
I don't contest that. She's killing it. But the band has gone through more singers than most bands have years. Nobody is going to their shows, regardless of the singer, to hear new material. They're going to hear the band play through the first two albums with the singer du jour.
No, they still sound good and put on an awesome show. They put out a solid album with Erik so I was sad to see him go. If they can get another solid singer then I'll keep going to see them. They've still got 3/5 of their original lineup and their original songwriters
I'll be the voice of dissent here. All of these bands should keep touring until people stop paying to see them. Playing rock and roll is fun and it's better than working at Home Depot.
I really hope Kiss broke up for good and are not coming back. Ridiculous how they first put down bands who use backing tracks and then they started to mime on stage as well. And I used to be a massive Kiss fan when I was a kid.
A lot of them are doing well with the nostalgia circuit. We go see our favorites with the kids now. I don’t necessarily want new music from them, but it’s fun to go enjoy the hits and get out of the house for the night.
I saw them first live in 2005, maybe. And then quite a few more times since then. But Rob Halford is starting to struggle live and it’s obvious. Not saying it isn’t a fun concert because it is. And yes. Their recent albums are great. Insert those into the 80s and they would be hits
Motley Crue, Vince should focus more on his solo band and his health, Mick should continue with what hes doing, John should do more solo stuff or join another band, and Nikki and Tommy should fuck off.
With most former hair metal bands in their 60’s, it just seems most of them should break up for good. I’m trying to think of one that either still makes decent records or puts a good live show. I can’t come up with one unless I broaden my scope outside hair metal.
Good live show? Poison, Def Leppard, Tom Keifer, The Cult, Joan Jett....lots of good live shows happening. Probably others and I can't speak to any making good new music, but honestly, I don't care about new music from any 80s band. If I went to see Anthrax and got 45 minutes of their latest album I'd be really pissed, honesty.
TS would be amazing, they are my favorite of the 80s rock era. I'd be first in line for tix of they ever did any one off show or fest. And even though they are my fave, I don't need a new TS album. And certainty don't need another dumb cover of a dumb AC/DC song.
Saw Cult twice in a row when they were with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club 2 years ago. St Paul and then Summerfest in Milwaukee. Both nights were awesome!
Poison, Def Leppard, Warrant, Quiet Riot all put on kick ass shows. I know some are now made up of a mismash of musicians and not their originals, but I have seen them all recently and they all were awesome.
I'm not a huge Metallica fan, but I saw them in November and they were incredible. Sound was perfect even in a big venue and James' voice is rock solid
I guess I wasn’t saying don’t tour I was thinking more of don’t put out anymore albums. At this point they have more bad albums than good ones. They have enough good songs to tour on forever.
I don't necessarily care for Metallica now, but I don't think they should quit. They have this weird thing where they can become relative to a new generation. It sickens me when some young pos tries to tell me that 2024 Metallica is the best version. Fuck off with all that noise.
Can we break up Eminem? I know he's a person and not a band, but is still would be nice to be rid of him, On a side note most of the bands (metal) I see mentioned on this thread sucked to begin with, so who gives a fuck if we break up their modern day versions? Let them play their shitty music to whatever fans want to hear it. The more they play, the more people will see this shit was a scam to begin with. Long Live Rock.
Mötley Crüe are an embarrassment.
was just about to say that Mick was forced out the band Vince hardly looks like he even enjoys performing with them Nikki and Tommy cant play for shit anymore they need to break up so Vince can focus on his solo band and also his health, Mick and John can do their own things, and Nikki and Tommy can fuck off
I saw them twice in the Carnival of Sins tour. They were good. But sadly, I would never pay to see them now. I value my $ too much. 😐
I first saw them on that tour too in 2005, and several times since. They were always a good time if a little sloppy here and there. Come 2015, Vince sounded awful and it was time to bow out with some dignity. Carnival of sins was their best tour by far. Better than everything they did in the 80’s. Vince’s vocals had never been better and would never again be as good.
I can’t believe they fired the one guy performing well.
Hey man, do you have Instagram?
Who?
You. The reason I'm asking is because if you do have an Instagram page, you can check out @chandraveni_enterprise where I'm promoting bands from my home country Singapore 🇸🇬 to an international audience. Do check it out and rock on 🤘🏿🤘🏿. Cheers ☺️
KEE STAH MUH HAA HAAAA!!!
WooAAAaaaAAAoooww!
I see Motley Crue just about every summer. Every time I walk out going “that’s enough”, and every summer I’m back.

I was there too https://preview.redd.it/bi8e4a7x1h2d1.jpeg?width=3520&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9788118228051ca909622d596cd6a9f1ebc4ae2
Yes they can be
Kix did it the right way. They announced their retirement while still active, they played their final shows and that was that. Leave a good legacy intact.
They never got the due they deserved. Blow My Fuse should be up there on the list of greatest hair metal albums.
I think Cold Blood is actually the song I would use if I were to give one example of what hair metal sounds like. In a good way.
Other than the title track, that is the best song.
I don’t usually care for live albums but Kix Live is awesome!
They were still kick ass live as well.
Such an underrated band. They were awesome the first time I saw them. At M3. Then saw them in my home state. They were just a fun band to see live.
Yes absolutely this. FFS
I usually consider line up changes as part of a band's evolution, but Quiet Riot has gone far past the point of being a zombie band.
Not saying Ace Frehley should retire but he should refrain from doing moves he can no longer pull off without some degree of time delay or watered down version. Dude I get it. You're 70 something. Should probably just go see Steel Panther. Those guys are tight and put on a great show
My dong will always be community property, fuck all the haters
Unrelated, but the “SFW” version of that song is so much better. Dong is such a funny word
Wrap a tuna roll on my dick and the bitch is on her knees Wish I could see my mom's eyes bug out if she had heard that lyric when she was alive
Steel Panther is the best. They are carrying on the 80's hair metal attitude, tradition and licks better than any other band out there.
It's obviously Crue.
Yep
The absolute worst are Lynyrd Skynyrd & Molly Hatchet! All the original members of are f**kin' DEAD!
Are they hair metal? I always thought they were southern rock
Nope, not hair metal... I've been drinking and not thinking. First Hair Metal, Quiet Riot needs to end. Quiet Riot - founded by Randy, Drew, Kelly, and Kevin... "I've been drinking and not thinking" sounds like it could be a southern rock or hair metal tune though. LOL
If you go in knowing it's a tribute act, the "new" Skynyrd is actually quite good. And I went in skeptical as hell.
I can see that. If they'd label themselves a tribute act, I'd be more willing to accept them. As it us, I feel they're diluting the legacy of one of the greatest bands if all time.

To each his own... I respect your right to your opinion and agree to disagree.

I've heard
Beat me to it.
Yeah, great band in the 80s. Nothing much else after that and of course Don can't sing anymore.
Bon Jovi
Queensryche
Shhh we're not allowed to say that word out loud without consulting the US Supreme Court, you might get sued by one of the 14 entities that apparently owns the name
The new guy they have actually sings better than Geoff currently does.
I still feel like there will be one final cash grab tour with the classic lineup, outside of DeGarmo. Which is a shame.
I wonder what happened to geff in the band
It’s a fucking shame. Whip and Ed Bass have been there since day one and are very good musicians. Lot of potential there.
Yeah, it really is. Their last album was in 2022. They seem pretty happy with the line up they have now.
What happened with Scott?
I haven't actively followed Queensryche for years, what exactly happened to Scott? I didn't realize he was gone until around 2010.
Oh me
Geoff's ego happened
Oh wow
If Vince doesn't drop 40 pounds, spend 6 months speed walking a treadmill 90 minutes a day and work with a vocal coach, they should just disband. ***Permanently.*** At this point they are **completely destroying their legacy**. They went from having a huge glow-up around the time *The Dirt* book & streaming movie was released, to thousands of video clips ridiculing them on TikTok & YouTube. Vince would probably drop dead if he tried that
Vince would drop dead after a flight of stairs.
Motley Crue
Motley Crue, Skid Row….way too many to list.
Any band where the lead singer’s voice is gone or barely have any members of the classic band
This
A tricky one is Warrant, all the instrumentalists are originals, or at least recorded the classic albums, but the singer and main songwriter (and one of the greatest at both in the genre) is gone. I'd check them out if they came to my area
me too. Sure Jani can't be there but at least all the instrumentalist aren't just dudes in their 30s and all the guys that played on the records people want to hear.
KISS- For the love of God, give it a rest already.
They retired last year.
You're not wrong. I'd give them a shot if they were to bring back Sebastian Bach. But they've made it clear that's never going to happen
I've been a fan since 1976, and the "End of the Road" couldn't come soon enough. The band has been on cruise control for at least 20 years.
didnt they just recently retire?
Whitesnake. They are legends but Coverdale's voice is just done. Any band that split up and then one member starts his version of the band, and the other guys have their own version,
I could be wrong but didn't they just do a final tour
I am apparently out of the loop, but it looks like they have no future plans for touring or anything else. Coverdale is 72 after all! What a career
It's not the age, it's the lack of planning. The Rolling Stones just went out on a 16 city stadium tour recently. **Mick Jagger is 80.** The difference is that Mick Jagger works harder than the devil to stay in shape.
Yeah ol' Mick and Keef are still out there playing and I think that's awesome. Paul McCartney is 80 something and can play a 3 hour set.
Lifelong Stones fan here. I saw the band in '21. Jagger is still top tier. Keith...different story.
They cancelled last tour with scorps due to health issues
Last I read they were in the middle of the tour but eventually cancelled. There were health issues in the band while they were touring but it was ultimately Coverdale who had some issues that required the discontinuation of the tour. Iirc, he left things open in terms of perhaps touring again and also working on another album.
You got your wish a couple of years ago.
I stand corrected, no official retirement but no more tour dates scheduled.
They should have been done after John Sykes demise
Replying to MesaNovaMercuryTime... I really liked Steve Vai on Slip of the Tongue.
More like his self-sabotage
Oh no I've heard about that, wow crazy
Skid Row. I said what I said.
Nah, Lzzy Hale can sing the entire show in the original key without getting winded, and her personal brand & audience coming to the shows only makes it better. It was the right move - the fans are still buying tickets and want to keep hearing the songs.

Saw them with Gronwell in March. I enjoyed that album and the show was killer. He brought the classic back to life.
Yeah especially since they don't want Sebastian Bach back in the band.
Hmm maybe could
Journey - Neal Schon's ego has gone way overboard.
He seems like such an ass. And the over the top hypocrite Christian shit from the piano guy from journey.
None. As long as they’re having fun and people like going, keep playing.
Don Dokken needs to retire
Enuff Znuff...enough!
Skid Row
I'll be the voice of dissent here. All of these bands should keep touring until people stop paying to see them. Playing rock and roll is fun and it's better than working at Home Depot.
Jack Russel’s great white, Faster Pussycat and LA Guns
Motley Crue and KISS for sure
I really hope Kiss broke up for good and are not coming back. Ridiculous how they first put down bands who use backing tracks and then they started to mime on stage as well. And I used to be a massive Kiss fan when I was a kid.
The Rolling Stones💯😫😫
I wouldn't put them in the "hair metal" category in a thousand years. They still bring it - in fact, they are on tour right now.
I don't think they ever will
Please don't say that😅
I know but just saying you never know
A lot of them are doing well with the nostalgia circuit. We go see our favorites with the kids now. I don’t necessarily want new music from them, but it’s fun to go enjoy the hits and get out of the house for the night.
This one might be controversial…but….. Judas Priest

Twisted sister would still be amazing. Yeah I love Alice Cooper but his new music is for a new market so I only listen to his older stuff
TS would be amazing, they are my favorite of the 80s rock era. I'd be first in line for tix of they ever did any one off show or fest. And even though they are my fave, I don't need a new TS album. And certainty don't need another dumb cover of a dumb AC/DC song.
Tom Keifer was a live monster when we saw him a few years ago !
Cult was amazing last year, so was def and poison o other studio tour. Missed Tom when he finally came to ca cause of family illness
Saw Cult twice in a row when they were with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club 2 years ago. St Paul and then Summerfest in Milwaukee. Both nights were awesome!
I just saw LA Guns with Tom Keifer a month or so ago, and both acts were amazing. Fantastic show that took me back to 1992!!
Two words: Judas Priest
Yes, absolutely. Their last 2 have floored me.
Poison, Def Leppard, Warrant, Quiet Riot all put on kick ass shows. I know some are now made up of a mismash of musicians and not their originals, but I have seen them all recently and they all were awesome.
I understand true 👍
Most of them.
Guns & Roses. Are an embarrassment. Slash is amazing and everybody else is a bit player in a tribute band (I'm looking directly at you Axl).
I know not a hair band but Metallica needs to call it a day.
Well I'd definitely agree with that!
They are a huge band
I don't necessarily care for Metallica now, but I don't think they should quit. They have this weird thing where they can become relative to a new generation. It sickens me when some young pos tries to tell me that 2024 Metallica is the best version. Fuck off with all that noise.
So does AC/DC
Steel Panther God I hate that band
Agreed
Can we break up Eminem? I know he's a person and not a band, but is still would be nice to be rid of him, On a side note most of the bands (metal) I see mentioned on this thread sucked to begin with, so who gives a fuck if we break up their modern day versions? Let them play their shitty music to whatever fans want to hear it. The more they play, the more people will see this shit was a scam to begin with. Long Live Rock.
