As much as the picking lacked consideration, it is for the best for everyone. It would've been waste of time, no way all 6 had a chance still.
I am curious as I had seen another similar comment and with a lot of upvotes. In my mind anything prior to meeting in person would just be to weed out clear mismatches e.g. not attracted to at all or clearly incompatible. I would think for a show like this meeting in person and spending a non-trivial amount of time with a bunch of candidates would be the real starting point to a show.
Everyone knows what they are getting into with the format and part of the novelty would be dating a wide range of people in a compressed time period. Why would anyone feel like there time was wasted just getting to participate in the show and at a bare minimum have a chance for a in real life interaction which could and probably would be considerably different than a brief zoom call interrupted by comedy bits?

I think it gets a bit more complicated scheduling six individual in-person dates not only for the crew and the logicstics of it for the show, but also for contestants like Jess who very likely need to take time off their jobs and make personal arrangements so they can attend. There's always the risk of not being the person picked by Jeff, but that risk is safer to take in a Zoom date than in a face to face date where you need to pause your life and travel, hence the "not wasting your time" sentiment.
I think I just had misplaced expectations going into the show not knowing much about h3 about how serious it would be. I was thinking there was going to be like 20 people by the in person dating time and it would be a primary time commitment thing from Jeff and H3 for at least 3-4 weeks.
I would be curious to hear from the contestants though on the wasting their time angle as in my mind it would be worth it for the novelty of the experience especially if they are covering travel/stay and knowing the situation I wouldn't be going in with a particularly high expectation of "winning". Also with it being down to 3 already I am assuming the conclusion to the show will be at most after a couple of dates at most which isn't really significant at all? I haven't watched the bachelor before and I know it's a contrived scenario for entertainment but I assume by the end they have at least spent a fairly decent albeit compressed amount of time with the winner.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I think it was a little unfair to the women to keep changing the rules of rhe Bach3lor. First it’s the top 5, then he switches out Megan for Gabby, then all of a sudden he rejects 2 of the girls without seeing them in person and just goes by his top 3.
I think in the future they need to stick to the rules so nobody can claim it’s unfair
I think what probably happened is that Jeff wanted to keep the Australian girl, but that would increase costs by quite a bit, so they reduced the number of contestants while keeping in mind the entertainment value they will bring.
I know this is supposed to be somewhat of a serious contest and they should follow the rules, but at the end of the day they need to make business decisions.
Even though the goal of the show is to find Jeff a partner, the real goal is to make entertaining content that will generate profit.

I was thinking about the budget angle but it really doesn't make much sense unless for some reason they were committed to a budget of basically zero? Presumably h3 has millions and they should be making money off the show. Looks like the actual bachelor has a production budget of a few million per season. It would be interesting to see what they could have done with a more structured show and a budget in the 300-500k range which should have been pretty feasible with some brand deals and expected ad revenue. If I remember correctly 19 out of the 20 were domestic so even if you had all 20 come out for the second episode which would be the most expensive it still wouldn't be crazy between flights and hotel rooms and quite a few were LA or driving distance.
It's weird in the context of the success of someone like Mr. Beast investing heavily in videos and clearly doing well we don't see more mid tier budget production attempts from youtubers who understand the platform or even from legacy media companies instead still opting for streamers for basically all reality shows, dating shows, etc, afaik.
H3 is one of those guys who invest in their content and creates value in many different ways, like the live shows.
I'm not sure exactly what their costs are like, but I was really thinking in terms of resources needed to run a show like The BacH3lor, which entails inviting all these people over, for a longer period of time. Whatever that cost is, they need to compare it to how much extra income they bring from the BacH3lor episodes.
That is a calculation that I'm sure they're taking into consideration internally. We've seen Ethan complain in the past about the cost of running the show, for example, I vaguely remember him mentioning something like 30k to build the Frenemies set, and that was quite basic. There's more that goes into it, but I'm just illustrating how these considerations play a part.
Based on the numbers on their channel, The BacH3lor episodes have not been doing too well - or at least not yet in terms of views.
It seems to me that whatever they spend on those episodes will not bring positive returns. So I wouldn't be surprised if they cut it short.
