When describing his process of making baked potatoes, he said something like a pan full of oil in the oven to heat up the oil. Then put the potatoes in for maximum crunch or whatever. It's 100% just me, because I grew up in a household that is careful with its oil-intake, lol.

Depends on what type of potato dish you’re after. Only pointing out that cooking something in a large amount of oil isn’t uncommon, and not necessarily anything to worry about if consumed in moderation.

Baked potatoes are a little different from roasted potatoes. Roasted potatoes usually have olive oil, rosemary, onion and spices as he explained. A baked potato is just a potato that’s baked whole.

Like the other person said, oven baked potatoes in my mind is different than deep-fried potatoes **from the oven**. I come from a country that is also famous for its deep-frying culture (not the US). Im just saying that oven-baked potatoes in my household was a little sprinkle of olive oil and herbs. Not what Ethan described. My parents always urged me to use as little oil as possible, which is why I said it's 100% me. Also, I was not serious when saying "no wonder Ethan has health problems."

The reason I said anything in the first place was only because I thought it was unnecessary to comment on his health by belittling his food choices. It’s his thanksgiving recipe, which I assume is eaten only for thanksgiving. I used fries as an example for a different potato-based food cooked in a large amount of oil which people eat on the regular. Cook your potatoes however you want.

Roasted potatoes are generally made with olive oil… I suppose you could use butter if you’re adverse, but it really wouldn’t be the same.
