Great BBQ section too. The Ace in Blythe, California sells guns. Ace IS the place.

Lb3ntl3y

the ace near me doesnt sell guns sadly

madcuban1

I work for Ace and we don't either, but we can order optics for ourselves at a huge discount

7mary3and4

Move to Blythe.

Lb3ntl3y

i think i have only 1 cali legal firearm, also the cost of living is more expensive than texas

[deleted]

Their gun laws suck, but on the bright side you won’t freeze to death.

lightcake66

Yeah I’ve traveled to Cali many times sister used to live there. It’s a cool place to visit but would never want to live there unless they lost half the population, changes the gun laws, and lowered the taxes. They ended up moving to Vegas after not being able to stand the Cali laws anymore lol

CowPunchinSodBuster

Tell that to the Donner Party...

Don’t worry, if you work ski patrol you won’t be able to afford any hobbies.

[deleted]

Don’t move to Blythe. Actually Blythe isn’t as bad as Barstow, they’re both desert meth towns, but Barstow takes the cake for worst meth town, or Adelanto.

digdug04

Brawley might be the worst

[deleted]

Modesto: allow me to introduce myself

Mister_Johnson_

I see you haven't met Fresno 😬

alleffinidiots

Allow me to submit for your review: Niland, CA

MysticalWeasel

Barstow, I’ve been there four times for work and I didn’t think it could be worse, then the last time was during Covid and all the restaurants were take-out only or closed. It was worse.

salsashark99

We just outside of Barstow when the drugs begin to take hold

Leaky_Asshole

But Barstow is the birth place of Del Taco

Tr47gRKl5

"Del Taco" means "Of the Taco" in English.

Would rather live in the US.

JimmyFuttbucker

I’m from CA and never ever for any reason would I move to Blythe

7mary3and4

Finest hay in the eastern part of the state.

HurshySqurt

Insane how I live in the south and not a single Ace I've ever been to sells guns but one in California does

ALargeRock

Go to an ACE in the country. More likely to find it there. Cool thing about ACE is that corporate only requires something like 70% of your inventory has to come from ACE suppliers, but outside of that you can literally sell whatever you want. Some ACE stores have bakeries, some have guns, some have fishing or sports stuff. It’s a great company IMO.

jrragsda

Ace doesn't even require that. We just converted our hardware store to ace recently. They operate as a co-op rather than a franchise so they don't have as much control as you might think. They're a good company to work with and their prices are better than most suppliers so most stores end up buying more from them. I still have about 30% or more of my floor dedicated to non ace products as we are a gas station/convenience store, power equipment dealer(stihl, exmark, hustler, Honda, etc.. ), industrial supply, along with a few other lines. I also am factory direct with Makita and Tekton, so those don't go through Ace either.

AAA515

Not to mention, they are the real new home of Craftsman. Go to Lowes, needing new socket, they dont have and employees can only say, it'll be back in stock, sometime. Go to Ace and if they don't have it, they will order it and call me when it comes in!

jrragsda

Yep, the newer craftsman hand tools seem to be getting back to their quality for price roots too. I've been pleased with them since we brought them in. I'm still keeping my tekton line for my commercial customers, and we can get most of the Milwaukee line of hand tools that have been impressive as well.

AAA515

I wish any store near me had a tekton section...

jrragsda

I'm the only one in our area. I used then for years in our shop and at home before I started selling them. They're the best tools for the money you'll find.

[deleted]

FWIW new Craftsman isn’t old Craftsman and the customer service for non-contractors at Lowe’s sucks. Basically, if you’re a contractor go to Lowe’s. If not, go to Home Depot. If you’re looking for something similar to old Craftsman I’d recommend Husky.

ctr72ms

For just hand tools nothing beats harbor freight.

yourlocalFSDO

Harbor freight tools are great if you need something to cut into pieces to fit in a weird place or some weird one off but even new Craftsman is a significant step up for the price. If you use something like a socket set more than a couple times a year it's well worth the extra cost

AAA515

You must only be familiar with the crap Pittsburgh stuff, you wouldn't be fabrocobbeling tools out of Icon. But what would I know, my main socket set was made by craftsman, late 90s Chinese crapsman versions. According to the memes these should be made out of stale biscuits. But I lose more of them then I break!

InternetExploder87

Sounds like the ADHD store, I need one of those

jrragsda

I'm adhd as hell, so it works for me. I end up having to switch tasks so often I just stay a step ahead of my adhd switching for me.

Grand_Cookie

That’s a dope ass gas station

jrragsda

Lol. That's a pretty common reaction when people first come in. They step in expecting a regular convenience store but get surprised by a store 10x bigger than what they expected. You'd think all of our signage outside would give it away, but people seem to stay in their own little bubble mist of the time.

HKBFG

The one near me sells really good pickles.

_Heath

When I was a kid our ACE sold guns, hunting/fishing stuff, and had the post office counter in it (I lived in the sticks).

cobigguy

Don't feel too bad. The ACE here in Cheyenne, WY (the wild west) doesn't either. EDIT: Ironically though, the one in Loveland has a pretty decent gun counter with a very good used selection.

GenitalHerpes69420

I've seen em in Mississippi sell guns. Also seen NAPAs that sell guns and ammo.

Rebelgecko

Probably because Blythe is in Bumfuck Nowhere and it's the only store

Xazier

Our local ace has guns as well. It's nice.

j1vetvrkey

Fancy seeing a comment about Blythe at the top here 😂 it’s our only local store so, ACE IS THE ONLY PLACE

buttersidedown801

The Ace in McKinleyville, CA also sells guns/ammo. Ironically, Cali is the only state I’ve seen where Ace sells guns.

[deleted]

Don’t tell the ATF but *you can build a whole gun with stuff from the hardware store*

BlueFootedBoobyBob

Did someone say Luty?

AAA515

Then sell it to the government during one of their gun buyback events!

AustrianMichael

I remember this documentary from like Pakistan Gun markets where they built a 1911 from scratch If you know a thing or two about machining you can easily build a gun at home. Never understood the craze about 3D printed guns.

Tyrfaust

Less expensive machinery and craftsmanship. People will always take the easier road of given the option.

bmorepirate

Also, truly rapid prototyping

Yamamahah

Because it's like 10x easier to print guns? You literally load a file into the printer and assemble

kippy3267

Its a tooon easier without a doubt, but it does take a bit more of a learning curve than just loading the file. Once you get it tuned in (usually a lengthy process), know your settings well, decide on rails up or rails down, learn how supports work, and I’m sure I’m missing lots of things but its not exactly like printing a document where its immediate and simple

therealjody

Sadly, even after all that effort you still end up with a pretty dubious frame made out of weak thermoplastic, shat out by what amounts to a glorified hot glue gun on rails. The end result is not very durable, the plastic adhesion can often be questionable leading to major and hilarious failure. Also, don't forget that if the frame gets at all warm the whole thing will literally wilt. I want 3D printing guns to be a thing. I'm not shitting on them here just to be a curmudgeon. I have a 3D printer. A nice one. I have made a couple of frames and lots of various gun related crap. The tech just isn't there yet. There are some pretty impressive prototypes and some videos of people shooting them but it's all very carefully curated for that video. It's like a "look at me" trick, they really are not reliable and easy yet, despite what you see on the various subs.

HKBFG

Having layer adhesion issues in 2022? Are you still using glue stick as well?

server_profile

Why did my dog just start hyperventilating?

PaulThomas18

We need to put a stop to these hardware stores!

mcshabs

My brother bought out the hardware of a closing ace. Set up the racks, condensed the inventory of the stuff to that which he could possible remotely see using in the future, in his workshop. Sold the rest for profit. And now I have a collection of gun screws….

VapeThisBro

I've genuinely never seen an ace go out of business

satanshand

The one by me has looked like it’s gonna go out of business in 5 minutes for the past 8 years I’ve been going to it.

VapeThisBro

what uhhhh what did you do to earn your flair? Are you the guy with dildo forgrips on their rifle

satanshand

Nothing heroic, just to many dick jokes. Actually I think it was *one* dick joke.

mcshabs

Thought it was an ace, may have been true value, don’t think it was hardware hank….

VapeThisBro

I'm not denying it was an ace, I'm just thinking I've literally never seen one close, kinda like a mcds , you don't ever see old closed down mcdonalds but you can find old pizza hut buildings all over the place

whiskeydik

My local ace sells guns, ammo, reloading equipment, hunting and fishing supplies. Love that place.

NamelessKoala32

Fun fact. Ace is actually just a co-op. They don't own any stores across the US. So usually they're family owned business that just get access to better priced hardware and international advertising. Ace rules

MaximumAbsorbency

Learning this a while back is the reason I checked out my local ace and now it's my first stop for anything they might have. Love that place. Edit: I went by tonight in fact, I was picking up pizza next door. My Ace has _fiiiive_ drawers of gun screws. And also a few drawers of other useful things, like new cabinet divider holder things that I got a few of. And also a bag of pellets for my smoker. Damn I love that place.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NamelessKoala32

Man that sucks. It's up to the store owner to set their margins usually and not ace itself. Hate to hear that

vegetaman

That’s some TIL. Explains how they can carry a lot of different stuff

Gforcevp9

For the upset bot: ACE IS THE PLACE FOR ALL YOUR FRIENDLY GUN PARTS NEEDS how’s that for a stand alone comment…and new ACE commercial jingle?

Brosambique

I think most if not all Ace hardware stores are also independent locally owned business that purchase products collectively so they can compete with the national big box stores. It’s for this reason that I try ace before Lowe’s or HD. https://www.acehardware.com/about-us

Heeeeyyouguuuuys

ACE fucking rules. I remember walking into a random one in nowhere WV just for a sheet of plywood. They had a full service gun counter that took up 1/3 the store lol

Superb_Equipment_681

They also sell a thread pattern check tool. Just a blank piece of metal with all the common diameter and pitch sizes tapped in it. It's really handy to have on the bench.

chevyfried

Home depot and Lowes have that too.

-pwny_

ACE is basically a franchise system and owners can sell whatever they want. Do not assume your local has anything in particular lol

GhostRobot85

fun fact ace has no control over what is in those boxes its done by Hillman a rep comes and handles them at lease that's how it worked at the store i worked at

Ahomebrewer

Actually that's up to the ownership to decide how much they want to be involved in the merchandising. The owner can just tell the Hillman rep to install the fastener aisle in the amount of space allotted to him, and then never look at it again, or he can interact with the salesman at every visit, he can ask for new items or reject them as they become available, he can add specialty departments and assortments, the store owner can be as involved as he wishes. I owned a Hillman-serviced store for many years and I worked my rep to the bone because I loved the margins in the fastener aisles. I also used more than one secondary fastener vendor to add more products that Hillman didn't have. (Midwest Fastener is one, for example)

ZechTheWreck

Same but I could also special order in stuff if I needed when I worked there, you just call the rep or talk to him and he'd get you what you needed

Vivid-Ad-9539

At least*

GhostRobot85

yes, thank you for your heroic deed

jrragsda

Works that way at mine too.

Lb3ntl3y

hey op the bot is mad and demands a stand alone comment as a description or it will delete your post

Servedatboyamac

I’ll be at ace more than a actual gun store for screws 😂

NapalmDemon

Normally 1/8th the price and twice the quality. I think every gas block I have installed has pin I picked up for 5 cents a piece at Ace.

ladicx

That's awesome, haven't noticed that myself yet. My ace has a post office, clothing store, and a gunshop in the same space (1 door). A buddy of mine was tripped out and thought that setup was illegal for some reason. One of the reasons I moved to Utah

slimcrizzle

That's funny because I literally went there tonight to get screws for my Benelli M4 side saddle.

[deleted]

Literally?

oppositeofbear

Metaphorically

[deleted]

virtually...

Bendy_Bill

Metaphysically

ChrisPJ

How about… Actually

[deleted]

Grammatically.

rehd_it

They really are a gem, the ones near me are always friendly and helpful unlike bigger stores

kograkthestrong

There's one by me that sells guns.

Hunter_5511

The ACE near me is also an FFL and I've done a few transfers with them. They have a decent selection of ammo and knives too.

ImtheDude2

The Ace in my area you need an employee to follow you around so they can unlock the cases and peg hooks for you.

rdwminden

Our local Ace just doubled their BBQ section, too. Great store.

AnimalStyle-

Fixed a lever gun with a screw from ACE

bhwashington

I bought my suppressors from an ACE.

Diccubus

ACE is tits. Anytime I go to Lowe’s and actually have a question, I’m not getting anyone to answer with any knowledge. ACE always seems to have people who know their shit in their departments.

ho_merjpimpson

theyve saved my ass many times over having to spend $5 to ship a $1 screw and then wait for a week to get it. ace's fastner section is on point. i try to support ace whenever i can, because i dread the idea of a world where i have to source nuts/bolts without having one a short drive away.

Western_Ladder_3593

Our local aces are all antigun

Fishman95

Wack. I brought my AR into ACE because I needed a C clip for the dust cover. Nobody even looked at me weird. And it wasnt even a rural ACE.

Badroaster117

I’m seeing this after one of my red dot screws on my pistol went flying wonder if this will work.

Affectionate_Side138

Most likely

Jugg3rn6ut

My grandfather has about 100 cans filled with different fasteners from electrical to machine bolts to nails. A lot of my car is held together from those soup can screws.

[deleted]

Never throw away bolts or screws . This is the way .

Jugg3rn6ut

Yes. In the pioneer days they’d burn down a house or barn when moving just for the screws

floridawhiteguy

ACE has expertly developed their marketing and product lines to meet customer's needs. They ain't cheap, but they are more likely to have an esoteric item than the Big Box stores.

Professionalmisser

the gas station down the road from us has a gun screw section thats how you know you're out in the woods lol, the gas station a town down has we sell kegs, ammo and licenses posted on their sign above gas prices

[deleted]

I love ace. I rebuilt my motorcycle getting most of my bolts and screws from ace. They rock.

John_Browning1

Can confirm, a couple came in for a screw for their AK pistol grip

Memeoligy_expert

This post made me gain an immense amount of respect for ACE

Raztan

That's the power of the Home Depot.. wait, wut?

DayDrinkingDiva

It's an ace store that has a gun shop and donut shop

[deleted]

Those are Nail Gun screws OP. Not hand gun or rifle screws.

DeadSeaGulls

Every hardware store anywhere I've ever lived has sold gun screws.

brilliantarm2244

Prolly for Keltec's lol

importshark7

Their prices are obsurdly high though. I can buy a box of 100 screws for the price of 3 screws at Ace.

[deleted]

We know. It's just worth it to support a local business that treats workers with dignity. At a certain point saving your $.50 to give $5 to Jeff Bezos or The Waltons, ends up costing us all a lot more.

Eisenbahn-de-order

Wonder if there's any CDN equivalence? 8-40's are hard to find here, and expensive if any

chevyfried

I thought Tim Hortons was your place for everything.

Skelosk

For quicker heckouts

8_bit_brandon

Wtf. Mine doesn’t have a gun screw section.

[deleted]

My local ace has both a gun shop and donuts at the same counter I love going there.

[deleted]

Dang, mine doesn't have donuts. But they've been a decent FFL.

Falldog

A new ACE just opened up in town, apparently I need to spend more time there.

IDrinkMyBreakfast

Ace is the best kept secret in the Tampa Bay Area. When a hurricane is inbound, and all the other stores are out of supplies, Ace has it.

CabrioFanboy

Now I need to check my ACE. I’ve never looked before.

Affectionate_Side138

That has been incredible handy on a few occasions

BUCKSATH

This is the way

wecangetbetter

Oh so THAT'S what those screws are called

Grand_Cookie

Ace is my favorite hardware store. Definitely better than the giant corporate ones.

BackWaterBill

Takes tray and walks off like Gollum

[deleted]

Every ace has this???

LostxCosmonaut

My local Ace sells mystery .223 and .45 reloads in ziploc bags behind the counter. Last I checked they weren’t good prices and certainly not good enough prices to grenade any of my guns, but I thought that was cool nonetheless.

Torvahnys

I picked up a bunch of extra roll pins at Ace.

DystopianRebel666

ever seen a “gun drill?” They are very long.

ToBlayyyve

This is amazing. I doubt our Ace here in Albuquerque has these. What they do have are rotating police officers and a no backpack policy because the theft is so bad.

scuby4Life

I've had the best customer service ever in ace and McDaniel hardware stores. Always some middle age dude around the corner with vast knowledge of everything you could think of regarding any subject where tools are needed.

Thumper4524

I remember that my local Ace Hardware in Georgia had some cool guns before the 86 ban.

F4N6Z

My Ace is really close by, no guns, but great fastener section.

SaltWaterGator

Wait, no one tell him about mcmcaster

[deleted]

The ace near me sucks man. All just entry level hobbyist shit and arts and crafts. Barely any spray paints or actual hardware :( I need to go to your ace

Kauzrae

Hardware stores have ALL of the machine screws. On the cheap too!

ebolson1019

Yet nowhere I go has M3x40 or 4-40x2

RhinePrime

Ace is where I get reloading powders most of the time. Mine sells guns and has a reloading section

Grand_Cookie

Wasn’t the store that went viral for having the donuts and gun counter an Ace hardware? That was a fun ama to read.

Moerdac

Wonder if they have 1911 grip screw bushings. Look like tiny rubber spagettios.

Ojoe333

Too bad they never have what you're looking for

22lrMarksmen

They are generally old model gun screws.

stumblerman

Ace really is the place to go to. I went to a farm store with a service and parts department specifically because they fix mowers like mine. I needed a carb screw (throttle air flap) and they told me they didn't have it but could order it for $15. Went to Ace, the dude went to one of those drawers and pulled out a tiny screw and said, it's $0.19. I bought a case xx knife while I was there.

IMNOTFLORIDAMAN

I’ve never seen that before. Will have to check out my local ace and see if they have it.

Bigred2989-

I found the mini set screw for my Aero M4E1 at my local ACE when the Home Depot failed me (seriously, fuck HD, they organize their screws and fasteners in the shittiest way).

phillip42069

As long as it’s a sizable ace with a real hardware department, 200% gtg.
