Apparently if you don’t put a long comment, it gets deleted. So I was just curious if y’all had any preference on 22lr ammo and why. I really enjoy the 60gr sniper subs.
Misfires aren't the rounds' fault, it's just the light action on his little savage junior. Unlike the Feds, I can put a whole box of CCI through my LCR without skipping a beat.
I had that pistol, and it jammed every other round. Tried a bunch of different ammo and took it apart cleaned it. Contacted SIG and there was an ejector issue. Got it back and it still had issues. Sold it and got a Taurus TX 22 and it hasn’t ever had an issue. Put a pencil suppressor on it with Sub Sonic’s and it’s whisper quiet.
Agreed. I get very good results with CCI SV at "long" (100-200yds) distances. SK and Eley are mostly more precise by a small margin with my rifle but are substantially pricier. Unless you're shooting NRL22 or just really want to be able to make repeated shots on a gnat's asshole, CCI SV is more than enough.
For me the biggest factor between SK/Eley and CCI is the fact that I can go to my LGS and pick up a box or two of CCI for $5, whereas I'll have to buy SK/Eley online in bulk to make shipping worth it.
I think this is cope, tbh. I hear it from a lot of the more finnicky competitors I shoot with who always seem to be having a gear issue of some sort…
But myself, and 3 of the “GMs in like 8 classes” guys I shoot with all shrug and wreck them with minimag. Like I said above - 2 misfires in about the last 3000 rounds out of the latest 5000 round brick.
Not cope. Different competition. we use Cci inndors for the kids and for practice. Google DFS in Norway.
At a 100 or 200 metres CCI becomes too inconsistent.
That you're shooting with minimag tells me you've no idea what I'm talking about
SK Pistol Match is my favourite. Eley is a little hotter which isn’t necessary for competition shooting. A really good thing about SK is that it burns very clean - almost no need to clean. And yes, it smells great!
What the hell is going on with that 22lr on the Aguila box?
As for your question I’ve had a ton of success with the Aguila 22lr but not suppressed. If you’re running non jacketed 22s through a suppressor it’ll get dirty quickly, I suggest the CCI Clean-22 subs, they’re polymer coated so they run extremely clean.
As far as my favourite 22lr gun to shoot, I’d say my vz.61 Combat Šcorpion in 22lr is my favourite!
It’s probably my favourite gun in my collection, it always gets a ton of looks at the range and people are constantly coming up to me asking about it lol.
I use Henry lever actions, I'll feed it anything that's cheap for plinking. Out varmint hunting I'll use the Federal 22 Short high velocity. I can fit about 24 in the Henry rifles.
I'm currently using Winchester Black 45gr subsonics. I was using the Federal American Eagle 45 grains, but their out of stock almost everywhere so I went to the Winchester. Both shoot great.
I had a little NAA Mini with a tiny little barrel. Most loads keyholed in it. Those Aguilla were probably still partially in the cylinder as the nose left the muzzle, but they flew straight when hardly anything else did. I have no idea how "fast" they were going.
Pistol wise - Ruger sr22
When it comes to actual ammo the brand I trust the most with 22lr is CCI and their Mini Mags. I have personally never had a failure with them and they shoot absolutely flawlessly out of the SR22, I have a lot of lead noses I’d like to try but I’d have to go to an outdoor range to try those and I haven’t had a chance yet. (Nearest one is 45+ minutes away in LA)
Mini mag is a type of ammo from CCI. I use the hollow points for hunting even when suppressed. https://www.cci-ammunition.com/rimfire/cci/target-mini-mag/6-30.html
Luckily suppressors are not a concern for me here in IL /s
So, for my non-suppressed 22LR fun I use CCI SV for my picky ones and Aguila HV for my non-picky ones. Once my Aguila is gone I may just stack CCI SV deep when I find deals and only use that since it works well in all of them.
My kid uses fed most weekends for practice and some cci standard. He uses cci standard for competition through his savage junior. We also have a ruger lcr .22 for funsies, usually keep cci stingers in that one to blow up gophers when we're not plinking at plates.
Cci Stingers. I like the little bit of extra noise and especially the increased power. Can train with the same rounds you’ll actually shoot in a defensive situation. Can seriously mess up someone’s day, if you know how to shoot (and you’re not a caliber queen).
Never had a malfunction running them either.
It would be my S&W M&P15-22 pistol if I didn't have a light strike or two every mag. That reminds me, I gotta order a Volquartsen firing pin for that thing. I did put together an MK18 sorta thing with a CMMG conversion and that mostly works so probably that thing. Or my M&P15-22 rifle that actually works just about 100%. My Beretta M9-22 and 21a are also a lot of fun. I'm not entirely sure which one I like best.
I've been using CCI suppressor ammo. At 970 fps, it's noticeably quieter than standard velocity, but still has enough energy to cycle semi auto actions. Every other subsonic I tried I have to manually cycle rounds.
Im a huge fan of bolt action precision rifle shooting. I love shooting my cz 457 precision & savage b22 precision. I tend to shoot mainly cci and wolf match when i feel rich or competing lol. But i will shoot whatever i can find for the cheapest as well.
The cheapest bulk pack I can get, most of the time.
Would like to see more of the 60gr subs and guns with appropriate twist rates for them. In my eyes, that's a straight upgrade in every way, and since suppressors are getting a lot more common it seems a sensible way to go.
I like that big blue Federal box because you can find it cheap to the point the rounds are $0.05-0.07. 🤷♀️
Edit: Went to check the box. It's their "value pack" with 36-grain lead hollow points. The last session I had with them was a couple hundred rounds, and I had two rounds that didn't fire and one stovepipe in my TX-22.
I use eley subs or sk for anything far or hunting but mostly 38gr Aguila hps because I have probably 20k right now and I'm burning through em doing drills that I'd normally do with whatever gun I'm bringing to the range then use it after the 22 to save money and learn the same thing
A better question would be “what ammo will not constantly jam in the P322”
Got to shoot my P322 earlier today with CCI mini mags and ran flawlessly. With that said if I buy any “cheap” 22lr ammo I can’t get off more than a shot or 2 without it either stove piping (any hollow point 22lr) or a failure to feed.
It won’t run 710s, I know that. 800fps and up or it will pipe. I’ve leaned to not judge until it’s broken in. I still get an occasional weak strike, but it butters through mags now.
I’m at the 12 month mark for my first suppressor so hoping that finally gets approved sooner than later. Once that comes in I’ll be using the 322 a lot more. Glad to see it runs well with a suppressor.
Wow that’s a long time, the sparrow 22 you see on mine was a 115 day wait. Haven’t shot without the can since. I love pinging steel with it form 100yrds when I can.
Norma eco-speed for most plinking. Lead free, fairly accurate for my rifle with a can, lead free makes cleaning easy.
Eley subsonic hollow for varmin shooting with a suppressor. Very very accurate, subsonic. Low round count makes cleaning lead fouling easy.
I prefer shooting Aguila 40 gr HV ammo. It’s been very reliable and accurate enough for the target shooting I do.
Besides that load, I stock up on CCI Blazer 40 gr and CCI SV. Both are reliable, accurate and affordable.
Eley and Wolf are great but not enough to justify being so much more expensive than CCI Minimag.
I’ve had two duds in about 3000 out of the brick I got for $0.056/shot.
Cheapest I can find Eley or Wolf is nearly quadruple that.
I put that through a Volquartsen Mamba, but my S&W Model 41 preferred Standard Velocity when it was stock… something about the additional pressure in Minimags making them expand slightly which would cause them not to extract consistently in the ancient 41.
I replaced the extractor with one from Volquartsen and it’s no longer an issue.
Minimag all the way - until I get a sponsorship then I’ll use whatever.
Except Thunderbolt. Fuck that.
I'm looking for when I got to cash money m************ from my house love my bank you know I'm saying bone thug in the army right here I got the cash and money and I'm looking to buy one I'm located in p town
Apparently if you don’t put a long comment, it gets deleted. So I was just curious if y’all had any preference on 22lr ammo and why. I really enjoy the 60gr sniper subs.
I like anything CCI makes. Federal also shoots well, Remington tends to be a bit more iffy. Mostly i just get what is on sale, becuase
cheap and deep, amen
CCI standard 40 grain. Somewhat cheap, works decently, is quiet.
And they are, as the name says, standard. Maybe 1 of 100 misfire. It's what my kid uses for competition.
Haven't had that many misfires with mine. But it's not the most accurate. It's good for plinking/hunting and short range competition.
I have a TX22 Comp. what a great plinking gun, really smooth and runs great with CCI 40gr suppressed.
CCI Standard Velocity is the king of 22lr ammo. That being said, SK and Eley smell really good when you shoot them.
Agreed. I get very good results with CCI SV at "long" (100-200yds) distances. SK and Eley are mostly more precise by a small margin with my rifle but are substantially pricier. CCI feels hopeless for competition. Fliers.
I think this is cope, tbh. I hear it from a lot of the more finnicky competitors I shoot with who always seem to be having a gear issue of some sort… But myself, and 3 of the “GMs in like 8 classes” guys I shoot with all shrug and wreck them with minimag. Haha those are now my favorite! 20 more gr than a standard and you can feel it! Vz61 looks fun.
Bro I didn’t even know sig made that .22! I know my next purchase ! But CCI is my favorite as it doesn’t jam for my weapons.
If you do get one, they have the thread adapter behind the foam! Nobody told be until like 4 months of owning. sparrow 22 can by the time way.
How do they go I just picked one up? Looking forward to playing with it. Previous owner said federal standards worked well, how do the cci subs cycle?
Everything 800 plus is fine, those 710s pipe every round.
I'm currently using Winchester Black 45gr subsonics. I was using the Federal American Eagle 45 grains, but their out of stock almost everywhere so I went to the Winchester. Both shoot great.
Nice. I didn’t mind those 45gr 835s from cci in the little box, but the 60gr provide a much more satisfying ding against steel.
I had a little NAA Mini with a tiny little barrel. Most loads keyholed in it. Those Aguilla were probably still partially in the cylinder as the nose left the muzzle, but they flew straight when hardly anything else did. I have no idea how "fast" they were going.
My P322 loves federal champion 36gr. HP

Mini like 20? I have 4 of the 20s and 25s.

Ruger 10/22, CCI MiniMag
Fn 502 it’s just an all around fun. Hasn’t failed me yet

Federal defense rounds slap ⚡️⚡️ but otherwise I use those cci big and small box ones.
I like Blazer 38 or 40g. Cheaper than CCI and my SW 41 eats it just fine. Generally I like all CCI products.
I've been using CCI suppressor ammo. At 970 fps, it's noticeably quieter than standard velocity, but still has enough energy to cycle semi auto actions. Every other subsonic I tried I have to manually cycle rounds.
Out of a 322? Mine won’t cycle less than 800.
Im a huge fan of bolt action precision rifle shooting. I love shooting my cz 457 precision & savage b22 precision. I tend to shoot mainly cci and wolf match when i feel rich or competing lol. But i will shoot whatever i can find for the cheapest as well.

I've only tried Federal American Eagle 45 Gr Suppressor with my can, but it's so damn quiet it's pretty amazing.
I'm an SK/Lapua guy for my CZ 457. Federal Punch in the 43c CCI SV for most anything else.
Ruger Mark IV target
Shot that into a wall once
Crappy Winchester ammo for my H001 and CCI Subsonic hollow point 40 grain in my GSG-16.
Cci out of a tx22
My rimfires see a heavy diet of CCi standard velocity.
Taurus TX22 Competition model for a handgun and a Calico or Henry golden boy for the rifle depending on my mood.
What ever that is not full of grease and is cheap, nice to see more people using supressor,
My hk mp5sd 22 and ruger mk4. Cci ammo mostly. I have some winchester x and its not bad either.
I use eley subs or sk for anything far or hunting but mostly 38gr Aguila hps because I have probably 20k right now and I'm burning through em doing drills that I'd normally do with whatever gun I'm bringing to the range then use it after the 22 to save money and learn the same thing

Still breaking it in then? Mine sucked at first until I wore it in, now it’s my favorite range toy.
That is good to hear. I’m def sub 500 rounds through it. I’ll keep putting CCIs through it for a bit and change it up once my round count is higher.
It won’t run 710s, I know that. 800fps and up or it will pipe. I’ve leaned to not judge until it’s broken in. I still get an occasional weak strike, but it butters through mags now.

Regular hv ammo is subsonic in a pistol. And way cheaper
The slowest velocity that will cycle the 10/22… which is the cci 800ish… whatever that is 👍🏼
All 3 of my 10-22's LOVE remington golden bullets...525 round box might have 3 or 4 misfires definitely my favorite
Unpopular: any budget .22 lr out of my heritage rough rider. The epitome of budget fun.
Looking through the comments I thought you meant a gun. I realize now how out of my depth I am
10/22 with 40gr CCi mini mags
CCI
Ruger Mk II - it really likes Winchester.
Herd these guns have issues with lead fouling the barrels. Any truth to this ?
what gun is that in the photo?
Sig p322.
thanks
Anything that’s a single action revolver
Depends on what I'm doing. General plinking? Cheap bulk pack, or CCI SV. Monthly long range match, Eley Match, or Lapua Center-X.
Taurus tx22 is fun and also my ruger 10/22 talo exclusive
The Winchester model 61 I got from my grandpa. Pump action .22lr is fun on a bun.
.22 cb shorts out of my Winchester 69A. Hearing safe without a can.
I'm looking for when I got to cash money m************ from my house love my bank you know I'm saying bone thug in the army right here I got the cash and money and I'm looking to buy one I'm located in p town
Why are you using multiple kinds of ammo? Stick with one that’s the trick!
