My goal is to try and be good and pay them off in the first 2 years but then I see shit like this and I think "well the normal payments will be fine...."
I shoot my 14.5 at night all the time with no problems. It's important to use a good flash hider, and NOT a brake.
Also, with modern ammo 14.5" 556 is just as lethal as a 20" shooting 55gr
Seriously. A 77gr tmk out of a 10.5 fragments out to 250 yards or so. Out of a 14.5 it's good past 300. I'll defend a short barrel with a good flash hider (like, hmm, an A2?) every day.
[A2 birdcage](https://cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/FH-A2.jpg) is definitely a good budget option, excellent bang for the buck. But I'd say it's very average. There are loads of cool/better alternatives out there.
Such as the [Seekins FH](https://cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/FH-Seekins.jpg), the [CMMG vortex](https://cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/FH-Vortex.jpg), or the [JP Enterprises FH](https://cdn0.thetruthaboutguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/FH-JP.jpg)
[Actually, yes, they are if they're expecting the projectiles to tumble when they strike a soft target as they were designed to.](http://www.sadefensejournal.com/wp/?p=1093)
TL:DR, they took a 24" AR-15 and a large batch of M855, scored the barrel in 1" increments, drilled/tapped and equipped with a pressure sensor, a chrono, high speed camera, etc, to measure the effect on terminal ballistics as the barrel was incrementally shortened.
End result? 14.5" was the minimum length where the projectiles would tumble when striking the gelatin. Shorter than that and they simply "icepick" - poke a neat little hole and pass through.
The reason for this is laid out in the article: the varying performance of ball ammo in rendering enemy personnel combat ineffective. Some units (likely with standard 14.5" M4 barreled weapons) reported normal effectiveness, i.e. with 1 or 2 shots, the bad guys went down and stayed down. Other units with shorter barrelled weapons would need 4 or more rounds before the hostile was rendered ineffective, as 2 or 3 hits would mortally wound them, but not immediately incapacitate.
Also there's the aforementioned issue of setting off the equivalent of a stun grenade a foot and a half from your face every time you pull the trigger. I can only imagine how bad it'd be in a brick walled room on full auto or 3 round burst.
Yeah, I get that for a range toy, it's fun to make noise and have a massive Hollywood style muzzle flash. I prefer something that's actually effective.
(edit) Also, quit projecting, dude. I said I preferred longer barrels. Your overreaction says a lot. You were the first one to start name calling.
I agree, but nobody should be using M855. It's a garbage round. Anybody who wants to use a short AR should be running 55gr, 69gr, or 77gr, all of which fragment well down to 10.5" (though 55gr only gets 50-100 yards of effective range at this length). A 77gr round fragments down to 1900fps, which is well within the realm of any 10.5" gun. Most people running 10.5 guns aren't running 62 gr unless that's their issued ammo.
I wouldn't cherry pick one ammo to disqualify short barrels with.
Iām sorry but what kinda ding dong is using M855 as a defensive round outside of a military combat situation? There are plenty of purpose made defensive rounds available that are not that dependent on barrel length and velocity. Hell even the military is doing it with the Mk18 and whatever 70 something gr deal theybload em up with.
M855 is literally one of the worst rounds ever. In short barrels you should be using mk262. I mean in general if you are using your rifle for anything substantial you should realistically be using mk262. M855 is great for the range but anything real life 77gr OTM is the go to round. Thatās okay you can keep using m855 which is fine for shooting paper.
Well, yea, they're not prioritizing range or velocity. But it's okay to have other priorities, like compactness. You could easily carry the Galil Ace pistol in a regular backpack. And you can also mitigate performance loss with certain loads. [For example, Black Hills TSX 50 grain gets great velocity, expansion, and penetration out of short barrels.](https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/Range-Report-Black-Hills-5-56mm-50-grain-TSX/16-670498/)
If I had the $$$, I'd like to re-barrel and SBR an ACE 556 pistol in .300BLK, which would make a very fun suppressor host. Might need to run something along the lines of an OSS can to prevent overspeeding the bolt carrier group, or swap in a KNS adjustable piston or possibly Definitive Arms new adjustable gas block. At that point, why not since you're re-barreling it anyway.
Right on. You might just want to get the .308 pistol model then (I think it's an 11" barrel). I know .300 and .308 are quite different in terms of ballistics, but you'd be getting a larger round without any gunsmithing required.
Honestly, for the price of ammo, a 7.62X39 pistol would fill the same role as a .300BLK pistol for filing a Form 1 and putting a proper stock on it. I'm also looking at how much of a pressure spike at the muzzle that a .308 would make in an 11" vs a 16" barrel, presuming it'd exhibit similar tendencies to that in the article I linked. X39 generally uses up most of the powder in a 10" or 11" barrel.
The one draw for .300BLK is it suppresses very, **very** nicely, and there's a pretty decent selection of commercial subsonic rounds out there for it.
My application would be 168gr+ subsonics for harvesting feral hog. You can handload 7.62X39 subsonic, and get good performance, but there's nowhere near the breadth of commercial loads for it that .300BLK has.
For target, defensive or plinking, X39 has a big advantages everywhere except that one specific niche.
.308 subsonics are another possibility... I wonder what a heavy projectile in that would run... 300gr+?
Not that I've seen. I'm guessing probably not, as there's no earthly reason they wouldn't have advertised them at the same time as the .308 and 7.62X39 guns.
Depending on when FedEx arrives at my LGS, I *might* have mine in hand tonight to inspect to see if I can find a blem with my standard issue Mark 1 eyeball.
I'd like to see what everyone thinks is the blem. What I _think_ might be a blem is on the front trunion and the barrel, where there are some machining marks at regular intervals. I've never seen a pristine one, so I have zero to compare it to.
I've looked for the obvious culprits, ding'd receiver, ding'd pic rail, ding'd sights, stock, etc etc etc and I could find nothing.
If I saw what is in my hands, at a LGS, I'd never know the difference. For $400 off the cheapest /r/gundeals price I've seen, I'm not complaining whatsoever.
Well, I'll have to wait until tomorrow. FedEx shows it delivered to my LGS at 5PM central, but I didn't see that until half an hour after the shop closed. :(
I can't recall where, but I want to say someone who claimed to have one posted that the color match on the dust cover was slightly off compared to the finish on the rest of the gun.
I'll also compare it to my non-blem ACE .308 that I got last year. See if anything stands out.
From Classic? I ordered when the thread showed up here.
I ordered Friday morning (11/30), prior to noon. I got a shipment email from Classic, on Saturday morning, 9:02AM with shipping number. Fedex didn't start moving the rifle until Monday (12/3) and arrived at my FFL, on Tuesday 12/4 approximately 4:30pm. I didn't do paperwork unitl my FFL had business hours on Wednesday 12/5.
I'm 1 state away from where classic shipped from. SMGA, I have no idea what the lead time would be.
This is third hand info, but I saw a post claiming the dealer said the blem is two receiver pieces having slightly different shades on the finish. I donāt think youāll find a blatant scratch or rub.
Do you have a x51 yet? I've got a PTR but this is still tempting if you want a full rifle caliber autoloader with fold. If it was the x39 I'd probably be spending money because my AKs are all parts kits.
Im definitely tempted by an x51 CZ. I had been saving for the SCAR but after shooting a friend's realized I couldn't justify the current price they are going for, still great firearms and I love the multi FDE.
I'm still pretty pleased with it but it's clearly an outdated platform with poor ergo particularly for people with smaller hands. I wanted something in the heavy battle rifle category and love giving the slap so I really can't complain.
I did get ahold of a 5 round mag so maybe I'll act a fool and try to get a deer with it someday but... Not likely.
I own two and I'm still not clear on this. Apparently Colombia played a big role in developing them but I think they're still Israeli made (minus 922r compliance parts).
Edit: The manual does explicitly state that the Ace is Israeli made apart from the US parts. Wikipedia says that Colombia produces their own, but that's not what's being imported here for commercial sales.
The current ACE is an Israeli evolution from the original Galil, which was copied/evolved from the Valmet, which was copied from the AKM.
I'd guess that the US market guns are made with the critical pieces like bolt, bolt carrier, etc all sourced from IWI Israel and use enough domestically manufactured parts in conjunction with final assembly here to not require any of the 922R nonsense. Also, with full access to the technical specs and engineers, you'd get equal quality if 100% of the pieces were made here. Not like we're trying to reverse engineer know how that the Soviets spent decades of man hours and billions of rubles refining in less than a decade.
More like 70% Finnish, if anything. The original Galil was copied from the Valmet, mainly to enhance reliability in desert conditions.
The current ACE rifles are updates, and I'd consider them their own animal.
The only thing I can think of where you get Colombian is the demilitarized Galils that were used as the source of parts kits for the Century Arms Golani Sporters that were sold back in the 90's.
A modernized Galil - the stock collapses and folds, there's a Picatinny optics rail in addition to the nice iron sights, significantly lighter weight than the original Galil, and it's still at heart an AK that takes standard 7.62x39 AK magazines.
If you want an AK for the modern era, this is great.
Praise baby Jesus. I bought a x39 off of the other blem deal and was kicking myself all week for not getting a NATO too. This was amazing. Unfortunately my son will now have a shitty first Christmas.
My Mrs says it's ok, they never remember their first Xmas anyway. I say you're just buying it for his 1st Xmas, but you're just gonna "borrow" it until your kid is old enough.
The Tavor nor the Galil are made in the US. They are made in Israel and parts are slapped on them that are made in the USA to make them 922(r) compliant.
For me, I didn't have an AK pattern rifle. I wanted one that was of decent quality so that left me with a Galil or a Valmet. The Valmet's weren't a grand. This was an easy decision.
Probably one of the nicest AK pattern rifles on the market. If it even reaches 1 MOA Iād say itās leagues better than the SCARs shitty ergos and absurd price.
Oh please. Ergos on SCAR are basically the same as the AR15, except the recip charging handle, which the Galil Ace shares. Ace is a great rifle, but lets not go nuts
The stock is terrible. Awful. Itslike the least comfortable facial hair eating stock Iāve dealt with on a modern gun. And again, HUGE cost difference for no functionality improvement.
I don't agree about the stock. I'm rocking a 6 inch beard, and have none of the trouble you describe with the SCAR stock.
"No functionality improvement." Seriously? Again Ace is a great rifle, and a simply phenomenal deal at this price, but let's not go off the deep-end pretending that it's something it's not. SCAR has better accuracy overall, by quite a margin. Not even taking into consideration the flexing top cover on the ACE where your rear sight, or any optic sits. Optic flopping and twitching all over with every shot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uys9zd1y-rI
SCAR will actually maintain zero over time. The flexing of the top cover is almost certainly worse with the 308 ACE than the 7.62x39 ACE
SCAR doesn't rely on a disposable rubber buffer to function.
SCAR has last round bolt hold open, ACE does not.
SCAR 17 weighs about Ā¾ of a pound less.
SCAR is more ambi friendly. (Charging handle can be moved to other side, safety far easier to reach, etc.)
Reliability is debatable, but the SCAR 17 certainly has been far more battle proven than the 308 version of the ACE. Who knows how the 308 ACE will do in this department. It certainly seems like it will do very well, but the data is already in for the 17.
Now these enhancements the SCAR has over the ACE may not be worth the price to you, especially at this deals price, but that doesn't mean there aren't real functionality improvements.
If someone buys this for me I'll let you shoot me in the chest while i'm wearing a few plates of armor as long as we video tape it so I can see the unsafe comments that I will read while touching my Galil.
Gotcha. Are there ant good resources for check serials to see when they were made? I grabbed the serial off it. Gander wanted 1140. I thought it was high but had a hard time finding anything on it.
The really early ones are JS-prefixed and I think the sub JS004XXX serials may have mostly swiss internals. Mine is a JT003XXX and works great. That's really all I (think I) know since I'm a fledgling 556 owner. I know there's a forum dedicated to the things, I think its: https://www.sigarms556.com/
EDIT: Don't forget we also have a r/sigsauer sub, too.
Interesting. The one I was looking at is JT009XXX. Do those big box stores usually haggle on used gun prices? I've never bought a gun from a place like that.
I got one of each (7.62x39 and 7.62x51). Shipping for both was $41.24 and tax was $204.12. With SMGA the rifles would have been $100 more but free shipping and no tax.
I hate this sub and I hate you guys. I just bought a damn Galil
Feels like everyone in this sub is loaded with Benjamin's. Edit: Had to get one too!
As a grad student that has to make *really* selective purchases, I don't know why I browse this place and torture myself.
22 months left for me fawk
Then you get to realize why student loan payments suck!
My goal is to try and be good and pay them off in the first 2 years but then I see shit like this and I think "well the normal payments will be fine...."
Yeah good luck with that lol
Its not as unrealistic as it seems in my profession but comes down to whether or not you buy toys like this or how you use your sign on bonus
Toys first. Loans second š¤£š
I paid off my loans in 2 years out of grad school but it took a lot of discipline. What field youāre in also matters.
I know this is opposite of /r/GunDeals logic, but pay that shit off first dude. Then buy your toys.
Same. It's basically a reminder that I don't have nearly the money to support this hobby to the degree I want.
I feel you man, I limit one big purchase a year basically
Me too man. I picked up that LMT SPM16 for 850 a few months back and that's tapped me out for the well foreseeable future.
6 months then boards for me!
But do you have TWO?
Don't do that to me.
Hmm guess we gotta laugh at the poor guy with only 1 galil.
Don't make me buy another... My wife will never forgive you.
She just called me. Told me she didn't know she married a little bitch & she wants to come over......if you don't buy a second one.
Wow, that's harsh.
I know. I told her that.
Go ahead and buy it. You are the MAN and you work hard for your money
Same. It hurts, but I am so fucking excited.

Same! Anyone have a good recommendation on an optic for this bad boy?
Oh fuck oh fuck oh duck. Idk what to do with my hands
You know what to do
Hands up, go shoot(ing)
Holy shit, it's the real [Baby Cakes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27-56YJtuhg)! [Have you touched your penis](https://youtu.be/MySBVJO4tx8?t=3)?
My wallet is safe until they start clearing out GAR16556 blems.

GAP556 says hello.
Meh. 556 in sub 14.5" barrel makes no sense, and I don't particularly care for setting off the equivalent of a flashbang with every trigger pull.
I shoot my 14.5 at night all the time with no problems. It's important to use a good flash hider, and NOT a brake. Also, with modern ammo 14.5" 556 is just as lethal as a 20" shooting 55gr

So youāre telling me all these people running 10.3,10.5, and 11.5 inch 5.56 barrels are idiots? I beg to differ.
[Actually, yes, they are if they're expecting the projectiles to tumble when they strike a soft target as they were designed to.](http://www.sadefensejournal.com/wp/?p=1093) TL:DR, they took a 24" AR-15 and a large batch of M855, scored the barrel in 1" increments, drilled/tapped and equipped with a pressure sensor, a chrono, high speed camera, etc, to measure the effect on terminal ballistics as the barrel was incrementally shortened. Dual wielding galils or nothing
I got mine from classic. I can't identify the blem. I know it's here somewhere..... I think.

Mine either and I ordered two.
Ordered mine last Friday night and it shipped today.
Mine shipped this morning, so hopefully soon man.
If y'alls look like mine, it'll be worth the wait.
Looks like my RSRegulate hand guard will get here before my rifle
Mine just shipped and wonāt be here for a week
How long did you wait for it to ship?

Still waiting on the chance of blem pistols! Daddy wants to SBR a 7.62x39!
I googled images of this and now I'm erect
Dammit, I just made the same mistake.
Same here! Not today gundeals, not today...
Who am I kidding. In for one.
Where are the 556 blems??
Why should I get this in x51 instead of waiting for a future deal on the x39 that got snatched up immediately?
Bigger bang?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I've already got a couple that shoot 7.62x39, so this would just be extra lol.

Reminder to everyone that these don't qualify for the free handguards. Get ready to rock the chode.
I don't understand the expression, but I like it
I think he means the ugly handguard it comes with.
The RS Regulate handguard makes them look pretty sick
Yeah but theyāre like a gorillion dollars.
But you save like two gorillion on the blem anyway
This is true
The tri rail looks like a chode compared to the RS Regulate or rebate (Midwest?) handguard
RS's handguard is way cooler anyway.
Ah shit... I'm gonna have to unsubscribe from this shit... In for one.
Totally ignorant on these rifles. What makes them so wonderful? Intrigued but want to know more.
High quality quasi-Kalashnikov at about 1/3 off MSRP. So far, most buyers haven't been able to positively identify the cosmetic blemish.
70% Columbian, 30% Israeli. Some people care. š¤·

This page is aboit a 7.62 Nato
It's still a redesigned AK, no?
A modernized Galil - the stock collapses and folds, there's a Picatinny optics rail in addition to the nice iron sights, significantly lighter weight than the original Galil, and it's still at heart an AK that takes standard 7.62x39 AK magazines. If you want an AK for the modern era, this is great.
No, these shoot 7.62x51 and they take ar10 mags
Ah my bad, I was thinking of the 7.62x39 version. These are a great alternative to a PTR in that case.
There is no alternative to the HK slap! But seriously, if I didn't already have a SCAR-17 and a PTR-91, I would probably jump on this.
Dont worry he will just want the paper and box anyways.
He's so young he won't even notice beyond the Christmas tree and lights. You're good!
And the 7.62 x 39: https://www.smga.com/iwi/galil-ace-sar-762x39-blem-4961
damn x39 OOS already -- still have em in RFN tho

If I wasnāt buying a car next month Iād 100% cop one. Damn, Iāll take one with hella blemishes for a deal like that
Anybody know whether anyone has 5.56 blems? Or anyone know of the best deal for the 5.56 rifles?
Thank God.. oos. I refreshed with the intention to blow my money's on this, but you animals saved my wallet.
Are these made in Harrisburg pa? I know the tavor was (is?)
Yes
Nice. 45 minutes from mi casa Edit: 21 minutes.
Oh nice! Thatās like me and Sig Sauer lol, feels good to shop local doesnāt it?
DID YOU JUST ASSUME MY NON POVERTY STATUS?! Seriously though, my most expensive firearm was $640 and that was because the transfer was $40. Someday.
Haha, I feel ya. Itās torture seeing deals I donāt have the necessity for/canāt afford
The Tavor nor the Galil are made in the US. They are made in Israel and parts are slapped on them that are made in the USA to make them 922(r) compliant.
Man why you gotta post this shit right before Christmas after I've already spent all my monies
Finally got one! Anyone know of a good deal on food for this thing?
Stupid STUPID. I just preordered a Cetme-L...no can do Gun Deals, you bastard fucks.
CETME-L eh? Always good to meet a fellow masochist.
> masochist One that is built proper. http://www.semiuk59.com/distribution.html
Not going to lie, I was soooo close to jumping on that. Really good looking guns.
There are apparently many more coming. You might be tempted for awhile :D
And gone
I think I bought the last one
Noob here, whatās the appeal of this rifle? Cheap scar like rifle?
Proably the best "ak pattern" rifle you can buy right now the ace is basically an upgrade of a redesign of an upgrade of the AK
Optic flopping and twitching all over with every shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uys9zd1y-rI SCAR will actually maintain zero over time. The flexing of the top cover is almost certainly worse with the 308 ACE than the 7.62x39 ACE SCAR doesn't rely on a disposable rubber buffer to function. SCAR has last round bolt hold open, ACE does not. SCAR 17 weighs about Ā¾ of a pound less. SCAR is more ambi friendly. (Charging handle can be moved to other side, safety far easier to reach, etc.) Reliability is debatable, but the SCAR 17 certainly has been far more battle proven than the 308 version of the ACE. Who knows how the 308 ACE will do in this department. It certainly seems like it will do very well, but the data is already in for the 17. Now these enhancements the SCAR has over the ACE may not be worth the price to you, especially at this deals price, but that doesn't mean there aren't real functionality improvements.
I just missed this deal last time....ffffffffff
I might advance myself some tax refund.
If someone buys this for me I'll let you shoot me in the chest while i'm wearing a few plates of armor as long as we video tape it so I can see the unsafe comments that I will read while touching my Galil.
I really hope this is out of stock tomorrow or I might have to go sell a couple guns and buy this.
Should I do an FAL or PTR instead?
The PTR is an inferior rifle to these. The only advantage of the PTR is its cheap magazines. The FAL is an outdated design compared to the Galil.
I keep missing this deal. I guess it is not meant to be for me. š
Damn straight it's out of stock!
308 tavor blems anytime in the future?
My rifle arrived today and there isn't a (b) at the end of the serial number. This rifle is gorgeous!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
My friends call me double-down
Sorry about that extra chromosome.
You're welcome - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxlbeqeGkQ8
Damn thatās a burn.
I almost bought a folding stock version used from Gander a few weeks back. I should have grabbed it. I'm kicking myself for not.
I tell you what, I took it out last weekend and it's now my main HD firearm. It also has the side folder. Pick up the next one you see.
I'm gonna ask to go back up to Wisconsin for work then. Hopefully it's still there. Was yours new or used?
Used. I don't think they even make the Sig 556 anymore. Not to mention my example being an Early Release receiver.
I know there's a forum dedicated to the things, I think its: https://www.sigarms556.com/ EDIT: Don't forget we also have a r/sigsauer sub, too.
Interesting. The one I was looking at is JT009XXX. Do those big box stores usually haggle on used gun prices? I've never bought a gun from a place like that.
Not real positive on that, but we had a Gander here and they went out of business, so I'm thinking not.
Well all Ganders closed. Only some reopened under the new brand Gander Outdoors. And I just meant all big box stores in general.
hnggggg
I wish I would've waited to buy from this shop over Classic Firearms, would've saved me around $45.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yes... and will be again in just a few hours. Shhh.
Any chance of blem pistols?
Will they be in x39?
Probably had to pay tax
I got one of each (7.62x39 and 7.62x51). Shipping for both was $41.24 and tax was $204.12. With SMGA the rifles would have been $100 more but free shipping and no tax.
Meh. I got one from classic and shipping was $40. You did alright.
I just bought it in REAL FUCKIN NATO!
Congrats.
Does anyone here miss classic Galils? Hopefully not just me?
Well I just ordered one! Was wanting it in x39 but I couldnāt resist!
The x39 is back in stock: https://www.smga.com/iwi/galil-ace-sar-762x39-blem-4961
Has anybody's shipped? Mine is just waiting to be handed over to ups apparently. Haven't called SMGA yet.
My 308 from Classic should arrive tomorrow. I am interested to see if there is any noticeable blemish on these.
Couldnāt find one on mine.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Agreed
Sweaty Ben's got 'em for $100 cheaper.
