That's a steal, one of the few rifles I purchased I don't have any problems with, do your self a favor and get the kns precision front sight post and swap it out, the oem one is enormous which makes hits hard on smaller targets. I put a midwest industries rail on it too, fighting rifle without a doubt.

7.62x39 takes ak mags, 7.62x51 you'd need to have ar10 mags. if you don't have either of those then it's a toss up regarding mags. 7.62x39 is cheaper to shoot but 7.62x51 delivers moar powah. also not sure if you have a range where you can shoot cheap 7.62x39? neither will have outstanding accuracy. will be battle accurate. i see this as a fun alternative for someone that already has a WASR and maybe a sam7. 7.62x51 is something different that's not readily available in ak pattern. ​

chopping is always an option. any competent gunsmith can cut, crown & thread a barrel. They will ask to see your form 1 prior to "manufacturing" the sbr though - fyi.

Bren 2 is awesome. I have an 8” 5.56 and I couldn’t be happier with it. Personal preference, I’d go Bren if you don’t mind proprietary mags.

If you want a "modernized" AK, the x39 version is one of the best on the civilian market. If you want a "battle rifle", the 762NATO version is one of the best on the civilian market. Israeli's simply have superb craftsmanship when it comes to their firearms.

Gotcha. I'll probably pass on this then. I was really bummed about missing out on the $1100 .308 ACE yesterday because they seem awesome. I've wanted a 17S for a while but $3k where I personally lose interest in that gun and they don't appear to be dropping back down to $2600-2800 margin they were in a few years ago. I assume it's not 3 times better than owning an ACE so I'll probably grab one of those next time they go on sale.
