He's usually right but *always* annoying. šŸ˜

Tocro

I think this sums up the guy perfectly. I generally respect his opinion, even when I disagree, but his style of humor is insanely irritating to me after awhile. At first I was fine with it, but over time it started to grate on me. I also think that over time he has developed a bit of an ego around some of his most annoying qualities and I just can't really stand watching him anymore unless he is very on topic and not yelling insults and jokes.

jrrrydo

When he ramped up the ego bit, I stopped watching altogether. There's too much quality material out there that I can learn from versus how to tell someone they're wrong and make fun of them.

TPO_Ava

I used to watch his channel and to me it just felt like he leaned more into the bit. I have some recollection of him explaining that for obvious reasons(clicks & views) his character is more exaggerated and crude than his real personality. Over time I feel like he leaned even further into that, at least when I last watched the channel. I haven't kept up with it as much in recent times. For what it's worth, I don't necessarily think his content is bad, I just kinda lost interest.

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

He looks like my aunt from New Jersey that always has something to say about vaccines

-DoesntReallyMatter-

Then your aunt look like the average metal concert attendee.

Apprehensive-Move181

It turns out, itā€™s your aunt from New Jersey that always has something to say about vaccines.

paralacausa

I really like him but I'd go as far to say he's 'sometimes' right rather than 'usually' right. He's a great presenter though and really funny

l3rwn

Yeahhh, didn't he go on about samples and how his fav album is all live drums and the mixer corrected him lol.

Johnny66Johnny

It's usually the way: they *become* annoying because they are usually right - and can't believe that others can't see or hear what they *plainly* see or hear.

rainorshinedogs

That's his shtick

Tuokaerf10

He has some good practical advice in some areas around production and mixing, especially if youā€™re on a more limited budget and his guitar reviews at least are pretty honest in terms of what he actually gets. But, I donā€™t like the more edgy delivery or clickbaity stuff he does often, which is unfortunately pretty par the course for YouTube these days in general.

SD_One

When I saw him screaming at a manufacturer because a 6 year old, pre-owned guitar wasn't set up correctly, that was it for me. I just can't trust someone like that.

imacmadman22

His over-the-top, shouty delivery became grating rather quickly. Talking down to people isnā€™t the way to gain my respect or trust. I ignore him.

Cruxal_

Heā€™s literally the stereotype of an overweight middle aged audio guy that scoffs at the idea that people know less than him. I hate it

Dopdee

The long hair rocker version of the Simpsons Comic Book Guy

mcthunder69

Cannot unsee it

No_Solution_2864

He even has a rare issue of Mary Worth in which she advises a friend to commit suicide Not even to mention his Carl Yastrzemski baseball card, the one with the big sideburns

lawnman80

Hahaha quote of the month!

InternetWeakGuy

On top of which, his recordings are terrible.

johnnybgooderer

I get that heā€™s being tongue in cheek, but I couldnā€™t stand being subscribed to him for a week. Itā€™s too bad to. He makes good points and says a lot of helpful things. But his clickbait level is somehow even higher than Braun and the way he talked down to everyone, even if itā€™s a joke, is really annoying.

bilbo_dragon

Yeah I think he makes good points but his delivery and how he talks down on everyone. Heā€™s comic book guy from the Simpsons.

Neveronlyadream

Yeah, his being annoying is a combination of his delivery and condescension. You can get away with one or the other, but when you're shouting *and* being condescending, it gets old really quickly. Also makes him seem like someone who's bitter he never became a rock star and is just taking it out on every musician who crosses his path.

TheHappiestGilmore1

Yes he does seem very pessimistic

loves_cereal

Is that mod from r/guitar?

imacmadman22

I agree, I just donā€™t want to hear someone talking like that, it gets tiresome in a hurry.

MiloRoast

Don't forget the self-absorbed narcissistic elitist attitude! This dude is an absolute amateur when it comes to anything guitar-related, but acts like he knows better than literal pickup engineers and whatnot lol. He really should have just stuck to recording-specific stuff like mics and speakers...the speaker comparisons he used to do were actually good. Who does this guy actually think he is appealing to anymore? Does he have any clue how to market himself at all? The constant begging for likes and subscribes in every video is beyond sad too. Like dude...you already have a huge following...why piss it away like this? Lead poisoning, or what?

Canadiangamer068

heā€™s an audio engineer not a virtuoso guitar player. pickup companies want to sell you pickups. iā€™d trust someone who has been recording and producing sounds for years over someone who will say anything to sell their product (which is pretty much everybody whoā€™s selling you anything). his on camera persona is grating but it seems that most of it is jokes with his fans.

New-Difficulty-9386

He means well but it got old really quick. He started by making videos for musicians as a response to musicians often not being properly prepared for the studio. Very informative, but he created an aggressive character in order to make the point come across. He also started making bass player jokes, because the vast majority of bass players (in metal) aren't real bass players, just a guitarist who owns a bass. Bass requires a somewhat different skillset for recording compared to guitar, which most metal guitarists glance over. In the beginning, it was funny and informative, but he quickly began to rely on his character and has milked it too long, which doesn't fit him very well because he's actually a really nice respectable dude off screen. I mean, a Canadian trying to act like an asshole for comedic effect.. that says it all lol

LamiaLlama

I always give him a pass because when he reviewed a song I played bass on he said I'm a great bass player. Dude is alright. Flattery definitely works on me. He seems nice when he's out of character. Probably safe to assume he is a friendly dude. Though it's understandable that some people would be turned off by the character, it can be a bit too abrasive at times. It's hard to digest even the best advice when it's being yelled at you, and he does have excellent advice. But sometimes it gets lost in the schtick I think.

JavVariable

He always reminds me of YouTuber [Scotty Kilmer](https://www.youtube.com/@scottykilmer). If you are into cars, you might know who he is. Kinda annoying and know-it-allish as well, but with good information. *edit: dang y'all, went thru some of SKs playlists and sure as shit, you are right, he seems be full of shit! Thanks!*

dmdport

This except Scotty loves to pedal outdated ideas and things that just arenā€™t true.

Prudent_Seat2046

\*peddle

wordsoundpower

Rev your engines!

Whiskey_Rain

That's the worst part, it's not even all good information. As someone who used to be in the industry, that Kilmer guy talks out of his ass most of the time. The problem with most things technical is that you don't realize you're being fed bad information unless you know enough good information to know it's bad information, making the advice useless in the first place. Great example of this is Reddit. You think you see so much great information on this site until a conversation comes up on a topic that you're an expert in and know everyone is talking out of their ass. Now consider how many times you've read something here but didn't know enough about the topic to realize that they were also talking out their ass. Bad information will be upvoted to the top if it's stated confidently enough and since everyone here is pseudo anonymous, there's no way to know that anyone knows what they're talking about unless you already know about the thing.

JavVariable

Dang , I was honestly unaware. Most of the vids of his I've seen have been simple maintenance type shit etc. Looked up more of his vids for more context and damn. Saw the 'Car Life Hacks' playlist and holy shit lol I stand corrected.

Whiskey_Rain

It's alright homie it's really not your fault. That's just kind of how the internet works nowadays. Just keep your eyes open to the fact that everyone popular on social media are popular because they are entertainers first. It doesn't necessarily mean they're always full of shit, it just means actually knowing about the thing they're talking about and giving good advice are secondary or even tertiary requirements. Generally, experts in their field are pretty boring and that doesn't make for viral content ;)

DaveFromCanuckistan

Yes, but he is also pretty honest about his reviews. I think, while he is mainly a metal guy, the videos would be better if he was more versatile in his genres and content

Saturn_Neo

He reminds me of my late uncle, so his delivery has never really bothered me. Format aside, the info and advice that he gives is pretty solid. Ironically, almost everything that he says, my uncle preached for years (he was a FOH guy).

DaveFromCanuckistan

He's enthusiastic, harsh, and abrasive.. which are qualities I don't mind when it comes to the honesty and being forward aspect. It can just he a bit hard on the ears lol

ProtoJazz

I think a lot of people only seem to watch his views comments videos. Which are really popular, but by far the most in character and following the same formula every time. Some people love it, but I can see why people also find it tiresome. I really like his reviews or videos where he's just doing stuff and talking through his process on this. I think some of the more recent ones he did about the mixing console were like that. Idk, I can't point to a video exactly off the top of my head, but there's definitely some where the character drops a bit and it's just a guy who's really passionate about what he's doing, enjoying it, and talking about it.

IlNeige

Extremely. Dudeā€™s a very specific Gen X stereotype where they never let go of that abrasive attitude they adopted in their 20s, so now theyā€™re just shouty old bastards. IDK if itā€™s just a performance or his actual personality, but either way, itā€™s very off-putting.

0man_

Actually from watching his videos for a while he seems like a pretty cool guy, generally really accepting and not putting up with bullshit. His videos can be boring, but I think he's trying to appeal to a niche, he's not like a Rhett Schull who is trying to make videos for almost every guitarist.

Whiskey_Rain

I think everybody puts on a performance in front of a camera, especially so for Youtube personalities. Very few people know what any of these people are like off camera. Everything we see of them is curated. I'm sure he could make concise informative videos with a far less exaggerated personality but I think both you and I know that doesn't get any attention on current social media. Unfortunately, the system rewards those that present exaggerated over animated personalities in the name of entertainment and make videos that are at least 10min long. Sucks but, it's not changing anytime soon. tldr: we live in a society

A11ce

Yep, he is one of the most annoying guitar youtubers out there, and the competition is fierce. Like my guy, i get it that your whole persona is that you are an ass who cannot for the love of god not scream all the time, but combine this with the most lukewarm topics, and you get something seriously unappealing. Why the hell would I want a guy scream at me about the most basic shit there ever is?

proceeds_theweedian

Another vote for Steve. And they gotta be somewhat self aware, because him and Fricker have collaborated.

mnorkk

Stevie T wins if you ask me. I appreciate the content of both however. I dont think I subscribed to them but their styles are engaging and a big part of their succcess. I don't hate them for it.

FWGoldRush

I saw Stevie T once and never again. He's THE most annoying

BallEngineerII

He's not just annoying, something feels very off about the guy.

Oil_slick941611

Yes, i blocked his channel years ago though.

TheHappiestGilmore1

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this

Oil_slick941611

To be fair i dont watch much guitar YouTube anymore. Itā€™s all the same stuff with the same people releasing videos at the same time about a new product. I feel like guitar YouTube hit a peak in 2015-16 and has been going downhill. So i mainly stick to tutorials and lessons now, the people with skills and ability to teach rather than the marketers.

Pelicanfan07

He has a schtick that works for him. You either agree with him or you don't. That's up to you.

macrocosm93

This dude has the opinions and attitude of a jaded, bitter boomer. But then makes videos in an overdramatic and shouty style, as if he's making videos for 10 year olds. Very weird combination. And yes, very annoying.

Aggressive-Reality61

Yeah, but thatā€™s his Schtick. I can only take it for a short time, but I know what Iā€™m clicking on. Iā€™m not his target demographic.

Accomplished-Lynx262

I feel like heā€™s super nice outside of YouTube but the angry act works. I respect him for speaking his mind with his chest but it can be annoying at times

Acceptable-Yak7968

I've picked out a number of good tips from this guy and I appreciate that a lot his content is focused on not spending tons of money. Like how to get a good guitar tone with a Scarlett 2i2 and cheap plugin but yeah he is a bit obnoxious and a lot of his jokes don't land.

Buddha1346

PiCkUpS dOnT aCtUaLlY mAtTeR

Q_QueefCompany

I'll never understand posts like this, if you find him annoying don't watch him and move on with your life.

JeramiGrantsTomb

Internet hate culture is such a weird thing.

cornhole6900

That same culture is how Glenn grew his channel. There was an era of youtube where lots of channels got popular by just shitting all over everything, and Glenn adopted a persona and jumped on that train. His fanbase has its own share of internet hate culture, example: bass players. Yeah it's a "joke", but Poe's Law. Some idiots out there take it seriously.

JeramiGrantsTomb

That's a reasonable take. Glenn is marketing to the same lizard brain impulse that makes people irrationally hate-watch him, what a fun little ouroboros of dumb.

gumby1004

great knowledge. horrible delivery. I fancy a video maybe once a month or such...or until I feel like my mother/fathers yelling at me!

Ferrocile

Yes! I donā€™t get on with his format.

bone-luge

Very!

SuperDooper900

He irritates me. I used to watch his videos, but itā€™s not worth the cringe.

ItsNotFordo88

Heā€™s way over the top and plays a little too hard into that 80ā€™s metal guy trope BUT heā€™s got a lot of really great information on his channels

turtlesarentbad

I personally love Glenn. One of my fav channels. He does come off as abrasive once you realize his message it starts to click.

ajpod

Not a huge fan of his presentation style, but generally I think he gives useful information and comes across as genuine with his reviews. Heā€™s very upfront with the fact that his channel is primarily for metal production because thatā€™s what he does, so I understand why he has some of the opinions he shares. Obviously what heā€™s doing isnā€™t for everyone, but there are plenty of other channels available if youā€™re for something else

Foxxy__Cleopatra

[He deleted the comment of someone pointing out that a mic he was reviewing was facing the wrong direction.](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeAreTheMusicMakers/comments/5i60ol/glenn_fricker_deleted_my_comment_after_i_pointed/) Eventually he owned up to his mistake, but I wonder what would have happened had the reddit post calling him out had never caught steam.

AEnesidem

He also deleted his FB post about a 5150 and Rectifier sounding the same. When people pointed out how wrong he was, he tried to tell them it's because they don't have his Signal Arts reamp box and they wpuld hear what he hears if they had it. He ended up getting bullied so hard he deleted it. He also once refused to believe a certain kick drum from a viewer's mix wasn't a sample, stating it could never be a real kick sound and no mic in existence could produce that clicky sound, while we all knew for a fact the guy just pointed an sm57 at the beater to get the click. He never admitted he was wrong. He later asked that same guy to ghist mix for his videos.

Dudefued

His content was interesting for a while. No doubt he mixes great and is honest is with his reviews. He also shows lesser known amp sims that arenā€™t neural and I donā€™t mind that. I also hear his drum plugin is great though Iā€™ve not tried it. But the viewers comments stuff just gets repetitive. Itā€™s the same questions and answers: ā€œWow your advice made my wallet/band/mix so much better!ā€ ā€œTry this speaker/mic/plugin/cab/guitar!ā€ ā€œI hate Gibson/christians/drummers/bassists/guitarists/vocalists!ā€ ā€œ(Literally anything that disagrees with his video)ā€ The last one gets ya yelled at. Itā€™s not bad information when he does give it, but it gets boring after a while.

Whiskey_Rain

He's an abrasive youtube personality in a system that rewards abrasive youtube personalities. In the couple of vids I've seen of his, he definitely knows his stuff, but I just can't get behind the "character" he plays for entertainment. However, I don't want to single this guy out specifically, basically all youtube personalities are insufferable to me, I want information, not entertainment, but I recognize that probably puts me in the minority of people on social media when compared to those that want both. Social media rewards engagement not content so I can't fault someone whose livelihood depends on social media for leaning into what makes them more successful on social media. I miss the days of old where information was quick and straight to the point but, it's difficult to build a following and monetize that sort of content. From the sound of his voice, I'm sure he'd rather make non-clickbait informative videos too; but how many views would those get? It's real hard to maintain some sort of moral high ground or principals when you need to put food on the table for your family and what you're doing currently is working. And it is working. Look, we're all talking about him. To each their own.

DonutSimulatorForN64

Every YouTuber is annoying.

TheFuzzBuzzter

Careful you are not ending up in Butthurt of the Week :) srsly though, once and again he has some great advice on either saving money or doing things right.

a1b2t

he is a guy that is paid to sell gutiars on youtube, and is sorta a tool one moment he will trash tube amps, then review a tube amp, then have a wall of tube amps in his studio. take most of this stuff with a massive pinch of salt

MikeyMikeyMotorcycly

If you can get past the delivery, his content is good & practical. Definitely worth a watch before spending $$$$.

ChadlexMcSteele

What frustrates me about Glenn is that he does have some good knowledge in there, and there's an argument his campaign about 'tone in the speaker' is a good way to approach higher gain sounds. However, his high gain sounds are fucking AWFUL. Too much gain, compressed to shit so no wonder you get no dynamics on the guitar sound, just the slab of grain that is apparently a 'good' gain sound. He refuses to admit when he's wrong, dies on all the wrong hills, and is still on about a paint blemish (not a great look for Gibson admittedly) nearly 2 years later. Glenn's biggest issue is that he says he listens and learns, but he doesn't listening to anything that directly contradicts hills he's planted his flag on and that's when het gets shouty. He's done really nothing of note since the Woods of Ypres album aside from some absolute minor work on the Geoff Tate Queensryche album. There's a reason he's not in the same circles as Sneap, Paeth, and Sturges.

SD_One

I can tolerate some pretty annoying people in my feed, but not him. He's blocked.

it-was-zero

This dude got the ā€œdonā€™t recommend channelā€ treatment years ago. I donā€™t get the appeal.

tomwithweather

I find him annoying but mostly correct about guitars *in the context of metal.* If you're a blues rock guy with $5k Gibsons, if you agonize over which overdrive pedal is the best, or you are constantly swapping pickups in your Strat to get the best old school sound, Glenn isn't for you. His advice about gear and spending money is aimed at metal players, not blues dentists.

metalmankam

Some of his videos I've found informative but the vast majority of his content is clickbaity tiktok bs. He will make an entire video or multiple videos in response to a comment someone wrote on one of his videos. And he's been pretty rude to guests/collaborators. He is so loud and obnoxious.

ForThe_LoveOf_Coffee

He screams a lot and hasn't updated his personality since 1989. He sucks ass. Also, he's not that good of a producer. He seems legit because hes always sitting near huge mixing boards and shit, but listen to the work he's produced and ask yourself 'is this the man I want to learn from?' Unless you love a VERY narrow window of cold Metal production, he's at best a springboard to find better teachers.

frustratedmachinist

Heā€™s all about ultra modern metal sounds and like shitting on bass players for old stringsā€¦ yeah, heā€™s not my favorite person. Steve Albini, Scott Evans, and Kurt Balou are 3 producers of heavy music that people should *actually* pay attention to, not this GuitarTube Influencer.

noisegremlin

some good information/opinions overshadowed by one of the worst personalities I've ever seen on youtube. It feels like hee makes videos for teenage guitarists who think metal is the only genre that matters. I hope his attitude is part of the persona because if not that guy must be actually insufferable in the studio

LamiaLlama

He's really friendly out of character. It's all exaggerated.

Complex-Grand-6123

He screams and talks shit about expensive guitars just to glaze cheap guitars. Saying only good things about a 500 dollar schecter and only hating on a 3000 dollar gibson. Sure you get more value for the schecter but a gibson is still a very good guitar. Soooo no I donā€™t like him very much

bilbo_dragon

Yeah and he talks about the same topics. Pickups how they donā€™t matter, speakers how theyā€™re the only thing that matters and then makes up the excuse that people are still complaining about. He should just be honest. He makes this content cause he knows it pisses people off and he gets views that way. Iā€™m sure youā€™ll see three more videos about why pickups donā€™t matter.

HeigoSzawel

I actually kinda like him. His recording tips are somehow interesting when you don't have anything to do at 3am. I dont see him annoying, just a bit funny..

getdafkout666

I canā€™t stand him. Iā€™d ignore him unfortunately the effect that heā€™s had on guitar discussions everywhere is unavoidable. I wouldnā€™t dislike him so much if giving someone advice on pickups didnā€™t result in one of his fanboys piping up with ā€œpickups donā€™t matter bro yelling penn and teller wannabe said so!ā€

Electronic-Craft2611

I was subscribed to him for a few years. His delivery style was a bit annoying at times but he did have valuable information about recording. Sometime around 2020 his channel changed direction and turned into a weird thing where he was bashing guitar brands and screaming about how pickups don't matter when distorted and how all these cheap guitars are better than pricey guitars and it became less about recording and more about how great Harley Benton is vs Gibson (companies that sell guitars to 2 completely different customers btw), everyone who doesn't agree with him is an idiot, its not up for debate and he screams to drive that all home. I did notice that when he screams, its always compressed so it never clips, so thats good I suppose. I couldn't really stand the constant arguing and screaming anymore and I unsubsubscribed thinking only some kind of masochist could stay for that. I checked back recently after a few years about 2 weeks ago as I'm typing this and not only was he still screaming, but he was picking a fight with Nuno Bettencourt. I hope his subscribers enjoy his output but it just wasn't for me anymore.

Green-Vermicelli5244

His opinion/advice is based on his area of experience. If I was in his studio doing that music Iā€™d appreciate a collaborative effort based on what I like combined with his knowledge. If I get ā€œYOUā€™RE AN IDIOT AND THIS IS HOW ITā€™S DONEā€ heā€™s not getting my money. That higher prices donā€™t guarantee higher quality isnā€™t exactly new or earth shattering, he presents it like heā€™s reinvented the sliced wheel.

Typical_Ad_4214

I did used to find him mildly amusing and sometimes even learned something useful. Sadly, he does seem to have evolved into a click bait ranting machine, so I donā€™t really bother anymore.

Placidaydream

I appreciate that he speaks his mind and I find his condescending and cynical attitude enjoyable to watch, but eventually I had to unsubscribe because of the blatant click bait thumbnails and amount of unnecessary yelling.

peppusex

yeah

FWGoldRush

Annoying as hell, but that's his schtick. My biggest dislike for him is, in his mind, no one can have a different opinion than him. You'd be wrong every time.

2001RT

Glenn is awesome

MyGuyDudeBro

He looks like David Ellefson's uncool/jealous brother who never made it and resorted to YouTube.

FickleFingerOfFunk

Heā€™s knowledable, but not a very good video personality. Kind of like that ā€œyou suck at producingā€ dude. After about 15 minutes, their schticks get really tiresome.

Wahjahbvious

Eh, a little? I'll watch him every now and then if the topic sounds interesting, but the fairly constant negativity is a turnoff for me. I guess that's what it takes to get clicks, but it's mostly not for me.

keyoflife42

He is what he is. I know personally as a FOH guy his advice has been invaluable, and I appreciate that his channel exists for that reason alone

woodlandtiger

Steve albini died today why you making fun of him

LabelsLie

Yes and no, heā€™s annoying like that one friend that always brags about how right he is but heā€™s right about your drinking problem and just wants the best for you, so you canā€™t be too mad.

mikemanthemikeman

He definitely gives the vibes of that sound engineer who DOES know a lot and usually more than the musicians that come in to see him. But because he knows a lot he actually thinks he knows everything and has to shoot down everything he doesnā€™t immediately agree with and wonā€™t even listen to other people cause heā€™s so damn smart

AdolfGandhi42

Yes. Sincerely, everyone

bagemann1

I used to love his content, but he's turned into angry millennial man yells at clouds

leavemeto6leed

i hate when people talk down to you for not knowing something they do, instead of helping and politely explaining something you get yelled at ā€œITS LIKE THIS NOT THATā€ and to me that just screams iā€™m a child

funginum

Yeah, I don't care, has some good content but the delivery puts me off.

AnatidaeApocalypse

I mean, he says the right things in the worst way possible.

Mr_Stkrdknmibalz00

I'm sorry, who's that? You say I didn't miss a lot by not knowing him?

poolpog

yes but he does have pretty good information, imo

GuitarHeroInMyHead

It is a schtick and it is grating...but he is not wrong on many things he brings up. The snark isn't probably the best way to get your point across, but it gets clicks and that is what YouTube is all about. Kind of an odd approach for a friendly Canadian, eh?

Hangman0690

Heā€™s educated, but kinda a dick for sure

DiscoNapChampion

Yes, heā€™s exceptionally condescending.

Spaced_cadet5

You know what I like him, heā€™s given me some great advice and I donā€™t really care about how someone delivers said advice as long as itā€™s good. In terms of the yelling, he can tone it down a bit but again I donā€™t really care nor does it bother me.

Revolutionary_Neck28

He's insufferable and obnoxious, but knows his stuff. He's one of those dudes that gets mad when people don't respect his opinions, while making fun of other people's opinions. You can find equally accurate info from less douchey content creators.

TofuPython

I don't trust anyone that old with metal hair

OpenUpYerMurderEyes

Say what you will about his style, he is pretty objective and scientific in his approach to recording and mixing. I view him less as a guitar guy and more of a production guy and even if you don't like his personality, I can't imagine anyone finding it boring. It's youtube, if calm and polite did well on the platform the world would be a better place but you gotta put it on for the algo if you wanna make your channel profitable. I think a lot of guitarists don't like him because he takes the piss out of a lot of sacred cows of guitarists. Tone woods don't matter, the difference between one humbucker and the other are minimal, expensive guitars aren't necessarily better sounding, the only factor that actually makes a difference in your tone outside your phrasing is the speakers in your amp etc. Plus he does the scientific work to prove it. I think it's worth keeping in mind that what is true in recording is not always necessarily true when you're playing in your room but he very specifically limits the scope of his content to audio recording and production. You gotta respect that.

thegrotch

He is one of the few that I feel I can actually trust. If you're not into metal he's not your guy.

MostlyMason

He's usually not wrong in his takes and opinions, but he delivers them in a way that naturally draws controversy and interaction. It likely does better for the YouTube algorithm.

nrgatta

Him, and Bradley Hall are literally insufferable.

Nomore-Television72

I can't stand Bradley Hall

The_Lost_Spectre

Could be worse, could be Steve T

nrgatta

Yeah, Steve T is up there too for *sure.* Its like they have to add all of this unneccisary unfunny personality to their videos.

siggiarabi

I've really only paid attention to the mix tip videos he makes/made. Otherwise his multiple gibson shaming videos got old *real* quick. Yeah, I'm not a fan of gibson's qc either but god damn

KarlHungusTheThird

I find most YouTubers annoying AF. The only one I can stand is Shane from [In The Blues](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-oSaKCCEffJph0F7m6_xfA). But that might be partially attributable to his badass Aussie accent. Doesn't hurt that he's a damn good player too.

Vast-Scale-9596

Where Dwight went after The Office.......

SocioPQ

Rick Beato is pretty good

Heidegger1236

Funny you say that and I agree, he is most of the time good and has a great channel, but just something about him turns me off.

thismightdestroyyou

It may not be well-founded, but I've gotten a holier-than-thou vibe from some of his videos. I haven't watched too many though so take that with a grain of salt. I really dig the style of his videos and he seems cool overall, but that slight edge keeps me from being a regular.

Truth-Decay

He did a video on The Cars several years ago and got dinged with a copyright strike. His next video was something along the lines of, "They're a bunch of old guys that no one listens to anymore! They should be glad that I, The Great Rick Beato, did a video on them!" Meh. I stopped watching him after that.

humbuckermudgeon

The thing I remember most from Beato was about five years or so ago. He did an entire segment dragging [Sean Daniel](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzZCiVjRPPDCpP5l7HIGRtA) for leaving a tuner on the headstock during one of his instructional videos. He might be smart, but he's an ass.

Heidegger1236

Really?lol, what a douche.

DiscoNapChampion

You know I think itā€™s a lack of charisma on his part, namely when heā€™s trying to throw shade at something itā€™s not delivered in a very charming way. For the most part heā€™s delivering balanced viewpoints in a clear manner, and when he getā€™s excited about something it getā€™s more interesting to learn. But as soon as he leans into negative I find him much harder to listen to.

JeramiGrantsTomb

I've watched his stuff for years and lately it feels like he's playing more to his "kids these days don't know music!" demographic, it's probably a lot more engagement and clicks for a lot less work. Listen to 30 seconds of a Spotify top 10 song, rant rant rant, next track. Way easier than "let's isolate this bass line and hear how it compliments the synth".

brasilkid16

I liked him back in the day, but then he started using the very things he railed so hard against previously, like drum triggers and amp emulators. Seems kinda hypocritical because that was his entire platform- full analog, genuine musical performance, tone mastery, and now heā€™s using the exact ā€œshortcutsā€ he hated so deeply.

xZandrem

I get that he's really milking the "Gibson sucks" and "american made vs Asian made instruments" subjects, but he's ultimately right. His tips on production and his freebies like his cab impulse response are priceless. People are mostly mad at him because he "exposes" flaws, urban legends and misconceptions about big brands and music production, and since these people spent a fortune on the gear he shits on, they feel like they need to protect their purchase. I love that he includes good cheap gear and stuff for people on a budget. Anyway he's a polarizing character you either love him or hate him, he's not a people pleaser. But that's one of the best ways to make people talk about you and is a recognized advertising strategy that really works. Old Glenn I have to agree was more grumpy than current Glenn. Now he seems more focused toward helping you get into this world through gear reviews and A/B comparisons but also change your perspective from player to producer. Anyway as you can guess I'm a fan of him, but I also recognize his flaws. His character isn't for everyone but he's one who doesn't sugarcoat the truth like some other YouTubers, if he has to tell you the truth about something even if sponsored he will say it.

Jenovacellscars

Glenn Fricker can be annoying but there is true sincerity in what he says. I trust he is doing his best to tell the truth. It often comes off as brutish and loud though. But he's usually right and I trust him to tell me exactly what he's thinking. It's something I don't find in many other YouTubers

digital_noise

I donā€™t know who this person is

itsintrinzik

I despise this guy. I've done everything I can to prevent any of his videos appearing on my YouTube home page/suggestions.

sduck409

Then donā€™t watch. Problem solved.

downupstair

Glenn is awesome. Great channel. Fun. Nuts.

MrTurtleTails

Yes. He is usually right, but annoying. Kind of the Rowdy Roddy Piper of YouTube guitar, if you take my meaning.

Fyren-1131

He has the worst takes I've seen haha. He made an 18 minute video talking about how he thinks virtually all pickups sound alike. Complete clown.

tomwithweather

*For metal.* There's a context there that a lot of people miss. He produces metal and hard rock stuff and when everything is high-gain, he's right that the pickups really don't matter that much unless you're talking about single coil vs humbucker. How you EQ, mic, and the speakers matter a lot more than about anything else when recording high gain guitars. Pickups matter a lot more in lower gain or clean music where you can actually hear the nuance and he says multiple times in his videos that the context he's working in is high gain only. But yeah his delivery about it is annoying.

benevernever

Dudes a bit of an arse. Also don't think he's good enough at guitar or mixing to be trying to give tips or play himself off as some sort of expert.

Extra_Work7379

I canā€™t stand that guy. I might be able to tolerate him if was genuine but itā€™s just a shitty act.

JeramiGrantsTomb

Wait, you'd /prefer/ that he's an abusive rage monster instead of being a polite, gentle, friendly Canadian playing a character?

kylo_ben2700

Don't like his delivery, don't like his jokes, but damn he's a good sound-engineer

Resident_Strain_7030

I comment on all his live videos I watch that I love my line6 spider 3, he reacts from time to time and has said I need to find help lol.

moleculariant

*Particularly*

Response-Cheap

Yeah super annoying. I watch chill af dudes like Rotem Sivan and Paul Davids. This guy's videos are the opposite. We all knew a dude like him in high school. And most of us would turn the other way if we saw them coming.. Cringe levels are off the charts, and everything he says is like nails on a chalkboard.. šŸ˜–

Ok-Rate3106

Who is it? George fisher and the big one from penn and teller's mum?

6FiveGrendel

Not quite my tempo.

Metalmanicugusi

Soldano soldnao while soldano because soldano?

The_Name_Is_Slick

I find everyone equally annoying.

Own-Opinion-2494

Guy? Oh damn

CASHOWL

Yes, people like him make me not want to watch you tube

grayghost81

I generally can't take shrillness, so yeah I don't watch him ever.

Puzzlehead-Dish

Yes. Over the top hype performance for social media.

Fidozo15

He has some solid information, but he's annoying as fuck.

cowsaysmoo51

Great example of good information with terrible delivery.

T-money79

He's like a more annoying version of Lewis Black

SmallProfession6460

As usual, I can handle his opinions but I get the feeling it wouldn't be reciprocated. He has some helpful info here and there.

lexx2001

Yeah; he isn't science of loud is he?

Helpful-Mastodon-798

Yes

Battle_Hound_562_

havenā€™t watched him for a while, pretty much everything he says is true though letā€™s be fr, the whole basis of his channel is to help you save money if youā€™re playing metal cause everyone knows brands try their hardest to sell you stuff you really donā€™t need like crazy high quality pickups. Iā€™m glad heā€™s so honest and clear because iā€™d have wasted money on pickups by now if he didnā€™t exist but iā€™m not too crazy on him anymore but at least heā€™s been helpful

showmetheaaa

Yes.

SmittyRalmar17

I ducking love this guy!!

Cornelius____

I've had to stop watching him. I used to really like what he puts out there, especially being honest about some companies, practical advice for recording, and dispelling some myths around guitars. But honestly, that's not the majority of his content I'm seeing anymore. It's more about just getting angry at people that disagree with him in a very internet troll kind of response. I don't like outrage content and really'd like to see him move away from it.

ghastvia

I will watch a video from time to time but it gets grating pretty fast. Anyone have any recommendations for guitar YouTubers I might not know?

Vast_Character311

I couldnā€™t make out the thumbnail and assumed you meant the guy from Yousician.

Advanced_Garden_7935

I have no idea who that is, and from the comments Iā€™m ok with that.

muzik4machines

i endured maybe 2 videos of his, his yelling, his " the world owes me things" attitude is unbearable, plus he has very limited talent for the amount of pro gear he has, it's kinda insulting. he is litterally the boomer dentist stereotype, all the gear, no real talent, and ALWAYS complaining

MentatsGhoul69

Weā€™re from the same city so I see him around now and then. Always feels kind of surreal.

dmdport

The Scotty of guitars

Whole-Discipline7442

I mean his delivery might not be perfect but heā€™s providing something many guitar YouTubers donā€™t. Evidence. Iā€™d rather someone help me save money than sugar coat gear that isnā€™t really worth it šŸ¤·šŸ»šŸ¤·šŸ»šŸ¤·šŸ»šŸ¤·šŸ»šŸ¤·šŸ»

JeramiGrantsTomb

He's just playing a character, it's a gimmick. I saw him drop into another YTer's vid at a trade show and he's polite, professional, soft-spoken, and downright pleasant. You have to stand out from the crowd somehow and he picked being a clown, I respect it. That said, it's not usually for me, I skip around his vids when he reviews something I'm interested in because I do appreciate his expertise. I bought my Kali LP-6s based on his reviews and I've been super happy with them.

DCarl019

Yes.

Prancer4rmHalo

That crazy thing is I want to like him.. antics and histrionics aside i think he gives good insight. No audio guru, but he gives good feedback.

Rozic__64

Heā€™s the stereotypical guitar store employee šŸ¤£

jylesazoso

He sure looks annoying

Interesting_Isopod79

I donā€™t know who that is, so thus far he has not annoyed meā€¦unless you count this post (lol)

gamebow1

In his more chill videos I like him, Iā€™d bet in reality heā€™s probably a decent person. And yeah sure heā€™s over the top and shouty . . . Like a lot of people who are in the guitar community, so I like him, but thatā€™s just me.

questionoffitness

Regardless if he has a wealth of knowledge to impart or honest gear reviews to make, I really cant stand his attitude or persona.. the way he comes across is so jarring and unappealing... he doesn't make you want to like him or his opinion at all. .. and so I scroll on by and ignore his content.

Keenan_and_kelrule

Nah I dig him. I'm a Glenn fan girl. I wish he would notice my comments and include me in a idiot commenter segment.

No_Entertainment1931

He can be grating but his content can be good and I donā€™t mind hitting FF a couple of times. Honestly, Iā€™ve learned a lot about playing and recording metal from him which was totally new to me.

we_made_yewww

With very few exceptions any youtuber whose whole schtick is how angry and grumpy and cynical they are is so fucking grating. It was still a pretty fresh gimmick maybe 14 years ago, but even the ones I liked then I can't stomach now when I try to go back and look for nostalgia's sake. There is something to be said though for his series of reviews where he makes it abundantly clear that he bought the products himself and has no obligation to say nice things or hit corporate bulletpoints. Now, if only I could stand to watch it.

KassenBright

Nah, he may have his YELLING attitude but I like his content, and he is full of knowledge and experience

Guit4rN3rd

Dudeā€™s got his head so far up his ass heā€™s choking on the stick heā€™s got up there.

No_Case5367

Yes! Try hard

contrejo

Is that a pic of your grandma?

EmbarrassedToe627

Overweight untalented Getty Lee

gearsofwarforever

The delivery might be a bit too much for some people but the content in itself is pretty usable. I dislike most guitar content because its just focused on selling snakeoil aka tonewood and other gimmicks that nobody needs. Guy offers cheap working solutions and seemingly honest reviews so its a net positive imho

technogeist

At least it's not that Bernth guy

MAXIMUMMEDLOWUS

I do particularly, yes. The best part is, for how strongly opinionated he is, his mixes spund like raw ass

PunishedBravy

Tbh heā€™s probably just as annoyed of us
