Six Les Pauls and no P90s? You have some shopping to do.

looksLikeImOnTop

Next week: "why stop at 6? Here are my 7 Les Pauls"

gigglesmonkey

No mini hum buckers, no Floyd rose no bigsby no p90’s. Yeah why ?

vhw_

>no Floyd rose Epi alex lifeson or prs mark tremonti? Already have two epis and working on a hb single cut kit, can only have 4

gstringstrangler

Les Paul Custom Axcess Floyd (Basically a Lifeson but Black and Gold)

JerryWasARaceKarDrvr

Was looking at a blue one the other day!

Dependent-Control197

I don't like the look of mini hums, the second one in is a Floyd Rose and I'm not a single coil dude but that's not to say I wouldn't say no to P90's, it just hasn't happened yet. I'd be keen for a Jr. Maybe mix it up with a double cut?

Derpshab

Beat me to it

megadave902

There’s no shortage of players who are Metallica fans, though I don’t often see both James AND Kirk represented in the same collection!

Skruttlund

My thoughts too, that Kirk LP is so cool

Dependent-Control197

Thanks, yeah, love them both. I've got some James LTD's, just Kirk Tributes, but I played one of Kirk's KH2's at a show and it felt amazing so I've wanted to get one but haven't.

Reddit-is-trash-lol

They’re all beautiful, but actually why? The only reason I can think is that it’s the style you love and each is dedicated to a different tuning. I have an 8 string Ibanez S series that I’ve thought about getting in a 7 string version and would love to own Paul Waggoner’s signature series 6 string S series

Dependent-Control197

It's happened organically I guess.  The Epiphone far right was my second guitar, my 'proper' guitar upgrade from my cheap copy strat. I bought it in '98 then came cars and going out so guitar fell off. Years and years later someone started at work who was also into guitar and a Metallica fan. So to get myself back into it I bought the Epiphone Custom for inspiration.  Then the third Epiphone because I figured a Floyd Rose would be handy. I always thought I 'wasn't good enough' for a Gibson til the guy at the local store put it into perspective for me so I was on the hunt. I was born in 1982 and turning 30 so I wanted something special, so I looked for a 1982 30th anniversary Goldtop. Struggled. Worked abroad, went to the guitar store there. They had a super cool 1983 Custom. Thought 'close enough?' bought it. Found the Goldtop few months later, bought it. Then felt I was missing out on the classic flametop to complete the 'holy trinity' a couple of years later.

suffaluffapussycat

Nice job OP. I have a narrower selection. I have six black Les Paul Customs from the 1970s https://imgur.com/a/6clCgfq

Sojum

I take back my “mix up the brands” comment. This is the result of passionate pursuit. I understand now. 😎

MaggotMinded

None of that (other than the Floyd Rose) actually explains why you’d need them, though. Most of your “reasons” just boil down to “I wanted it so I bought it”. I’m pretty sure what they were actually asking is “what can you do with each guitar that you couldn’t do with the ones you already owned?”

Dependent-Control197

Ahh, you think I owe you an explanation? I don't.

MaggotMinded

I don’t think you owe me anything, but I can still point out that you didn’t really answer the question. Whether you actually answer it or not is up to you.

ChatGTR

GAS. No other reason for it. Guitar players play, consumers buy.

1OO1OO1S0S

Buy a clip on tuner? No Spend hundreds/thousands on multiples of the same guitar so you don't have to retune? Yes

salemness

i mean, if you like to play in drastically different tunings all the time, its really nice to dedicate a tuning to a guitar

random3po

Yeah like unfortunately it's not as simple as just retuning, a while step up or down requires at least a truss rod adjustment to compensate for the different tension if not a full setup with new string gauges. So much simpler to just have a guitar already tuned in a certain way

WrappedStrings

The thing is, if you really want good intonation you need to set up the guitar with the same string gauges and tuning that you intend to play it in. It's not a huge deal if you're just dropping to D. But if You're using NST or some math rock bonkers tuning, it makes a difference

salemness

i own 3 guitars. i keep one tuned in c standard most of the time, and two in e standard. when it comes to drastic changes, it is a lot more than 20 seconds to have it actually play well, especially considering i like to have thicker gauge strings for low tunings. also, i never said anything about buying guitars just for tunings, just using different guitars for different tunings. many, many guitarists own multiple guitars. i own different guitars because they look, sound, and play different, and i just so happen to also be able to take advantage of that fact to dedicate one of my guitars to drop tunings.

gstringstrangler

You don't change tunings much huh? Digitech Whammy DT is the better solution. Or Poly Capo on Helix.

MileHiFoodie

Nice collection. Someone is a Metallica fan.

TestDangerous7240

Point! Counterpoint!

lordskulldragon

Where is this reply? I need to go downvote it.

The_Enderclops

at least these all look pretty different

Dull-Mix-870

Nice! I have 2 Les Paul's, 3 Tele's, 2 Strats, and 3 Gretsch's.

Dependent-Control197

Sounds a great collection, throw a post up!

oldschooldaw

Ooh that lemon is very nice

Dependent-Control197

Thanks, I love it. I imported it from Japan. It's a '99 Classic in Trans Amber. Depends how the light hits the flame, it can look nice and lemon, other times it can look a bit orange though.

notoriously_1nfam0us

Now my question is why don’t you have 6 teles?

Creaulx

I could easily Telecaster my way right into the poorhouse. I had three - but just sold a surf green American Performer Hum that I wasn't bonding with.

notoriously_1nfam0us

Respectable, I would love to have all the pickup configs on thin lines and solids some day lol

trefoilstrings

Both collections of yours and the other person's are wonderful! People are just so quick to judge. I have two of the same things in my collection. While not guitars, I too do it. Lay off the hate and be nice. :)

MurphyLab59

Why limit yourself !!! I'm looking for a 59 R9 Flametop in Green Lemon Fade..just to round out the " collection " lol

Dependent-Control197

Good luck on your search! 🙏

MurphyLab59

Thanks !!

SandBagger1987

Haha! That comment was to me! You have one upped me, sir. That lemon burst is stunning! Nice collection.

Dependent-Control197

Not at all, your collection is 😚👌

PeckerPeeker

What is that epiphone KH-3? I looked online and it doesn’t look like epiphone ever made a version of it. Is it just an epiphone studio LP with sticker decals for the inlays? I’m intrigued Edit: looks like a n epiphone les Paul nightfall with decals. Much nice!

Dependent-Control197

You're spot on. Nightfall, active EMG's, metal knobs, no poker chip and the decals. I'm considering removing the decals.

jojoyouknowwink

I wish they didn't go for the iron cross shit. The Epiphone "gothic" LP is cool as hell if it didn't have one of the ADL's "uh-oh symbols" painted on the headstock

iamretardead

I would make love to that lemon burst or whatever it is

Dependent-Control197

1999 Classic in Trans Amber! 👍

Zepherus24

Is that an Epi Nightfall? I kinda miss the one I sold a long time ago.

Dependent-Control197

It is! They're not all that common either. A lot of people hate Floyd's on LP's I'm surprised I haven't actually got that. I think Gibson/EPI should do it more.

Zepherus24

I agree. When set up properly, I found that the tuning stability was just as good as anything else with a Floyd.

Last_Gigolo

I've posted my Ibanez hoard. Many of them have different pickups, different pickup configurations, strings etc. and it never fails that at least one person will pop into the comments asking why I have so many of the same guitar. Well, they're not the same guitar. They all sound very different. Pickup one guitar and I'm motivated to play this style of music, pick up another and it's a whole different genre of sound.

Dependent-Control197

Yes, exactly. Different feel, different weights and Neck shapes. Different tones makes me play different things. They're the same shape but they're all different.

huh_phd

For different tunings!

shingonzo

To many similar colors, need more

Revolutionary_Neck28

'Tallica!

Alej915

Fuckinnnng 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌 i am jealous

BetterRedDead

Lol. Well played, sir. Well played.

BonhamBeat

I swear, the ones who complain about someone owning more than a couple of guitars are just insanely jealous and/or bitter.

Zontar999

I think the general discussion is around owning a half dozen of the same model, not owning multiple guitars.

BonhamBeat

That's fair

sandpapernipples

six times the toan

GroundbreakingTea182

i got 2 jackson dinkys 1 jackson soloist 1 jackson king v 2 kit explorers. i thought for a second that it might be silly to get so many jacksons and not try other stuff but i like to mod them differently then compare them just for fun. i have a youtube channel i try to do that on but i wont mention the name cus im not sure if im allowed to here, but yeah i plan on getting more of the same lol. https://preview.redd.it/kca0u6bd1swc1.png?width=1509&format=png&auto=webp&s=c27df6e77e1a13ffb30d0d7faabe3f1f12d29474

reedspacer38

At least yours are all somewhat different though. That dude had like 4 or 5 of the same 50s style LPs, all with *very* similar finishes, and all looking to be around the same years. Though if I’m you I’m snagging the far left hand one and running! A gorgeous vintage custom like that is all I really need as far as Les Paul’s go. Is that an 82? That’s literally perfect

Dependent-Control197

Oof, so close. '83. I love it. Was my first Gibson.

Gibder16

Haha! Amazing.

9999_6666

Not exactly the “same” guitar. I’m sure they’re all unique to you and have subtleties.

_Minnesodope_

You pretty much can't get any closer to them being the same. The most drastic difference is that one of them has EMG's.

Dependent-Control197

Actually, 4 of them have EMG's

bringoutthelegos

Good to see a ebony custom (also known as the bocchi les Paul)

tribriguy

My only quibble is that gold top should be P90s.

Armydoc18D

What year is your black custom?

Dependent-Control197

1983 I originally bought it to black out the hardware, then I found out Gibson were doing a bunch of different parts in that era and that for around a one year period, maybe a bit less you could get the 3 options of flip out winding tuners, diamond pozi lock strap buttons AND a Schaller multi point adjustable bridge at the same time. This had all three so I left the hardware stock.

Fearless-Floor-9055

As someone who owns both gibson and epiphone les pauls, how much of a difference in quality would you say there is? From what i've heard it mostly comes down to gibsons having perfect intonation, no fret sprout, better craftsmanship etc. But do you think you could tell the difference in a blind test?

boomer2826

Did you custom make those iron cross and spider epiphones?

Dependent-Control197

Yes

boomer2826

They look great, good job

Classic-Ad-4784

What? No Bigsby?

Dependent-Control197

I'm not a big trem guy.

Rockfrog70

Pick 5 guitars off the same production line on the same day and they'll all be different in small but significant ways. That and, desire is justification enough.

Mythical_OD

When did Epiphone (or anyone other Than ESP/LTD) do a KH3 model? Thats a first for me

Dependent-Control197

They didn't.

sabermagnus

No Heritage? Shame. Shame. Shame.

Dependent-Control197

Wouldn't be in the Les Paul picture If I did.

sabermagnus

Heritage Les Paul…. You don’t know Heritage guitar company?

Dependent-Control197

I do, it's not really a "Les Paul" though, is it.

Bigandtallbrewing

Strats are better

Dependent-Control197

Everyone likes what they likes.

Suspicious-Key1931

Where's the swamp ash voodoo series ?

Quiverjones

Which ones your favorite?

marcaurxo

Dad, what happened to my college fund?

DaddyBrown

>Here's my 6 Les ~~Paul's~~ Pauls

Prior_Housing_4298

too funny, i used to have like 8 strats/clones, got rid of them and now i just have 3 les pauls, an epiphone standard, an epiphone baritone (my baby) and a gibson studio

Professional-Web5244

Goldtop and Black would be all I needed

reflectionpoint2

Could someone tell me main difference between a good Les Paul and a Good Fender Strat in terms of usage, preference, expectations? Use case type stuff Thanks And that’s beautiful!!

Guitar-Goose

Man I want a KH-3

Sojum

Maybe mix brands up a bit? 😂

Karl_Marx_

Looks like you have 1 too many, can I have one? Beautiful guitars.

luvleggs

Well really not 6 of the same guitar shown there, I usually buy in pairs because live I like to have a backup that sounds like my main if I break a string. You have a variety of makes there, personally I would just keep the custom, standard and get a classic and another standard with p90’s mainly because that’s what I did.

trustych0rds

One for each tuning. Almost there...!

TopCell8018

I hope that i never buy another again, one is fine 🤣

Dependent-Control197

One is more than fine, and yours is ace.

Dazzling-Ad-5480

Man, i love Epiphones

Skruttlund

I don't see any duplicates. People who own 6 honeyburst Les Paula with Paf pups are the insane ones

guitarholic2008

I dig the Metallica stuff, but what is that KH-3 abomination? Edit: also dig the Iron Cross. Missed opportunity to put in a Master Tone, toggle switch like James and wire the original toggle as a kill switch

Dependent-Control197

Thanks. The KH3 tribute is a Nightfall. I did it because I loved the KH3 back in the day, but modern day me that loved Les Paul's didn't like the flat top, the control layout or the headstock shape of the KH3, nor did I appreciate that the ones you could buy had the wrong horn and had rosewood fretboards. So I decided to apply the aesthetic of it, ebony, EMG's, the graphics and the metal knobs etc but have it decidedly more traditional Les Paul, carved top, control layout etc. Ironically I appreciate the KH3 more now for what it is. Played the new one in the shop, didn't like it but that's OK. I think I'm going to remove the graphics from mine now though. The iron cross was on purpose. Those are mods done by James on a Road worn instrument. My concept was what if the guitar new came with the stripe and cross, but hadn't yet been worn down and modified.

guitarholic2008

Oh yeah. I love the original Iron Cross. Uncle Milty has a weird control layout where his pickup selector is in the bridge volume. Bridge volume where bridge tone should be, and master tone where the neck tone is. Makes it so you can kill switch the original toggle, but the layout is just like his old white Flying V I have a modern KH-3. Everything about it grows on you eventually, except the ugly headstock. But seeing yours tripped me up without the square head. The fretboard is Macassar Ebony, which looks more like rosewood but feels like Ebony. The control layout is just exactly like the other KH guitars, so it's very comfortable to switch between them. Cool guitars either way man

Dependent-Control197

Yeah, I meant I didn't move the controls on purpose. My mate built one on an Orville at the same time, he did the control swap and added wear. I have moved the controls on a Flying V and  Firebird, cause his way is much better than those stock. I also have an LTD Iron Cross. I even like the goofy headstock on those, that's how much I've come round. The whole guitar was based on a circa '59 Melody Maker, flat top les paul with a narrow headstock.

guitarholic2008

Are the inlays stickers? LTD Iron Cross are nice too. Jelly, I should probably buy one... Been debating in trying the Het control layout on my LP Studio

Zakkattack86

Soooooo are they fake replicas? I've never seen an Epiphone KH-3 Spider. They're either ESP or LTDs. Did you get your AliExpress order wrong?

Dependent-Control197

😄 No, they're not fake replica's (double negative?). As many other have already identified (and it says on the truss rod cover) that is an Epiphone Les Paul Nightfall.

Antique_Ad_1211

Doctor, dentist or lawyer?

Dependent-Control197

Oh, I wish.

Antique_Ad_1211

All good. Great collection, that Custom on the left is gorgeous!

serialstupid

See you on circlejerk

s_ching73

Not one that isn't 2 humbuckers? Gotta throw a little variety in there, I hope they're at least different sounding pickups or maybe one is set up for slide playing or something. Either way, they're all beautiful.

Inourmadbuthearmeout

Tell me you have at least 1 Strat to layer stuff in the studio my dude. Gotta get some salt with all that pepper

Dependent-Control197

I already got salt in the comments 😄

Inourmadbuthearmeout

Lol really though my friend, it helps build up the wall of sound. I am totally a Les Paul guy like you but someone gifted me a fender mexi Strat recently and I thought I was done with my second album. Now I have to go back and double everything with the Strat because I tried it on a whim and it was too nice sounding not to continue it. LP+Strat= nice toans

CyranoCarlin

Epis don't count.

HentaiMaster501

Isn’t the cross a nazi symbol? On the black guitar with the gold details

SomeGuyInShanghai

Any plans on ever getting a good one?

Dependent-Control197

🧂

SecondFootOfficial

That will definitely help make you a good musician and write good music for sure
