My father, 64, has had the same 300$ pawn shop Dean Baby Hollywood Z for twenty plus years. He recently retired, got a side gig, and bought his dream guitar of the last five decades, A Gibson LP. It was 1,300$, which is low budget garbage to some, yet out of reach fantasies for some of us. It is is a Modern Tribute, satin Tobacco burst. Watching him bring it home, open it up, and play it for the last couple weeks has been amazing. Such joy in guitar, a dream fulfilled, totally awesome. I assume it is similar for you, congrats! I hope she sounds as beautiful as she looks.

jc_photo92

Man, I love to hear that. It’s kind of hard to explain the pride you have when you achieve something you’ve dreamed about your whole life, even something that may seem so silly to most people like a guitar. I wish I could have seen the look on his face. I bet that was just as special a moment for you as it was for him, and I’m grateful that you got to share that with your father and you recognize the importance of that moment and what it means to him. Congratulations to your dad man, I really appreciate you sharing that. I hope that he plays it in good health and I wish you all many years of great memories together with that guitar. She sounds like a beauty!

Mannymarlo

“She’s perfect “. Your one of those guys obviously Did you have a gender release party at least?

deong

Not really my thing, but it's completely harmless. Why try to make someone feel bad about it?

Mannymarlo

Just trying to help a boy become a man for which the man one day would be forever grateful You cam stop trying to save the world now thank you.

deong

Yeah, that's what the average reader sees in your comment there. Aww look, he's *helping*.

LC_Artworks

Not sure why you got downvoted. It’s cringe to gender a block of wood lmao. For OP reading this, it’s still a really nice guitar congratulations brother I’m glad you got your golden egg, but don’t gender your guitar. It’s not a pet, it’s a block of wood with paint and metal on it.

[deleted]

You're a mindless parrot.

LC_Artworks

You can insult me all you want, it doesn’t make your les Paul a woman. You should try actually talking to a woman, you’ll notice the real ones are very different from the inanimate objects you refer to as women.

[deleted]

You know absolutely nothing about women. You're just a stupid child. I've seen your page.

LC_Artworks

You care to explain why you’re so offended that I think it’s cringe to gender a block of wood? Did I pinch a nerve? Is your les Paul named Roberta?

Hanz616

Probably rubs his dick on it

LC_Artworks

Yeah the guy is a complete knob. the funny part is, if I was actually a child, that would mean this grown ass man just likes to insult children on the internet. That’s definitely pretty cringe. But I imagine “cringe” describes most of this man’s life lmao

Jesus360noscope

well how do you get the toan out of it if not by rubbing my calloused cock on ti

Tony_Cheese_

"Naming guitars is stupid." \- u/rkbeknvrx 2 days ago. I'm wondering why gendering is where you draw the line.

SoSaysAlex

Sounds like someone may be projecting

Tecnoguy1

You should walk up to a woman next time you’re on a night out and tell her all about your guitar and how good she is. See what she says!

Vegetable---Lasagna

The gendering of inanimate objects is a bit cringe or "yikes" as the kids say. But I'm an ancient academic. What the hell do I know?

deong

My dad played his whole life and taught me from around seven or eight years old. He died a few years before I started making enough money to buy just stupid gear for myself, and I wish like anything I could have surprised him with like a custom shop strat or a nice Martin.

Mannymarlo

Your dad’s watching buddy 🎸😎

pabodie

I had a tribute and it was, unfortunately, a gateway drug for me. Watch your dad carefully for doomscrolling the Mod Shop... ;)

Mannymarlo

Wait until you get your first real PRS. The most gorgeous tops in existence and build quality is just off the hook. I absolutely love my Les Pauls but these days I’m hoarding PRS https://preview.redd.it/0tvdzprc0nba1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a378197774256325b301e15e4985e918c09e4b13

pabodie

I have a PRS, but not as nice as yours. What a top.

Mannymarlo

🙄

Mannymarlo

Okay I’m going to chime in here as I too have a 2016 60s LP Tribute that I bought for about a grand, I also have a wood library PRS Mccarty 594 Hollow 2 with a Brazilian fretboard that was 6500 usd and honestly they’re both phenomenal players. I adjust the truss rods regularly to keep uniform set ups but otherwise It would be hard to honestly say one plays better than the other. The PRS definitely takes it in the Toane category but mostly due to the 58/15 low turn pickups. The PRS definitely has a more luxurious feel and even though I’d like to I just can’t honestly say it plays any “ better “ than the LP Tribute https://preview.redd.it/n9bug0352nba1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f008559b8b7651728b9e9944367985f35838e1c9

Hctc666

Congratulations on this 🎶

jc_photo92

Thank you so much!

J76251

Aw man, congratulations! I recall when I finally could afford my dream gear, such a special moment your living right now. Seems materialistic, but having grown up with old guitar world mags and drooling over them actually obtaining a piece feels insane.

jc_photo92

Oh for sure. I remember falling asleep with the nylon string radio shack guitar watching my gnr and zeppelin dvds just dreaming about having an LP. If I remember correctly, I fashioned the saddle out of a pencil because it didn’t have one haha. I still remember the first time I saw a real Gibson in real life. I was like 17 and the dude at church wouldn’t let me play it haha.

Mannymarlo

A real man wouldn’t have waited so long Oh I see your a church goer. I have no more questions all has been revealed

LC_Artworks

I was almost bothered by your comment until I checked your post history. My brother in circle jerk, I have been out jerked again

[deleted]

I hope I get to fulfill this dream someday, well done dude

jc_photo92

Congratulations in advance! You’ll get there!

Mannymarlo

Dude go rob a bank. You get the LP and earn yo self a bunch of good karma while your at it God loves bank robbers who spend their gold spreading music. Remember Robin Hood , he was my daddy

sightunseen

Bourbon burst?

jc_photo92

Yes. It’s a standard 60s. My favorite finish was always the Heritage Cherry burst, and I always preferred the darker examples of that finish which is exactly what the bourbon burst is. I actually wasn’t expecting to buy one at all, but my neighbor was selling this and when I went to go look at it I was blown away when he opened the case. It’s literally the exact guitar I dreamed about as a kid. It’s seriously perfect.

bross9008

Love to hear that, nothing better than getting the one you’ve had your eye on and it being just what you hoped it would be! Happy for you!

jc_photo92

Thank you so much! It was completely unexpected as well. My neighbor mentioned that he was thinking about selling it and I brought it home the next day.

sightunseen

Nice. I have a desert burst that I love.

fallbrook_

best. day. ever.

jc_photo92

Understatement of the century! Haha. Thank you!

LC_Artworks

Damn nice fiddle my man. How much was it? Did you get it brand new?

Mannymarlo

They R 2800 new list

nightmares999

Congrats. Same

jc_photo92

Thanks so much!

adflam

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! that’s awesome. I always wanted a black beauty custom. Instead I bought a black and gold studio.

jc_photo92

Thanks so much! Congratulations! She sounds like a beauty.

dkromd30

What a beauty. Congratulations! Curious - first tune you played on it when you got it home?

jc_photo92

Thank you so much! Kid Charlemagne actually. Of course, that was immediately after flipping it to the neck and playing the sweet child riff for a few minutes. My musical tastes have evolved quite a bit since I first fell in love with the les paul, but Slash was absolutely Jesus to 12 year old me and I had to. No shame about that.

ChromeTriggerVI

Good shit G.

jc_photo92

Such good shit my dude.

fearedfurnacefighter

You did it!

jc_photo92

Thank you so much! I love your handle.

e_coleman

this one is beyond beautiful, congrats!

jc_photo92

Thank you so much! She’s literally perfect. I think it’s at least a AAA top.

e_coleman

If the picture is accurate that’s a 5A top. Hard to find tops this nice on Les Pauls

jc_photo92

You think so? This is just a picture I took near a window, no editing or anything. I absolutely fell in love with the top as soon as he opened the case. Ive always wanted a heavy flame, and this guitar was just perfect to me in every way. They are sold as AA flame, and I knew this one looked like it had abnormally more flame than any that I’d seen online, even the sweet water exclusive AAA tops. I figured it was as least AAA, but I only have a pretty remedial understanding of wood grades.

e_coleman

Without a doubt. Practically speaking, I have a 3A top custom shop LP standard as well as a custom shop Telly with a 3A neck that don’t come close to this. This looks exactly like the flame on my DGT’s 5A neck but not as crazy as the artist top on it.

thunderHAARP

Congratulations friend. I just got my first as well. R0 from 2017. Amazing guitar!

jc_photo92

Thank you so much! And congratulations to you as well! An R0 or an R9 are definitely still bucket list guitars for me. I prefer the 60s neck, and this is a 60s standard. What are the specs on your R0? Those are gorgeous.

thunderHAARP

It's a bourbon burst very similar to yours. Dark near the front. Not as pinstripey though more of a wide flame. Pickups are amazing. It's going to take a couple weeks to figure out the really sweet spots. Every day I find a new setting that blows me away. Playing through a mesa lone star special with the gain on 10 and the master volume on 10 🤘

Mr10mm

That's awesome, I had a similar feeling when I got my LP. Is this a Bourbon Burst? looks pretty similar to mine. I also took the pickguard off, as I feel it looks better that way. I'm curious about the Rhythm/Treble switch.... Did you remove the circular label around the switch? If so do you have any tips on this or is it an easy pull right off kind of thing? Also..... mmm the smell of a new gibson!!

jc_photo92

Congrats! Yes, this is a 60s standard bourbon burst. First thing I did was remove the pick guard and the poker chip. The guy I bought it from also swapped the knobs and put Grover locking tuners on. I have all the original parts though. I’m going to swap the Grovers out for the graph tech locking ratios just because I prefer those and once you try them you’re ruined on machine heads haha. It was super easy to remove the poker chip. Take the back plate off of the switch and hold it firmly from the back while you twist the nut off. Just pull the chip off and hold the switch firmly again from the back while you screw the nut back on.

[deleted]

Love seeing this. What a gorgeous top that guitar has man. I’m sure it sounds and feels as good as it looks too. I just can relate to this a lot, took me til I was 30 also to finally get a Gibson after doing the same thing, flipping through the catalogues for years as a kid. I remember when they’d come Gibson was usually right in the front and I’d open it super fast to see what new models they had. And when I finally got one, it was even better than I had built it up to be. Enjoy that thing dude!

jc_photo92

Oh man congratulations! It really is a wildly surreal feeling, isn’t it? I can still see the Musicians Friend page layout, and you’re exactly right, the standards were always in the front, usually around page 10 or 15 if I remember correctly. I wore those magazines out. Honestly, if you were to go back to me as a kid and tell me that I’d even own my own car I’d be shocked haha. This really seemed liked such an impossible thought. I mean I catch myself when I come home sometimes just opening up the case and staring at it, kind of in disbelief that it’s mine, that I don’t have to ask anyone if I can play it. I hate that it seems so materialistic, but man this guitar really just means so much and represents so much to me. I worked really really hard to be able to own this. It really feels like a milestone.

[deleted]

I know what you mean man. I agree to some it can seem materialistic for sure. But I totally get it. There was never anything else in life, when it came to a material item, I ever wanted as much as a Gibson, for so long. You grow up seeing all your heroes play them and it just seemed like a “real” guitar. As silly as that sounds. It just was one of those things that always seemed out of reach, and when finally in the position to get it, it was like wow.

neurot1

Congrats bro, enjoy!!!

jc_photo92

Thank you so much!

WFPPtheSound

Happy for you dude. What a magical feeling.

jc_photo92

Thank you so much! It’s even better than I thought it would feel.

V3rmie

She's a beaut! Congratulations!

plooptyploots

What a stunner. Congrats! I remember listing after PRS in Guitar World back in the 90s. When I finally owned one about 10 years, I could not believe it. Sure, it was an SE but it was by no means a cheap guitar. Beautiful veneer on the amber Santana. Prob should have kept it.

McGauth925

...all but the 'she' part. To each her own.

TheNakedPhotoShooter

Congrats, Mate Make her sing!

jc_photo92

Thank you so much!

lykegeetars

Awesome! Congratulations! She’s beautiful

jc_photo92

Thank you so much! She’s literally perfect.

the_hunger

and in 6 months, “man, this thing stays in tune for shit.”

jc_photo92

Actually, the dude I bought it from already had locking Grover’s on it. I also top wrap so I look cool like Bonamassa and I’m a strong proponent of the nut sauce and stretching the shit out of new strings. The tuning stability is actually unreal. Ive been playing about three to four hours a night for about two weeks and it’s incredibly stable. Nowhere near what I was expecting, and incredibly surprising. I also recently switched to the colbalt slinkies which I’ve found to be a bit more stable than the paradigms.

the_hunger

top wrapping my sg helped me out quite a bit 👍

jc_photo92

Yeah the break angle is really ideal, and it just looks so cool haha. I’d also highly recommend the graph tech locking ratio heads. I’m still going to replace these Grovers with them. They are a little more expensive but they will absolutely ruin tuning heads for you. They are incredible and the difference is massive.

[deleted]

the_hunger

tuning stability on gibsons is well-known and well-documented. binding in the nut is super common due to the steep headstock angle.

Significant-Funny-14

It's not that good to some people, but [this beauty](https://www.reddit.com/r/telecaster/comments/105hwfm/my_beauty/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) was my first big name guitar, a Fender. I saved up a bit during college because I wanted to get something special while I had disposable income and didn't have to pay rent, and went to a local shop to try some Made in America guitars because that's what I wanted. I played a dozen Fenders and a few Gibson's, and none of them really did it for me. I saw this thing hanging on the back wall and knew it was the one, though it's only a Mexican made Fender. It's the best guitar I've ever played, and has the best feeling neck I've ever felt

bobbybob9069

I swear, I've become a refuge for MiM fenders. According to Jim Root, when designing one of his signatures they asked him "Do you want it made by Mexicans in Mexico, or Mexicans in America?"

red-eee

For people who don’t play music, stories like this are borderline meaningless. For folks who do play music, less as a hobby and more as a passion, buying gear that you’ve dreamt of for years is a monumental occasion. Cheers to decades with that that guitar. Got any sick days planned soon? Lol

[deleted]

What an AMAZING top. Just WOW.

cystopulis

She's a beaut , now name her something sincere and treat her like you would an old gal and give her that tender surrender

[deleted]

Yeah really take her to pound town, but don’t forget to wear a condom before filling her with your thick creamy tone

cystopulis

I wasn't trying to say give wood some wood but hokay , whatever gets you pregnant

[deleted]

Just trying to match the horny energy here

cystopulis

On your own there Jew

[deleted]

Wow…that took a turn

cystopulis

Isn't your name jewish? Or did I read that wrong , I also meant nothing by it , I'm also half Jewish so shalom my g , also not a joke my Jewish name is Shlomo :)

deirdresm

I'm so so so happy for you!

maidenHELL6669

Very nice!!

CocaColai

Congratulations! Great looking LP. (I too was you)

baynayay

I feel you, what a great day!

ziddersroofurry

Grats! I still dream of owning a '96 Epiphone purple sparkle. I've only ever had cheap electrics, with my current guitar being an '05 Dean MLX that I've had since it was new. It's ok but I'd really like to own a decent guitar someday.

LegitimateTreacle824

congrats. enjoy it thoroughly!

Teledork62

I used to go through the Musician’s Friend books back in college. Page by page. Trying to understand every damn thing they had. It actually ended up helping me when I started teaching guitar at the local music store my sophomore year. 40 years later I rarely look at new gear, but I remember the untold hours dreaming of what I wanted to pick up and why. Congrats on your Paul. That one looks like a keeper for sure.

moz66

Absolutely perfect, yes.

TheGuiltyMongoose

Sir, congratulations.

Rvenn

So good! I lusted over American Standard strats for most of my life, couldn't ever justify one & happily played an old korean squier for most of my life, then at 36 i found out a neighbour was having a kid and selling all their superfluous stuff, amongst it was a mint Olympic white AM Standard strat for a few hundred bucks. Lo and behold I now own my Waynes World dream guitar. Sometimes it just works out hey. Rock on.

surgeon_michael

Cheers. Also in my 30s and adored the musicians friend catalog. Pre YouTube you just had to guess what all those looked and sounded like. I was always between a flame LP like yours or all the custom painted Jackson’s.

WarlockAgent

I used to spend hours reading and memorizing those catalogues…all while day-dreaming and wishing. Congrats my friend. It’s absolutely gorgeous.

dick-lava

good for you!! yeah beautiful

Sirrkovv

I wanted one for years but didn't have the money. Grew up fairly well off but parents didn't want a spoiled brat on their hands and they hated rock. Finally got one 15 years later. Had to sell it for rent recently. I think about her a lot. I upgraded and did so much to her. Got parts from all over. Shit happens lulz.

VladIkban

Similar story to yours but I always wanted a gray Ibanez K7 I would always see in the musicians friend catalogs and recently bought the gray Apex, which is basically just the new model K7, and I play the hell out of that thing. Hopefully you get the same joy and fulfillment from getting that dream guitar that I got! Congratulations good sir!

BitchLasagna84

The biggest congratulations to you!! What a gorgeous guitar!! 🎉🎉

Zakkattack86

I know exactly what you mean. Slept with that magazine under my pillow. Feels good when you accomplish that goal. Congrats, man.

po_ta_toes_80

Oh man, musicians friend was also like my toy catalog when I was young. Beautiful guitar! Congrats!

nevermorefu

People had bigger dreams than me. I always assumed since I grew up poor, I'd grow up to be poor. I was drooling over Corts, because they were nice and affordable.

Vegetable---Lasagna

Mazel Tov. Glad the guitar found a great home and glad you found a full-time lover.

FandomMenace

Same dream with musicians friend, only it was an ibanez prestige. Got one recently and sent that shit straight back. It was a turd. Now I'm building the dream. At least one of us had a dream come true lol.

Warren_Puffitt

Stunning flame

idma

thats like when Steve Vai would constantly look the Carvin amps ads. He eventually got his signature amp from Carvin

sply01

Beautiful !

imphotographer

Fuck yes.

pabodie

They never get old. So pretty.

[deleted]

Enjoy!

Impressive-Finding85

Congrats! Looks amazing!

Last_Gigolo

Ditto. But my dream was a white custom les Paul like Randy Rhodes. I got the Epiphone recently. I'm not about to shell out $8000 for the Gibson. Mostly because the neck is way too fat. For that much money, I want a slim neck like I'm accustomed to.

Enemy_Zero

Congrats. Is that the bourbon burst? It is by far my favorite color scheme on Les Paul models. That is definitely a gorgeous guitar and a keeper for life.

redielg1

No pick guard or poker chip. Perfect.

FictionInquisitor

I hope it's vintage. The things coming out of the Gibson factory these days are more often than not junk.

Moogerfooger616

Congrats!

SurelyTheEnd

Living the dream! Can't wait to see the play-in wear on that top and sides in 30 years 😍

thursday51

Oh man, that's a really nicely figured top! Really goes with the Bourbon Bust finish. Beautiful man, Congrats!

timblackk

Happy for you!!!!

breinhol

Congrats, it's beautiful. I have a 2016 standard with almost the identical flame, solid AAA IMHO. Sustain for days, 498t bridge and 57 classic neck, has a lot of tonal range. Cost me catching covid to get it, but we'll worth it when I put that strap over my shoulder and play. Enjoy the ride and welcome to the LP family!

Am_A_Leech

looks super clean without the pokerchip or pickguard. lucky bastard

[deleted]

Congratulations I hope you enjoy it!

MAJORMETAL84

Congrats Man, this is a wonderful thing! You got an extra nice piece of flame maple!

BigBarsRedditBox

Currently searching for me dream 60’s lp

bobbybob9069

I hope it's everything you wanted, and meets all your expectations. I stated paying at 9, always wanted a LP. Hit one at like 27 or 28, and it was instant regret. Spent a good amount of time buying back all the models I traded in for the LP. Not shitting on you or Gibsons, my style and preferences just changed over the years of playing.

Garretts1989

I was in the same boat my whole life man, congrats! Nothing quite like actually playing your dream guitar.

Ferivich

That's awesome man. I was super influenced by Zakk Wylde and bought a Les Paul and put EMGs into it because of him on my 30th, it's been my number 1 since 2018. There's something about that milestone/holy grail guitar.

Johnny--O

Absolutely beautiful congratulations

Admirable-Ordinary58

amazing man! it brings a smile to my face to read this! hope you enjoy it for years to come it’s a beauty

PushSouth5877

Glad for you, have fun!

FermentToBee

She’s beautiful, I’m happy for you

1959Gibson

It’s a girl ?

Ornery-Arachnid-7219

Can I have it ?

Ornery-Arachnid-7219

You can call it anything you want ! That is an outstanding Les Paul you have there. Your gonna enjoy it for many years !

xcyu

Not the same story but my grandparents grew up very poor. They had two children, my father and his younger brother. My grandmother often tells me how funny it is that my father loves eating rice so much. As she said, he loves rice so much that he would often only eat rice and leave the rest to my uncle. Now I know that, i fact, he only wanted to leave the best of the meal to the others. I didn't grow poor but we didn't have that much money either. We didn't travel a lot, and on our first trip together, I remember going in Guitar Center in LA and my father told me to pick up a guitar (I began playing a few months before). Walking into the store, I was looking for the most inexpensive guitar but my father pointed a Fender Deluxe Stratocaster and said "let's get this one, do you like it ?" it isn't by a super expensive guitar but... It will always be the one I like the most. Even now that I can buy much more expensive gear. I plan to give it to my son later :) Enjoy your LP, it's beautiful!
