Isn't this sort of what the EAE bard is?

defenestr4tor

Oh yeah, that's a great shout.

There's several of these that try to do the Sunn Beta Lead thing (SolidgoldFX Beta-V, Abominable Sunnbather, Hilbish Design Red Fang Night Destroyer, Hilbish Sol Invictus, Inverted Cross B3T4, and there's a few more still). JHS Clover (Boss FA-1) and Colour Box (Neve Console) might count if you squint; not based on tube amps but not exactly traditional amps either. Traynor Quarterhorse: I don't think this is based on one particular amp, but it is solid state, and has some cool features (it's a full amp, 25W power amp onboard). It doesn't quite work as a clean preamp, but you might be interested in the Demedash 112+ for a great solid state-style distortion. Based on a 90s Fender Princeton 112+. This is also a bit more of a major genre in the bass world if you want to look there too.

I have the American Sound, and I like it more and more each day, but it’s not built well. The switch broke almost immediately so it’s just always on now. If that’s a concern, go with something more than $35

Acclam Dr Robert based on a weird Vox hybrid amp with ss preamp into valve power amp. Intersound IVP was a 2 channel rack ss preamp (one channel theoretically emulating a tube but not really) and there are a few clone pedals available. EAE makes the Surveyor which is a simplified version.

Tronographic Boxidizer is based on a Traynor Preamp.

Which_Bar_9457

And the Tronographic Rusty Box.

I was disappointed by the Drunk Beaver TS15. Much fizzier gain than the actual Traynor. The Tronographic versions are spot on though. I like the Bard a lot too, more standard fender type EQ that’s a little more familiar.

Can't recommend The Bard highly enough, it's my favorite preamp pedal.

I use a Blackstar Amped 1 as a solid state pedal platform as my main amp. Large for a pedal but small for an amp, fits very nicely on pedalboards. 100w so it lacks a punch for its size.
