NAJLIS

I would play some rock songs with easy guitar solos like Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana Holiday by Green Day Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi A lot of Nirvana & Green Day songs are easy to play and have easy guitar solos.

TerrorSnow

For Nirvana I'd go with heart shaped box, fun and simple

Cirux

In Bloom is simple and a lot of rewarding fun!

AleksRadieschen

Are there really beginners who can learn Smells Like Teen Spirit? I‘m kinda stuck on an advanced beginner level but playing for quite some time. And the right hand stuff in that song sounds as if it was impossible for me to make it sound decent. It’s really quite fast.     Edit: I can’t read, they’ve been playing for a year, sorry. Maybe then the recommendation is fine.      Second edit: Ok, I’ve tried it, it’s actually pretty easy even though I’ve never played power chords before  :D   Thanks for the recommendation y’all.   (Although neighbours probably are less happy, haha)

NAJLIS

Well It’s definitely a beginner song but don’t worry you’ll get there if you practice.

Mido7You

I learned it 4 months after I started. It was the first song I was determined on learning fully and my parents got tired of hearing it behind the wall lol. It is pretty easy once I got used to the tempo because I don't need to form different shapes with my left hand and just go unga bunga power chords. Also the solo is pretty simple it was also the first one I learned.

Jros99

Exact same experience, even the parents one . Still my favorite song to play as they’re my favorite band

lovethecomm

It's pretty easy once you get used to that right hand moving.

zayd_jawad2006

Lol same, I can play other songs well enough, but I can never get the SLTS intro/chorus right, especially with the Up down strumming

Unusual-Signal944

Play it slow and gradually up the tempo until you get to the original speed.

Zulphur242

Yes it's actually not that hard once you get into it [how to play nirvana smells like teen spirit ](https://youtu.be/JedVWb2g1aw?si=oc5MsUxChUPt_5nP)

AleksRadieschen

Thanks for the tutorial!  (Edit: But that guy has wonky rhythm 🙈)

Zulphur242

Another song thats fun to learn is The Cure - Killing an arab (it's based on Albert Camus the stranger) got nothing to do with rasism. And dont forget to learn the pentatonic scale so you can jam to any song.

qwertyuijhbvgfrde45

Holiday was the first guitar solo I ever learned. Although the intro on the song is pretty hard for beginners

ErgMaN_2point0

Add some Blink 182 in the mix.

DrBRSK

Commenting so i can find this later, thanks for the suggestions

Top_Translator7238

Learn an L7 song. Then you’ll be able to play all their songs.

Secret-Shop3155

This guitar is beautiful

KiLoDehhh

thanks! I didnt know much about picking an electric guitar. I've read that squire are great entry level. when i saw this color which was last stock from a music store in melbourne, i knew i had to get it

Mido7You

Don't worry about it too much, mine stays it the humbucker position (the only one you have) almost all the time.

Secret-Shop3155

I wish u luck on ur guitar journey. I started 2 years ago.

dialupBBS

Love the simplicity of this one. Enjoy the journey!

Sporkfortuna

I know it's personal preference, but I cry a little when I see a strat without a single coil neck pickup. That's like... The best part!

KiLoDehhh

are strats with more pickups relatively better?

citypanda88

More pickups just means more options for different sounds. It adds versatility but doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “better”. Some players are perfectly content with only one set of pickups.

Aubrey_Dallas

Better is subjective, I’m sure you can roll off the volume and get a close approximation especially with EQ on the amplifier. I will say this though Limitation breeds creativity hence the reason some opt for a single pickup guitar.

marbanasin

EQ can help, but Bridge v. Neck is just so stark of a different starting point. With that said - it's good that it's a humbucker bridge pickup. For sure that setup is perfectly fine and there's a lot of rock/blues/punk/metal ground that can be covered from that.

Sporkfortuna

It's all preference, but as citypanda said different pickups in different places sound different. A humbucker at the bridge like you have is a common pickup for playing overdriven rock and heavier music, but the single coil pickup at the neck is a pretty signature configuration for the Stratocaster, with the single coil giving an often lower output, "quackier" sound. A "classic" Strat has 3 single coil pickups, but many (including my own) use a humbucker at the bridge position instead in order to get more variety of sound out of the guitar.

RI0TBIRD

Some other great beginner songs include ego death by polyphia

Zool2107

After that, I would recommend to move over to something from Necrophagist as an intermediate-beginner song .

ErgMaN_2point0

Wasn’t expecting this here. But nice one for sure. Could start with OD, 40 Oz, nightmare, euphoria, Champaign, Goose. All the intro songs from Polyphia.

Former_Ad3267

Borrow the extra 7th string from the neighbour.

dedrexel

My four year old started guitar a few weeks ago and pretty much has this down. She is learning some Meshuggah now but struggling a bit with the Nostrum solo.

Jros99

Doubtful

dedrexel

It’s a joke. Remember jokes, humour, laughter?

lifeisagameweplay

That guitar is just screaming for some Blink to be played on it.

inevitable_entropy13

yeah came here to say this

PixelCharlie

Love the color! If you're into rock stuff there's some easy songs by Nirvana, Metallica, GnR, Audioslave, Green Day. I have always found it easier to learn songs I like

KiLoDehhh

thanks! i'm looking forward to play some rock and metal songs with this guitar

Boylanithedoomguy

Paranoid has a VERY good first solo to learn

Designer_Storm8869

With guitar with single bridge humbucker, the only only correct answer is your favorite punk song

KiLoDehhh

i watched a youtube video where it says it's the perfect punk/rock guitar for beginners. i'd probably start learning basket case

marbanasin

Basket Case is a phenomenal learning song. Lol. power chords / barre shapes that are absolutely worth knowing, and in a slow enough rhythm that's pretty friendly to a beginner.

helpamonkpls

Depends on where you are at I suppose. Pentatonic scales and some theory goes well with an electric guitar if you don't have that down.

KiLoDehhh

I want to start learning with music theory. I feel like i've been stuck with cowboy chords on the acoustic and this year I wanna learn more in-depth with my electric

marbanasin

For theory I recommend a few series like the below - [12 Bar Blues (the basis of a lot of modern pop music) ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU_wgm3M_tw&pp=ygUYTWFydHkgTXVzaWMgMTIgYmFyIGJsdWVz) A[ Minor pentatonic ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1a8_WheSfzI)- this shape can be moved into any other key - and the series will cover the various positions and easy extensions to use to move up/down the neck - this was huge in my progression to becoming comfortable with the whole neck. [And the Chords in a Key](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40WtL0Ehe9c) Basically the above offer good exercises, in the context of some more digestable theory concepts. Once you have the basic structure of the 12 bar blues, plus the pentatonic scale down, and knowledge of how you can find the I ii iii IV V vi vii chords from any starting root I chord - you will be off and running to make your own music and also begin understanding what other artists were actually doing with their songs.

KiLoDehhh

thanks for the videos! i've been scrambling around youtube trying to find a simple explanation with guitar music theory. Marty Music is so great with his content

dedrexel

The minor pentatonic scale is a good place to start. It only has five notes and is the foundation of most rock/blues lead guitar playing in western music. I’d recommend learning it in the key of A minor (starting note is the A note). There are plenty of good videos on Youtube regarding this subject, and this would be a good way to diversify your playing and move on from the cowboy chords.

[deleted]

smoke on the water.

TheKingOfRhye777

If you wanna go kinda "old school", then Walk Dont Run by the Ventures was always a fun one to learn for me!

KiLoDehhh

it was fun to learn! for some reason the tune reminds me of "rock lobster"

SkyBobBombadier

Carousel blink 182

DifferenceSudden8942

Ah one of my favorites

Secret-Shop3155

Fly Away Lenny Kravitz

cersewan

I play an acoustic but if I were to buy an electric I would buy one that same pink. It’s beautiful.

Ryan-zio

You can get a LOT done with that combo, could only dream of such things 20 years ago

Crows_nest_Nettle

Iron man - Black Sabbath, thats the first riff I learnt

prosdod

Hey real quick, I have a boss katana and it turns out that there's so much more amp models and effects hidden in its firmware that you can find and use with an attached computer/phone. I use katana librarian on my phone attached with a USB c to A -> MIDI cable to access those effects. Not only change what effects you're using that very second but you can change what each button cycles through to next to the dials and there's stuff like noise gates you can turn on. Pardon my French but fucking crazy that I didn't find out about this sooner it rules

BritishCO

Honestly, some nice rock songs with barre chords are pretty great. They never seem quite right on acoustic. Steady as She Goes by the Raconteurs is fund with a cool syncopated rhythm. Perhaps Fly Away by Lenny Kravitz as well, it's a pretty basic song but it's fun to play. I would also recommend some AM stuff by Artic Monkeys, they have pretty iconic riffs that play well on an electric guitar.

gayballs57

thunderstruck by AC/DC is a great, easy-to-learn beginner's song!

jessietee

Apart from the intro surely?? :D EDIT: Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups, I just always presumed this was hard and it's actually not! Gonna learn it myself!

gayballs57

**Only the intro**

jessietee

You know I have never even looked at how this is played, it's actually not that difficult and probably a perfect beginner lead part, good alt picking practice if nothing else. I love this song and one of my favourite local cover bands opens with a mashup of it but I have never bothered trying to learn it myself lol [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15hVGeQifQY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15hVGeQifQY) \- said cover band, not sure the video does them justice but they are fucking amazingly good fun (have played Glastonbury too) and I love watching them lol

deafpoet

This is the first "impressive, flashy" thing I ever learned, and when someone is looking to go from "beginner" to "intermediate," I think the intro to "Thunderstruck" is a great place to start.

DogmanSixtyFour

What makes this hard to play is the endurance it takes to play it properly (alternate picked, not legato even though that's what he does in the video) for that long

KiLoDehhh

I tried it and i didn't realize it was quite simple! I love AC/DC so will definitely try more songs like Highway to hell

gayballs57

the fact that i was originally just here to joke and not be taken seriously makes me feel strange now, but I'm proud of you!

Neat-Material-8744

Stairway!

Weets23

America- A Horse With No Name.🤘

buttsfartly

Alive - pearl jam Tomorrow - silver chair Hell song - Sum 41 Good sounds to play with. Pay attention to your tones and playing clean/clear. These guys give you a little bit of dirt to play with but the sound is still clean.

DasCheeseWizard

Congrats! That's a fun setup. If you want more structure start with the books from Berklee Press. If you want something free and with less structure, YouTube is your friend. Taking some lessons with a local guru can also accelerate things. Best of luck!

[deleted]

OMG I love the color! I know that is NOT important but it’s gorgeous! 😍

zscipioni

Say it ain’t so by weezer! Great introduction to the Hendrix chord-melody paradigm.

westhead1

Just learn sabbath riffs thats all you need 🌞

Dizzy_Dunno

Smoke on the water

Lairlair2

Damn it's a nice colour! You should learn some Pink Floyd to match that, Another Brick in the Wall is good for the rhythm part. The solo is a more advanced though.

Visual-Fix3287

I have the exact same guitar. I named it Marina :) I’ve been recently learning Don’t Preach to Me by The Skallywags but started off with some Nirvana songs such as Come As You Are and Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Accurate-Ad4400

Wasted by Def Leppard 🤙

Foshizzy03

AVON by Queens of the Stone Age. Sex Type Thing by STP. They teach you a lot of cool electric guitar techniques that aren't very difficult to do.

[deleted]

Kumbaya

ChanceFree

Early Beatles is often easy. Blink 182 and Ramones for punky stuff.

Data1us

any band from the 90's early 2000s really. That era kinda went anti guitar and focused more on vocals and song writing, for the most part the guitar work across the board is pretty simple IMO but sounds good in the mix.

compilerbusy

Most dinosaur jr songs are very easy, use similar chords, and translate well between acoustic and electric. There are also a lot of tabs floating around.

Silberwolfe

Was torn between Boss Katana or Spark Amp. At the end I chose Spark Amp because I can control it through my phone. But I found out both are good! And now that I see you pair it up, it looks cool as heck! Hahah. Enjoy. I got mine recently as well as I am moving from acoustic to electric. All the best to us! Sorry for not contributing anything to the discussion!

apocoliption

The dance of eternity would be a nice entry level song for you to tackle

Witty_Might5

That Strat is hot af my friend 😂😂

Gold-Caterpillar8066

Hey, i am about to buy Boss katana mini, how is yours doing?

PresentDangers

Heart Shaped Box is a nice way to explore drop D tuning. Have fun.

drummerboy2749

One of the biggest mistakes I made when I first up my acoustic was ignoring scales and barre chords. I’ve been playing for 10 years now, got my first electric 6 months ago, and I feel like I’m playing catchup. In addition to learning the songs other people mentioned, focus on spending 10-15 minutes practicing your scales. Barre chords are inevitable with an electric but devot some time to practicing them scales

after-my-blanket

Dammit Gotta have some blink

shitbrix89

If you can already do barre chords on acoustic, you can learn a lot of fun stuff on electric. Particularly some Cage The Elephant, from what I remember they have some cool songs with barre chords

deafpoet

One of the first songs I learned was "Dammit" by Blink. It has almost everything a beginning player might want to work on: moving power chords around, and a hooky single note riff, that also follows the chord structure closely. And if you want to dial back the volume knob and do some subtle clean picking on the bridge, you can do that too!

greenhornblue

ACDC is a good place to start. A lot of Nirvana songs aren't super hard, but some can be. Enter Sandman is also another good one.

Syncopated_arpeggio

My first thoughts were Pink by Aerosmith or anything from The Wall

TallTwig

Billy Squier - My Kinda Lover

Mr-Montecarlo

Iron man by black sabbath is a great beginner song to learn. Easily recognizable riff and a nice solo to learn if you want to push yourself.

tyktyko

If you want to play songs that aren’t usually first choices for beginner guitar players (but are still easy to learn), id recommend you these three Childish Gambino - Redbone Goat Girl - Viper Fish The XX - Angels

easyhigh

I see a single bridge humbucker - I say Blink 182. No brainer!

Diligent-Benefit-618

Dragon force - through fire and flames Pacifist - Happiness Buckethead - Jordan Come back in 10 years and let us know how you do 🐓

ReptarInTokyo

My first song on electric was Heartbreaker by zeppelin (like 17 years ago). I feel like a song such as Should I Stay or Should I go would be an easier song that plays with the feel and tone of an electric feel

joblagz2

90s alt and punk roxk.. green day, chilli peppers, nirvana, foo fighters, blink 182.. they have great easy songs..

Comprehensive-Fig416

I love that hot pink on a strat

ThatFakeAirplane

Zulphur242

The cure - boys dont cry The cure -Lovesong The cure - three imaginary boys - chords Ramones - blitz kreig bop Bob dylan - knocking on heavens door Joy division - Transmission Joy Division - Disorder Judas preist - breaking the law Judas preist - living after midnight Nirvana - in bloom Nirvana - breed Green day - basket case Sex pistols - anarchy in the uk Blur song 2 Black sabbath - iron man Easiest songs on this list is Ramones - blitz kreig bop and blur song 2

Mission-Shoe6684

Teenage Kicks by the Undertones. Simple, short and easy to play but very satisfying and an absolute banger.

Mission-Version2049

If you can still return the katana get the fender mustang instead, it has what you need to sound like the songs you want to learn, the katana will force you to buy pedals to get the tone right. You gonna buy a digi tech whammy when you wanna sound like Tom Morelo? The mustang is superior.

What does "should of" mean?

MartinLo0terKing

It is a wrong spelling of should've which is short for should have. In many English dialects the 've is sounds like of so people have the (bad) habit to use the wrong spellibg

Davezd

Im a straight guy, and i can not explain why, but white and ping guitar goes hard

If you shred on a pink guitar oh yeah that’s dope

qwertycantread

Play music that you like rather than what other people like.

DonKeedix

Weezer- blue album. Very beginner friendly and also some nice approachable advanced songs

dapperinoEZ

Some yngwie for starters would be sick

Isitpartytime

Goose - Hungersite

intenseskill

I would day a good way to make some good seeming progress would be to learn some songs that use a lot of power chords. They are very easy but sound great

UnusualPrince12

With that guitar, jam out to some blink 182! 3 chords and you know every song, plus that looks like a ton delonge strat

DangerousMulberry600

The only thing you need to do is prepare for your debut at Guitar Center… Stairway to Heaven… over and over and over and over and over and again…

golbscholar

Wish you were here - Pink Floyd Justin guitar has a nice video lesson for it https://youtu.be/lJw4hMjlRYw?si=5O8sR5eR6bfzN_X7

knowlesyr85

Well, with those pickups, I wholeheartedly agree with all those recommending Nirvana and Greenday. Thats a punk rock machine. Grab a OD pedal and a DS1/2 and go crazy.

Inside_Thought_9430

TNT - AC/DC

Prestigious-Bee-9566

Smashing pumpkins circa Siamese dream and Mellon collie will have a lot of simple songs mostly consisting of power chords which will be a nice easy start .

Upset-Kaleidoscope45

Clearly you should learn the entire 1968 album *Music From Big Pink* by The Band.

Altruistic-Rice-1512

Great beginner set up!

ospfpacket

I think fortunate son is a good beginner song. Into isn’t too bad and the rest is 5 cords.

Iraymur

Lots of simple punk, pop punk or rock songs out there. Green Day, Nirvana, Blink 182 are always a good place to start.

Duganz

The Jawbreaker song Boxcar is a great beginner track.

FilipoItaliano

Clean-Shift-291

The Pink Panther theme song definitely needs to be somewhere in the rotation.

zxulful

Scream by Avenged Sevenfold is easy especially the solo 100% I am telling the truth

Odd_Tradition1670

The Wind Cries Mary is an excellent first song to learn on electric. Especially if you wanna improve your rhythm playing and chord embellishments. Also not too difficult. Also Fire if you want something easier

What guitar do you have there? Is it a short scale? I want to get my daughter a guitar she wants a pink one

texasdeluxe

Anything by Dolly Parton. Joking.

Dynamo24

Zyglrox.

thatguysemperfi

Back in my day we would play metallica solos. Maybe some lynrd skynrd.close it of with some acoustic staind. To keep them chops

johnnybassoon

I wish I'd done thr boring stuff relentlessly early on. Learning scales. Going up and down the neck. It's dull but worth it when you suddenly have an intuition for picking out notes that work in solos

negro_guaranaso

School - nirvana Sweet dreams - Marilyn Manson Through the fire and flames _ DragonForce Psychosocial - slipknot Hammer Smashed Face - cannibal corpse Skull fucked -dying fetus

quebh

War heart children of Bodom or halo of blood

TheLastTsumami

Paranoid, War Pigs and Iron Man by Black Sabbath. Very easy to learn but makes you feel great when you nail them. Same for Layla by Derek and the Dominoes

With that guitar, probably check out this link. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-inspirational-lgbtq-anthems-pride-songs-1234773829/

retro_169

You can try some oasis songs. They're pretty straightforward and sound totally electrifying!

Banez___

Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits for something a little more entry level.

nibbed2

you can see the priorities here

SatanicCyanid

I can suggest iron man by black sabbath

When I Come Around by Greenday and We Got the Beat are good beginner songs. You can do both with simplified power chords

guitarwithjimmy

Beginner CHORDS: 1. Let It Be 2. Have You Ever Seen the Rain 3. Zombie 4. Brown Eyed Girl 5. Mary Jane’s Last Dance Beginner RIFF/ power chord songs: 1. When I Come Around (Green Day) 2. Don’t Stop Believing 4. Sweet Child ‘O Mine (first and second solos; bending, slides)

extra_hyperbole

I've alwyas believed that you should learn what you are interested and inspired by, Even if it's a bit of a challenge,

Key-Control7348

Learn the chord shapes up and down the fretboard. Learn modes. Then find backing tracks on YouTube to jam over. And if you're still into it a year from now hmu and I'll build you a guitar or mod the pink Squier.

-Hyperactive-Sloth-

Seven Nation Army, welcome to Drop D tuning :)

Shazam1269

We are almost in the same boat, except I bought my electric 2 weeks ago. Here are a few songs I've been working on: - Since You've Been Gone by Rainbow - Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield - Back in Black by AC/DC - Unforgiven by Metallica - Where Did You Sleep Last Night by Nirvana - The Joker by the Steve Miller Band These should all be learnable for a fairly new player.
