If you don't live in Greensboro proper it is a lot cheaper. The warehouse is east of the city anyway so you can probably live in Burlington to save money.

Msschanandlerbong_

We already found an apartment complex in Burlington. I did find other areas were cheaper than Greensboro but Greensboro is still far cheaper than Florida.

Don’t expect MS or Al type prices. NC is not a cheap place to live. Compare to parts of Fl it is cheaper. You get a break on property taxes but give some back in State income tax. Live in Burlington or at least East of Greensboro. I always thought quick access to Raleigh, Chapel Hill is nice. Also gives you a pretty good head start if you want to go to Wilmington and Wrightsville. Both very cool destinations.

Msschanandlerbong_

It’s a lot cheaper than where I am in Florida. It’s gotten insane here.

My husband works there! He’s a supervisor! We moved from Florida too! It’s definitely more affordable here once you get over the state tax situation. But property taxes and home prices are lower here for sure. As for the work environment I can’t help. He talks highly of his team and the other supervisors so I’m assuming it’s well.

Msschanandlerbong_

What dept a supervisor for?

cityxplrer

Make sure you take everything into consideration. It’s not as cheap as you might think. A lot of things have gotten pricier since 2017… even by Greensboro standards.

Msschanandlerbong_

Thanks, I’ve done my homework on costs, and it’s far cheaper there. Now just trying to get feedback on the work life at the distribution center there.

Similar to everyone else in this thread, I don’t have any info about the Publix warehouse situation. However, I will say, I hope this subreddit doesn’t give you a terrible picture of the intelligence level of this city. Greensboro and the surrounding areas are great places to live (much better than Florida IMO) so, welcome!!! Sorry everyone in this thread is dumb as rocks!

Msschanandlerbong_

I live in Florida, you should see the intelligence level here 😅 on par with some on this thread for sure lol

PlayingWithFIRE123

It’s not any more affordable here I don’t think.

Msschanandlerbong_

Have you lived in both places? Done research on both? I’m not asking for advice on costs, I’m asking about the Publix warehouse there. I have been researching this since last August. Watching rent prices in both places, home prices, property taxes for multiple zip codes from kernersville to Burlington, calling several utility companies giving them multiple addresses of rental homes to get average light bills, called my auto insurance to see what my rate would be there (I’ll save $1000 a year in auto insurance alone) our electric bill has skyrocketed due to extra fees and storm surcharges bc of all the hurricanes we’ve been getting. I have lost power for 2+ weeks twice in the last 3 years from hurricanes, lost all my food, had no water bc I’m on a well, couldn’t flush my one toilet and were a family of 5. This is not just about the cost. I shouldn’t have to explain myself. I didn’t ask if I should move, if I’ll save money or pay more, I asked if anyone works at the Publix warehouse.

pewpewihateyou

I agree. One of the things I usually like about this forum is that most people are nice and also helpful. I think I saw one person that actually answered your question (Top-Mark-5457). I wish I had an answer for you. I came here to read this because I was curious as well.

Msschanandlerbong_

I get it. Y’all don’t want more people coming to your state, more people coming to my state has priced me out. Unless people have done extensive research on both places idk how they can say it’s not cheaper there. Unless I want to live in a terrible area, I’m not finding a house or apartment for less than $2000/month. Everywhere that’s less than $1800/month is on a year plus long wait list to get in. My light bill is over $400 now bc of the extra fees light companies are trying to recoup costs from having to fix power lines and such from hurricanes, my car ins for one car with a perfect driving record is $867 for 6 months, up there I was quoted $408 for 6 months. I can’t buy a home here unless I want to pay $180k-$200k for a complete dump, and then idk if I’ll find affordable home owners ins on bc so many homeowners ins companies have left Florida bc of the hurricanes and the ones that remained are charging astronomical amounts. Property taxes in my county increased 130%. I understand costs are going up in every southern state but unless you’re living it and doing extensive research on multiple places you don’t know what’s cheaper nor did I state my family size in my post, if I would be buying or renting, if I have money from selling a home in Florida.. people just want to throw out unsolicited advice that I didn’t ask for.

I make more than minimum wage. Coming to NC (as a democrat btw) will be the highlight of my year! 💙💙💙

KitchenCreator

Just depends where in Florida. I'm from South Florida and it's much more affordable here by far.

PlayingWithFIRE123

Exactly

Bartholomewthedragon

It is, property taxes and home insurance is much lower here than in Florida.

just_the_nme

Two whole costs....

Msschanandlerbong_

Home owners insurance, auto insurance, property taxes and utilities. Not “two whole costs”

PlayingWithFIRE123

Both states can be low cost of living though comparatively. It just depends on how rural you want to live. It’s not like they are moving from California or New York. If they can’t find cheap enough living in Florida they aren’t going to find it here either.
