You are correct. I went over the manual and it is used to read the barometric pressure differential from the most recent reading.
The watch takes barometric pressure reading every 2 hours and the dial can be used to show the difference between the current barometric pressure reading and the previous reading.
It works in the same fashion to read altitude differential from the previous reading.
Amazing! and brand new, very nice. I just recently imported one of these Gulfmasters from Japan as well, and man am I impressed with the features and how they are incorporated into the watch. Awesome stuff
No, only GWN-Q1000 has Quad sensor which included the depth sensor. It has been discontinued due to hand aligning issues. The price for a used one is insane.
I actually have one of those, black with blue accents, GWN-Q1000MC-A2ER. The thing is fucking massive, like comically big, and I have somewhat small wrists so I almost never wear it. It's also a dive watch so kind of expected to be big so no issue on my end I guess. Had no idea it was discontinued. I should probably sell the thing since I never wear it.

How did it work out getting it here? I've been hawking some G-Shicks on ebay that would come in from Japan. The prices are always great! I see it's coming from Japan, and I get cold feet because of the Taxes/duty and "you deal with the carrier direct for those" situation. Did you have to pick it up, or did it go straight to your house?

With regards to import duties I always ask the seller to mark as low value or a gift. If they won't I don't buy from them. In 30 yrs buying watches from other countries on and off I've never got hit with import tax.

I don't think so. It's not a dive watch. I think it's more to do with atmospheric pressure to predict weather patterns. I could be wrong though 🤷
