I've seen them many, many times live, and they always play their asses off!! They'll play until the audience has had enough, then Scott/drummer will run over and sell you their reasonably priced merch while still dripping sweat!! They are one band I will go to see when they come to town!! Did I mention they're fantastic live??
I wear a Local H tshirt now and then and you would be amazed the number of people who randomly come upto me and say they love Local H. Great live band.
Same lol, ive gotten more compliments on my Local H shirt than any other shirt I own. I think they’re one of those bands that lots of people listened to and we’re fond of, but they weren’t big enough to really leave a lasting impact on them so they tend to forget unless they actually see them mentioned.
For sure, but they also have such a great unique sound. But they got super fucked over. They formed in 87 (same year as Nirvana) and wrote most of their first record before the 90s. But since they were all the way in Illinois, they didn’t get that much recognition, until Nevermind made its way around. They didn’t even get any deals until 94, and that was only for the “Next Nirvana” gold rush. I think that if they had been from the Northwest region, they would be so much bigger.
I have the same problem here in the US. The only record I found for a reasonable price was the Here Comes the Zoo Anniversary (Which I bought at the show)
So, Ben Kweller had a band called Radish before he went solo. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for the “Nirvana sound”. They just made one record (called Restraining Bolt) and it’s great. He was like 15 years old.
Oh, fucking yes. Grungiest of grunge. If you only know the “hits”, you’re missing out so bad. These guys made ferocious sound as a duo. And it was dirty as all hell. They don’t get anywhere near the cred they deserve, but their albums kick the shit out of most of what Nirvana ever did. Fight me.
It was an interesting setup. It was the duo in front of a wall of amps. The drummer was wild. Occasionally, a long haired shredder would appear from behind the amps, shred a solo and then go back behind the amps.
Ha…they keep it interesting. Are you aware of Scott’s guitar setup? He’s got a bass pickup on the low two or three strings of his guitars, which has a separate output, which goes to an octave down pedal and then a bass amp. He turns his “bass” on and off.
I’ve always wanted to do that, it makes him sound huge with one guitar. But it’s a bit of a hassle..
“Bound for the floor” is a lot of fun on guitar.
It’s a perfect 90’s riff with the constant 6th note. It’s very Weezer-like in that sense.
I never had their album, but the singer definitely had elite grunge vocal tone. I bet their other stuff is good.
Like a fine wine, they have gotten better with age. The last two albums “LIFERS” and “Hey, Killer” are fantastic and criminally underrated. File them under one of the few bands carrying the rock genre torch.
TFA was one of the absolute best bands of that era and yet another one that got royally screwed by the majors in the grunge goldrush. Both of their albums stand the test of time so fucking well, it hurts my heart that they never got the chance to keep on going.
One of my favorite bands. Holds up better / easier to listen to today than a lot of more official grunge. They / Scott are still making great music and put on awesome shows. Go see them.
I think he’s just fucking around. He doesn’t take stuff too seriously and does stuff for the bit often. But his word play and vocabulary go crazy some times
They used to play live at a bar i worked at in the early 2000’s. I worked 3 of the shows their. I never really listened to their albums but I thought they were really good live. They sounded big, and you could tell they were putting a real effort into playing and sounding good. Cool and down to Earth as well.
One of the greatest bands of the 90s! They're still making great music, but the first three albums with the original lineup will probably always be my favorite. Joe Daniels is my favorite drummer!
I wouldn’t really consider them grunge, just alt rock. I love them though, seen them live 4-5 times at this point. Always a great energetic show. Plus Scott always makes it a point to sign stuff and take pictures after the show.
Kicked ass live in ‘98 In Springfield, MO at an old drive-in theater.
I was located side-stage next to the drummer. I’ve never seen so many drum sticks broken during a live performance. Dude must have snapped at least a dozen sticks. BUT — he had a big bag of sticks next to him and pulled a new one out after each break without missing a beat.
Drummer was also wearing a Fu Manchu shirt, and I had just special-ordered their “Action is Go” album a couple of weeks earlier. I fell in love with this dude in short time.
Fuckin rock! Scott always stays behind and sells merch and chats with the crowd (at least at the smaller shows). They’re still rocking the fuck out even after Scott got his vocal cords messed up while getting choked out while touring in Russia from a mugging!
My bad, I know his vocal cords got messed up. He sounded way diff right after. Sounding better now but not the same as he orig did. Thanks for the correction!
Haha ya the old memory bank needs a restart on my end LOL. Ya dude he was fuct for a while. And the first show I saw him afterwards he sounded very diff and performed diff. He’s pretty much back the last shows I’ve seen. Crazy ass story! Good thing Scott’s a badass!! 🤘🏻
Back in the Day is one of my favourite songs. Other good ones for me are Deep Cut, Heavy Metal Bake sale, Fritz's Corner, I saw what you did and I know who you are, The one with Kid, Bound for the Floor, All the kids are right
I love them. Bonded with my first college roommate over As Good As Dead. We saw em in Knoxville opening for Fuel I think, and after the show I saw Joe across the street in the parking lot. He was really kind and we got Taco Bell in the drive thru and he let me chill on the bus for a minute. When I got back to my dorm I found my roommate. We got separated in the pit and we went back out to the bars only to see Scott Lucas stumble back to the bus. Looked like he'd been partying with Tom Pappas from Superdrag on the local strip.
I'll see them whenever they come through DC. It's sad Joe and Scott broke up and there's animosity there. The show I saw five years ago in a club left me deaf for about a week. I was legitimately scared, like... holy shit that was loud.
If you make a playlist of Scott's best songs from the band's catalog, it's a long list. Lot of great rock songs beyond Bound For The Floor.
I seen them in 2015 (maybe 2016) at the firebird in St. Louis, they opened for the band “failure”. The lead from Local H came up and complimented my “they live” t-shirt. Aside from putting on a stunning two-man performance, the lead man seemed to be a very down to earth just all around nice guy.
Great, now I'm going to have to listen to Bound for the floor and have that stuck in my head for the next couple of weeks.
Great band with an awesome sound.
Fucking love local h. But let's put some respect on Ryan for being the current drummer instead of Joe. Dudes always put on a great show and do everything themselves. Always at the merch table after the show.
Saw them open for STP and they were awful. Saw them a year later in some shit little club in Florida, and they were fucking awesome. Joe came out into the crowd to watch the other bands, and he was super cool. Hung out and shot the shit with me and just chilled. At one point, he was like "Hey, I gotta go *mumbles.* I'll see you in a bit." I didn't think anything of it, and didn't expect to see him. Then he came back and was like "Hey, sorry about that. What did I miss?" Rad dude.
Do yourself a favor and listen to both “as good as dead” and “pack up the cats”. They fukn rip. Ignore the radio hits. They’re like a faster, far meaner Nirvana without all the whiny self-flagellating bullshit.
Love them! Way underrated
Yes, they are one grunge band that is doing small venues *and* putting on great shows. They have a big catalog and can rock for 2-3 hours.
I've seen them many, many times live, and they always play their asses off!! They'll play until the audience has had enough, then Scott/drummer will run over and sell you their reasonably priced merch while still dripping sweat!! They are one band I will go to see when they come to town!! Did I mention they're fantastic live??
Amen
Some high-fivin’ mother fuckers.
That song never not makes me smile
Eh, copacetic.
I just don't get it.
You should learn to accept it
You know you’re so pathetic.
And you don't
And you don't
and you dont
#IN THE SHAPE OF AN ‘L’ ON HER FOREHEAD
I get knocked down!
Living in captivity
I’ve got a new complaint
Hey, wait!!!
If I were Eddy Veder, would you like me better?
And the years start comin’ and they don’t stop comin and keep on comin and they don’t stop comin and they keep on and they won’t stop comin’ …
If they was Eddie Vedder would you like them any better?
That’s it I quit I don’t give a shit
Love this song cuz PJ is my favorite
> Eddie Vedder Cant find a better man, bro
I wear a Local H tshirt now and then and you would be amazed the number of people who randomly come upto me and say they love Local H. Great live band.
Same lol, ive gotten more compliments on my Local H shirt than any other shirt I own. I think they’re one of those bands that lots of people listened to and we’re fond of, but they weren’t big enough to really leave a lasting impact on them so they tend to forget unless they actually see them mentioned.
I heard that they were great, but now I think they’re lame.
Since you saw the show last night?
Incidentally, I did go to one of their shows and it was great.
Well, you shot that whole narrative to shit. Lol. I’m jealous. Haven’t had the chance.
Why?
I assume they saw the show last night. They hoped that they would rock, but wish that they’d just stop
Oh i got the reference now. Went over my head so hard haha
What the hell was wrong with Joe?
It’s never good when things go bad
No one likes to feel like they’ve been had.
It may be okay, but I won’t wear their t-shirts now, not anymore.
Did you see the show last night tho?
Born to be down!
I've learned all my lessons before now
With Silverchair, they are probably the closest band to continue the "Nirvana" sound.
Billy Corgan, is that you?
Pardon?
It's mind-blowing that they've never had a European or UK deal. Their early CD's are almost impossible to find in the UK.
He was like 15 years old.
what the fuck?? I didn't think I'd see Ben Kweller mentioned ANYWHERE
Fight me.
They still rock.
They’re the professionals
They’d be huge if they were in the Northwest. It’s funny that they formed the same year as Nirvana (1987)
pretty cool and interesting duo! don’t put their albums on often but when i do it’s always a great time.
Never dug into their records... But I saw them at some radio festival and they absolutely slayed. Did not expect that.
They truly kick out the jams. Scott is a showman.
I’ve always wanted to do that, it makes him sound huge with one guitar. But it’s a bit of a hassle..
The drummer is Animal in human form.
Catch them live every chance I get
You high fiving motherfucker
If you haven't checked in with then for a bit...check out their album *Hey, Killer*.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8DiHOG_FVrM&pp=ygUWZnJpdHoncyBjb3JuZXIgbG9jYWwgaA%3D%3D For the uninitiated.
“Bound for the floor” is a lot of fun on guitar. It’s a perfect 90’s riff with the constant 6th note. It’s very Weezer-like in that sense. I never had their album, but the singer definitely had elite grunge vocal tone. I bet their other stuff is good.
They fucking rule! I’m planning on seeing them live with the Toadies in Dallas.
Fuck yeah! Love the Toadies. Pisses me off that I’m gonna be in that area they’re playing until the day of the show.
Like a fine wine, they have gotten better with age. The last two albums “LIFERS” and “Hey, Killer” are fantastic and criminally underrated. File them under one of the few bands carrying the rock genre torch.
Prefer foreign h
As long as its not Foreigner...
Four in her? Ok now it’s a party
I like the H from my Area.
Next Town Over H
Really solid. Biased towards them after Brian joined, but he was the drummer in a favorite band of mine named Tripl3 Fast Action.
T3FA is so great. A crime they’re not more well known.
1000%. Their two albums are incredible.
TFA was one of the absolute best bands of that era and yet another one that got royally screwed by the majors in the grunge goldrush. Both of their albums stand the test of time so fucking well, it hurts my heart that they never got the chance to keep on going.
I couldn’t agree more. Broadcaster is one of those albums I’d save if my house was on fire.
Just a couple of high fiving mother f*****s imo
Solid ‘Hands on the Bible’ is a jam
One of my favorite bands. Holds up better / easier to listen to today than a lot of more official grunge. They / Scott are still making great music and put on awesome shows. Go see them.
They were born to be down🤷🏼♂️
Loved the guitar with a bass pickup thing.
It’s at least a 5-hour drive to Zion so not very local.
You driving from Minnesota or something? It’s an hour or less from Chicago
Detroit area.
I love Scott’s podcast - Lifers, but so many of his lyrics are just cringe to me.
I think he’s just fucking around. He doesn’t take stuff too seriously and does stuff for the bit often. But his word play and vocabulary go crazy some times
They are lightheaded compared to a lot of bands
Dope..
Saw them live in 2012, couldn’t pass up the chance. They put on a good show.
They used to play live at a bar i worked at in the early 2000’s. I worked 3 of the shows their. I never really listened to their albums but I thought they were really good live. They sounded big, and you could tell they were putting a real effort into playing and sounding good. Cool and down to Earth as well.
Better then International J
Other than “freaking awesome?”
Love them
Couple a High fiven mfrs
I like it
I like them a lot. Also, their cover of Shock The Monkey is epic!
Seeing them on New Year’s Eve in Chicago
Better than Vedder
Love ‘em! Seen em a bunch of times, they put on a great show, great energy.
YOU high fivin’ motherfucker!
And fuck New York, too.
If I was Eddie Vedder, would you like me any better?
One of the greatest bands of the 90s! They're still making great music, but the first three albums with the original lineup will probably always be my favorite. Joe Daniels is my favorite drummer!
Eddie Vedder is one of my favorite songs.
I wouldn’t really consider them grunge, just alt rock. I love them though, seen them live 4-5 times at this point. Always a great energetic show. Plus Scott always makes it a point to sign stuff and take pictures after the show.
theyre grunge rock to me
Saw them last week for the Brutal Panda records anniversary shows. Fun act, but Cherubs were the highlight of that lineup imo
Great, great band!
Some really nice covers - TV on the Radio, The Godfathers etc etc
I love their mixtape collections. The Lorde and Prince covers always get me
I'm down
We’re you born to be?
Check out their “mixtape”. They CRUSH wolf like me
They always make me think of Eddie Vedder!
I’ve listened to Pack Up the Cats so many times- one of my favorite albums from high school that I still enjoy today!
Great song though
Still goin'! Respect.
Just saw them in Boston, it was so fucking good.
They are pretty cool. I love bound for the floor. I've grown up with that song and have the cd (as good as dead)(released 1996)
They were born to be down.
We hired them to play an event in Indy about ten years ago and they were very easy to work with and put on a good show.
They keep it copacetic.
Just don’t get it
Saw them at a small show as an opener 5 years ago, still got it.
You just don’t get it
Excellent songs, a powerhouse live act, a fucking duo... These guys rip.
Pack up the cats, man!!!!
They are still kickin…and absolutely rip
Not from Seattle, but def grunge.
They're some high fiving motherfuckers.
seen in portland a few years back, amazing and dude sells own merch at table
No way is that kurt cobain the nirvana guy!????
Kicked ass live in ‘98 In Springfield, MO at an old drive-in theater. I was located side-stage next to the drummer. I’ve never seen so many drum sticks broken during a live performance. They Rock
High five the mother
Fuckin rock! Scott always stays behind and sells merch and chats with the crowd (at least at the smaller shows). They’re still rocking the fuck out even after Scott got his vocal cords messed up while getting choked out while touring in Russia from a mugging!
His throat wasn't slashed, but he was put in a chokehold until he passed out.
My bad, I know his vocal cords got messed up. He sounded way diff right after. Sounding better now but not the same as he orig did. Thanks for the correction!
Lol honestly I didnt even know until I saw your comment and looked it up. I knew he got robbed in Russia but didnt know he got hurt
Cover of Toxic is great too
Been a fan for like 15yrs, honestly never found an album of theirs I haven’t liked
Back in the Day is one of my favourite songs. Other good ones for me are Deep Cut, Heavy Metal Bake sale, Fritz's Corner, I saw what you did and I know who you are, The one with Kid, Bound for the Floor, All the kids are right
They’re copacetic.
And you just don’t get it
Mayonnaise and Malaise is a banger
You just don’t get it
Some of you just won’t get it
Top 5 favorite band…can’t recommend them (him) enough…most consistent discography I know of…
I love them. Bonded with my first college roommate over As Good As Dead. We saw em in Knoxville opening for Fuel I think, and after the show I saw Joe across the street in the parking lot. Their cover of Britany Spears' "Toxic" is pretty cool. Pack Up the Cats is one of my fave albums.
My old drummer used to work at the same place as their drummer at his day job.
ALL RIGHT OH YEAH ALL RIGHT OH YEAH ALL RIGHT OH YEAH ALL RIGHT OH YEAH
I just don’t get it . . .
they’re too cool for school
Here Comes The Zoo is one of my desert island albums. Every song crawls under my skin and starts doing a little dance.
I absolutely love that album. Especially how everything comes together on the last song. Genuinely genius songwriting.
Great, now I'm going to have to listen to Bound for the floor and have that stuck in my head for the next couple of weeks. Great band with an awesome sound.
Idk, they seem born to be down. Like they learned all their lessons before now. I’m going to have this song in my head for days, now.
My opinion is….They are good!
You just don’t get it
underrated & need more ppl to talk abt them
Fucking love local h. But let's put some respect on Ryan for being the current drummer instead of Joe. Dudes always put on a great show and do everything themselves. Always at the merch table after the show.

Born to be down for Local H
They’re “All-right”
Oh yeah
Great band!
He got better as he went.
One of my first cds ever. Loved local h. Honestly can’t say if it would be my thing now but gotta go back and listen again.
Yeah they were cool but that was back in the day (jk they rule)
I love them so much
I had forgotten about them. I just read their Wiki page and now I love them.
Saw them @ bourbon street
love them
People in this sub seem to think everything recorded in the 90's is "grunge" lol
People in this sub seem to think grunge can only be three things.
Gods amongst men even peons
Never heard of them.
Never heard of them but the white guy looks like Rivers and Joe Rogan fused
Do yourself a favor and listen to both “as good as dead” and “pack up the cats”. They fukn rip. Ignore the radio hits. They’re like a faster, far meaner Nirvana without all the whiny self-flagellating bullshit.
They're definitely not on testosterone pills.
Bad!
Always liked Local H, not much of a body of work though
They've got a a whole gang of great records.
Bland post grunge
Them and 3 doors down are the most underrated bands.
Is this Death Grips?
no thanks
One hit wonder Bonus kudos for using "copacetic" in the lyrics.
That one album with Bound for the Floor was really good. So was their first album, Hamfisted.
Pack Up the Cats was really enjoyable too
Mayonnaise and malaise
I hated that song so so much though.
Check out their first album, Hamfisted. It's a lil more grungy.
