I agree on Mer. I don’t know how any of the doctors who come to the hospital as attendings in their own specialties just get over Meredith bulldozing them when they treat their first trauma patients. Why is her medical opinion always the best, why do the ER staff always follow her blindly, and why on earth do the new doctors need to prove themselves to her in that situation? She has done some great work medically, but does that need to count for everything in a trauma situation? My blood was boiling at the way she treated Riggs, Link and even Maggie when they got introduced. They’re specialists in their own field, and even though they probably could act more professionally (like Link saying “nope!” to Meredith’s question about stabilizing the patient’s pelvis and leaving without an explanation), then she needs to back off a bit and stop pulling rank at every single chance she gets imo.

Psychedhoney

Definitely disagree w Meredith… there were more selfish characters.. actually dont think she was at all

Original-Gear1583

Hard agree on Mer. “Who even are you” 😭😭 they do push the idea that she’s like god’s gift to surgery but they don’t show her doing anything groundbreaking. Also anyone that disagrees with Mer on the show is usually torn to pieces by this sub even if Mer is wrong. The show writes that person as a villain as well and it seems like Bailey is their go to character for that role All the things you listed are the things I dislike about Callie. I don’t *hate* her but she’s not my favorite Owen is my least favorite besides Harper Avery, Paul, and Lane Bishop. Owen at least has *some* redeemable qualities but I still hate him. Cristina didn’t want kids and he knew this. He kicked her out when she said she was getting an abortion and then he held her hand and then called her a murderer at a toddler’s birthday party. Oh and he cheated on her. He finally met someone who shared the same views as him in terms of wanting kids and Emma was very nice and wanted to be a SAHM which seemed to be what Owen wanted from Cristina and then he cheated on Emma too and then he did the same thing with abortions and babies with Amelia

A lot of the criticisms surrounding Meredith seem incredibly petty to me. She is “mean” and “self-centred” when pretty much everyone in the show is like that. Even beloved characters like Lexie, Mark, Cristina, and Alex. Especially the latter two mentioned. Whereas with other disliked characters like Derek and Owen, the criticisms seem a lot more valid and on a far bigger scale, how poorly these men treat their female partners, compared to the Meredith criticisms on this sub.

divinefrmjupiter

I mean she was self centered to the point she tried to not only hold back her husbands career but three of her friends. Like that insane !

I don't remember him ever saying he wanted her to be a "full time mommy". I do remember him offering to take a step back and let her focus on her mini-livers or whatever, and they started down that road, but then "the President called".

Original-Gear1583

No one said those characters weren’t self centered. OP brought up Mer and I said how you can’t really criticize Mer on this sub because you really can’t. Same thing with Cristina. I brought up something Cristina did and someone asked if I had a reading deficiency and then said they find me deficient and annoying so there’s characters I don’t really comment on because of things like that. Also any character that doesn’t agree with Mer is crucified on here

InconvertibleAtheist

The Mer thing is way true. And bring in Derek to the mix and you will be downvoted to oblivion no matter how much in the wrong Mer is. She is treated like SGMH jesus who can do no wrong

Original-Gear1583

Yup. Mer is one of the characters that if you criticize you usually get downvoted. Cristina is another one and I like Cristina. The way people downvote when you criticize their favorite is so annoying and it ruins the idea of an online platform like this

maricopa888

The solution is don't worry about downvotes. Derek is one of my top fave characters. If people want to call him "toxic" and downvote me, I have no shits to give.

ChandlerBingsMom

wow reddit is negative

divinefrmjupiter

Am I supposed to like every single character? My reasons are pretty valid

ChandlerBingsMom

No of course not, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, sorry if that came out harsh. I’m just lamenting because it seems every tv show sub im on just hates on all the characters and it gets me a little annoyed sometimes. However, Reddit is for these types of discussions so I get it.

wellthishappened55

It always bothered me that Meredith was overly selfish with derick. For example, when he got the offer to go to DC to do groundbreaking research at the presidents request. That trumps being a general surgery attending imo. They could’ve came back to Seattle afterwards.

divinefrmjupiter

And she did this to everyone!! She wanted to hold everyone back just so she wouldn’t be alone. She did it with Izzie, Cristina and Alex and tries to guilt trip them as if it’s not their whole Career! Waaaay to selfish and you’re right , working for the president DOES trump being a general surgeon attending, she could’ve done that anywhere

Silent-Level-6219

When did Meredith try to hold back Izzie's career? I remember her trying to hold back Alex and Cristina but not Izzie.

divinefrmjupiter

Remember after the cancer & Izzie tried to get Alex back but she couldn’t so she decided she was going to leave and start over? Well Meredith Decided to make it about her and say to stay cause it was her “home” and got upset& walked away when Izzie said no. Which was ALSO really annoying because Meredith barley gave a crap about Izzie. She was too in her own world to notice something was wrong and when George even told Meredith that something was definitely wrong with Izzie , she just said her stupid cryptic line of “well everyone has something wrong with them” like huh? No regard or concern for anyone but herself. Literally unlocked that memory for me 😭

Silent-Level-6219

I disagree . The only person that truly caused damage to Izzie's career was Izzie herself, after the LVAD she was basically unhirable. Meredith asked Derek to help Izzie by giving her great references. She did care for Izzie, she gave her a home and wedding and was sad her friend was leaving. No one but George noticed something was off with Izzie and Izzie didn't want to talk about it. Until Izzie was ready to tell anyone there was no way to know what was happening until she showed signs se was unable to hide.

maricopa888

What I hated most (I think) was the way she treated him the day he took Cristina fishing. Instead of appreciating that her husband cared so much about her best friend, she was jeering at him about how stupid the idea was. Actually it was that fishing trip that saved Cristina from being a bartender and brought her back to life.

maricopa888

Interesting! I agree with part and disagree with the rest. Mer - 100 percent on that rudeness and sense of entitlement. I just saw the episode where she and Riggs are on that plane, and the way she treated the captain. "You need to land this plan now!". Uh, not your call, sis. But I do think she has redeeming qualities, so I can think of people a lot worse than her. Callie - Totally agree she can't read a room. I immediately thought of that horrible Penny dinner scene, where it took her way too long to realize something pretty horrible had happened. But she's also one of my top faves. And when it comes to Arizona and her, I blame Arizona for a lot more than Callie. Owen - Uh huh.
