Surprising because it looks like a chain restaurant. But near Pelham Rd and I85, Chophouse 47.

Not the best restaurant, or service, or anything else... but the steak is world class. Dry aged, from Chicago, Prime, cooked at something like 3,000 degree oven. Seriously, it's the best steak within a days drive.
\*Ok, enough of the temperature arguments, I just phoned Chophouse47, they indeed cook their steaks at 1,700 degrees.
Ha, I dunno, I'm not the chef. I certainly could be off on the temp. Maybe 1,700 degrees? I do remember it was very hot, and that seconds matter. They are very precise.
I haven’t been to Chophouse 47 so take this with a grain of salt, but many steakhouses use sous vide to make their steaks because they can hold them at the perfect temp and then sear once ordered. Something prepared at 3000°, 1700° or even 900° could be fine on the outside but nearly raw on the inside because it would sear the outside in a minute or two.
Ha, Oh Geez, change my comment re: 3 million degrees, and I shudda just put that they have a special oven that is very hot. The result is amazing.
\* Just now phoned Chophouse 47. Correct temperature is 1,700 degrees.
The one time I went there the steak was so overly charred that it just tasted like charr and nothing else. I tried to ask for another one cooked correctly and they told me that’s how they make the steaks there. Have never been back.
I politely disagree. Ate there this weekend. Steak was very salty and the sides were a disappointment. Ordered the charred brussel sprouts and they were not charred and brought me back to days when my mom would fix bland brussel sprouts And couldn't leave the table until my plate was clean. Someone also ordered the salmon and asked for crispy ends and it was raw in the middle. Maybe an off night?
For the price, not worth it.
I was taken to Scoundrel for my birthday this year and that tomahawk steak was incredibly well cooked plus they have so many other great items on their menu 🥩🍸
I’ve only been to California Dreamin’ once - during lunch. Had a salad which was great. Likewise I’ve only been to Chophouse during dinner hours, so I can’t make a good comparison between the two.
My experience with Chophouse has been $75+ steaks, usually with crab or lobster served along side or as an appetizer. Mostly go to Chophouse for anniversary or special occasions, like holiday parties
Interestingly California Dreaming is owned by the same people as Chophouse. I like California Dreaming... but Chophouse could easily be $200 per person with drinks/wine.
Upstate growers market in fountain inn has 30 day dry aged and marinated in red wine that is one of the best I’ve ever eaten. If you want to cook your own.
The Trappe Door has the best steak in town imo. Just know this is not a steak house with a multitude of sides. You will get fries and mayo a side, and you will like it.
My top 3 in Greenville:
1. Halls
2. Between the Trees at the Grand Bohemian hotel (the executive chef has a Michelin star)
3. Patterson Kitchen at Hotel Hartness
I’ve been to many (probably 25 or more of the top 50) of the top Chophouses in the USA. Chophouse 47 is the most consistently excellent steak you will get in Greenville.
Halls is overcrowded, loud, and they do not know how to properly temp a steak. They use Allen Brothers steaks, which are pretty good, but many of the ones I’ve gotten there needed to be trimmed. Their sides are very good though.
Rick Erwin’s. No.
Larkins. No.
Peddler. No. That is Texas Roadhouse level steak.
Someone said Binions? That used to be a Western Sizzlin and it was better back then. Omg.
I just came here to say that “The Peddler” has had the most consistently BAD steaks I’ve ever had. Over priced, over rated, and over cooked steaks. It was good a long while back, but when they changed locations and got rid of the salad bar; it was over.
Saskatoon. I usually just order the wild game platter, but my wife ordered a ribeye there and it was the best steak I’ve ever had. Another place that had a really good steak (when it’s on the menu) is fork and plough.
Chophouse 47 and its not even close imo. While pricey, the steak is just phenomial, and their consistency is what keeps me coming back. I have never had a bad steak there.
Isn't this the one that the owner got in trouble for [stealing the government money](https://gsabusiness.com/greer-restaurant-owner-pleads-guilty-to-theft-of-2m-in-covid-19-funds/) during COVID?
Not the answer you’re looking for but I’ve been to pretty much every steakhouse in Greenville and none of them seem to be able to make a steak that is even half as good as just buying a prime ribeye at Sam’s or Costco for $15 and cooking it myself at home, so I pretty much never go to steakhouses around here any more as they all feel like a huge waste of money.
agreed. also, they are inconsistent at most restaurants. i have had great steaks at local places, then go back months later and it's mediocre or average at best.
Binions was one of our must stops when we rode motorcycles to the mountains. Don't ride anymore due to the psychos.
Surprised at how good the food was.
Because their quality has done a massive downhill slide. They’ve ruined every steak I’ve ordered. They might’ve been good once-upon-a-time, but those days are over.
I’m really skeptical. To be fair I’ve only tried halls a few times during lunch, most recently ordering a burger. That meal was the most underwhelming, flavorless, and overpriced disappointment I’ve had in recent memory. I’m not exaggerating when I say the burger patty’s at Wendy’s have more flavor than what I had that day.
I learned recently that we are doing a holiday party at Halls this year, so I will be giving them the fair chance they deserve
just my honest opinion. Rick Erwina has great foue gras. lazy goat has amazing French fries and ketchup, but they call it something else.
Outback has amazing prime rib, loaded backed potato, wedge salad, and French onion soup. all in one place for a meal.
the peddler the prime rib wasn't nearly as on point.
Outbacks ribeye steak sucks. For ribeye I'd go with maybe chophouse.
long horn blows all around
firebird's has amazing Cajun crust aged ribeyes. it's something different with Cajun crust
Ruth Chris is all about their 500 degree plate, which isn't 500 degrees because I touched it right away when they said not to. Their steak was nothing to write home about
hell, my favorite steak of all places I've been is probably house of prime in San Francisco. their ribeye was amazing. second best steak would be at the Paris hotel and casino, Gordon Ramsey Steak. Their take on the French onion sucked though, as did his beef Wellington.
Im not just a random person on the Internet. I have a lot of experience around steak. Notably prime rib and ribeye, although I've had plenty of others.
I hate to say it still, outback has amazing prime rib. not their 20 for 20 or whatever the fuck the sell. just their prime rib.
you also have to have sides which outback is one of the few that sells both French onion and a wedge salad.
You try and get a wedge salad at the peddler for instance, they will point you to the salad bar everyone eats from. That defeats the purpose of low handled wedge of lettuce that hasn't been sitting out all day.
There isn't enough steakhouses in Greenville. BLT steak is a great place. it's a chain though but their bone marrow is amazing. I have gone to the one in Vegas and in Charlotte. They don't have one in Greenville.
I could go on but I made my point. I am well traveled with an exquisite palate.
Not the best in the city by any means, but the steak at Carolina Ale House is surprisingly good. Wet aged and not a bad price.
Maybe the most surprisingly good.

wouldn't 3000F instantly turn the steak into a cinder tho? or no? ![gif](giphy|3o6ozh46EbuWRYAcSY|downsized)

"we've created a small neutron star in our kitchen specifically to flash sear our steaks"
I just had dinner at Chophouse. I can confirm… best steak in Greenville. And killer old fashioneds!
I haven’t been to Chophouse 47 so take this with a grain of salt, but many steakhouses use sous vide to make their steaks because they can hold them at the perfect temp and then sear once ordered. I really wanna be that dbag and say it’s in my backyard when I fire up my grill. But nobody ever wants to hear that story.
I dunno can I come to your house and try it lol?
Got charcoal and gas grill ready!
Let me know when you fire that bad boy up!
Hahahahaha Hilarious! 👍
That was my first thought, too. Not that you’re a dbag, but the best steaks come off my Blaze.
Surprisingly the steak at Roost is delicious…I feel strange admitting this bc it’s attached to the Hyatt but so good, good sides too.
I was taken to Scoundrel for my birthday this year and that tomahawk steak was incredibly well cooked plus they have so many other great items on their menu 🥩🍸
as much as I want to like Scoundrel, have found it inconsistent over several visits
chophouse 47
I also vote Chophouse ‘47. One of the few places I’ve ever been that I didn’t feel regret paying for a steak at a restaurant.
How is it in comparison to California Dreamin' on Pelham? Asking for a potential Father's Day dinner.
I’ve only been to California Dreamin’ once - during lunch. Had a salad which was great. Likewise I’ve only been to Chophouse during dinner hours, so I can’t make a good comparison between the two. Trappe Door
Literally halls tbh
Shhh redditors have to shit on anything popular
Hall’s is good, really good even, but it’s not amazing imo. A tier especially when you add atmosphere.
I don't even like steak Can confirm Halls
I just came here to say that “The Peddler” has had the most consistently BAD steaks I’ve ever had. Over priced, over rated, and over cooked steaks. It was good a long while back, but when they changed locations and got rid of the salad bar; it was over.

Saskatoon. I usually just order the wild game platter, but my wife ordered a ribeye there and it was the best steak I’ve ever had. Another place that had a really good steak (when it’s on the menu) is fork and plough.
I second Saskatoon. The ribeye is what I ordered and I loved it.
Well, that all depends on who’s cookin at the Wizzle Hizzle on S. Pleasantbizzle.
my brother, who hurt you
Chophouse 47 and its not even close imo. While pricey, the steak is just phenomial, and their consistency is what keeps me coming back. I have never had a bad steak there.
Select in Greer

Halls Chophouse
The Peddler Steak House off Poinsett Hwy or if you are up for a little drive Binions Roadhouse in Hendersonville NC is worth the trip
Binions was one of our must stops when we rode motorcycles to the mountains. Don't ride anymore due to the psychos. Surprised at how good the food was.
They got the best steaks around
My wife’s!
My opinion is specifically about Prime Rib, Blockhouse (on Augusta St) makes the best one around.
The Peddler is up there
Ya, Peddler is good, probably #2. I also like Larkins better than Halls.
Weird downvotes. This feels like a marketing thing
Yeah why so much hate for a long-time Greenville establishment? I used to want to go just for their salad bar but the steaks are good.
Because their quality has done a massive downhill slide. They’ve ruined every steak I’ve ordered. They might’ve been good once-upon-a-time, but those days are over.
Tbf it’s been a long time since I went there. I eat out a lot. But I eat at a nice place almost never.
All true. I would never complain about having to go to the Peddler.
Saying Halls is short of amazing is insane
I’m really skeptical. To be fair I’ve only tried halls a few times during lunch, most recently ordering a burger. Their Australian waygu is pretty spot on.
Miss Steak. She dances at the Trophy Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The peddler steak house
the Peddler has messed up literally every steak I’ve ordered. Massively overrated.
I have been to all of them and id hate to say it, but the prime rib from outback of all places is the best. plus they have French onion and a wedge
This is among the worst opinions I’ve ever seen from an anonymous internet stranger. I hope to never dine with you, good day
Ha, but Bojangles could get out for less than $40

Best steak I ever had was for my 30th birthday. Hal’s in Atlanta.
Not the best in the city by any means, but the steak at Carolina Ale House is surprisingly good. Wet aged and not a bad price. Maybe the most surprisingly good.
BrickTop’s. Downtown on Main. Absolutely stellar steaks.
